Opinions de Rudy's Country Store & Bar-B-Q Amarillo
We got there close to closing time on a Friday night and there was hardly anyone there. So there was plenty of seating. The meat was hot and tender and it was so good. I loved how they had it set up with picnic tables. They had a buffet style bar that had all the tiny things you need at a BBQ. Utensils, condiments, napkins, doggie bags, to go bags. There is a badass sink for you to wash your dirty hands and face. There is a gift shop and country store. I think I saw a shuffleboard. This was a return trip for my friend and if I ever get back this way I will definitely bring my friends. It's like being at a picnic with friends, only indoors.
It was not crowded just before lunch. The food is magnificent as always. This is like having your grandfather's BBQ... You know where he has time to specialize and really make something great. You feel at home and you enjoy coming because you know you'll get great food and great service.
We did a large order in the drive thru at 5:30pm. There was no line. We got 1/2 rack ribs, 1/2 lb ea of pork loin, moist beef, and turkey. It was all great. The service was fast & polite. We'll definitely go back.
Ordered a smoked turkey breast for Thanksgiving! We were Not disappointed!!
We love the spacious dining rooms and windows. The food is wonderful and people are always friendly. The smoked baked potato is really good with lean brisket.
I place an order about once a week and it’s always good. Today I placed an order that included a quart of potato salad and I got Cole slaw instead. ( which I love as well). I went back to get the potato salad and was more than willing to pay for it, had no Problem with paying for it. I told the gentleman what happened . A supervisor happened to be standing there and heard what happend.,she gave the potato salad after I told her I would pay for it . I didn’t get her name but I wish I did. I really appreciate the service. Thank you so much . I will be back even more now ..
I love the moist brisket sandwich, the best in town! All the employees are friendly. I recommend to anyone looking to score some bbq.
After some intensely exhaustive sleuthing, I have FINALLY figured out EXACTLY the Rudy's BBQ me and my dad visited where my life was forever changed! I BEYOND love Rudy's! It was in 2009 when my dad and I moved from Las Vegas to South Carolina. We were on the road and stopped at what we thought was just a gas station to fill up the moving truck and noticed a small, unassuming sign on the pump that said "Free BBQ sandwich with the purchase of every 10 gallons of gas." We were both like how good can these sandwiches be if they're giving them away? *sigh* Oh how silly us Rudy's BBQ virgins were... So we went in and as we passed through the 2nd set of doors a great meat smelling mecca greeted us in what looked like a coolly decorated aircraft hangar. The smell was beyond delightful and I swear I could hear angels singing! We went to the counter, showed them our receipt and got 6 brisket sandwiches. I will NEVER, EVER, NEVER forget what that first sandwich tasted like, the explosion of pure brisket, meaty goodness I drowned in their spicy BBQ sauce! We were totally blown away! We at a few of the sandwiches, left totally revived and perked up, basking in the glory of fully satisfied stomachs cradling the remaining sandwiches like they were bars of pure gold and hit the road to continue our trek to South Carolina. As we drove, we munched on the remaining sandwiches, which we forgot to add sauce to and they were still incredibly delicious! I don't think in all my travels I ever munched on better food in a car, in my entire life than munching on a Rudy's BBQ brisket sandwich! As the years passed and I later moved to Texas, Rudy's is still and will always be my favorite BBQ place by far, as well as their BBQ brisket will always be my favorite sandwich, drowned in tons of that spicy BBQ sauce! I always wanted to figure out exactly which Rudy's I had that first amazing experience at. I thought once or twice I managed to figure it out but didn't know for sure until I looked through my photos today thru Google Photos and randomly found our roadtrip pictures. It was just a few minutes ago that I found a pic where I spotted the street number letters on the roof. 3751. Which makes the location that changed my life all the way back in 2009 to be Rudy's BBQ in Amarillo, TX! 3751 W Interstate 40. A many years long mystery finally solved! Why hello there you beautiful thing! One day I will visit you again to thank you for such a wonderful introduction to Texas BBQ! Huzzah!
I absolutely love their meat. It is so good. My favorite is the loaded baked potato with extra brisket on it. And I just love it, and it's not a bad price.Either.💖💖
Top notch authentic Texas BBQ. We stop here every time we come through Texas and it never disappoints. It's a must stop for us
Good experience. Good bbq! Fast/quick! If you enjoy quick bbq i recommend
Went to Rudy’s today for grand daughter ‘s birthday So Awesome!!!! Could not see the signage from access road trees 🌲 really need to be trimmed and some marketing would really bring in a bigger crowd! You have a wonderful product a wonderful customer service and a great dining area you just have the total package . Great job 👏 thank you 🙏 !!!! See you soon.
A Texas sized treat. When we lived in Texas we consistently visited Rudy's at least once a month. Now when we travel through Texas we try to stop here as much as we can! Great place!
Just had a quick lunch, omg so glad I stopped by food was outstanding this location is better than Spring, Webster or Tomball wish we had this staff in Houston. Better yet corporate can you all send staff over to Amarillo to train. We need Rudy's ribs that taste this good in Houston. My next best place is College Station. Amarillo keep up the Great tasting food......
Food was fresh and delicious! The staff was kind and helpful and the condiments area was clean and well kept despite how many guests were there. I personally did not really like the pulled pork, it had a little too much mustardy taste, but my husband enjoyed it. Definitely recommend this location!
First time to a Rudy's. This is delicious! Got a whole pound of brisket (Because who in there right mind could only eat half a pound of food this good?) and a container of potato salad and let me tell you that if eating food at Rudy's was the olympics I would Usain Bolt eating as much of this food as possible faster than any other man on the planet.
Ok so this is pretty delicious bbg. I was kind of shocked. They're hospitality was fantastic since I'd never been there before and had no idea what to do. I love the atmosphere. It just feels so friendly and laid back we got the lean brisket but the kiddies got the turkey sandwich and they were so tasty.
Stopped in on our way home from a girls weekend and had the chopped brisket sandwich which had so much delicious meat on it I had to take some off to bring home for a second sandwich later. The brisket was the best I’ve ever had so far and I have had my fair share of brisket being born here in Texas! Will be back again!
Have been to Rudys before for lunch. Great BBQ. We went for breakfast and there was only one other person in there. Don't know why there weren't more people in there. The breakfast tacos were really good. They were also very affordable. They have a fixins bar and plenty of different sauces to choose from (mostly of the hot sauce variety). Great dining area adds to the atmosphere. Looking for good BBQ or great breakfast tacos. Rudys is a great choice.
This restaurant is a great place for BBQ. The store is different from the ones in Austin and San Antonio in that it has some sandwiches to offer and some more sides like three bean salad, green chili stew and corn on the cob. The staff is friendly and the restaurant was nice and clean. This store should be high on your list when you're looking for a great BBQ meal.
Passing through Amarillo, tied up my horse and swaggered into this place. Obviously I am not a cowboy nor claim to be however, Rudy's has cowybow sized meals at low costs that will knock your socks off!! No kidding, the pictured baked potato was the size of an intramural football loaded with about 12#'s of delicious brisket, chicken, and fixings. Go there, order anything, love every bite. Side note-the ppl who work there are some of the coolest I have ever come across in a restaurant, cheers to you.
The food I get togo but let me tell you it never makes it home I eat all of it before it is so so good I just can't stop so thanks Rudy's for the good ribs!!! I tell everyone about this place!!!!
Damn good food! I love the setting and how it is a pay for what you want place. Makes so much sense and gives you the ability to try more options that entice you. The brisket, pulled pork, Turkey, spicy chop, sausages, loaded baked potato with meat, and sauces are all really good. And im sure that everything else is also. This is real Texas bbq. Great pricing too!
I was super extremely impressed with Rudy's. There was no wait in line, I saw a supervisor checking food temperatures, the food was hot and delicious. Even after I sat down, a member of the staff came by my table and asked if I was okay and if I was enjoying my food. This is how customer service is done! I highly recommend Rudy's.
Rudy’s BBQ never disappoints, but this location stands out thanks to Oscar, the manager. He runs a great crew and makes sure everything is done right. The brisket was juicy, the new jalapeno cheddar sausage had great flavor, and the sides were on point. Let's not forget the banana pudding! Fast service, friendly staff, and that classic Rudy’s consistency you can count on. Oscar really makes the experience top-notch. Highly recommend stopping here if you’re in the area.
5 Stars – Oscar is the best! We were at Rudy’s for the Homework and Hockey event with the Amarillo Wranglers, and Oscar made the experience fantastic. Even though it was his day off, he was there helping out and making sure everything ran smoothly for us. It was my first time visiting, and his help made the whole experience stress-free and welcoming. It’s awesome to see staff so dedicated to the community and their job. Great food, great atmosphere, and even better service from Oscar!
Let me say, Today I ate the best moist brisket sandwich ever!! I was greeted by lady named Eliana (who was very receptive, attentive) and requested a moist brisket sandwich with mostly bark and fat and that is exactly what I got. The bark on that brisket was outstanding!! A man named Rick sliced and prepared the sandwich while I was watching him. He made that sandwich perfectly! I saw someone toast the bun and it was toasted perfect. The meal was so good I ordered it again and that second sandwich was outstanding. I am stuffed now but wanted to say to Eleana and Rick… Thank you very much for the meal!! This really made my day, the food tasted great and I will most definitely be back!!! Have a great day.
Yes! 2nd time is just as good as the first! I had Rudy's for the first time in Houston and I've been craving it ever since. Glad to have this location in Amarillo as I passed through Texas along route 66. Please open locations in the eastern states (like upstate New York, Pennsylvania, or Michigan). Even better, just expand into Canada. I'm from Toronto, btw 😉
Got some brisket and the moist brisket. Sides, drinks, and dessert. Best iced tea I have had at a restaurant here. Brisket was melt in your mouth good. Three bean salad took me back to ny childhood. I was not impressed with the corn on the cob and the chocolate pudding was overly sweet. Spicy carrots were to die for!
The food, service, and staff are all incredible. They jumped in to support my school with enthusiasm. Their food, in true Rudy’s fashion, was delicious and made everyone - student, staff, and faculty - happy and full. It is places like this that make me grateful to live in our Amarillo community.
This is literally my current favorite restaurant in all of Amarillo. I wish they had one in Bossier City, Louisiana near where I live. I work for a local trucking company called Jax Transport every time I get to stop at the yard, I have lunch here… I love the smoked potatoes can’t get enough of them.
Breakfast taco bar anyone? ... Y'all! Let me tell you how amazing Rudy's was in helping host a "day after the wedding" brunch for our family! The BBQ breakfast taco bar was spectacular. Every single employee was amazing, courteous, helpful and went above and beyond! The set-up was perfect! We had different kinds of shredded brisket, various seasoned sausages, refried beans, eggs, bacon, toppings, sauces, coffee and drinks. 10/10 and a special shout out to Rudy's Amarillo GM Oscar Cavazos patiently worked with us throughout the whole process!
Friendly staff, not pushy, patient did not rush me to get order, gave me samplers to help decide what I want. Manager came around to each table making sure everything was good. Tables and BBQ bottles kept clean. I stayed at Comfort Suites and the agent there told me she eats at Rudy's all the time, best TX BBQ I ever had. I would go back when I get back in town. Thank you for the great experience Rudy.
So over the top in every way and I love it. The place just screams Texas. Great BBQ. Got the brisket which was grilled to perfection. Homemade BBQ sauce is pretty solid and the cream corn was also delicious. Good price for the quality and amount of food you get. Happy I got to try this chain out and would definitely swing by again next time I’m in the state!
The decor is extremely Texan, the food is extremely Texan, and the patronage is extremely Texan. The brisket sandwich was fine and filling, but not outstanding. I am not a connoisseur of corns on cobs but what I can say is that I devoured this one like an absolute animal. Clean bathrooms. Good service. The food was four stars but everything else was five stars.
We were passing through & decided to check this place out. What an outstanding barbecue restaurant! The food was sooo good! My husband loved the corn on the cob...it was huge & sweet! We even bought some smoked turkey to munch on down the road, it was so tasty! Zane was totally awesome & patient with us when we ordered. Wesley was really friendly & SO polite! This was a great experience with top notch employees...we WILL be back whenever we travel through again!
My husband and I were passing through Amarillo on our way home to IL and after looking for bbq places and reading all the reviews, we thought to give Rudy's a try because it had the best reviews. HONESTLY, the reviews for this place don't lie! The staff was nice and food was Amazing. We just got the meat to go and ate it inside the truck, we got Brisket, Moist Brisket, Baby Back Ribs and Jalapeño Sausage. All was pretty good, but my favorite was the Brisket because it tasted delicious and kind of tasted and looked like burnt ends. If we ever pass through Amarillo again we will definitely come back here!

Great food as always. Picnic table out front is genius. Love the cobbler and ice cream but the 2 transactions (1 for ice cream and 1 for cobbler) is just un-Texas. Gotta fix that goofy process …

Stopped here on a roadtrip after going to another very disappointing bbq joint. We had the brisket, pork ribs and sausage. I really liked the ribs. Great service and Texas experience
Great moist brisket with large servings. We sat on the outdoor patio. Quick service and clean surroundings.

Recommended Tyler’s was not open so Rudy’s got my business. Glad Tyler’s was closed. The only problem I encountered was not getting enough ribs!
Very good bbq. Convenient to find just off the interstate. The whole family enjoyed all the different entries.

I always get the breakfast tacos with brisket and potato. That is my go to breakfast meal😁
Their smoked turkey is the best in town and the green chili stew is good. Baked potato a little underdone every time I've had it.
Good brisket, rib, pull pork and sausage. Love their smoke favor so much. Definitely will be back
First time there people were very friendly they were cutting up a hot fresh brisket and asked us if would like to try it and ssssoooooo good. As well we ordered Jalapeno sausage and 2 full racks of ribs and fresh made cream corn. All of it was amazing with big portions but the ribs to me were ok but im pretty picky with ribs. Great atmosphere suggest to hit it up if in the area.
Stopped in twice, the first time everything was excellent. Second time I felt the brisket was over cooked and dry Overall good atmosphere and food
We always eat here when traveling through Amarillo. The food was excellent as always but we were turned off by the lack of personality of the workers. We don’t expect much, just a thank you and to look at us as they take your order.
They let me sample the meats before ordering and I chose the brisket. It has a good smoked flavor, but a few of the thinner sliced pieces needed some sauce to help with dryness. The beans were average and the banana pudding was good. I liked the trays that they give you to get your food to the table. Staff was helpful and friendly.

The food was good. It was my first time in there which I let every member of the staff that I dealt with know that. They had in my opinion and unusual way of ordering getting your food. They had sides and coolers before you got to the register that you were supposed to get yourself. And the atmosphere was really lacking I get that it's a barbecue joint and it was like picnic tables but the food was given to me on paper in the only way that I can describe them is like 2 L bottle drink carriers that the beverage dispensers use and they were filthy every nook and cranny had grease and dirt and grime in essentially what they were using for the trays to carry the food to the tables I will not be returning here because of the cleanliness levels
Always loved this place, but I was laughed at in a really condescending way this morning because I asked for an itemized receipt for work. Receipt said "18 Grab and Go Items". That won't fly on an expense report. Tons of businesses use Rudy's for picking up breakfast for employees and customers. Just a suggestion for customer service, if you get an order over a certain amount and see Corporate Card on the form of payment maybe offer up an itemized receipt.
The food tasted great, I have been there twice. Once for dine in and once for take out. First time was great, I got the loaded baked potato with brisket and there was so much brisket on it. Second time was take out and they sprinkled a few little squares of brisket, probably because they knew by time you get home you’re not driving all the way back to complain. Oh well, time to find another spot with loaded baked potatoes.
DON'T water down the creamed corn into creamy, corny soup!!! Pedestrian brisket, chicken, and hold on to your hat -- you have to ask for bread. Pickled Jalapeños, sliced white onions and nice pickles were the saving grace of this highway stop. Training is needed. How do I know any of this? I was a meat cutter and cashier at a Rudy's in 1995, so...
Yesterday was my second time of going to Rudy's in Amarillo. I was craving a loaded baked potato and thought I would give them a second try. I wasn't that impressed with the first visit. The second visit wasn't much better. The employees are very nice and cheerful and helpful so that's not the problem. There is no service involved since you order and pick up at a counter and take it to your table and do your own clean up. The tables and condiment containers are on the sticky side which always worries me as germ attractors. I had pork loin on my first visit and was really looking forward to it because that's not something you see on menus that often. It was too dry and chewy to suit me. I tasted the brisket this time and it was also not as tender and moist as what I've had it other BBQ places in town. I got the pulled pork on my baked potato and it was plenty moist but still kind of chewy and the flavor was not the best I've had. The potato wasn't hot, maybe lukewarm. Their prices look good at first glance but when you realize you have to order each item separately you can end up with a $15 meal before you know it, which is what happened to me the first time I went. Today I just got the baked potato which I thought would be $6.99 based on info I found on the internet. But they must have raised their prices since that was published because the baked potato was about $7.50 and ended up over $8 with tax. I tried both of their BBQ sauces and didn't care for either one. I'm no expert on BBQ sauce, I just know what I like. One was too spicy and the other was too sweet and Bland. I got side dishes the last time and they were just okay. If I were you, I would just skip the chain restaurants and go for the little local Indy places that seem to have much better quality barbecue and sides. Tyler's seems to be the best but I have found others that were very good also. There are four Soul Food places in town and they are all good.
turkey and beans were phenomenal, pork ribs were ehhh and the brisket well me and my coworker played tug a war with a slice.
The server could not get my name correct until I corrected her 3 times. She entered my order correctly, but that still didn't stop the people preparing my meal from filling it incorrectly. That's OK though. Rosa's is right across the highway, I'll be eating there next time.
Restaurant is clean and the staff was very friendly, but that was the driest chopped brisket sandwich I’ve ever tried to eat. Chopped brisket is what I always ordered cause it’s usually the most moist not here.. There’s much better in Amarillo.
I was recommended to try this place on our return trip from Santa Fe New Mexico. The service was wonderful, the food was blahhhhh! Nothing outstanding, nothing rocking the boat. Pulled pork sandwich, 4 rib pieces, brisket sandwich, 🌽 and a baked potato 🥔....$56.00 No thanks. I've had better!

Only went here because Tyler's was closed. The BBQ is decent, but Tyler's BBQ is just so much better and they're about the same price.

I made an online order, 8 ounce moist brisket, 1 jalapeno sausage link, medium size green chili stew and medium size cream corn. I initially ordered 2 half chickens which was all I really wanted from there but when I actually placed and paid for the order I was told the 2 half chickens weren't available, oh well my parents can have the order and I'll go elsewhere. 45 dollars for the smallest sausage link ever, the brisket had a horrible smell and my mother said it tasted exactly how it smelled. Stew was okay but the corn was so hard and waxy!! I've never had corn so over cooked, felt like it was in a crock pot on high for 48 hours. I hadn't had "BBQ" in 10 years and Rudy's made the decision easy for me to never try it again. Not to mention I waited in the drive thru 15 minutes to be told I had to pull around up front and go inside for it, even though it was bagged and ready to go.
We normally have a good experience here. Got charged for several items we didn’t get. Just be careful with what they enter into the computer while they’re getting your order ready. I didn’t notice it until we were already at the table.
Bit of a letdown. We were passing through the top half of Texas for a road trip and thought we'd try Texan bbq because people love it out here. We just found a place on the way and I was kind of excited to try it. We ordered their ribs, sausage, pulled pork, beans, brisket, coleslaw, and their creamed corn. They weren't the bbq that was slathered in sauce, which was what I pictured, but I don't know if that is a Texas thing or not. The ribs hardly had any meat and it was a little tough. The sausage was nothing special, and the brisket was soft, but I didn't like their sauce all that much. Because their meat was nothing special with a combo of having a mediocre sauce, the first experience of Texas BBQ was disappointing. The only thing that saved them was their sides. I got the creamed corn and actually enjoyed it. Their corn didn't taste the freshest, but I liked the flavoring IG: jkfoodaddie
Got pulled pork sandwich kinda skimpy on the meat. The pork had no taste and was dry. Did get everything i asked for.
Ordered through Door Dash. Arrived early which I appreciated, but my order was not correct. Ordered the two meat sandwich, brisket & sausage…. Not a single slice of brisket on the sandwich, only sausage. Otherwise, everything else was spot on correct.
I had the chopped brisket sandwich, cream corn, and sweet tea. In my opinion the tea was the only thing worth the money. The order taker asked if I wanted sauce on or off the sandwich, I asked for on. Even with that the sandwich had no flavor. The meat was boring and flavorless. The cream corn tasted like a can of corn was dumped in a can of evaporated milk and then heated up. The service was slow on the order and there was no one else hardly in the restaurant. The atmosphere is true Texan, but not the BBQ. If in Amarillo go to Tyler’s instead.
Worst Rudy's we have ever been to in our years of travel. Brisket was undercooked and served burnt ribs. Very disappointing!!! This restaurant needs an overhaul in management.
8/31/25 Update- I had given them another chance and things were better until today. Everything I said in my original review was "deja vu all over again". I think it's 2 strikes and you're out. Pretty good food for a chain BBQ and they are open on Sunday. The jalapeno sausage is especially good. Went in today and the "service" was terrible. Taking forever to serve one customer at a time while a bunch of people stood around BSing. Finally walked out and probably won't go back again- too much superior BBQ around Amarillo to put up with this.
So, this morning I decided I would stop by Rudy’s and give them another chance, since they deliberately mess up my order almost every time I go. Well, to my surprise the same thing happened this morning. Hugely disappointing, a waste of time, and money. The only reason I like to try Rudy’s for breakfast is they are one of the only places in town to get a brisket taco for breakfast. However, about the last 5 times that I have tried them over the last year, they make me wait a ridiculous amount of time in the drive through at 7:15 in the morning, after taking my order of 2 brisket, potato, egg, and cheese tacos. Then, when they finally come back to the window to hand me my order I get a smile and have a good day. Don’t deliberately mess up my order, and then be condescending by wishing me a good day. Now, I’m at work and find once again, there is no brisket on my taco, but some nasty looking ham, and NO potatoes. So, don’t waste your time, or money at Rudy’s for breakfast! And for those of you who say I should have checked my order before leaving…I probably would have it hadn’t of taken them 15 minutes of me waiting in the drive through. And, they have one job…! Do it! I took a picture of the nastiness they served, but there is no way to upload it. Well, isn’t that convenient?
Nothing special. Their BBQ wasn't great, old BBQ sause from 1/2 empty bottle that have been out who knows how long, potatoe salad pre-package was blah, treamings trays, and serving ugly trays then your plate is a peace of butcher paper?! No thanks, will never go to any Rudy's again. Cashier person at least had a smile.
They forgot my potato salad. That's it. Was looking forward to potato salad. Sad night. No potato salad.
The worst Rudy’s ever ever been to. Overcooked dry brisket and kids are untrained and inefficient. Mistakes everywhere!
Driest brisket I’ve ever eaten, super nice cashier and cool vibes
Worst experience ever. She's all, "Hi, how you doing? How may I help you?" I'm all, "One of everything." She just looks at me, deer in headlights. Wouldn't take the order. I was serious, wanted one of everything. Then I'm all, "I guess ribs since you don't wanna do that order." Then I asked for what sides you have. She's all, "It's sold separately." I didn't ask how much, wanted sides. First time here and definitely last time. I thought you wanted to sell product not attitude.
Food was very dry, the cashiers didnt know what they were doing, they kept handing eachother things back and forth with the kitchen staff, touching everything after cashing us out, never saw them wash their hands took them like 10-15 mins trying to figure out what they were giving us. We order Baby Back ribs but im sure they gave us regular ribs even after asking the cashier if these were the right kind, and she said yes. We paid $50 for only a deal of ribs, a sandwich n 2 sides. They give you your food in a coca cola tray that drinks come in which is very inconvenient when your trying to eat at a table with a baby, and your a short person so you cant reach very well. The bread we got was cold and stale. Won't be coming back...
Absolute trash. Ribs mediocre. I order a pound of brisket moist. 95% of it was fat and inedible. My dog likes it so i bought him an expensive snack. Beans were good. Sausage was good but Allsups is better. Stay away unless you wanna give away your money
