The Boerum Hill Black Seed spot always delivers on quality and customer service! We have been ordering from them for a bit now and it's continually delicious and fresh and every staff member is amazing, especially the manager!
I've lived in NYC for almost 20 years and Black Seed is my favorite bagel. Some things to know about Black Seed: it's expensive and it's going to take a while - but if this is your type of thing, it's a fair trade. Another thing to know about Black Seed in the past: the employees were dismissive, rude, and inconsistent. That's not the case anymore, or at least at this location. The staff at this location is super friendly, incredibly helpful, and took their time to do the best they could to get my order right and optimized for my experience. Really thrilled this location is here and with such a great team.
Fast and kind service. Gluten-free bagel was incredible. Black Seed respects the schmear!
Great bagels. Really good texture and flavour from These bagels. They are normal size which is great not those behemoth ones some shops sell. Love them and a food selection of flavours. Welcome to the neighborhood.
10/10 - Visiting from the UK Food was great with fast service
The best bagels!! Gluten and dairy free were winners! Tasty and fast delivery. Yummy! Yum!
They were helpful in quickly fixing a pickup order when they realized they didn’t have the type of bagels requested. They called me immediately to see other options available for me. Just plain good service. Very happy.
This morning I ordered a Cinnamon Raisin bagel with mayo, smoked turkey and swiss cheese. When I tell I devoured that sandwich, it was sssssooooo DELICIOUS. The best DAMN bagel in a long time. I recommend Black Seed to the universe!
Visited a few times while visiting and staying at a local hotel in downtown Brooklyn. Friendly and fast service in this busy spot. Got the Bacon Egg & Cheese on an everything bagel. Lots of bacon and cooked just right. A little expensive for a breakfast sandwich but was big and tasty.
I love Black Seed Bagels, some of the best in NYC, with their smaller size and chewy texture, not like those gargantuan doughy blobs most places sell. I do wish they would slice bagels purchased in bulk, however!
I’ve been obsessed with Black Seed Bagels since I accidentally stumbled upon it. (The multigrain everything bagel is my favorite) Gabi had an AMAZING attitude and awesome energy eveb though it was CRAZY busy. And not for nothing, it may be a bagel shop, but do yourself a favor and get a sandwich: they’re DELICIOUS
Stopped here on the way to the subway because they had gluten free options, and my sister has an allergy. I got the jam & nut butter bagel, and honestly the moment I bit into it, it was the best jam I'd ever had.
Black Seed Bagels, located in Boerum Hill next to the Ace Hotel, is SO good! I visited for the first time this weekend, and I was so impressed with their food + coffee. I tried their Everything Bagel topped with their Hot Honey Cream Cheese and, oh my God, it was so delicious!! I had an Iced Chai Latte as well (with oat milk, as they do have milk alternatives on the menu), and it paired so well with my breakfast. Although there is limited seating inside, the place is warm and cozy if you choose to dine-in after you order. The staff were kind + efficient during my visit, too!!
A delicious meal with many bagel options on the menu. Coffee is top grade and refreshing. Would like more seating but otherwise love it.
The Boerum Hill Black Seed spot provides quality food and customer service! My family and I have been ordering from them for a bit now and it's continually delicious and fresh and every staff member is amazing. I particularly like their style of bagel, crunchy outside and soft dough inside. I had an especially amazing interaction with the manager, who was so helpful in resolving a mistake (that's rare) to our order.
Love this bagel spot! Great vibes, great service, and the friendliest staff. Shoutout to Jennifer the barista she was super kind and Alex for being so attentive with my order!
Black Seed staff is kind, courteous, and remain perpetually positive despite some customers before me today who were very negative energy. Black Seed staff deserve gold metals!!! They shine through the clouds... Always!!! The food is amazing!!!!! Update: I love everyone there!!!! The staff continues to be amazing and friendly and help me boost my mood 100+ prior to my work day. I have gluten allergies and love their gluten free options !!!!!! Happy Holidays to all!!!! Staff of GOLD!!!!!
A great place to get a bagel if you're in the area. Good bagels with a lot of shmear. Good seating and fast delivery of a basic order. Right next to a hotel, gym, train station, and you can grab and go. Coffee is good too. I think its a overall good place to grab a NYC bagel with a coffee. They also have different drinks and orders too and the staff is super nice.
Great spot to grab a bagel in Brooklyn. Small space so not too much room to sit as many people try to set up laptops and juat hang...but if you get a seat to eat well worth it. I got the Classic Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on Plain. Nice toasted bagel and good amount of bacon, Worth It!!! Coffee was good and strong also, for all the black coffee drinkers.
Cute bagel shop at the foot of the ace hotel!
If you are visiting NYC and looking for an authentic bagel, this is *not* it. An authentic NYC bagel spot doesn’t have cute branding or online ordering. An authentic place has Boar’s Head signage and staff handwriting orders. Blackseed is good insofar as it is convenient, and a meh bagel is still pretty good. But these bagels are not up to NYC standards. This is a PSA for the tourists staying at the Ace Hotel that come in here. No shade to the good people who work at Blackseed :) And if you just need a fast and easy breakfast, this is perfectly fine.
Coffee is excellent. I had a multigrain bagel with cream cheese and it was satisfying. Seating was available and I watched busy Brooklyn and enjoyed my bagel and coffee. Staff is efficient.
This place has the BEST bagels in Brooklyn!. Perfect texture/ flavor, and always fresh. Every time I come here I leave happy. Love this bagel spot so much it’s my favorite!
I’ve been having Blackseed bagels since Nolita days. And that was the only location. This is by far the best location. They are consistent. My bagels are always perfectly toasted. Eggs perfectly done. Never overcooked. Staff is friendly and they take their time making the bagels despite the rush. You see them delicately making everything to perfection instead of throwing on whatever. They also use really local high quality dairy milks for their coffee. Which a lot of spots stopped doing.
I never thought I would ever crave anything besides a bacon, egg and cheese… until I had Black Seed. I ordered from here for the first time and got the pastrami, egg and cheese with spicy mayo on an everything bagel to go. It came wrapped in the cutest packaging and everything was secure. The moment I took a bite, I was completely satisfied. I even had to slow down because it was that good and I didn’t want to get indigestion 😭. Now, the only con is that I ordered via Uber Eats and it came to a total of $18.33, which is expensive for a breakfast sandwich. But honestly, I didn’t regret a single bite 😭. I definitely recommend Black Seed. If you can go in person, I’d suggest that to avoid the extra fees.
Divine Montreal-style bagels. My top choice was the Classic 2.0, opted to sub the pastrami-spiced salmon for regular salmon. It’s worth the $15 you’ll pay. Loved the pickled green tomato. My friend enjoyed a gluten-free plain bagel and hot honey butter. The restaurant is just counter space and a little tight.
Had an amazing bagel, the Classic 2.0. The pastrami salmon is to die for and paired with the scallion cream cheese, I died and went to heaven. The pickled green tomato was a little much but I just picked it off (I know for the future to 86 it). Will be back for sure. Also, the young lady handing out orders wished everyone a great day. It wasn't a canned statement, she changed it up and sounded very sincere. It was an excellent touch to the day
What a Great little corner bagel shoppe Brooklyn. I stayed at the hotel upstairs for a few days and was greatly relieved after trying Blackseed downstairs. Extremely soft bagels mixed with a great cream cheese was exactly what I wanted and exactly what I got. When I walked in I was instantly greeted by a few staff. (Nice, that touch seemed to be lacking recently in other shops) Dominic and rest of the crew were outstanding. Tomorrow I need to protect by bagel by putting lox on it….
Stumbled upon this gem while in town for a conference. The pastrami, egg, and cheese everything bagel was fresh and so good. The cold brew is delicious. So tasty, I had breakfast there two days in a row. The online ordering was easy, and the food was ready when I arrived. I highly recommend this quaint, local spot.
The bagels and coffee at this place are fresh and delicious. They offer various bagels; you can taste the high quality in every bite. However, the prices are high, which is typical for New York City. It's important to note that a simple cup of black coffee costs $5. The main downside of this place is the lack of seating and insufficient staff. There's often a long line because only one cashier is working, and that same cashier is also preparing the drinks. Despite these drawbacks, it's an excellent spot for a fullfilling breakfast or snack.
TRUST THE FAT MAN!!! I travel extensively and I found the first ever bagel I loved un-toasted. By far, the best bagel I have ever had. I went for my favorite sesame with plain cream cheese. It was fantastic. Topped that with the pastrami egg and cheese on an everything bagel and I am very happy I did. 1st time here , but not the last!!!!
Any place with a gluten free bagel is already 4 stars for me but for it to actually taste good…I would give this place a 10! I have not stopped thinking about it since I had it. You can create your own sandwich and I got bacon, lettuce, tomato with hot honey pimento cream cheese. I highly recommend!!!
Always delicious and made quickly both when placed online or in person. The bagel sizes are inconsistent across the board. So you’re paying the same price for a sometimes unusually small bagel or an unusually large one. Occasional rudeness from the cashiers. 4 stars!
Even after walking around for awhile & the bagel not being “right out of the oven” fresh, it was delicious. The bacon is perfect & I usually don’t like a runny egg on my sandwich but I would definitely get this again
Glad my experience was different from everyone else’s. I had a poppy seed bagel with scallion cream cheese and a tomato. They prepared the order quickly but upon opening it up, it was missing the tomato. So i had to go back and let them know. Luckily i was just sitting outside. They quickly made me a new bagel. Bagel - 5/5 nice and doughy Cream cheese - 3/5 this cc is MILD, so i think this is why everyone is complaining about the taste. Over all solid bagel.
The owners of Black Seed Bagel should be in jail for abuse of their excellent staff. I have noted that for the three days I've stayed at the Ace Hotel, the Black Seed bagel workers gave had to work without air-conditioning. This is disgusting and cheap on the part of management. I know that the shop has AC, but obviously, management is too cheap to use it, which in my mind constitutes abuse!
Pretty decent. The classic 2.0 is a good take on lox bagel but wish it had a bit more salmon. Service was quick and counter seating available.
We got two normal bagels and one gluten free. The lox and dill spread that I had on the everything toasted bagel was really solid and fun. I would have never thought of putting dill in cream cheese but some genius over at seed bagel hq thought of it. The homemade almond butter my wife for was delicious. She said next time she'd get it on a cinnamon raisin bagel instead the whole grain (or multi grain whatever it's called) the best thing were the decaf lattes with almond milk. Perfect for a rainy cold day after the Brooklyn half marathon. The gluten free bagel was decent certainly better than anything we've found in CT and I wish they toasted it a wee bit more.
Excellent bagels! Normal sized, (not necessarily huge), plenty of flavors of bagels and cream cheese to choose from. My everything bagel and scallion scream cheese was very good. Good system to order in the front and pickup in the back. Very clean and bar stools to eat at. My friend got hot honey cream cheese and it was to die for. Enjoy!
Food is great! Can get pretty packed on the weekends. Most staff is lovely and go above and beyond to service customers. I am a regular and some staff remember my name and kindly greet me when we see each other. Keep coming back!
Excellent staff. Large menu. Yes prices are high, but pricing going up everywhere and it's attached to the Ace Hotel. It's not a Bodega. Besides breakfast bagels, they have large selection of lunch bagels. Things on Court St may appeal to people looking for "authentic Brooklyn", but this place is solid and a great addition to the neighborhood. I usually get the BEC breakfast bagel.
Fire oven yet not crunchy on the outside or chewy on the inside. Lame. Add it to the long list of boring brooklyn bagels.
Fresh, light, delish, what a good, quick breakfast should be. The lightly smoked Turkey, Egg & Cheese on an Oat Bagel, divine. The Turkey had a kiss of smoke, not overpowering and fresh. It DIDN'T taste "processed". Pleasantly surprised. The classic BEC (Bacon, Egg & Cheese) on an Everything Bagel, was every bit scrumptious. The bacon tasted fresh & lightly cured, again, NOT processed. Only issue of concern was a mild, white Cheddar used versus the Sharp flavor of a yellow, more robust one. Both sandwiches needed an little oomph from the cheese and the Sharp/Extra Sharp would've been perfect. At a minimum, should've been offered. Overall, great way to start the day.
Wow, breakfast at $20+, definitely not a pocket friendly one, but that's New York City for you hey. It's a good bagel overall with very generous amount of cream cheese. The smoked salmon ratio is a bit little compared to the cream cheese, but still all good. The surprise was actually the latte coffee, which tasted really good.
I was pretty excited to try the Bao-gel, a current special they are advertising out front of the store. This was very disappointing, its supposed to be like a cross between a bagel and a roast pork bun. Sadly the bottom of the bun was rock hard, possibly from the oven they reheated it in, and the pork inside was way fattier than expected, and not as tender or as flavorful as would be expected from a chinatown bakery. To make it worse, it was just a tad under $10, so i could have gotten 5 delicious chinatown pork buns, or round trip subway fare and two delicious chinatown buns, for less money, and more enjoyment.
Beautiful location but definitely not the best smoked salmon scallion cream cheese and pumpernickel bagel I’ve had. Yes it’s pricey but you’re paying for the courteous staff, location and the non bodega bagel joint. Glad I tried but it definitely won’t be my go to.
Ordered online and it was easy peasey, lemon squeezey! Upon arrival I simply walked in and grabbed my bag that had my bagel and coffee all set. A great experience and the plus… it tastes great too! Big fan!
Really underwhelming. Bagels were bready. Egg sandwich had very thin egg slice, and very little cheese. Almond butter and jelly sandwich had hardly any jelly. Disappointing because I’ve enjoyed the Elizabeth St location Look, it’s a sandwich, maybe you’ll like it, but IMO you’re better off going to one of many corner delis in the area. NY delis are known for generous proportions.
I came away covered in cream cheese that tasted more like water than cream cheese . The bagels were just OK. The average rating for this place is accurate and says something. I wonder if their motto is "service with a scowl..." Nice space however.
Sandwiches are decent but double the price of a normal bagel shop. $10-12 for a breakfast sandwich. Also, they steam the egg (or use a similar method) that is not as good as cooking the egg on a hot surface. The stool seating is nice and they smartly separated the front counter from the food pickup area. The service was very attentive and friendly.
I really wanted to love this place and these bagels but damn, I've had better bagels honestly. :( The fried eggs were somewhat raw and it almost felt like the cheese to egg ratio was off- more cheese then egg. Staff was friendly and they have a great set up!
I've been here twice and both times did not love the food. Most recently I got an egg salad bagel on everything and the bagel was so burnt that's all I could taste. A few bites in I decided to just eat the inside, which was a very thin layer of egg salad and a tiny bit of the veg toppings, and it all had no flavor.
Breakfast sausage bagel is way too salty. Very unfortunate I was looking forward to something that would feel like St Viateur in Montreal. Maybe I will try it again next time but plain.
The staff there works their butt off and stays calm and collected when in the weeds. However, today they were packed with people waiting for their order, mine took 20 minutes for a bagel with cream cheese and tomato. They’re should have been a manager to have them pause Grub Hub so they can take care of their in house customers.
Just dont get their cream cheese. (Weirdly has zero flavor). Or lox bagel (only if you like a lot of tomato). Everything else we've gotten has been good.
Was really looking forward to the opening of this place as there aren't any other bagel shops near that block, but unfortunately this place is just not it. Bagels are overpriced, too dense, and don't taste great; bacon egg and cheese was just ok. The only bottled drinks available are all $6, which is absolute highway robbery; you can get fresh squeezed juice elsewhere for cheaper than that. There are no cheaper drink options. Overall it's worth the extra walk to go to one of the better bagel places in the area.
The service here is surprisingly bad. Between being served a caffeinated drink when I asked for decaf, to a coffee barista who seemed to forget he needed to make my order at all (it shouldn't take ten minutes to make an americano), to food staff who don't call out when mobile orders are finished (I waited for about 15 minutes without knowing my order was ready for pickup on the counter for the past 10 - no one ever called it out) - I can't say there's much to really recommend about this place. Sure the bagels taste good but you can get them even better at the places that have been in the neighborhood for a lot longer - for cheaper.
The bagels are fine, but the wait totally sucks. One of those places that does too much doordash business to serve in-person customers in a reasonable time. There are plenty of other bagel places in the city.
Got the Salmon Classic on a Toasted Everything bagel. While the item itself wasn't bad, it was ~50% cream cheese, which I found excessive. I didn't really enjoy the bagel, especially since it was expensive (compared to getting breakfast elsewhere. It might be on par with other salmon bagels in NYC). Would not come back.
A truly horrible bagel. No texture, burnt and flat. I can get a better one literally anywhere else in the country. Service was fine, atmosphere was nice. That is all.
this establishment unfortunately desperately needs new management. my friends and i all frequent this shop as it is very convenient but almost every time we go we regret it. it is not only poor and borderline disrespectful service, there is a massive level of disorganization and lack of structure to the point where it can take 20 minutes to get a mediocre bagel. highly recommend konditori, a small business just a 7 minute walk from this location.
I frequent this place a lot just due to proximity, but yesterday I got a bagel with veggie cream cheese and it was moldy. Unfortunately I didn’t realize until I already had half of it. I called them to let them know their cream cheese was moldy but they seemed completely unfazed and said I could come in for new veggie cream cheese. ?????? If it’s from the same batch it would still be moldy ?!! I felt really sick from it all day and still feeling nauseous this morning. They didn’t seem to care at all and definitely weren’t going to do anything about it so veggie cream cheese should definitely be avoided. The bagel was also rock hard. If you must go, sandwiches are usually fine, but bagels are not fresh and terrible untoasted so make sure you get your bagel toasted.
SIX DOLLARS FOR THE NATALIES ORANGE JUICE 16oz size. I just got ROBBED. Blank Street has it for $3.81 with tax. Aside from the orange juice scamming the Salmon Classic was pretty basic. Nothing to recommend really, service was a bit lackluster and overall it just seems like because it’s attached to a hotel quality/service is subpar.
The Bagels are small as is, but the last 4-5 times, I've noticed that recently they have been cutting the bagel smaller when they cut it in half. You can visibly see a smaller slice of bagel that won't fit with the other side. Would've thought it happened by mistake if it happened once. But this happened every time I went in there the last 4 times. The Bagels taste good and the size of the bagels is fine if they didn't cut it smaller. Seems ridiculous to pay so much for a small bagel made even smaller. The cream cheese has also been tasting a bit different the last month and isn't as tasty as it used to be.
I live across the street and was excited to make this my new breakfast spot. I’ve been about 6 times and every time it’s disappointing, from them being out of ingredients like bacon for a sandwich, to not toasting a bagel/getting an order completely wrong. I tried one more time today and got a plain bagel with veggie cream cheese. It tasted fine but spending $6 for a smaller than average bagel did not feel good. My bagel was made and wrapped and put on the counter, along with another order. The woman calling out order numbers was engaged in what sounded like a non-work-related, friendly conversation with her coworker. After trying to get their attention to no avail, I grabbed my bagel and left. Last time I will go or suggest it to anyone. I’ll be at the Dunkin’ Donuts a block away where I’ve only ever experienced quality, value, and good customer service.
I came into this new establishment very excited to get a bagel. I asked for a veggie bagel (with tofu cream cheese)(which I didn’t get with my order). While I was waiting i decided to add lox to it. I went to the cashier and let her know so she can charge me (I was charged and extra $8.66) for the lox. On top of paying $8.45 for the original bagel (that’s way too much). The bagel wasn’t all that and the avocado was spoiled. Sorry also on top of all that; they also don’t know how to build a bagel with the right proportions!
Thanks for quality bagels but cream cheese taste is very bad seriously I feel like eating cardboard no taste at all you need to work on that also why my bagels with cream cheese smells like bacon aftertaste probably kitchen working sloopy
This is probably the worst bagel I have ever eaten. I have lived in NYC all my life and I never ate a bagel this bad. They should refer to the bagels as butter cardboard. And on top of that I ordered coffee and it was warm. It wasn’t like I ordered online no, this was fresh coffee and it was warm. -2/10.
Terrible service and zero accountability from the manager. I placed an online order on 5/27/23 for my family for $165.83 worth of bagels (order 23473T). When the order arrived we started eating them one by one, and we realized there was a missing bagel. We went to the store to complain about the missing bagel, and they gave us a $10 coupon (the missing bagel's cost was $15) and when we asked to speak with the manager, he said he was busy and wouldn't tell us this to our face. If you're going to screw your customers over at least show your face. The shift with the unaccountable manager was on 6/3/23 at 12:30pm.
The service was friendly and helpful, but these bagels are NOT NYC bagels...dense and soft. What a weird texture. If you want a strangely crumbly and delicate in a bad way texture, these bagels are for you. Otherwise, there are better bagels all over Brooklyn and NYC.
Unreliable service and chaos when even the least bit busy. I ordered 3 basic bagels and waited about 25 minutes before leaving without my order. It’s Brooklyn, go anywhere else and have your bagels made instantly.
Don’t bother. Wasted 45mins on a Saturday morning for a basic order and just left without it instead of wasting more of my time. Go to another local bagel shop that can make your order in front of your eyes in under 2 mins.
Used to deliver on Seamless and switched to Uber eats. Now takes almost 2 hours for any food delivery. No all the food is delivered cold or soggy. Makes zero sense. Great bagels extremely overpriced. Starting to feel like a corporation. -Reply to owners response. It is the company's policy to stop using Seamless and use Uber Eats to bring down company's cost and try to force consumers to use company's own delivery. You are in control of which dispatcher you use for delivery services. Stop making it the consumer's fault for your corporate greed.
Flavorless - super slow and missing items. 20+ dollars per bagel and a waste of money. This is probably the worst bagel I’ve had in my entire life.
👎 I went to this store twice just to make sure my first bad experience wasn’t a fluke. Nope—turns out slow service is their personality. They had 6 people in the kitchen, but it still took them 20 minutes to make… two bagels. At that point I thought they were holding a full staff meeting about my order. And the bagel options at Black Seed? Let’s just say “limited” is generous. If plain and boring had a baby, it’d be their menu. 🥯
Worst service ever. 😱 Passed by this place several times, the pictures on the outside looked tempting, I thought should give it a try. While the coffee was passable, and the bagel looked better then it tasted. The service definitely excelled in being poor. The whole package clearly didn't justify its $20+ price tag. The “coveted award” should definitely go to the big lady at the ordering station. Haven't had such rude, bad service for a while. There are plenty of food options in NYC. Black Seed wouldn't be one of mine. 😐
