Opinions de Tanpopo Ramen and Sake Bar Albany
The customer service from our waitress was really great. Got the seafood Ramen which was really good but they didn't have scallops apparently so subbed it for muscles.. I will say my only complaint and only reason I didn't give the food 5 stars was because I got one good tasting muscle and the rest tasted dirty and the fact the egg was a boiled egg that was brown on the outside was a bit funky for me and not very appealing but no other complaints then that. There isn't many drink options but still at least some choices both alcoholic and non alcoholic. The interior was a bit different with dollar bills all over the walls and the booths were a bit tight but a very good experience though all in all.
Small and cozy Ramen Bar, very traditional taste, service was fast and staff was friendly, only street parking lot, don't get confident as i when i saw the space on the back, you will have to move. Other than that, was a great experience, recommend having patience if going in rush hour.
Really great ramen shop with awesome decor and tasty food and drinks. Love the funk diner vibes with dollar bills all over the walls and ceiling. We started with shumai and pork buns for apps followed by Miso, Tanpopo Spicy and Seafood ramens for our entrees all with seasoned boiled egg. We washed it down with the Sapporo on tap and everything was perfectly prepared and delicious. Will definitely be back the next time we're in Albany.
We had a wonderful dinner at Tanpopo after seeing some video on social media. The ramen was fantastic, we ordered the seafood with spicy paste and the beef stew ramen. Definitely add the hard boiled egg and extra noodles on the side to take home for warmup the next day. The bowls were huge and very flavorful. Don’t miss the pork bao buns: the sauce was sweet and pork perfectly tender. The ambiance is unique and a fun vibe. You can bring a dollar bill to write a message and tape to the wall or ceiling. We look forward to returning again!
Always a hit when I go here!!! I like an hour away from this place and drive to get the pork belly buns and tonkotsu ramen. Don't skip the ramen egg! PLUS it feels like stepping into a Studio Ghibli film Ramen shop. It's a little place and parking can be weird but it is so so so worth it. Go here!!
If I could give this place six stars I would!! Fantastic service, food is second to none (used to go to their spot in Schenectady before it closed and this is far better!) and we can't wait to go again! Ramen is awesome and the teppenyaki chicken was amazing! Go here for a nice cozy date night or quick dinner out. It could be in a spot with more room but honestly the smallish size just adds to its appeal...thanks again Tanpopo!!
TANPOPO is the ONLY ramen house that i will order from in 100 miles. The food is always a 10/10, the service is a 10/10, the portions and the price are worth it too. Ive never had anything from them that i didnt love. Cant wait to go back for my birthday soon!
Best Ramen in the capital region. They have a great selection of appetizers and dinners if Ramen isnt your thing. One of our favorite places for a lunch date.
Tried the Curry Chicken Spicy Ramen here and it was fantastic. The broth was rich, flavorful, and had just the right amount of heat without being overwhelming. The shredded chicken was tender, the noodles were perfectly cooked, and the half-boiled egg added a nice creamy balance to the spice. The portion size is generous, and it’s definitely a hearty, comforting meal. If you enjoy bold flavors and a good kick of spice, this one’s worth ordering.
We were really in the mood for ramen to end our road trip and came by this really unique restaurant! The setup and vibes were immaculate, and it truly felt like stepping into a piece of history. That being said, it is a smaller establishment and might not be suitable for large groups. We ordered the pork belly buns, 2 of the teppanyaki chicken with rice, and 2 of the tonkotsu ramen. The food was delicious, and the cut of the pork in both the buns and the tonkotsu ramen were perfect! The only thing to note is that we did end up waiting 20+ minutes for our food. But all in all it was a great and delicious experience!
The place had such a cool & authentic/unique atmosphere, I liked looking at all the 1$ money 🤑. The waitresses (Alex and Gianna) were so nice and kind to us, and to the other customers we observed! They food was also SOOOOOOOOO good!!! The steamed pork belly buns were the best I have ever had so far in my life! (Even though they were the first steamed pork buns I have ever had in my life), The ramen was so big that the three of us split it three ways and it did NOT disappoint. It was so flavorful and the mung bean sprouts added just the right amount of crunch. And the broth was TO DIE FOR, I've had multiple ramen for like DOUBLE the price of this with HALF the flavor, but this had ALL the flavor AND SOME EXTRA!!! Alex was also so nice for giving us a bag of ice so we didn't have to buy some ourselfs :) 10000000% recommend!
This was my first time having real ramen, which is a lot like pho, and I really liked it. The crab rangoons crush the kind you get at a typical Chinese restaurant. The pork belly buns are unique and super tasty. The place is located in an old school diner, which is cool. I will say that the bathroom unintentionally mimics something you’d find in one of those tiny Japanese apartments, which I guess adds to the experience.
It's my first time dining at the place. Cute, cozy, and casual place with serious flavor. I tried the Tanpopo spicy ramen with a boiled egg. Broth is so good for cold weather. Great taste and food portion. Menu is not huge, so you know everything will be good. Definitely will return for more after all the snow storm.
Best Ramen in Albany. Looking for ramen? LOOK NO FURTHER. They know how to KISS: Keep It Simple & Sensational! The only food you can order is either apps or ramen, and they both extremely well. Full-bodied broth, and high quality meats and veggies, and an orchestra of of smell and taste to leave you speechless. Quite literally, it is fairly quiet in the restaurant because of how fully immersed people are with the dishes. And the staff is great happy bunch, eager to help you get cozy and make the right choices. It is a small spot so be prepared to wait if you want a booth, and don’t park in the back lot! But there’s free parking across the street after 6 pm.
Stumbled across this awesome 1940's diner that's is now home to a Ramen and Sake restaurant. The steamed pork belly buns were amazing and some of the best I have had. I had the curry ramen and the was the first time I had it and that was spicy and so good, great recommendation Becky! Can't wait to visit and eat here again.
Great spot and never had a problem. Delicious. Cozy spot for lunch and they are pleasant about separate billing.

Tasty food, at reasonable prices, with a very attentive wait staff. Apparently I need to add more characters to be able to post this review so, I think I met the character minimum now.

Food was good. Very spicy but not over baring. Nice portions. Dumplings tasted normal how they were suppose to taste. Nice sized dumplings too. We ordered Hot Green Tea that came out warm. Very tite space inside. When we sat down we felt a draft of cold air. Other than the cold air we felt 7/10. Definitely would try again when it’s not cold out.
This is the most highly rated Ramen place in the Capital District. I was excited but sadly it didn’t live up-to my expectations. The spicy chicken ramen was kind of bland, wish they had more options in chicken ramen. The Teppanyaki chicken with side of fried rice with pork was good only as we wanted something that had some stir fried veggies with rice. The best tasting were the pork dumplings, the meat was nicely caramelized before steaming. I also loved the sparkling light & sweet sake that came in a small bottle which one can finish easily. The ambience was good too, small old diner with a few booths and bar sitting option. It can get crowded even during non peak hours due to its popularity.
server was very attentive and friendly. Food was great, Atmosphere was sketchy, would not have tried if not meeting friends. Definitely would go again.

I came here back in March because I was in town for a conference. This place was recommended by everyone so I came over. I ordered the dumplings and the pork ramen. Now the dumplings were not good;…
Went here based solely on the name. The vibes looking in from the outside are very cute and once you get inside you have your choice of a booth or a big wooden bar with seating on both sides. It’s very cozy, but I got their spicy tampopo tonkatsu ramen and everything about it was mediocre - it was lukewarm, the pork chasu tasted a bit freezer burnt, and the flavor was okay. I would go back for the vibes, but not for the food.
Tampopo Ramen & Sake Bar is a Japanese noodle and sake eatery located in a charming rundown 1941 diner on a Broadway block of Albany NY, adjacent to several other drinks and dining spots. Japanese noodle and other dishes are between $10–20, not including sake. Vegetarian fare is available. Pair a bowl of ramen with the house-made pork dumplings (gyoza) and a glass of sake. (The other gyoza offerings are no doubt of the frozen commercially available varieties.) In Japan, there is a practice of pasting 1,000 yen notes to the walls of eating establishments known as "omamori" (お守り). Doing so creates a charm bringing good luck to the eatery and its customers. Tampopo Ramen follows this talismanic practice with one-dollar bills. The walls and ceiling are covered with hundreds of dollar bills. While the soup stock is adequate, the ramen is nothing to write home about and is probably available in a plastic bag at the Asian Market on Central Ave. The sake menu is a nice surprise with varieties and a price range. Dining reviews are always a tradeoff between food, service, ambiance, so on. Go for the funky ambiance and then the food. Tampopo Ramen should definitely feature in the next Studio Ghibli animation. You enter from the street on Broadway, where you exit is anyone’s guess—maybe Cafe "Mugiwaraboshi"? ご馳走様でした.
Amazing ramen at reasonable prices. The restaurant has a rusty feeling. We got Tanpopo ramen and vegetarian ramen. Both tasted good. We also got the spicy pork buns and shumai dumplings. The spicy pork buns were delicious. Definitely recommend ordering them. The ramen was good and the portion size was huge. Highly recommend the tanpopo spicy over the vegetarian one. Vegetarian ramen was bland is not usually something I prefer. We were there on a weekend and didn't have to wait to get a table. Service was quick. I definitely recommend this place for the ramen and spicy pork buns.

They took over 30 mins to bring us our food while we know the broth is ready to serve. The food was mid at best and I paid 3 extra dollars for an over cooked egg. Don’t get fooled people, there are better options elsewhere!
