Although some of the reviews indicated a long wait, this was not our experience. We called around 7 p.m. to inquire about the wait time and if they had call-ahead seating, and we were given an 8:00 reservation. There were only 2 of us, and once other people who would be seated at the same table arrived we were all seated. The server was friendly and promptly took our drink orders, and the soups and salads were also prompt. The soup is delicious! If you don't like Ginger, be sure to ask for a different dressing on your salad. Before long our chef arrived, and the real fun began! He was entertaining, pleasant, funny and a little mischievous. I regret not getting his name so I could give him credit here. A group of strangers randomly seated together were soon laughing and dining together as if we knew one another. It was great fun, the food was delicious (and plentiful - you'll have leftovers) and I look forward to dining there again.
We had the best chef there! Most entertaining and the best drummer! Wish I’d gotten his name! The food was excellent and the portions were huge!
The food was great company was great the place was clean everything was so good about it I enjoyed my time there so much
WOW! Our chef Romee was fantastic! Food portions were great, you will not leave hunger. Besides the soup and salad serving the filet melted in your mouth, shrimp, scallops and calamari were also fantastic. Fresh and cooked to perfection. Seasoned perfectly. Went out with friends for our usually closing the end year/Christmas dinner. No looking further for a new place, we'll be going back again and even sooner. Believe there's a special occasion coming up, lol Wish they would still serve their sushi, they had the best. Prices were good for what you got.
Good hibachi dinner. Saganos is always good no matter which one you go to. They don't serve sushi at the Brighton location anymore which was a bummer. They do in Fenton though and it's amazinggg
This place is amazing..the chefs were alot of fun. Very nice atmosphere and the food was stupendous. A Little pricier than expected. But we'll worth it.
Every bite of everything we had was delicious,, all the way down to the ice cream!! The chef is hilarious, fun, and friendly! Celebrated 2 family birthdays there and will continent the new tradition... the chef comes out after dinner with a drum and we sang and laughed some more! Also you get a picture of your group with the chef to take home for your birthday memory.. can't wait to go back for my daughters and sons birthdays❤❤❤
EDIT: Added important experience on September 4th, 2020: Tonight my party of 4 went to Sagano, Brighton for dinner. During the show my close friend suffered a diabetic seizure, inside the restaurant. I wanted to express my appreciation for the way everybody in the restaurant handled the situation. The entire staff kept their composure, along with the customers. Huge shoutout to Sagano for paying for my groups meal as well. The way this business handled the medical emergency tonight was as professional as can be! I would love to get in contact with the owner if possible. My Wife and I ordered take out last night. When my Wife mentioned her shellfish allergy to the receptionist, she was understanding and very accommodating of the situation. When we got there early the ladies at the front immediately went to check on the food. As we were sitting there waiting, I couldn't help but notice how much larger this location is compared to my usual spot at the Fenton location. I also noticed how much positive energy the chefs were giving off, which made me decide to come to this location next time I eat in. This location has some of the friendliest receptionists I've ever met, and we talked the entire time we waited for our food which was nice. I look forward to dining in here in the near future.
Bernard was great, very attentive! (Said if I posted on Google to let the ladies know he's single and charming 😜) The chef was so funny, (I know they're supposed to be) but he topped them all. Very reasonably priced, the only bad thing is there's no more sushi on the menu- at this location only 😟 but other than that, everything was great!
Been here about 5 times in my life, most recently celebrating my mom's birthday. Always a fun experience. Excellent food, reasonable prices, great sake, entertaining chefs. I have only good things to say about Sagano!
First time eating here. Best experience I've ever had!!!! Matt was hands down the best chef/host you could ever imagine! Definately will be going back. Only had one issue. Paid for the birthday special. They give you a picture that they take of you and the chef. They waited till we where about to leave (20 mins after the picture was taken) to tell us the picture was blurry and they would have to re take it. Mind you, this was taken with a digital camera, so she saw the picture was blurry before she left our table. By this time, Matt was already cooking for another table and couldn't be pulled away. So we didn't receive our picture. Other then that, amazing people and atmosphere!!!
Recently we visited a competitors restaurant. (I know, a bad way to start a review but hold on :-) ) In doing so we realized just what an amazing place Saganos-Brighton is indeed, the competitor was not good at all. The food is great: salad dressing is yummy, my protein choice is always superb and the noodles...words can not describe how wonderful they are. In the past, my parties and I have not enjoyed the wait it takes to get a table or to be served, but now I know if you want greatness ; patience is needed. Your chefs seem genuinely happy to serve and if they are not, we would never know. Thank you for providing Livingston County with a "Must Have" restaurant!
Last night was mine and my husbands first date night out since the pandemic. We hit a movie and decided to go to Saganos for dinner. We arrived for the 7pm dinner. I was worried about needing reservations as we did not make any ahead of time. We were kindly greeted by a gentleman whom I later found out was the manager. He politely asked if we had reservations. I told him we did not and he said,no worries and he would ask the hostess if there was an opening for two. We were seated 5 minutes later. After we were seated, the gentleman came by just to say he hopes we enjoy our dinner. Coming from a customer service background, that alone was so impressive. After our waiter took our orders, the manager came back around and let us know that there were terrible storms heading our way and if the tornado sirens were to go off,we would be relocated to different room within the building. Within 10 minutes the sirens were going off. He went to each table and advised us to relocate as instructed. As the restaurant gathered in this room, he would come in ensuring we were all safe and give us updates on the weather. When the storm died down, we were reseated, and he went to each table and thanked everyone for their patience and sticking out the storm. During dinner, I seen this man, cleaning and clearing tables, taking out garbage, and helping his staff. All I could think about was; there are not enough managers out there like this. All in all- the food, staff, and cocktails were great, however, this gentleman made a wonderful experience for us at saganos yesterday evening! Thank you for showing your leadership, kindness, and thoughtfulness!
I went there over the weekend for my bachelorette party and it was so great! We had fantastic service, the chef was hilarious and the food... AMAZING! I am eating my leftovers now and I can't tell if it was better today or Saturday! Highly recommend it!
Always a great time and delicious food when we visit. I was a bit worried how they would handle the social distancing portion when the tables are made to fit so many people but they have clear plexiglass dividers that fastened onto the table to separate each group. It was nonintrusive and we were able to still see everything that was going on.
Absolute riot...very busy Valentine's Day Day, however they seated us right away with a great wait staff that was on top of getting drinks and orders. Followed by an absolutely hilarious chef that really made the night fun and interesting. Better than I anticipated, great time. The bartender makes great Long Island Iced Teas :-)
The hibachi chefs are not cookie cutter like you see at other places and they really make your experience memorable, not the mention the food is amazing! They also alleviated my safety concerns during COVID by correctly limiting patrons and distancing them while inside, made me feel safe so I could actually enjoy my meal.
Definelty a blast watching great chefs make our food in front of us. Great service and the food was delicious. Would definitely go again and worth every penny that was spent. We had a group of 9 with three younger children and the service was stupendous even with our large group. The chef did an amazing job and the waitstaff was friendly and fast. If your looking for a fun meal experience this is the place
The food and service were excellent! It's expensive, but the food is delicious. My boyfriend and I had chicken and swordfish and it was made perfectly. Plus our chef was very entertaining, which was great as my boyfriend had never been to a hibachi restaurant before. So thank you for you fantastic service/food. I definitely reccommend stopping here at least once, just keep in mind the hours and price.
I personally had a great time with the whole experience they offered to us. My girlfriend was not really into hibachi but ended up enjoying herself and attempting to catch flying chicken peices! Had no trouble getting a table. I would definitely come here again if i am in the area! Amazing food and great prices.
The food was really good, fresh and tasty. Plus the chefs tend to be funny and entertaining just as well. Highly recommend for family and or friends dinner out. Even though we stayed their over 2.5 hours there, you are never bored.
We did the better half's birthday here. The food is great but the show is better. Our chef was amazing. We had a lady with 3 boys for a birthday seated with us. The chef played to the boys. It was so much fun. He sang Happy birthday and did pictures with both birthday celebrants. Highly recommend Saganos to all.
We go to this place pretty frequently. NEVER had a bad experience. Food is awesome. The chefs are all really cool and make it a fun experience. Highly recommend. Oh - pro tip, ask for double fried rice, worth the couple bucks!
My girlfriend and I absolutely loved this place. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was nice, and the staff was friendly. Our cook really wrapped up the whole experience, T did a great job. He was really funny and made the whole experience enjoyable. He was very skilled and cooked all of our food with precision.
This was my first time at Sagano's! The food and service were amazing - I'd certainly go again. I suspect they were understaffed the night we went as we had reservations at 7:30, were seated around 7:40 and the chef wasn't available to start cooking until 8:45sh. From the time we were seated until we had our entree in from of us it was over an hour. Again, I assume and believe they were understaffed on this particular night. I'm still going with five stars because the food was absolutely fantastic, the chef was extremely entertaining, and the service from the entire staff was remarkable.
Best experience ever, had about 10 people there for my sisters birthday party, our hibachi chef, romey, (may be spelling it wrong), but he made the experience amazing!!! I’ve been to quite a few hibachi restaurants and nothing compares to this. Super friendly and absolutely hilarious, made my entire week! 100% recommend if you’re looking for a great experience!!!
We went for my nieces birthday but had to split the party up. Our chef joked, he was talkative and really friendly! They sang happy birthday it was loud and the girls loved it. 🤩
We ordered a meal for two which at first glance seemed pricey. We both had more than enough to eat and more than enough leftover for lunches the next day which made the price more than reasonable The food was excellent quality as well as the service. We were with kids that had seen the Chefs perform before. The kids were delighted by each trick requesting them before he could even get to them. Our Chef did a great job engaging everyone, getting each order correct. They sent our birthday girl home with a complimentary photo with the chef and treated her like a princess. Come hungry & plan on taking home leftovers. Maybe some partial walls instead of all the tables lined up cafeteria style for those that don't care to be in the midst of all the noise & chaos would be my only suggestion.
The food was good. All hibachi style restaurants have similar prices and remember you’re paying for the experience. The chefs are entertaining, but expect loud noises, jokes poking fun at you, and chicken being tossed at you. Anticipate a longer wait time past your reservation during busy hours since they typically won’t seat you until the majority of all of the party (even the strangers you may sit with) are there.
Fun atmosphere and the food is amazing. The Chef's are all skilled and entertaining . We take all our family members there for birthdays because Saganos makes it a special event. Would give 5 stars but there mixed drinks are the worst.
I've been here several times over the years. The food is always great the service is always great. However I do have to knock them down one star because on several occasions we've sat down and had plates with remaining food on them like they went through the dishwasher but didn't get completely clean. I would still suggest them despite this however it has been an issue.
I personally didn't care for the dressing that they use on the salad however, others in my group said it tasted like a homemade honey mustard. The steak, chicken, shrimp, and the fillet are cooked with garlic butter and it is delicious! The vegetables and the chicken fried rice are also made with the same garlic butter and again are delicious; there is also a white or steamed rice option for those who do not like fried rice. I will definitely recommend this place to my friends and family.
Pretty standard hibachi steak house. The atmosphere is less cramp and more modern then most I've been too. The food is good, not so amazing that with out the show I probably wouldn't think I have to go there again. If you like hibachi grills with large group of people then this is a great place to go.
I have visited this location a few times and have had a positive experience each time. The chef during my most recent visit was very funny and entertaining, the food was plentiful and appetizing. I think that the restaurant is in need of a little renovation, for being a higher end hibachi downtown the environment could be more attractive. Always a good time, I will be going back!
This is a fun place for a family dinner. The food is pretty solid - we liked it better than other Hibachi places in the area. The chefs are fun as well. They always like to engage my 7 year old, and he loves it. The portions are very generous, so you'll have food to take home. I suggest making reservations as it can get pretty busy.
Love this place. From the fun atmospheres of the cook's, decent waitstaff, and surprisingly low price for the generous portion sizes. Can't miss with this one. Be aware, if you have anyone in your party who triggers in any way to loud noise or large groups, this may be a difficult place at night. Though it is fully worth the attempt to find out. They make sure to involve you in the whole meal experience, and have a decent selection of drinks as well. We go as often as we can
Delicious food, portion sizes are amazing. Going closer to close may be a bad idea for the service side like getting refills and attention from the waiters/waitresses as they are also working on closing duties and balancing their cash drawers, however, we still ended up leaving happy, full and with lots of left overs.
I am updating my review because the owner responded to my rating. Which makes it seem as though they care. I do think the food is good and experiences is fun if you are dining in, however the blonde hair girl named Nicole who works the front counter and takes phone orders is extremely rude, multiple times I've had interactions with her. For that reason alone I will not be going back.
I am disappointed that they no longer have sushi. The hibachi food is good and the entertainment is always nice. However, I made reservations for a surprise birthday party and the hostess was making me feel very rushed due to the fact that the birthday girl was 10 minutes late. She made me feel bad about the amount of time it was taking to get started and I got a rude vibe in general from her. The rest of the staff was great. I would eat here again but I definitely wouldn't make a party reservation because God forbid the surprise guest is 10 minutes late, the whole place might fall apart.
Food is very buttery & lacks flavor. I was shocked that it's competitors are so much more flavorful. The noodles were too buttery, not stir-fried enough & bland (usually my favorite part). My son & I ordered swordfish & it was obviously old. Had a strong "fishy" odor after being cooked & tasted awful- neither of us ate it. My husband didn't care for his salmon nor the chicken. He said the chicken was too dry & bland. The kids loved their shrimps, which were actually really good. Would definitely not return. Feel bad for the chefs cuz they all seemed great (that's why i gave it 3 stars). They had wonderful personalities & great skills. The staff is friendly too, however we got a very rude server who yelled at me for asking about nuts a 2nd time. She SCREAMED that she already told me that they don't serve nuts in the restaurant (a few of the other families stared at us, feeling bad for me). I wanted to give my server a zero tip (but the tip includes the chef so i couldn't). Might want to try it once just for the entertainment if your nearby. Definitely not good food & you probably won't return (remember: i told you so).
We went there for my son's 9th birthday. I had made a 10 person reservation for 7pm arrived right on time (with our whole party present) checked in with the host and was told it would be a few minutes so we sat in the waiting area, 50 minutes later of waiting I go to check on our table and the other host working rudely proceeded to tell me that I didn't check in (knowing that I did check in when we arrived) and they will have a table shortly, seeing that we had 3 kids under the age of 3 with us. Another 10 minutes later we finally where seated, just to wait another 15 minutes to have our drink orders taken. The chef was pretty experienced and the food was good but for a $170 meal I expect good/prompt service and polite hostess, not sure if we will be going back to this location in the future.
The chef was hilarious and I always enjoy going except this time the chef, without asking anyone, put an extra sauce (that we're all given to add how we want) into my chicken that has always been plain and is on the menu as plain. I. Do. Not. Like. This. Sauce. Not only that, but I always clear a part on my plate for all the different portions and he just put it right in the middle, covering the entire, expensive meal with this dreadful sauce. I hate complaining at restaurants and it was already done, so I wasn't sure what I could do. I tried tasting it to give the benefit of the doubt but it was as horrible as I remembered. It was rude and it ruined my meal and leftovers I was looking forward to have. All I finished were the noodles because I had eaten them before everything was ruined. He was such a nice chef but he took liberties with things people had to pay quite a bit of money for and I am understandably upset. Also, when I finally got the nerve up to say something, it was when the waitress was over asking if people wanted sauce cups. I said, "No, he already put it on the chicken." and was about to continue but she interrupted saying "oh that's awesome" and then left before I could say anything else. I was so frustrated and agitated... Such great customer service...
I want to preface this unfavorable review by saying my family and I have all worked at restaurants at some point in our lives. We had one of the worst experiences we’ve ever had at a restaurant. Problem after problem after problem. We had a reservation but weren’t seated until 15 minutes after the reservation time. Then we sat for nearly 20 more minutes at table without being greeted, despite every server in the restaurant seeing us. My husband had to go to the bar and tell them that we still hadn’t even been greeted. Appetizers came halfway through our actual meal (45 min after ordering), they were cold, and food runner assured us they would not be on bill. They were still on the bill. It was my sisters birthday, we ordered with our server the “Birthday special”(which you pay for) and nothing ever came. There were no apologies, no ownership taken. My husband had to go and find a manager. The manager was kind and apologetic and eager to discount the bill - which is fine, but we didn’t want a discount - we wanted a nice evening with our family and instead the memory will be the ridiculous and unapologetic service.
I drove over an hour from livonia in a heavy snow storm to meet a woman ive been dating, i made a reservation inside the restaurant at 6:58p.m. I decided to sit in my car while i waited for my date to show up, after waiting about 10 minutes, I decided to go back inside the restaurant to wait till she arrived to find the manager locked the door, and placed this sign on the front door. Not only did this ruin my date with this woman, it ruined my experience with this restaurant.
Went for the first time and got hot soup spilled all over me. Soaked the front of my shirt and pants. Took everything I had not to get up and leave, but I didn't want to make a scene. At the end of the meal I was told the manager "allowed" them to take 20% off one single meal (we had a party of 4). Took about $9 off a $150 bill. I should've gotten up and left after I was covered in hot soup. I can spend $150 anywhere and not get humiliated and nearly burned during the course of dinner. Accidents happen, I'm fine, but their course of action in trying to remedy the situation was frankly insulting. Needless to say I'll never be back. Food was good.
My fiance took me here as a dinner for our engagement. He called ahead and made a reservation, but we still had to wait 20 minutes. Our chef was comedic and personable, no negatives there. Our food...I was super grossed out that I was served noodles and rice together with the rest of the plate. The noodles were way over buttered and not appetizing whatsoever. My rice was was way over salted and peppered. Meat and veggies were okay just too much of that butter! I did not enjoy the dressing on the ginger salad as well. Tasted like pure sesame oil. I am disappointed we spent $51.00 for a dinner we did not enjoy at all. My fiance was stick to his stomach that night after our dinner. We won't be going back here.
Usually a great spot. This time, not so much. Among other little problems, here was the main. I ordered chicken and lobster for my dinner. I did not receive the lobster. When I brought it to our waiters attention, he said "I'll check with the chef and see what he wants to do." I told him no problem, and I was already full and please just take off the lobster. Fast forward, everyone else has paid and had their leftovers boxed up. That's when the waiter comes out with a cooked lobster tail and says sorry. I told him just to take it off, and at this point, what am I supposed to do, eat it while everyone else in the party watches!? Now I'm stuck with take home lobster, which in sure reheats wonderfully. I should have taken care of this at the restaurant, but I was so dumbfounded at the time, it was missed. I will not be back.
Stay away!!! I have been to this restaurant over 20 times. Last night was the most horrible experience I ever had at any restaurant. We were out to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We were a group of 8 people. The manager refused a groupon. When I asked why she rudely told me to read the fine print. When I asked her to bring out a cake we had brought she said you can eat the cake in the lobby. At that point I raised my tone. I gave her my credit card to pay. She never came back and after about 15 minutes I was surprised to see that she called the cops. I explained the story to the cops and he demanded her to give me my credit card back. I signed the receipt and left after receiving an apology from the cop. I called the owner on his cell. Owner was apologetic but not sure if he took any measures to resolve the issue with his manager or make things right for myself and family for a night that went terribly wrong.
Would give them zero stars if possible....hard to properly rate them when they never seat your party. Had a 7pm reservation, arrived at 6:50 as requested when we made the reservation, 7:25 and still not seated...ended up leaving. The manager didn’t seem to care one way or another - had a “too bad” attitude about the situation said they were waiting for people to leave couldn’t give a time...clearly they overbook their reservations as a matter of normal business practice.
All you can taste is butter. I mean a lot of butter. All the meats including the shrimp were overcook. The noodles are soggy and don't taste good even with the sauces. The only thing that taste good is the fried rice. And they up charge like $3 for that option, really! The Chef show was decent and the server was good. I gave them the benefit of the doubt last time and went again. But never again, this time was worse. They do give you a bunch of food to make up for the poor quality. So many more options in Brighton, wish I would have elsewhere. Well, we live and we learn. Also, I think this place is under new management, the manager was rude in how she handled an issue we had.
