Opinions de Forbes Mill Steakhouse Alamo
This evening, my husband took me to a good steakhouse for our anniversary. He always made the note "No salt and Sauce on the side for my wife" on the reservation. So, I ordered Sea Bass for my Entree, and I asked to make it "Plain". The server knew about my special diet request, so he asked me if I would like to replace the seasoned rice to the steamed vegetables. I was so glad and said: " Yes, please." When I was eating my entree, just added some black pepper powder. And they made Salmon so nicely! The green sauce really went well with the salmon. There was a Creamy polenta cakes to go with the Salmon, so ingenuity. We love it. The appetizer of Jumbo Prawn is very fresh. Cesar salad is wonderful, too. The restaurant gave us a special dessert for our Anniversary, So nice of them. Greatly appreciated.
Loved my filet mignon with the house made cognac peppercorn sauce, but I loved the French onion soup more! Also the banana cheesecake foster did not disappoint;)
My husband and I went here for a date night and it did not disappoint. Lighting was bright enough that you can still see your food and read the menu. Dim enough that it's intimate. It's not a huge place, tables are fairly close to each other, but still private enough for your convo to be kept private (unless you're a loud talker). We made reservations beforehand, definitely recommend that. Service was great, our server was on top of things. He timed everything nicely and didn't come in during awkward mid bite moments to check in on us. We both ordered drinks, my husband ordered a Japanese high ball(?), I had the Mai Tai -- drinks are very strong (lol). We had crab cakes for the appetizer, mashed potatoes & brussel sprouts for sides, and warm fruit crisp with vanilla gelato for dessert. My husband had the 16oz ribeye and I had 6oz filet mignon & shrimp scampi, both in medium rare. Steaks were cooked nicely, a bit under seasoned but they have salt and pepper at the table so that worked out. There were some parts of the filet mignon that were a bit on the well side, but still soft because of the cut of meat. Crab cakes were very good! We wished there was more! It came in 2 patties with sauce and pineapple bits. Mashed potatoes were creamy. Brussel sprouts were a bit under seasoned as well, thr bacon bits helped. The warm fruit crisp with vanilla gelato was SUPERB! The gelato is from a local shop down the street, Dolce Spazio Gelato (one of our fav places). Perfect combo, we ordered an extra scoop of vanilla gelato. Bottom line: Great spot for date night. Will def be back!
It is long overdue that I write a review for Forbes Mill. My family comes here for every type of celebration we have. Their manager, Ryan, is always kind and welcoming. Basically every server they have has been there for a long time and knows how to make your experience special. My dad and I both get the blackened ribeye with everything it comes with, but always ask for an extra side of the peppercorn sauce because you know what's good for you. Sides are great. Get the Espresso Martini if you're into them. They make birthdays extra special by putting your name on the prix fixe menu. When I moved last year, I found ones that dated back many, many years. Thank you to the whole business, we love coming here.
Went for my anniversary. They went the extra mile by printing a beautiful menu with our names on it, saying, "Happy Anniversary." The steak was cooked perfectly, the bread and sides were delicious, and our drinks were spectacular. Or waiter was extremely attentive, took pictures for us and kept us smiling. At the end of our meal, we were presented with an anniversary dessert. It was a great time, and Forbes Mill really took the time to make our Anniversary date special.
We venture to this restaurant at least once a year, and it’s exquisite every time. Ben served as our waiter and Mack was our sommelier for the evening. Both were attentive and delightful. Short story; Mack was our waiter the first time we went to Forbes. He left such an impression on us that we started requesting him. Three years later, he is no longer our waiter, but the sommelier. A good sommelier recommends wine, but a great one truly elevates the entire experience. Mack, is a great one. I can’t explain it, but Mack and the entire staff at Forbes go above and beyond to ensure your meal is memorable and enjoyable. It’s echoed in several other reviews, but I feel it’s needs to be reiterated how great the staff is. The food, it’s phenomenal. I’ve never had a bad meal. (Please, don’t skip dessert.) The people, the hospitality and the ambiance keep drawing us back in. I wish I had more friends to bring, I really enjoy every dinner we have here. I can’t wait for our next dinner, cheers!
We managed to get a late booking here, and boy was it worth it. Incredible steaks, with delicious sauces and sides. There's a great wine list with plenty by the glass. It is on the expensive side, but the ambience and service are really great. Our server Jeffrey was so fun to talk to, he really made the evening special!
This place is perfect for a special celebration. We recently gathered here to celebrate a friend’s 60th birthday, and it was an unforgettable experience. We enjoyed the evening with great friends, excellent seafood, and delicious champagne to toast our generation. The atmosphere made the celebration even more special, and everything came together beautifully. This is truly what friends are for—good food, great company, and memorable moments. Cheers to everyone! Highly recommend Forbes Mill in Los Gatos, CA for any special occasion. 🥂
A fine dining experience with a long wine list, cocktails and a menu with all sorts of meat cuts. The restaurant is busy and the cacophony of sounds can get annoyingly loud. The meat was cooked to order and served by an overwhelmed waiting staff that could use more training. The prices are outrageously high.
This is a traditional, high-end American steakhouse. Both the appetizers and the steaks were exceptionally delicious, and the wine list was extensive. My only minor complaint is that we made a reservation for six people, and when the bill came, we found an additional $200 charge for a "large party" that we were not informed about in advance. Other than this one issue, it was a fantastic dining experience.
This was the first time that we've eaten here in a few years. We didn't have reservations, so we sat at the bar. The bartenders were excellent and extremely nice. Zach, who we knew in the past, remembered us and Mark V., there was one more, but unfortunately, I don't remember his name. We started with the Portobello Mushroom & Garlic Tart that was delicious, followed by French Onion Soup that was very good. For our entree's, we had the Australian Lobster Tail so delicious and Steak & Australian Lobster Tail. The steak was very good. I don't recall the name of the dessert.
Second time back. Ordered surf and turf, sisters ordered a rib eye and filet mignon. Had an appetizer of seared foie gras and crab cakes. Finished with a shot of Laphroaig 25, followed by mixed berries and cream parfait while the sisters shared a sorbet. My turf (filet mignon) was a perfect pink. Cut through like a tender sponge cake. Lobster was nice and fleshy, don't forget ot pull out the meat inside the tail shell. The Laphroaig was a deep smoky flavor, but next time I'll be sure to try their Lagavulin 25 Anniversary edition. There's good taste for scotch in this establishment. Looking forward to my third visit in the future.
They live on location and reputation. Yes, decades ago they were good. Now very mediocre food and service. We forget and back very few years. Always the same! Mediocre. Hard to fine “Fine Dining” in the South Bay. Guess I’ll drive up the Village P.
Food is ok. It's not bad, but it's not amazing. Definitely not worth the price. Additionally, the service was just really bad. Not sure if we even had a designated server, but it took 15 minutes to get our order taken. Then at one point we were without water for 15-20 minutes, and then eventually dirty dishes for another 15-20 minutes. We asked two people for our receipt, and they just kept disappearing. I would not be down to spend as much as we did again, and I don’t recommend this.
I went here with my family last night and was very excited to check this place out. We had a reservation for four and when we got there the host decided to seat us in a back room that was separate and completely empty. I requested to be sat in the main dining area and was confused why they sat us separately. The host then said alright and moved us to the main dining area but in a booth in the far corner by the bathroom. I was confused by this behavior since there were empty tables in the middle of the restaurant. 20 minutes later they sat a couple at a four person table in the middle of the restaurant. I don't know if this was blatant racism or what the reason for this treatment was. Beyond this, the food was nothing spectacular and the lobster was chewy and not worth the money. Overpriced and average food. The only redeeming quality was our friendly and kind server. The manager was present and with the host which makes this even more disappointing.
Absolutely disappointing. We’ve been loyal patrons of this restaurant for many years. Although in my opinion, they’re not considered a fine steakhouse, we enjoyed dining there. Tonight we were served (or should I say, not served) by Jeff. A very simple order became an awfully mishandled order. As we placed our order, I requested an additional order of chives with my husband’s baked potato and that’s all he wanted with his baked potato. Upon receiving our dinner, we noticed absolutely no chives with my husband’s order. We reminded Jeff and my husband also requested steak sauce for his steak. We waited for ever and his steak became cold and he reluctantly ate some of it and set it aside. So disappointed with this situation that I got up, went in and asked to speak with on duty manager. He apologized and assured me that he’ll bring it to Jeff’s attention. Long time went by and as another employee stopped by and apologized after asking us what happened, Jeff finally stopped by and not only he never apologized for his terrible service but he deflected by accusing the other helper for not bringing what we’d requested. Then he accused us of having complained about the food in the past and threatening to leave and my husband said we’ve never done that before. He sarcastically said, “oh, it must have been some other customers”. Realizing how challenging running a business such as a restaurant might be, one would hope that after many years since its inception, this restaurant would have a more acute observation when it comes to recognizing the differences between a competent staff from the incompetent one. Jeff also added how these things can happen when one has to also attend to an outside table in addition to the ones inside. What an awful way of handling one’s poor service. We hope the management will look into this matter and hire someone with more integrity.
We went for a retirement celebration dinner. Like many, we ordered the Prix Fixe because they printed your name on it so that was nice. But the food was terrible. Appetizer ok. But the main course was just one tiny piece of fish (less than 2 oz?) and one piece of lamb 90% bones maybe worth one small bite of meat. Food was also room temperature and not hot. I was ready to complain but we didn’t want to ruin the celebration mood. Wine pairings were ok and dessert also just average. We spent $150 each for 4 people, everyone’s main dish was equal tiny and did not taste good. We had to order extra bread just to fill up stomach. What a disappointment! Service was ok just meeting expectation for such price level restaurant. This will be our last time to that restaurant for sure. Felt being fooled by their fancy printed menu.
Disappointing Birthday Dining Experience. I had high hopes for our recent birthday dinner, especially since it came recommended by a local friend. Unfortunately, I have to echo the sentiments of other one-star reviewers. The service was underwhelming, the bread comes with extra charge, and doesn’t even impress, filet mignon was a letdown – dry and bland. To make matters worse, the noise level in the restaurant was so excessive that we could barely hear each other across the table. While the price was admittedly high, the bill came close to $300 for three entrees plus bread, that wasn't our primary concern. Given this experience, we'll definitely be looking elsewhere for future birthday celebrations.
