Visited Asheville and did the usual Biltmore and Grove Park Inn for first time visitors. However, decided to grab lunch at more of a local restaurant. Checked out the menu and reviews for Rye Knot on OpenTable and decided to go. Loved it. First, we ate at the bar and got to spend time and got to know a little bit about the place and its owner Bob. The food was really really good. We had the dry rub BBQ naked wings with the sauce on the side. These were smoked perfectly and juicy and tender. Followed that with the Shaved Ribeye Sammy. The ribeye was delicious and the sandwich was great. They have prime rib on the weekends and he makes a couple of extras to use for the ribeye sandwiches during the week. It makes for a great sandwich. The fries were crispy and seasoned just right. There is a full bar. Since it was a Sunday brunch I had a Bloody Mary, but had him use the Rye Knot Rye Whiskey they distilled on site. It was so good I might have bought a bottle on my way out. The location is open and airy and you will find it spotless. Bob used to command a Navy destroyer so you can imagine it is literally “ship shape”. If you are in Asheville and want a cool local place to have some bar fare, this is the place to go.

We drove down from Kingsport, TN for an Anniversary dinner. We loved it. The Rye Knot Pretzel and Sausage appetizer was perfect. He had the Reuben. It was huge! Fish n Chips for me. Tallow fries were amazing. The staff was top knotch. Our server, Timothy was wonderful. Thanks for a great evening.

Great outdoor eating...lots ofgreat beers. Finally got to eat inside! Very spacious. Had drinks at the beautiful bar before dinner. Excellent jalapeño margaritas and a session IPA that was so good I had to have 2! I had the fried green tomato Napoleon made w fresh goat cheese and shrimp with a ham gravy. Heavenly. I used a tallow French fry to get every bit of sauce. Smoked mac and cheese side could have been a meal.

I had a couple beers brewed in house, all very good. The corn chowder and half grilled cheese also very good. Nice looking place with nice covered outdoor seating as well. Google says they close at 8pm but they close at 9pm. I’ll update hours or suggest an edit. They are open later then 9pm certain nights as well. Closed on Tuesday. Looking forward to a cocktail next time!

Diamond in the rough. What looks like a simple southern establishment outside. You enter to find amazing dining. Great service. Food that will beyond fulfill your taste and wonderment. I was impressed with their culinary presentation as well. I feel that most people would frown on price until you try the dry aged ribeye. Then you will proudly open your wallet. I will come back if I ever come through this area again!

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. Enjoyed a drink at the bar and sampled a flight which included their rye whiskey, bourbon, dark rum and vodka made on site in their own distillery. Will definitely go back next time I am visiting Asheville.

Amazing food and ambiance. Staff was wonderful as always. It's our favorite restaurant. Our favorite restaurant!!!! The beer and spirits are amazing. Tonight I had the all you eat mussels and the best Old Fashion in town.

Hands down one of the best meals I’ve had. Started off with some locally crafted beer. And by local, I mean 5 feet behind the bar. Since the menu was full of amazing items, we went with Brussel sprouts and pork belly. So delicious and perfectly cooked. Next up was a plate of mussels. Ask for extra bread as you will need that for the juices left over. Mussels had a great taste and the sauce was amazing. Decided to go with the meatloaf as it was listed as a local favorite. It was absolutely amazing and every bite was perfect. Mashed potato’s, gravy, sauté summer squash and zucchini and a dash of onion strings. All in all a hidden gem in Asheville and well worth the trip out.

Rye Knot was out of this world! We had the mussels, Brussels sprouts with pork belly, and smoked meatloaf. One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Highly recommend!

My spouse is a Reuben connoisseur and he swears he will be dreaming of this one. The fries are also worth a shout out! It was all delicious.

This place is so cute! Vibe, drinks, service and food were on point. My boyfriend and I got artichokes, buffalo shrimp, a grilled cheese, a couple beers and did a flight of their spirits: the food was all very good and Joanne was the best! Highly recommend.

Great food and atmosphere! Rye Knot is definitely one of (if not our top) favorite places to go for quality food and drinks. We are always impressed!

This was my first time eating at Rye Knot, and I really enjoyed it. The beer was fantastic! They put a thin slice of strawberry in the strawberry beer so you could smell the fruit as you took a sip. That was a really touch and enhanced the experience. I had the bruschetta with hummus. It tasted great (loved the balsamic glaze), although I do prefer diced tomatoes instead of the half-sliced grape tomatoes piled on top. I will definitely be back!

What a great brewpub! We were in town for three days and got dinner here each night, so we sampled lots of the fare. Slight of brews, all well made to style. Cocktails using their own distilled spirits, very well balanced and crafted. Food ranging from poutine to soups, nachos to sandwiches, consistently excellent. And I simply have to mention the Tallow Fries — best fries you will ever have! The service was consistently excellent. The noise level quite low even when crowded, which is not easy to achieve with a high ceiling. All in all a comfortable place with top notch food, beverages and service.

Great local owned gem. Came for lunch and had a tasting of their spirits. Had the Brussels sprout app which was unique and a great take on the dish. Had the pork pastrami reuben which was a special and so glad I went with that. Another unique twist. Owners were so nice to talk to. Check this place out, you won’t be disappointed.

Came for lunch and had the Rueben and shrimp Sammy . Was delish and their house beers too! We even played a couple games of Gin Rummy thanks to Joann’s deck of cards!

Best steak in Asheville??? I think so. 2nd visit to Knot but this time I had the aged ribeye. It was cooked perfectly and was juicy and tasted amazing. One of my top 3 steaks I've ever had out anywhere. I added the garlic potatoes and smoked Mac and cheese for the sides and both were great. She had the shaved ribeye sandwich with the tallow fries. The fries were so good. That sandwich was great also. Can't wait to try another sandwich there!!

We enjoyed our late lunch here. Some of the food was high sodium but overall all delicious. The portions were great too. We especially loved the atmosphere, cleanliness, layout and decor. We'll be back to order from the dinner menu.

Too much winning! What does this gem not have?? So thankful we found this incredible establishment amid visiting Asheville! This Naval Academy graduate 🇺🇸 runs a clean and welcoming tight-ship, with an excellent space and intentional, patriotic decor, unique and inticing menu, absolutely delicious food and drinks, even a professional Shuffle Board in the high-class bar area... on top of the incredibly friendly and talented hospitality team! Super impressive staff here! 🙌 We give the food and drinks 5-stars, and they have now earned another family of loyal customers, as we will be sure to go out of our way to return to this new favorite eatery!! 🫡 Honestly, the best nachos, smoked brisket, loaded fries, and smoked buffalo wings we've ever eaten! 🤤

Stopped by and sat outside for a drink. Wasn't there for a meal, but looking over their menu I wish I had been! Definitely marked this as a place to return to. Excellent beer/drink menu and can't wait to come back!

My husband and I had a great date at Rye Knot. The Fried Green Tomato Napolean was to die for rich and delicious with local goat cheese, tasso ham and shrimp. My husband got the Brisket nachos, the meat was cooked to perfection, and he loved the crispy fried wontons instead of tortilla chips and ate every bite. The service was also excellent!

M

Thank you Rye Knot for a perfect steak, lemon mint orzo and grilled asparagus that we finished off with the most amazing bread pudding! You have won over new “regulars”. We can’t wait to come back and try the smoked meatloaf next. Just as a side note, thank you to our server, Jordan for making our 40th anniversary the best!

So, the drinks...wow! I had a pumpkin spice white russian and it wa so delicious. I also had one of their porters and it was quite enjoyable. The pizza, called 3 Little Pigs, sounded like it would be great. However, the dough seemed like it probably was a frozen or pre-made source and the sauce was super sweet like a jar of tomato paste or something pre-made. We did not try any of the other snacks this time, but we will be back. The drinks are worth it and the service was great. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. We even got to meet the owner, Captain Bob :)

Rye knot is in an unpretentious location under the former Stein Mart off Merrimon Avenue. They offer indoor and outdoor dining. I love that this is a disabled veteran owned business and that it is both a brewery and a distillery which is very unique. I dined here for lunch with a friend but we didn't have time to linger over a drink or a cocktail. I look forward to going back and finding out more about their beers and liquors. The menu is small (an expanded menu is offered at dinner) but the food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Shaved Ribeye Sammy ($17.00) with Tallow Fries as my side. The bun is toasted and the sandwich is nothing short of phenomenal. The Tallow Fries are everything you'd expect. My friend ordered the Fried Green Tomato BLT ($15.00): (Panko Breaded Green Tomatoes | Applewood Smoked Bacon | Organic Mixed Greens | Goat Cheese | Toasted AnnIe’s Sourdough | Pepper Jelly) He loved his as well. Pricing is high presumably for the quality of the ingredients. But this definitely restricts being a regular for lunch. There's plenty of parking, friendly staff, and a cozy environment. I look forward to trying the dinner menu and ordering some dry aged steak! Yes, it'll be a little pricey but the price on the dry aged steak looks appropriate for what it is. I also look forward to sampling some of the liquid menu offerings!!

Rye knot was a huge space… very clean large place. They had many gluten free options and cook their fries in tallow. My shaved steak sandwich was a little tough to chew but the gluten free bread was good. The best part was the crispy gf French fries and the maple Burbon crème Brulé was fantastic.

Beautiful spot nestled on a busy spot in downtown Asheville. I was in a spicy mood, so I had the buffalo battered shrimp (appetizer as my entree), and tallow fries, very good. Spouse had a shaved boneless ribeye sandwich and tallow fries. He wasn't pleased and said it could use more seasoning. I had a margarita that was spicy and delicious hit the spicy spot I needed! Hubby had a barrel aged stout and an Asheville IPA. A bit pricey for the two of us, two entrees, and three adult beverages, tax and tip $90. I think the prices are a bit much but with everything being so expensive it's to be expected. I'm glad we tried it, Asheville has a plethora of great places, and I am here for it. Great time had with our party of eight.

Relaxed and fun atmosphere. Food was very good. The service was very slow. Fish fry was incredible. Espresso martini creamy was fantastic!

Went to get a tomahawk steak priced $89 on the menu. After ordering it I was informed it would take around 30 minutes which was okay, afterwards I was approached by a staff member saying that it was going to be $50 more ($143) so I changed my order to the aged ribeye. Food was very delicious other than just like the other 2 times I’ve been there I end up throwing up

Stopped by Rye Knot for lunch today. Extremely disappointed. We've been here several times before and always recommended, especially for the Reuben with homemade corned beef and the fish and chips. My husband ordered the mushroom soup, strangely innocuous and just okay. The Reuben was good but not as good as previously. My fish was not cooked completely and resulted in soggy batter. highly disappointing. I'm fairly sure we will not return. I mentioned my disappointment to the server and she took my input but nothing was offered. One good thing, the fries were great but not enough for a return visit.

Food was exceptionally 👍good. Sausage is to die for. Eclectic menu, covering many a pallette. Great outdoor space and such amazingly nice staff. A hidden jewel!!! 🤔 Update 9.4.21. Walked in at 1953 waited almost 7 minutes to be acknowledged! Then was told no longer sitting because they had been slow so closing early. 10 tables of people outside. We could drink but NO food. Poor business model/ decision!!! Lost 2 stars, and likely much repeat business. Returned! Food and service was back to normal. Excellent quality and diverse menu! Such friendly staff!! 1-28-2022.

Went twice. Merely disappointed with the plain, unseasoned Brussels sprouts the first time, otherwise the food was pretty good. The second time they were out of potato’s (?!), so we had to change entrees, the food came out in two parts, the chicken dinner was extremely sad and had to be returned, and the owner was there but didn’t say a word to us about how terrible everything was. Will absolutely never return to this place and will make sure none of my friends do either. Very expensive for a very lackluster experience.

We went for lunch on a Tuesday. It was not too crowded, but we soon found out that they have a serious lack of help problem. When the beer I ordered did not come for 30 minutes, I asked the waitress if she could bring it. She said she was the only server, and would get it as soon as she could. It was another 30 minutes before we realized we would have to get it to go or be late for an appointment. Our food was finally ready after an hour, so the lack of help was affecting the kitchen too. Unfortunately, it threw a off the timing of our whole day. Not interested in going back after this experience.

Extremely tart whiskey sour…really just tasted like lemon juice. Ordered the pork belly over brussells as an appetizer. It came out with a giant hunk of pork belly and a quarter of that was very overcooked and the other portion was raw and extremely fatty. Our server noticed this without us saying anything and they removed the pork belly from our bill. I got the aged tenderloin as the main and the steak was very fatty and tough. It did not taste aged. The Mac and cheese that came with the steak was extremely greasy, I had to strain the grease out of the Mac and cheese before I could eat it. My partner had the meatloaf which was ok though on the dry side. I would not recommend going here and if you would like a dry aged steak Proper in downtown Asheville is phenomenal.

Sadly, last night was one of thew worst dining experiences I've had. The food was so-so, unlike prior experiences and the service was non-existent. It took them 1-1/2 hours to get a sandwich to our table. Not an exaggeration. They apologized, said they'd not charge for the sandwich, and then they charged for the sandwich. This is the 2nd meal in 2 weeks that was far less than what should be expected. One lunch and one dinner.

Food is amazing. Service is horrendous. We have been here twice. The first time the service was so slow, but our waiter said it was an anomaly. The food was so delicious, so we gave them another shot. We went by today and there was one waitress for the whole restaurant. We waited 15 minutes before we were acknowledged and when we asked to order she flat out told us no because she was busy. We left and will not be back. There are so many other great restaurants in the area to waste your time at a place that treats their customers like this.

M
Maureen Jarock

Really disappointing. Ordered grilled chicken, cole slaw and mac n’ cheese. $24 for 4 small burnt pieces of chicken. The “cole slaw” was a bowl of shredded red cabbage, completely dry, no dressing at all. The mac and cheese looked like soup, watery and zero flavor. I sent it back, they did take it off the bill. My husband and one of our friends ordered mashed potatoes as a side with the pork chop and prime rib. 30 minutes later, our waitress came to the table to tell us that they were out of mashed potatoes and fingerling potatoes, 7 o’clock on a Friday night in the middle of dinner service no potatoes?! We were sitting outside and staring directly at a grocery store within walking distance. I offered to go buy them a bag of potatoes. We felt sorry for our waitress who was the only good part of our experience. Obviously, we’ll never go back and will never recommend this place to anyone.

M
Mallory Robinson

Today my husband and I ate at Rye Knot and initially enjoyed our visit. We ordered a burger and sandwich. My husband had a live June bug crawl out of his burger. We notified the waitress immediately and she was very apologetic. However, the manger came by with a smile and said “sorry this happened” while chuckling. They remade my husbands burger and when the brought it to us, the man who I presume is the manager, said “this isn’t the craziest thing we have had happen. We once had a copper head in our green tomatoes”. We had to pay full price for this meal and had little to no acknowledgment of the incident.

Giving it one star because it was the mid-est of mid and exceptionally overpriced. I haven’t been blown away by this lackluster of a milquetoast restaurant in Asheville in a LONG time. The weirdest part- I’m not joking about this- was one of the owners eating at the bar when we arrived, who proceeded to *very* loudly/grossly lick their fingers, beatboxed on the bar top, mumbled to themselves repeatedly, and slammed their phone down on the bar. Maybe they were on some good weed, which, fine…or they were just being an aloof bar owner doing a weird flex in their restaurant. Other stuff: They brew their own beer - they shouldn’t. They should just buy other reputable AVL breweries’ beer. It was exceedingly bland. The food- it was food. I was excited about the GF options on the menu but it was just technically sustenance. Atmosphere- has potential, truly. Clean, bright, cool layout, really nice bar. But…All the military branch flags, odd smattering of kitschy nautical theme decorations, and the oddball owner at the bar really detracted from the vibe. Also, we are in our mid thirties and we were definitely the youngest people in the restaurant. Just saying. Price- insanely overpriced. $104 for drinks, a single quartered corn cob (a “rib” if you will), a flavorless ribeye sandwich, and BBQ wings that were…chicken with BBQ on them.
