Very small but authentic place, popular with the lunch crowd. Great food and quick service. Highly recommend the S15 — roasted duck, Shanghai noodles, and wontons in broth. Add chili oil and vinegar to taste, and try not to fall asleep after this delicious lunch.

HK Wonton Garden has been my go to spot in New York for over 20 years, and it’s still just as good as the very first time I visited. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and comforting. The service is fast and friendly, and despite how much the city has changed, the prices here have remained incredibly reasonable which is hard to come by these days. Two people can easily enjoy a full, satisfying meal for around $20 with a tip, and the quality never disappoints. The portions are generous, and it’s clear the team takes real pride in what they serve. After all these years, this spot continues to be a true gem in the city. Whether you’re a longtime local or just stopping through, it’s absolutely worth a visit.

This is my Chinatown go-to; I've been here many times by myself or with my friend/family! A staff member recognized me; she was so friendly and started speaking Vietnamese to me once I told her I'm from Vietnam 😧🫶 I wish I had taken more photos of the food, but it was so good that every time I was eager to eat, cleaned the plates, then realized I forgot to take pictures 🥹 The photo below is the dish I got in my most recent visit: Shanghai noodles with beef tendons and big wontons. The broth was rich and fragrant. The beef tendons were so soft yet still a little chewy, which is my favorite texture when it comes to tendon. The wontons were big and filled with pork and shrimp. However, I wish the noodles had more flavors, either through seasoning or the broth clinging to them. Overall, it was a yummy and hearty dish that I'd willingly sweat over to eat in a NYC summer. In my previous visit with my family, we ordered a variety of dishes, and they were all great: rice with beef strips, rice with pig feet and sauce, sauteed mixed vegetables, half a roasted duck, chicken feet with black bean sauce, siu mai, and steamed cantonese har kow. The meal resembles what we'd have for dinner. We cleaned all the plates: they were THAT good, so I'd recommend any dish above. Overall the price here is affordable and the food is totally worth it. The atmosphere was chill and service was efficient. I'd come back here every time I get the chance to!!

Our Chinatown favorite go-to for years !! The vegetable dumplings are packed with veggie mushroom goodness and authentic Cantonese flavor. Also, the roast pork fried rice is srsly the best in NYC, they are especially generous with the pork and other ingredients. Shrimp with lobster sauce is also fantastic.

Perhaps one of the most endearing dishes in Chinese cuisine is wonton soup. It’s well known and loved by many, and there have been many variations depending on where in Asia one goes. Located on Mulberry Street in NYC's Chinatown, HK Wonton Garden is one of those places to eat authentic Cantonese food where I came for lunch today. With a very plain exterior front, I was greeted by the staff upon entering at an old-school vibe with different monetary currencies taped to the walls. As a repeat patron, I easily got a table by the kitchen. Some of the staff still wore the Hawaiian shirts and served up some tasty offerings. The menu is extensive for wonton and noodles, both with soup or dry, among other dishes. I decided on the wonton with noodle soup and sui mai. These were average pieces of pork and shrimp encased in this lovely wrap. For many years, this has been my favorite comfort food: a well-made bowl of hearty, authentic Hong Kong-style wonton noodles with the right taste and textural profile and using the correct condiments to create the desirable final end results. In Cantonese, ‘wonton’ roughly translates to ‘clouds’ as the wontons look like clouds floating in the soup and use thin wrap. Most dumplings are usually served with a thicker wrap. The meal began with a hot cup of tea. The food came out quick and hot. The flavor was unique and consistent, and the prices were fair as compared to other places. The portions were just right, and the staff efficient. I continue to recommend this place.

H.K. Wonton Garden: A Good Wonton, But a Limiting Experience H.K. Wonton Garden is a noodle house that, on its merits, serves genuinely good food. The fundamental quality of the cooking—from the savory broth to the perfectly textured noodles—is high, and the freshness of the ingredients is evident in every bite. Yet, despite this strength, my overall experience was marked by significant limitations that ultimately lead to a negative recommendation. The most glaring issue, from my perspective, was the severe lack of options for specific dietary needs. As someone who avoids both pork and seafood, I found the menu shrink dramatically. While these two ingredients are staples of Cantonese cuisine, a modern establishment should offer thoughtful alternatives. My choices were few, and navigating the menu felt restrictive and disappointing, suggesting the restaurant caters to a very narrow demographic. Beyond the main courses, the condiment situation was also underwhelming. The only sauces available were variations of hot sauce. For diners who prefer milder additions like chili oil, vinegar, or sweet sauces to complement their dish, the options simply weren't there. This lack of variety further contributes to the feeling that the dining experience is inflexible and fails to meet common expectations for a noodle spot. In conclusion, while I can appreciate the care taken in the preparation of the core dishes, the restrictive menu for non-seafood/non-pork eaters, coupled with the limited condiments, significantly detracts from the meal. Good quality alone cannot overcome a poor selection. I cannot recommend H.K. Wonton Garden to others, and based on this visit, I will unfortunately not be returning.

The beef rice noodles were delicious. The duck was good too, but not as good as in Beijing :). Service and cleanliness were solid, and it felt safe to visit with the whole family.

Everyone there was friendly. The food didn't come out at the same time. The drinks are in cans and weren't cold. The sweet and sour chicken didn't have enough sauce and they seemed very busy to come add sauce.(I could have asked) They didn't have egg rolls or Crab Rangoons, again, the menu was large, but these are things I expected to see. Some of the noodle dishes were cold and I am sure it would have been corrected had we said something. We paid over $80 and to be honest it wasn't worth it. Not in Chinatown, NY.

Beef wonton soup noodles. The portion of beef is great. Wonton kind of cold in the soup. Elderly server so don’t expect good service. The menu showed $10 for my noodles. They offer me hot tea. I was charged $11+ $2. Have no idea how this calculate. So I will say not worth! I need food serve hot

This WAS my regular go-to place preCOVID, but food quality has definitely decreased since. It's been a while since I've been here. I was a bit embarrassed to even hype this place up. Noodle texture was the only best part of this visit, tho my noodle soup bowl was luke warm (at best) for something that was just made (they prep it in the front). Wonton quality has decreased significantly as well. Definitely nowhere near as plump as the other places nearby ***WARNING TO THOSE WHO DON'T EAT PORK, THE SOUP BASE IS MADE OF PORK BONES & CHICKEN BROTH*** Our table had also ordered the beef & broccoli delish to share, for almost $22, you'd expect a fair amount...NOPE. Very disappointing. *****ALSO LOOK CAREFULLY AT YOUR RECEIPT***** They include tax AND 20% gratuity automatically on their handwritten receipt and not label what it is for. (Doesn't matter if you pay cash or card.) You'll end up tipping extra without realizing they include it in the bill. They used to not do this, maybe customers have tipped them poorly in the past? But for a table of 2 people, doesnt seem right for them to add it on like that. It wasn't even decent quality service. I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 star for old time sake as this USED TO be the spot my friends, coworkers and i would go to regularly.

Totally avoid this place. They already included the tip in the receipt written in their language without letting us know. Although I gave them a tip that was 20% top up from the bill (which was already included involuntary tip), the old lady waitress aggressively asked me for more tip. As a result, I have to give them more tip in a cash. Terrible!
