Opinions de Troy Greek Cuisine Alameda
One of the best Greek American style gyros I’ve had in the bay. Not a mislabeled shawarma like most. Good bouncy texture to the meat, right amount of salt, good crisp. Great fries and tzatziki.
What a cozy little restaurant. We were walking down to the main drag, looking to discover a new restaurant saw Troy smell the steaks grilling looked at the menu decided to pop in and have dinner and wow sure glad we did. Their spanakopita was amazing, Greek salad was great and we had their meatball special which hit the spot. The food was tasty the portions were very large The server was amazing what a nice young man he was The overall experience was perfect. Definitely going back, highly recommend.
This is the 2nd time I've visited Troy. I stumbled upon it during a drill weekend and this round my family and I were headed to the Monster Jam monster truck show at the Colluseum. (It was crap). Anyway, the whole family devoured the plates we ordered, that's a 3 year old, an 8 year old and us parents. Greek cuisine was my favorite to find during deployment and this is definitely a great representation. We'll be back!
Troy has always been great! Now that they're in the nicer location, the atmosphere is better as well. I had the grilled salmon and dolmas and loved both. I also recommend the Greek sodas, falafel and gyro wraps, fries, and moussaka. The food isn't the cheapest, but they give you a lot so it's a very good value.
This place has absolutely the best Greek food in Alameda! Since they moved to the new bigger location next door where Pappo used to be they definitely kicked it up a notch. The food is fresh and delicious, the service is great, and they now have a full bar. I gotta give a shout out to Blanca and Hector too! If you want a tasty meal at a reasonable price come check out the all new Troy!
Troy's has been a favorite of ours for years, always delicious, fresh and served with a smile and now that they are in a space fitted for the tastes they serve they are even better! It is also a wonderful alternative to all the crown three eating out ethnic sectors of Asian, Mexican and italian. We usually order to pick up and bring home to eat, being on a tight budget we get a little crafty when ordering and the staff is super helpful in figuring that out in a friendly nonjudgmental way. Our order is usually 4-8 falafel on the side, 1-2 orders of hummus w pita, small order of tratziki sauce, and a side of gyro meat (best I have ever had anywhere). Maybe an extra pita or two depending. Love the green hot sauce and tahini but they aren't joking about the red hot sauce being hot. About $30ish and will easily divide into 4 meals @$7.50 which is equal or less than a kids meal at the drive through.... The best part of that equation is that it's NOT a drive thru meal it's TROY'S yay! Still want fries with that? No problem their regular Greek fries blows theirs away and they rock garlic fries too!
Fast, friendly, and professional customer service. Phenomenal smells from the kitchen. Insanely busy with phone-in, takeout, and online orders. Constant traffic during the lunch rush. The hostess/server/cashier all three in one provided exceptional customer service. Excellent Avgolemino soup and Gyros. Great all around customer experience.
Great comfort food! Definitely try the Gyros. A little small inside so ordering for pickup isn't a bad idea. But if you get the chance get a table inside! I would say that the small size is part of the charm.
Troys never disappoints when I want an amazing falafel wrap! Their fries are also very tasty and crisp every time. Authentic flavors in all the foods prepared there, and great prices for the amount and quality.
Started off with Spinach pie. Wasn't good at all. So don't get the Spinach pie. Though when I had every little hope left for the food my Gyro came. Which was the BEST GYRO I HAVE EVER HAD! Definitely get the Gyro you wont regret it. Also a very affordable price so definitely a Plus! Great place to eat.
Excellent food, nicely spicy. No problem with adjusting things (leaving out toppings). The guy behind the counter is friendly and kept checking back with us. Prices are very good for what you get - good solid meal. I'll be going there again.
Flavorful and delicious, I’ve been coming here since I was in high school. I tried the lamb platter with tomato sauce and it was phenomenal for my Indian palate. Service was amazing as always, very kind!
My daughter was house sitting and said "dad, I found this cool place downtown called Troy. It's greek." Hecknya! Let's check it out. Servers were nice and attentive, food was amazing and the vibe was super chill. Loved it. I only managed one Pic of the feta cheese appetizer because I inhaled the schwarma wrap. Great little place
Simply delicious. Troy is conveniently located right across the Alameda Theater. I had the lamb kebab plate. The lamb was perfectly tender, juicy and flavorful. The same for the chicken kebab platter as well. The hummus appetizer was creamy and the bread was soft on the inside with a perfect crunch on the outside. Their green hot sauce—wooo! I was tempted to take it home. I kept dropping some on my rice which was fluffy, moist and with a nice saffron aroma. Last, but not least, the customer service was just superb.
Fantastic and authentic Greek eats! The lamb was cooked to perfection, the gyro had the perfect amount of tzatziki sauce, and the in house hot sauces were delicious!!! Unusually, the green was hotter than the red, but both had delicious and unique flavors making it impossible for me to pick a favorite (what a wonderful problem to have). Highly recommend!
Crest review: Troy Greek delivers a solid dining experience. The flavors are vibrant, and the sauces are an absolute standout—rich, flavorful, and truly memorable. The service is impeccable, with attentive and friendly staff who make you feel well cared for. While the Greek salad was a bit on the smaller side, the quality of ingredients and overall attention to detail more than make up for it. A great spot for those who appreciate excellent service and bold Mediterranean flavors!
I’ve been coming to this place for over 8 years now, and they never disappoint! I’ve tried nearly everything on the menu by now (all delicious!) but my usual order is the bowl of lentil soup and a side greek salad (get the orange greek soda too). The soup is the best lentil soup on the island! Hearty, and seasoned perfectly. The service is friendly too. It’s one of the best greek restaurants in the east bay IMO.
Troy is simply amazing! Luma, the store manager is super sweet and provides the best service. Foodwise, I'm a HUGE fan of the Greek fries, and enjoy their gyro meat as well. Check this place out!

Best fries on Solano. All the servers are really nice. This is an establishment with all male servers, so to all the North Berkeley, Albany and El Cerrito women - including all of us older white women - it definitely adds to the ambiance.
Wow!!! One of the best greek spots I've ever tried! I definitely reccomend trying their kefta kabob platter! It was worth it and so flavorful!!! After passing by here many years I finally got to try this! :) See you next time!

Elegant wood dining area, mostly 2-tops, with a full bar against a back wall. It makes for an intimate yet casual atmosphere for enjoying a decent menu of Greek entrees. Have only gone once so far, but the gyro platter and the pastitsio did not disappoint. Good portion size to cost ratios so I was happy. I'm not a drinker but the full bar looked well stocked, including cocktails and some eclectic drinks are on offer. On the list of places to try again for sure, as it satisfied our Greek cravings for Alameda.
Food is awesome! Falafel probably some of the best I've had. Meza plate is very yummy too. Service is probably more European than American, but not terrible. Friendly just a bit more relaxed than we are used to. Atmosphere is nice and relaxed with lots of outdoor and indoor seating. Been twice and will be back.
Decent food. Just ate here outside on the sidewalk area. They have a few tables and maybe not the best dining experience but these days one can't be picky. I ordered a shawarma and it was good but I would have considered it a gyro because of the wrap that they were using but I understand that is a technically.
If you go to the new Troy, go in the evening. The two servers Bernie and Martina are awesome. Bernie is so sweet and social. She remembers customer's names and does her best to give great service. Her co worker is just as nice. Their accents may fool you, they are not Greek, they are Argentinian. We are regulars there and now she even remembers our order. We prefer to go in the evening because of the great service. If you go during the day, the servers are the B-Squad for sure. They don't smile or say much and are not dressed as nice or professional. The chef, Mario is nice too. Our favorite is the beef and chicken skewers, their hummus and pita is delicious. The apple, walnut, Chicken salad is yummy too. The Greek tea is my addiction, and their baklava is so sweet it will leave you with a smile and a toothache.
The chicken shawarma and house gyro are both good, flavorful and not overcooked / dried out. I got wraps for both, the pita bread they use for wraps is very fresh and thick. I would order both again.
Small restaurant but delicious food. I always get the chicken gyro/shawarma, with both sauces and it has never disappointed me. Be sure to order the fries as well..they're extremely crispy and the sauces they have make for great dip.
My fiancé and I dropped by around 7 PM on a Friday. Surprisingly, the place was quiet with plenty of space to choose from. Opting for an indoor table by the window, we quickly dove into their extensive Greek menu. I went for the garlic fries and a large gyro wrap, while my fiancé chose the hummus and chicken souvlaki. The souvlaki was flavorful but a tad too lemony for our taste. The hummus was solid – exactly what you'd expect. The highlight? The garlic fries. A generous portion that was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, served with an incredibly spicy green hot sauce and a milder red sauce. We hit a small snag when my gyro was mistakenly delivered to another table, but the staff quickly fixed the issue and kindly removed it from our bill. Overall, our experience was positive and the food exceeded our expectations. We're definitely coming back for more, especially the gyros, and are excited to explore the rest of the menu
went on a date here, and I would kinda recommend if ur looking for a quiet and lonely place for lunch. Not very popular so it's great if u want someplace quiet. The customer service was meh and a bit slow but, I didn't mind since I had a great time w my date :]
Troy in Alameda has the tastiest Moussaka we've eaten.Simply mouth-watering delicious! The rice was very tasty as well.

All around good Greek comfort food with Greek standards filling the menu. The meats tend to be a bit overcooked and tough but the flavors are there. I enjoy the salads and the meze platter. The service has always been friendly and professional. It's a great place to stop for lunch or casual dinner.

Update: GROUPS: a gratuity is added to your bill if 6+ people are in your group, but they will not tell you. They also struggle to split checks and twice now have messed up, adding extra items in the bill that no one in our group purchased, and the other time failed to split the tax and gratuity so the last to pay had an enormous bill and they couldn't figure out how to split it and ultimately just shrugged like that's your problem, even though they got more than 40% tip both times (we forgot about the gratuity thing and tipped as usual on top of gratuity even though service was mediocre... The server made a couple hundred bucks for about an hour of our presence, checked in once... We eventually asked someone else for our drinks halfway through the meal since they still hasn't been brought out (someone else also served the food, so hopefully they split tips with the whole staff), no silverware and some folks were finishing their meals while others were still getting theirs).. the restaurant was less than half occupied each time so they weren't very busy.. For groups it does say somewhere on the menu about gratuity for groups, but who reads a menu cover to cover? Especially if I like the food enough to take a big group there? We have tried twice now to take sizable groups and introduce them to the food, but the service heavily tainted the experience both times we went and ate in restaurant with our friends. I Do NOT recommend this place for groups. Otherwise okay, but check your bill and your bag before you leave. My old review: (I'm going there less often and I'm not sure if it's my taste buds changing or if the gyros have less flavor, but it's of note.. this below part of the review is more than a year old:) Delicious gyros! But it's been months since we've gone because it broke my heart when we got home and realized they forgot to give us the baclava we paid for :'( They've adopted a bigger placed next door and it's great!! Delicious and nice environment.
I was in the bay area and was craving some Greek food so I looked around and found this place. They have a few locations, but I picked the one in Alameda since it was closer. As far as parking there is a parking lot close by and also Street parking. There is seating inside and they also have seating outside. There was just two people eating outside and the inside was empty. I found that kind of odd for a Sunday afternoon. I was expecting a bit more of decoration inside for it being a Greek restaurant as far as ambience. The only sound inside was coming from a TV showing a baseball game. I ordered the Gyros platter, Chicken Souvlaki Platter, and Greek fries. I was disappointed in the rice and the Gyros platter. Their lamb and beef tasted like it had been sitting for a while, and it did not have much of a good taste. What was really delicious was their grilled chicken. It had a very nice charbroiled taste. I was just disappointed in the fact that they give you only one kabab for the price that they’re charging. The Greek fries were good. The fries were very crunchy and yummy. It just needed more garlic and Parmesan. I did try both of their hot sauce, a red one and also a green one the green one had a cilantro taste it was a mix of flavor but delicious. The other red sauce was spicy, but had a good taste. The server was super attentive and she did amazing hats off to her.
The moussaka was perfect! Loved the grilled vegetables and their pita bread. The spicy sauce is like Mexican salsa, very tasty and spicy! Wasn't too impressed with one of the tzatziki's, it wasn't good anymore, looked brownish and tasted sour. It is a bit disappointing that there wasn't better quality control.
I tried the Gyro wrap and it was really good. However, unfortunately I can't say the same for the service. I would like to offer a small peace of advice: There are two main reasons why a restaurant succeeds. #1 is the quality of food. #2 is the service. In order to succeed, you must have both, not just one. I Drove a long way to try this place, and I was greeted by a not so pleasant server /host. I don't understand this, if you don't like working with people, please don't work at a restaurant. Therefore, unfortunately despite the good food, I can't recommend it. To me, service is as important as the food.

We popped in here on a Sunday afternoon and the service was awful. I'd been wanting to visit since they moved to the bigger space with the full bar and was thoroughly disappointed. When we walked in we were barely acknowledged and had to ask for a drink menu in addition to our food menus. It took just as long for our food as it did for our bloody marys. The gal working did not smile nor even spoke to us when she dropped things off. The food was good but not worth the dine in experience, we will order Togo next time. If I were the owner, I'd be embarrassed that the two people on for the Sunday afternoon seemed utterly clueless and miserable. The lost the business at least two rounds of drinks just by never coming back. Wanted to love this place so much!
Not great, my moussaka was cold in the middle and the waitress never checked in with us on how our meal was. As someone who has worked back of the house and front of the house, I'm pretty unimpressed. From a food safety view it seem pretty clear there not checking internal temps of the food their serving, which can cause food poisoning. From a service perspective not checking in with customers at least once is just bad form. If she had I would have told them my meal was cold, and to reheat the meal. Also, It was a vary light day that Saturday afternoon, only one big party and three small tables. The male waiter seems to be picking up the slack of the waitress. I've been in that position and it sucks I don't know what the power dynamic is but if it lasts, your going to lose a good employee .
Used to be great in person but appears to be struggling under the weight of ghost kitchen economics, wherein only those orders placed with a delivery service are given priority. Tables were left dirty and un-bussed for over half an hour, one unmasked wait staff coughed into open air repeatedly while walking through the restaurant, and ultimately our food was left unaddressed in a bag long enough to be only lukewarm, including the salad, which was boxed with the hot food. Baklava was soggy and stale. Food was ok but hard to judge since it sat for so long. Extra sad because they recently took over a beautiful historic restaurant space that should really be used by a restaurant focused on in person, high quality dining. Two stars because maybe if you order online you'll have an ok meal/better experience, but for now avoid in-person.
I was disappointed with the quality and flavor of the food. We got a platter with dolmas, hummus, falafel, and pita. Dolmas were very dry, like they were old. We also got the garlic fries, chicken souvlaki pita wrap, and spanakopita. The spanakopita was worse than the frozen ones from Trader Joe’s. Barely any filling, just dry and lifeless. Extremely disappointing. The chicken was dry. The only item that I’m not annoyed I paid for is the garlic fries. At least those were decent.

the food is ok but very overpriced! i payed almost 20 $ for a gyro wrap and i tipped for my to go order, when i asked for an extra sauce they charged me 2 $ and gave me a microscopic container of sauce. very disappointed not worth it!
We had to ask for everything plates, forks, water, salt and pepper?? from our waitress Marita! Even though the place was completely empty. Overall bad service. The food was cold and had absolutely no flavor. I would not recommend or return.

If I could give 0 out of 5 stars I would. They forgot the hot sauce and somehow optimized the placement of fries in the bag to create the biggest mess
Despite my complaint, I gotta admit that their food tastes great. I'd say it's one of the better Greek restaurants. But frankly, it's disgusting when my friends and I find a hair strand every two months. First time it happened was in January and we let it go because we understood that everyone's prone to mistake. Second time it happened was in March and we notified the owner and manager; I noticed that some employees weren't wearing head wraps so I told them about it. They said they'll be careful. It happened for the third time today. This has been going on every third or fourth order we placed for the past seven months, which is a clear sign that the owner and managers fail to acknowledge this problem and don't care about fixing it. And this is for some doubters out there: No, we did not finish more than half of the dish and returned it for refund or coupon. It's disgusting. If they can't even prevent the most basic issue like this, imagine countless other sanitation issues that are ongoing in the kitchen. This restaurant's cleanliness and sanitation is way below normal. Don't go to this restaurant; it's disgusting and its owner and managers don't care if you swallow a strand of hair in your plate or gyro. If you still go here, enjoy looking out for a strand of hair before taking every bite.
The service is awful the guys that work here don't greet you or seat you. I was ignored for 10mins no one came to say anything. The food is great. I had visit before with my sister and both enjoyed the meals and atmosphere but this second time os probably the worst.
Hours listed until 9:00 pm. We arrived at 8:30 and were told the kitchen closes at 8:30. They were incredibly rude about it.
Stopped by on Saturday night to have dinner before a movie. This place was maybe half full, but the waiter ignored our table completely. Rather than acknowledge our table, he cleared plates off the adjacent table then walked away. After maybe 10 minutes we left. Very weird experience, maybe this place doesn’t want customers? We walked out and went to Burma Superstar which was great. We had two courses and excellent service, then went to the theater.
Holy moly this place has gone down hill. First, I want to say the waiters were under staffed. They were nice and doing their best. The food was my main gripe. We ordered beef souvlaki and salmon plates and asked to swap the rice with fries. We also ordered two drinks. After waiting about 45 minutes, no drinks came, rice was not swapped and the salmon completely raw. What did make it to the table was a severely over salted beef skewer somehow under cooked inside and tough on the outside. A marvel that’s possible. The waiter gave a free side of fries for forgetting to swap with the rice, but it was after we had finished eating the salty beef bites. I used to love this place before they moved in next door. I am never eating here again. Perhaps this is simply a symptom of the demise of our civilization; a slow collapse into a mad max future.

The chicken shawarma wrap was soggy and was not fresh. The garlic fries were barely decent. It’s hard to mess up fries. I was really disappointed because I was so hungry but the food was not appetizing and I usually like Greek wraps. This was just not good at all. Waste of money!
