We really enjoyed ourselves this night. Food was so good & hot. The staff was so nice to my family & I. Our waitor name was Gabriel he went out his way for us. He even decorated the birthday cake for us & lit the candle. He was like the host of the party. Will come back again.

The decor is warm and inviting. The staff were excellent and the food was amazing. It was so good, we had to go back for dinner again 2 nights later! Easy to walk to. The duck and porkchops were excellent!

Outdoor dining with live music is the best after being couped in indoors for hours during work. The portions are definitely on the smaller side by Midwestern standards, maybe average by New York standards.

If you are celebrating a special occasion, this old townie favorite is the best meal and lovely service. Gordie (manager) makes everyone feel welcome and runs a tight ship. Cocktails are creatively crafted. One of our favs!

Very attentive staff and a menu food that will not disappoint. Best fine dining experience in Ann Arbor. The exterior and interior were recently renovated and the place looks great.

First time visiting. Made reservations, and we arrived a little early and our table was ready! Sat down , and Gabriel was our server. He was awesome with his recommendations, very attentive, but not hovering. He knew every nuance for every dish. And I mean everything. We started out with cocktails, then appetizers, which we took his recommendation for the seafood studel and the calamari, which were exactly how he had described. Calamari was ever so lightly breaded and salted to where it really accented the calamari without overloading it with breading. Next was our entrees. I go the blackened porkchop, my wife got the burger, my mom got the swordfish, and my stepdad got the sea bass. Everyone LOVED their entrees. For dessert, we chose the orange cake and the carrot cake. Gabriel even noticed in our conversation that there was a birthday, so when they brought out the orange cake it had a candle in it! In all The West End Grill is one high end, 1st class restaurant, that is on our favorites list, and must visit list for Ann Arbor

Great meal here and excellent service throughout. The price point is on the expensive side, but the quality is excellent and the portions are spot on. The veal dumplings starter and duck main were excellent. Will return.

Took hubby here for his birthday and the food was way up there. The flavors... you won't get anywhere else. The chef(s) really pay attention to detail and make sure the food is perfect and to your liking. Great place and highly recommend. We had the scallops and asparagus with coconut risotto, rack of lamb, roasted Brussels, calamari, and dessert. Everything was perfect. Thankyou for the wonderful experience.

Great food and staff. Very attentive and food was perfectly cooked and plated. Definitely yes!

I went in with very low expectations, given the very high prices, the ridiculously terse chalkboard menu, and not especially appealing photos on social media. I went out extremely impressed. The Chilean Sea Bass was Insanely tender and juicy, almost like pork belly with more flavor and less over-the-top saltiness. Very nice Parmesean-crusted Halibut. Good Oreo cheesecake for dessert. The prices might be a touch high, but this is still easily one of the best restaurants in a great food town.

Our server Mitch was absolutely amazing and so knowledgeable about everything on the menu and gave great recommendations! We had such a great time I got 2 of their old fashions on the menu and my boyfriend got 2 draft beers! With dinner with did Their port wine which tasted amazing and was very good to pair with the steaks we got. I did the American wagyu and my boyfriend did their Delmonico steak special! Overall such a nice night and great experience!

I have been to West End a handful of times and have always had great service and food. Last night I had the veal dumplings and it was the most delicious meal I have ever had. It was amazingly good. I also recommend an espresso martini while you are there.

Very cozy atmosphere, with great food. The servers are AWESOME. If you're looking for a nice, laid back, happy environment to share memories with a friend or special person, West End Grill is the place. Keep up the good work.

What a great place! Amazing service, beautiful atmosphere. Loved the lamps inside. Great place for a group or couple’s dinner. The drinks and food were well prepared. Not to mention, if you want unlimited soft pillowy rolls with garlic herb butter, look no further.

Had a wonderful and romantic dinner at the Grill last night. Great wines by the glass. Every part of the meal, from appetizer to dessert, was delicious. I think this is Ann Arbor's best fine dining restaurant

I was extremely satisfied with my experience here. The service is top-notch, the ambiance is fancy but not too over the top, and most importantly the food is great. I ordered the Sea Bass and it was one of the best tasting fish I’ve ever had. I was unsure about going here after some of the poor reviews I read before hand but this place really exceeded my expectations. It is pricey, but I think overall it’s justified. It makes for a great visit for special occasions.

I absolutely love West End Grill! I highly recommend this location for any anniversary or special celebration, or just treat yourself to a lovely night out. The food and service are exceptional. Tonight I had the seafood strudel for an appetizer, the filet bernaise for a main, and the Oreo cheesecake for dessert. All were phenomenal. The steak was so perfectly cooked and just melts in your mouth. I can’t wait to come back.

July 2022 - My wife and I had our anniversary dinner here, and while yes, the menu was a little pricey, the food, ambiance, and service were all fantastic. The experience was well worth it. This was our first time dining at The West End Grill, but it will definitely not be our last!

Best meal in Ann Arbor! We've lived here for almost two years and finally made it to the West End Grill and we're not disappointed. The services was exceptional and each dish we had was fantastic. We started with a seasonal special of Rangoon and tried the roasted pork belly and scallops with creme brulee for dessert. Highly recommend!

Fabulous restaurant - my favorite in Ann Arbor for special occasions or quiet drinks at the bar. The service, the cocktails, the food, the deserts - are all exceptional. Over the years, I've had almost everything on the menu and never been disappointed. I especially love the appetizers - don't miss the seafood strudel, (seasonal) roasted caprese, and mushroom...something..... The sticky toffee pudding for desert is also to die for!

Our team met at The West End Grill for a business dinner, and the experience was exceptional! The General Manager, Gordy, and his service team delivered to every high level expectation of food, service and atmosphere! We took a business client there to help impress, and it certainly did so. Congrats Gordy and team for creating such a wonderful experience!

We got takeout for our anniversary. The bartender doing takeout did a great job. Not everything was perfect with the food (some missing components), but we enjoyed almost everything we ordered. Given the amazing service and the promise shown in the takeout I can't wait for the opportunity to eat at the restaurant in the future.

Order take out for my wife's birthday. The food was fabulous. As they say compliments to the chef. The staff was cordial and inviting as I waited for my food to be prepared. The price was right. We plan on coming in for the full experience next time.

We just had a most memorable and scrumptious dinner at Ann Arbor’s West End Grill. Mitch’s kind, attentive, and knowledgeable service couldn’t have been more appreciated, and will be long remembered. His spot on wine recommendations and lovely food pairings were truly perfect. Of note were the fig and brie cheese tartlets, the pear and Gorgonzola salad, before our savory mains: sea bass for my husband, and my excellent choice of salmon. We ferried an incredible piece of cake (an old recipe from a former tenant) back to our hotel, waited five minutes, and devoured it. Kudos to the chef, and kitchen staff, and all who made this dinner an already cherished memory. Thank you!!

An excellent dining experience overall. Food and drinks were delicious. Most importantly the servers were very knowledgeable and had amazing recommendations. Branched out of my comfort zone at the suggestion of Mitch was the best choice of the night. Highly recommend.

The service was awesome, they constantly checked on me to make sure I had everything that I needed. The atmosphere was great, they had music playing in the background, which was loud enough to hear if you focus on it, but not too loud that you can't have a conversation. The food was absolutely incredible. The crab cakes were moist and fell apart in my mouth and was cooked to perfection. I also got the sea bass and I am pretty sure it was more moist cooked on my plate than it was when it was swimming in the water. I absolutely recommend

My experience at the West End Grill was fantastic. The food and staff were excellent. This was my first time coming back after the new renovations and I was very impressed with the new decorations. The atmosphere was great and I especially loved the new wallpaper which was very unique. This will definitely be my go to restaurant and the place I recommend anyone visiting Ann Arbor!

Have been multiple times in the past year and thoroughly enjoyed every experience. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and quick. Seafood dishes are always flavorful and cooked perfectly. After the remodel, the atmosphere is modern but with the buildings character left intact. Highly recommend!

I’ve been to West End Grill several times and it’s always been a great experience. The atmosphere is really nice, the food is consistently excellent, and the service is always friendly and attentive. It’s definitely one of my favorite spots in Ann Arbor and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great dinner.

My husband and I recently found ourselves in downtown Ann Arbor for date night, and we made our way to The West End Grill. We didn't have a reservation on a Saturday night, but there was plenty room at the beautiful bar. Gabriel was our bartender, and he really made our night. His friendliness, knowledge and skill, and blatant enjoyment of his job made us want to keep coming back. Yes, the cocktails and food were outstanding, but Gabriel really elevated our experience.

Perfect place for a long intimate dinner. Small, cozy, and romantic. Food is overall flavorful but on the pricey side for what it is in my opinion. Drinks are delicious. Little on the pricey side too but at least they are good! Good enough for me to order two!

We have tried virtually all of the Ann Arbor restaurants numerous times, however this one we have missed, for one reason or another. Our experience was very good, but I would not put it at the top in Ann Arbor. The food was completely excellent, however the menu is rather plain and traditional, nothing too contemporary, which would be a nice addition. We had 4 people total at our table, and favorites were the tuna appetizer, and sea bass entree. Only complaint was from the Halibut entree, which we all agreed was rather dry. I personally ordered a specialty cocktail, the same I order everywhere, and of course there are variations, but here it was virtually undrinkable. It did not really resemble what it was supposed to be. Service was excellent, atmosphere was just okay. I was glad we tried it, but would definitely select Pacific Rim or Logan over West End Grill.

D
Deb Mark

It was good. But the scallops were a bit fishy, so if you do not like that flavor, then get delmonico steak or short ribs. Still very good experience.

T
Tera Pepper

Loved getting the table in the front window! I’m not a seafood eater but if you like seafood, the menu is choc full of a variety from sea bass to scallops. The tomato basil soup was very good. The lobster tail is 8 ounces and left little to be desired but the swordfish was tasty. The prices are very steep so be prepared to pay $70 for the Delmonico Steak. The big negative is this woman who I believe works there (see pic below) kept walking out and smoking cigarettes in front of the window. Just not a good look for what you pay for inside. Kevin is a good waiter and he deserves 5 stars. Gordy, the general manager was very nice and is very friendly with the patrons. Not sure we will be back.

My family and I went to The West End Grill to celebrate a milestone birthday. Other than the guy at the door, no other mention was made of my birthday, which was disappointing. My spouse is reticent to say anything, I guess. Every other time we've eaten here (often for anniversaries), the food, service, everything has been outstanding. This time, several of the dishes were disappointing. My salmon was undercooked and tasted odd, chicken was dry, servings were very sparse like a couple tablespoons of rice and 1 skinny cooked carrot). Our server is generally top notch. I think he was upset we weren't "drinking." We had someone with us who we were supporting in his early months of sobriety. The wine glasses were taken away in a huff, it seemed. No candle in the dessert. I don't expect we'll be hurrying back. Wonder if it's under new management? Please read the notes on the reservation and be sure to pass them on to the server. The saving grace was the AMAZING orange walnut cake, which is out of this world.

The quality of the food is very good. The service is great. I love the old character of the building. I've been here about four times. I'm giving three stars only for the steep prices for the amount of food you actually receive on the plate. The veggie side dish that comes with several entrees is 2 baby carrots and 1-2 green vegetables on top. Look, I know rents are high in downtown Ann Arbor, but people don't want to feel like they're being robbed when their expensive entree arrives.

C
Clara Blackard

Went there for Father’s Day Dinner. The salad greens were not fresh. My husbands was good but a very small piece considering the price. Two half’s of a carrot, very small amount. I ordered the pasta with scallops. It was a bow tie pasta which was freshly cooked, three medium size scallops that were not seasoned just thrown in there. I ate a small amount and the rest took home but threw down the disposal. Probably will not return! We were looking forward to eating at this restaurant.🥲

B
Braxton Jackson

Service was good. The appetizer and begniets were very good, but both my entree and my wife's entree were disappointing. My halibut was begging for some sauce or a dry rub... anything to add some flavor. Likewise, my wife's burger was very lackluster. Too be totally honest, a quarter pounder from McDonald's has twice the flavor. We just expected better for the prices.

D

The food was okay, but for the price that I’m paying, it was absolutely not worth it. The free bread balanced it out a little. With two appetizers and two mains, our total came up to $120. I came in excited to try the food, only to find myself critiquing it the entire time. However, the service was great. Appetizers Blue cheese tarts (5/5): These were the star of the show. The cheese topping was uniquely savory and the pastry was perfectly fluffy. Nothing I would add here Pork belly (2/5): A little overcooked for my tastes, but maybe they were going for a bit more chew. The flavors were subtle, and nothing I felt like I couldn’t make at home. Entrees The dishes came with a complimentary salad or creamy soup around 10 minutes before the entrees arrived. Lobster farfalle (4/5): The first bites was amazing. I felt my eyebrows quivering from the flavor explosion. However, a whole plate of this is too much. It was delicious for sure, but I felt like it was lacking balance. My fiancé couldn’t eat more than a couple of bites since it was too creamy. I feel like it would have paired well with the bitter and acidic flavors from the complimentary salad, so they should have come out together? I also think this would work better as an appetizer. Sea scallops (1/5): Burnt is the main thought I left with for a $46 dish. The large scallops were cooked perfectly, risotto was subtly seasoned, but the grilled asparagus was way too burnt. At first, I thought the charcoal flavor was supposed to be a part of the dish, but then I bit into a large charred piece and it no longer seemed intentional. I don’t remember tasting any “morel cream sauce” either. Since all the other flavors were subtle to bring out the natural flavor of the scallops, I ended up having a lingering taste of char the remainder of the meal.

First the good stuff: really nice staff, pretty good drinks. My husband said that the key lime pie was good. French onion soup was great. Medium ambience. I don't normally leave reviews but the price was insanely high for how bad the food was. We went out to dinner with some friends and everyone disliked their meal. Two of us had the scallop pasta dish which was $39 and it was SO salty, and had probably two scallops in it. Cocktails are around $20 each, they were decent but definitely not worth $20. My husband had the fish which he said was not good, and came with two baby carrots next to it. There was only one vegetarian option on the menu. We spent a total of $460 between the 4 of us and left really disappointed. Hate to leave a negative review but if you're going to charge that much I would expect better quality.

Went with 3 friends, I was not real hungry so I went for the $29.00 hamburger and fries!! Was totally disappointed. I ordered medium towards medium rare. It came out an a regular hamburger bun, had a few strands of red onion on it and some sort of "special sauce". It was a thin hamburger patty that was more towards well done and DRY. I decided not to complain because like I said I was not very hungry. Erin our waitress was awesome, the place itself was nice. Food way overpriced and mine was terrible.$29.00 for a hamburger and fries good grief. BTW it does not say in the menu it is a Waygu burger. We will chalk it up to an off night. Thanks WEST END BURGER 29 Topped with house made bacon pimento cheese, red onion, and served with our parmesan-truffle fries

Really wanted to like this cozy older neighborhood spot but we did not. The food was insanely overpriced. Yes I know everything is expensive right now- but this was beyond. My scallop dish was basically only pasta, too much sauce and $50! The service was nice as was the wine but we were quite disappointed and will not be back- too many other good and great spots in the area!

R
Rebecca Burns

The place is incredibly underwhelming. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. Based on recommendations, we had high expectations. Not to mention their menu online looked great! Service: Mediocre to poor. While our server was friendly & attentive, she was not informed on the cocktail offerings. We asked for a recommendation on a drink that wasn't sweet and she quickly offered up the I-75 and told us she'd tell the bartender to go "light" on sweetness. It tasted like juice! And not in a good way. We sent it back but still go charged anyway. And then she took away my replacement cocktail before I was finished with it! :( Food: Per the recommendation of the server, the halibut should've been the bee's knees. However, it came out warm but raw. While some fish is still delicious undercooked, the halibut is not one of them. It was mushy & chewy. We sent it back and they re-fired it, but by then my bf had finished his meal so I was left playing catch up. My boyfriend ordered the scallops; while the flavor was good they missed the very first step in the preparation process. ALL THREE of his scallops had the side muscle still attached, which is chewy and not appetizing at all. This is a very simple step to do and shows a laziness on the part of the kitchen to not prep the scallops at all before cooking. Given the issues we had with both the cocktail and entrees, you might expect a manager to stop by the table. We weren't expecting a discount, but having a manager show face and acknowledge the less-than-stellar service goes a long way. Either there wasn't a manager on duty or management simply doesn't care about customer service. Overall, two stars. They have potential given their unique menu but the kitchen and staff fail on every level to execute. I recommend Black Pearl instead. Better food, better service, competitive prices, and a bartender that knows what they're doing.

Sean Bre

It was a terrible experience and even worst food! The whole experience took so long we had to take our food togo. We sat down at 6:38pm didn’t place our entree order until 7:44pm. Took the food home in cheap Togo boxes. For an almost $200 evening that included the tip, this place is not worth wasting your money. Here a picture of my wife’s $36 entree (Tofu stir fry) we had to get to go because the whole experience was so slow. The food was the worst we have ever had downtown Ann Arbor. If you go here good luck to you and your wallet. Waste of money.

D
Daniel Milstein

The dining experience at this establishment was highly disappointing. The crab cakes were excessively greasy, seemingly saturated in oil to the point where they felt more like a cholesterol-laden indulgence rather than a carefully prepared dish. The truffle fries further confirmed our concerns, as they carried a distinct taste of old oil—an observation reinforced by their unappetizing color, indicating that the fryer oil was overdue for a change. To make matters worse, we ordered two Wagyu steaks, requesting them to be cooked medium rare. After an inexplicably long wait of 45 minutes, both steaks were served severely overcooked—charred to the point of being nearly inedible. Such a glaring misstep in preparation is unacceptable, particularly given the premium quality and price associated with Wagyu beef. Overall, the meal fell far short of expectations, both in terms of execution and service. Attention to basic kitchen practices and quality control is sorely needed to justify the restaurant’s reputation and pricing.

I don't usually write reviews unless a place is exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. I dined at the West End Grill with a friend of mine on Saturday 9/23/23 I believe. Our waiter had a wrist support wrap on his left hand. He was nonexistent during 90% of the service. It took us 2 hours and 37 minutes to dine there when normally we are out in an hour or less. I said to my friend, how much do you want to bet that the salads are going to come out at the same time as the entree? Fortunately the salads did not come out with the entrees but they did take an hour and a half to come to the table. The place was busy when we got there but after about 40 minutes it completely died out because it was later in the evening. I ordered a burrata ravioli appetizer and the short ribs. My friend ordered calamari and the duck. We come here often or I guess I should say we used to come here often. So we have a certain level of expectation for this place. The burrata ravioli, which I had never had before, was absolutely flavorless. At a bare minimum the dish needed salt. They really could have used some type of a sauce or reduction over the ravioli to give it some type of flavor. My friend and I split one ravioli and decided we really didn't care for the dish. They took the item off of the bill when they saw the dish relatively untouched. My salad was very good except I am pretty sure that they forgot the honey dressing. I could not taste any dressing on the salad but the combination of everything else in the salad was delicious. The duck was so overcooked that my friend couldn't eat it. I said to my friend it can't be that bad. I took one bite and I couldn't swallow it because it was so dry and rubbery. I unfortunately had to spit it out. They wound up taking the duck away and taking it off of the bill. My short ribs would have had a nice flavor but they put so much salt on it that I couldn't eat it. It tasted like they dumped an entire pound of salt on the dish. My friend didn't mind the saltiness so he consumed the dish but did acknowledge that it was overly salty. We were considering dessert but were afraid to order anything because of the more than 2 hours we had already sat there and because of the flavor of our dishes. We walked over to the Pacific Rim where my friend got dessert and I got a decent entree. My friend said he's not interested in ever going back to the West End Grill. I agree for now. They really need to get the bugs worked out so they have decent service and decent food. Everywhere I dine, regardless of the service, I always leave at least a 15% tip. We were so annoyed by this visit. With the horrible service and lackluster food, I think I only left a 5% tip. I also forgot to mention that our waiter only had one other table and that table was done an hour into us dining there. So there really wasn't any excuse for for the salads to take an hour and a half to come to the table. My friend was pretty sure that the duck was ready to go much earlier in the dinner service but it sat so long that they tried to reheat it in the microwave. I will say that it tasted very rubbery like it had come out of a microwave but I can't be too sure. We have had the duck many times before and it is always a tender dish except for this time.

wish i could tell you how the food was, but after waiting 20 minutes without being greeting we walked out. there were two other tables in there, otherwise it was empty. disappointing because it was our anniversary dinner. will not be coming back

Okay, vibes were off immediately. The hostess told us he was in the back washing dishes when we got there. Drinks are 20 dollars for just mediocre at best. Fries were good Key lime pie was 12/10 Risotto was horrible… hard and undercooked with scallops there were rubber. The waiter said that lots of people say it is good, they have to be lying, ricearoni would be better Lobster tail was 4/10 and was the most edible entree. Rubbery and salty, no butter side with the tail. Sides were terrible outside of the carrot. We paid over 200 dollars… No wonder the place was absolutely dead on a Friday night.
