Opinions de Barley & Boar Atascadero
After a day of wildflower driving we treated ourselves to this lovely restaurant. We got to sit at the counter to watch the kitchen action. Frankie helped us with our meal. We ordered 4 starters, the bread, chicken, skewer and brussel sprouts. We had a fun fried cheese ball, amuse bouche to start. We liked the bread, the pork belly, the popcorn chicken were nice and moist. We ordered two entrees, the boar and the steak. The boar with mash potatoes and veggies was a favorite, the steak was fine in a wine sauce, we like steak with a bit of fat. We were too full to try dessert but we had a nice chocolate to end our meal. The meal and service were excellent.
My wife and I recently enjoyed a terrific dining experience at Barley & Boar. We were given friendly and near perfect service by Emmarie, our server. We also sat at the counter with views into the kitchen where we were able to see the cooks perform their magic. Our appetizer, the lamb belly was beautifully braised and delicious. My entrée, the white sea bass was cooked perfectly, with the wild mushrooms and pommes puree a perfect compliment. This was the best dining experience in our week long visit to Atascadero. You folks rock!
This place is excelling in all areas - a must visit! We walked in here on a Friday night with no reservations and 4 people. They accommodated us at the bar and assured us we could order the full menu. We were immediately greeted by the bartender and offered waters. She took our drink order, and even made a custom cherry limeade mocktail for a young person in our party. We browsed the menu and placed our orders. Someone who appeared to be a manager (or in management) joined the two ladies behind the bar and made sure that everyone was taken care of. The manager were present but not invasive, attentive but not annoying - so it was perfect! We started the evening with an amuse-bouche that was perfectly executed. My mocktail was fantastic. I opted to have a salad and a starter since I wasn't super hungry. Both were beautifully plated and served at the exact temperature. We were too full to order dessert, but we were offered chocolates from the house. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 THIS is how dining should be. The vibe inside was cozy and cool, but not trying too hard. I just really enjoyed our meal, our service and the whole experience. So much so that we're planning another trip back to Atascadero, MAINLY just to dine here. I will make reservations next time though!
I just had a meal and service that blew my top off. My server, Devin? Well, she did more than deliver dinner to a table. Thank you for incredible service and positive vibes! Now... for dinner. Began with a house-made vodka martini. Hand-stuffed bleu cheese olives, cracked pink peppercorns and vermouth. Yep! Starter: ALWAYS the fried green tomatoes, because they are always different and decadent to an entirely new level. "...[with] crab salad, charred scallion dip, tarragon oil, and torn herbs". Palate perfect! The entrée: Etto spaghetti, vodka cream, summer squash, asparagus, squash blossoms, garlic sun-dried tomato pesto, and grana padano. (You should be looking up these foods.) Bright, savory, fresh, and totally remarkable. Now, dessert... I've never had anything like this. It is simply advertised as 'Chocolate Tart', but look at the pictures! "Short pastry, chocolate custard, Hispanic spice, dulce de leche Gelato with house fresh vanilla bean whipped cream". I am so very satisfied right now!
We had the best dining experience here...hidden gem!! Delicious craft cocktails and wines!! Food was spot on!!! We will ne back again soon!
Went to Barley and Boar for Valentine’s Day and it did not disappoint. We were greeted right away, had our table right away, and our server was very attentive and helpful. I also had the best martini I’ve ever had! My guy loved the pork chop and I loved the mussels. We will return!
Amazing Atmosphere Service & Food.. Chef Daniel & Leo fantastic! Frankie our server incredible a must go to!
Awesome atmosphere, amazing staff, and hand crafted speciality drinks! The food is always top notch. We like the rotating menus and the specials they serve. Its fun to sit at the bar or hang out at the kitchen counter. It’s nice to have a higher end restaurant in the downtown.
Based on the reviews and what we had personally heard from others, we were anticipated liking this place, but honestly it literally blew away every expectation we had. You go to a place like this for the entire dining experience, not just to grab a bite to eat, and trust me, you won't be disappointed. From the warm greeting we received from host Albert when we arrived to the perfect dessert at the end of our meal, the restaurant left an indelible mark on us. I would highly recommend requesting seating at the chef's counter, where we had the pleasure of watching the talented kitchen team work their magic. By virtue of sitting here, you also may receive a little something special ;-) Both the head and sous chef were very friendly and happy to chat with us during our meal, and are obviously comfortable working their magic in front of an attentive audience. Our server, Darcie, deserves special recognition for her exceptional service. She was not only friendly but also helpful and went above and beyond to make our evening enjoyable. As new residents in Atascadero, her enthusiasm to share her favorite local spots made us feel welcome and appreciated. Her attentiveness throughout dinner was also much appreciated. The ever-changing monthly menu at Barley and Boar adds an element of excitement and surprise, so if you find something you love, don't hesitate to order it as it might not be available the next time you visit. We started our meal with the raw oysters from British Columbia, served with a house-made mignonette and a pickled spicy chili relish, and they were absolutely delicious. For our main courses, we ordered the pan-seared scallops and the slow-smoked bone-in beef short rib. The scallops were were cooked flawlessly and served over a bed of delicious grilled pork belly slaw. The short rib was fall-off-the-bone tender and incredibly flavorful. The restaurant's reputation for outstanding cocktails held true, as my "Fit For a King" Old Fashioned was hands down the best I've ever had while my wife thoroughly enjoyed her glass of the Sans Liege Rhone Blend white wine. We concluded our meal with the warm, homemade donut holes served with slices of fresh peaches and blackberries over top of house-made creme fraiche, an ideal sweet ending. Overall, our experience at Barley and Boar was outstanding, and as new residents, we are grateful to have such an exceptional restaurant within a short distance from our home. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was inviting and fun. While not an inexpensive meal, we left feeling the exceptional food and attentive service made it well worth the cost for a very memorable fine dining experience.
Quite literally the best bread and butter I’ve ever had in my life. Wow. Off the charts, 2nd to none. Cheese sticks and tacos delicious, as well. Def worth a stop, right off hwy 101. :)
Last night was the second visit my wife and I have made to Barley and Boar. We did my 30th birthday dinner here in December '23 after hearing lot of great word of mouth locally and enjoyed that visit so much that my wife wanted to do her 30th birthday dinner at B&B as well. Last night was consistent with our first visit. The service upon arriving was exceptional from the hostess, to our waiter, to the kitchen staff, and in between. The entire team here is super friendly and interactive. I highly recommend making reservations at the counter where you face the open kitchen and get a front row seat to watch the amazing group of chef's and sous-chef's that make all the dishes at B&B from scratch. Sitting here seriously makes me appreciate their craft with the attention to detail they display. Food wise, we started by sharing the Bread and Butter, the Steamed Clams, and both ordered "The Beef" after it was recommended by our waitress. Everything was absolutely phenomenal. When it came to the entree, the meat fell off the bone and the jus it came with was exceptional. The side of potatoes and fresh seasonal vegetables were also a great touch. Also ordered the 'Fit For a King' old fashioned that was part of their expansive spirits/wine/beer list. It was one of my favorites in the county. Special shout out to the kitchen staff for the incredible Amuse-bouche for the 2nd straight visit. This time it was a piece of tender steak with kimchi and habanero dressing. Second shout out to the staff for all the personal touches on our dinner. It meant a lot to my wife to have her 30th birthday recognized by your staff so sincerely and she absolutely raved about the chocolate mousse desert that had a strawberry chantilly cream & salted strawberry foam that you provided us with at the end. We seriously can't recommend this establishment more to locals and to celebrate a special occasion. Can't wait to go back in the future!
The best restaurant in A-Town! 100% great, nothing less than 10. Our new favorite spot. The dishes were incredible with robust, fresh flavors. We sat at the kitchen bar, which was an inclusive and amazing experience. At the kitchen bar, we had the unique opportunity to converse with the entchanting chefs, Cordell and Sean, who make this fabulous new restaurant a truly magnificent experience! Highly recommend!
Huge foodie here! This place is the new spot in slo county! So many amazing dishes! Skewers, boar and beef are all wonderful! The attention to detail is refreshing for the 805. Great bar with in house beers and spirits! Staff is seasoned and are friendly, fun and prompt! This place checks off all the boxes! Make a reservation & thank me later!
Really great. Really friendly staff. Quinn at the bar was very sweet and helped recommend dishes and drinks. Didn’t sit at the kitchen counter, but it looked like great place to dine as well.
Very nice place to eat. The food is beautiful and flavorful.

This place is beyond belief. The menu may be a little small but the food is incredible, and no matter what you order the dish is fantastic. A big thanks to Daniel for the amazing service I've never seen an open kitchen concept before. The chef closest to us was Leo and he was so amazingly friendly in explaining everything he was cooking and chatting about his methods. I enjoy cooking at home so this really blew me away Thank you B&B for such a great evening!
Everything that we experienced from the first step in the door until after our meal and leaving for the evening was exceptional. From the service to the beverages to the appetizers to the meals, everything was spot on perfect.
Really neat place! The drinks were delicious and food was great. We got the oysters and they were incredibly fresh. The beet salad was great. Our waitress was really nice and we never waited long for anything.
Shoutout to Frankie at Barley and Boar. My order got missed due to a POS issue, and he went above and beyond to make it right. He was super proactive, kept us in the loop, and even comped the item. Excellent service, excellent food...10/10. We’ll definitely be back. If you're the manager reading this, definitely give Frankie a raise!
Came in for a Friday night 8pm reservation and ordered a little of everything to share with my fiance. Might be my new favorite date night, a great wine and cocktail list. We ordered pork belly, shaved brussels, an unreal wedge salad, elevated taco-bell style crispy tacos and probably the most memorable dish of the evening, The Pasta. Our taste palettes were a little all over the place but our server gave such great recommendations we just had to try it all.

Cozy vibes and great happy hour food and drinks. Bar tender was friendly as was the server who greeted and sat us. Thanks for a fun night!
This place is fantastic!! My husband and I live in Atascadero and I have no idea why it took us this long to go try, but we are so glad we finally did! Excellent service and the food and cocktails were exceptional. It’s definitely one of our new favorites.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Experienced traveler here, Barley and Boar has top tier elevated food and cocktails. The vibe is something akin to the big names of Napa, Los Olivos and Santa Barbara. I don’t eat a lot of meat and find the vegetarian options to be really well done. If you’re casual go for a seat at the bar, if you’re into something special go for a seat at the chef’s counter. 🙏
We will be BACK!! Great service, Cocktail and Food. The mix of flavors is incredible. Not an overwhelming menu, but the dishes are exquisitely tailored. Very impressed with the service and friendliness of ALL the staff. Yes, We Will Be Back.
Downtown Atascadero eatery, nice ambiance, open kitchen, easy street parking, small menu, craft beer. Beer was good, the chicken was moist and tasty, beet salad was okay, boar was shredded with a taste that was not great, tasting more like beef, not wild. I will go back but will pass on the boar.
The food is fantastic! We love their cocktails and drinks selection. It’s nice to see quality non-alcoholic options too. It’s quite noisy though and on a busy Friday night, service was a tad slow. But that’s understandable. Definitely recommend making a reservation on a Friday or Saturday night. Cool spot for Atascadero!
The food was good, but the service we received was very disappointing. We arrived around 5:30 p.m. as a party of three without a reservation. At the time, about half of the dining area was empty and the bar was completely empty. Despite that, the waitress (who appeared to be the only one working on the floor that evening) told us that nothing was available and didn’t even offer the option of sitting at the bar. When I pointed out an empty table for four, she said it would be seated soon. Later we also noticed another empty table in the back. Only after I specifically asked to sit at the bar did she finally agree to seat us there. (The service from the waiter behind the bar was fine.) The funny part: we left around 7:40 p.m., and both of those tables remained empty the entire time. As the only Asian guests in the restaurant that evening, the experience unfortunately made us question whether we were being treated differently. I sincerely hope that wasn’t the case, but the situation certainly left that impression. Also worth noting: a 2.99% service fee was automatically added to the bill. (Not a big deal, we just tipped accordingly.)
My wife and I had her Bday dinner at B & B last night. I have visited this restaurant in the past and I researched and thought this would be the perfect spot. Unfortunately that was not the case. We were very dissapointed, we wanted to get the whole experience so we arrived at 4:00 P.M. to start with the happy hour. The Gimlet was like lemonade, and a short pour. Then the food, I ordered the burger, and for $27.00 you would think it would be a great burger, not so, it came out well done, dry and very little flavor, I asked for M-MR. The burger fell flat and I would never order it or recommend the burger to anyone. The wife ordered the Boar (pork chop) had minimal flavor, dry and it was almost as dissapointing as the burger. I mentioned this to the server and she said "I'm sorry", I well tell the cook. In my mind there should have been some kind of consideration/adjustment on the bill. The only bright side of the evening is they did comp a Bday treat, that was a nice gesture. We will not be visiting anytime soon. Potential Bday celebration turned out to be a major dissapointment
