Opinions de Osteria il Muro Aubrey
My husband Ron found Osteria and wanted to eat there for his birthday; we managed to get a reservation for the day we wanted -- and it did NOT disappoint. The restaurant (a former parsonage on the south side of Denton) is warm and cozy without being claustrophobic; the service (Ben) is outstanding; and the food is off-the-charts delicious. We highly recommend starting with their sourdough focaccia, which was airy and fluffy (and slightly warm, so the butter melted). We then had two appetizers -- pheasant terrine, and roasted beets with sheep's milk ricotta. For our main courses, I had tajarin (similar to fettucine) with wild mushrooms, while Ron had the special: a glazed, pan-seared pork chop on a bed of spaetzle with pancetta, turnip greens, and carmelized cabbage. We finished the evening with desert (chocolate torta barozzi for me and olive oil cake for him). When they found out we were celebrating his birthday, Ben brought out a card signed by the entire staff, which was a lovely touch. Reservations are tough to come by because the restaurant is so small, but we emailed them a couple of weeks ahead of time and said when we wanted to dine there and why. James, the general manager, replied quickly and could accommodate us as long as we could be flexible on time. They do try to keep the flow moving and have guidelines for how long the full experience will take. For two people, it's 90 minutes; we were a few minutes over that but never felt like they were trying to rush us out. We're already planning a return trip!
One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in my entire life. My husband and I came here for our anniversary and were wished congratulations upon entering the door and they even had a card for us on the table. The waitress took the time to walk through each of the menu options and provide ample recommendations. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend to anyone who loves a good meal.
Fantastic meal. The waitress Bree was extremely knowledgeable about the whole menu and had great recommendations of wine pairings for each dish. Fantastic pronunciation of some hard to say Italian words. Really cozy atmosphere surrounded by the tools of the pasta making trade. Legitimately some of the best food I've eaten in a long time. I won't go into detail on the food I got since their menu does change, but just know you're in for a good time and will not leave hungry. Reservations were a breeze for someone that grew up having to snipe Ebay listings and Ticketmaster tickets. But I could imagine some might have issues. But they release cancelations at noon as well as patio and bar top seating.
Food, service, and ambiance were top notch. Really reminded us of an old Osteria we would visit in Italy. Our server Taylor guided us through the menu and her suggestions were excellent. Our only critique is we did think desserts were lacking compared to everything else. The citrus cake was a little flat in flavor and an eggy flavor finish. Gelato was great though. I was very surprised to hear a place of this caliber doesn’t have a pastry chef. I think hiring one would really set this place apart from the rest. Can’t wait to return with more friends!
We came here to celebrate my birthday and had such a great experience. The restaurant felt cozy and inviting, the service was spot-on, and the food came out at the perfect pace. Nothing felt rushed. The menu felt fresh and different from other Italian places. The small plates were perfect for sharing, and the entrées were generous. I didn’t leave a single bite behind. Dessert was also a highlight, and both we tried were totally worth it. I’d happily come back again.
My husband and I are foodies through and through. After trying just about every restaurant in Denton, I can say proudly that Osteria il Muro is hands-down, our favorite restaurant. Is it pricey? Yes. Is it so good that we save up to go as often as possible? Yes, and it is worth every single penny. The food is impeccable, well thought out, and everything is made fresh daily, with much of it being farm-to-table. If wine is your thing, they have an amazing, and well paired selection, and what is an italian meal without an espresso (also amazing)? The staff is amazing, helpful, kind, attentive, knowledgeable, and fun. Its a small restaurant and getting reservations can be an adventure, but we have yet to regret an evening there. Reservation bookings open on their website the last Monday of the month at noon for the following month. Worth the wait, worth the cost. Just perfect.
In the heart of Denton, TX, we discovered Osteria Il Muro—an intimate restaurant with only 28–30 seats. We were warmly welcomed, and the wait time was under 10 minutes. Taylor, our server, greeted us and explained the restaurant’s concept and how the menu flows harmoniously, emphasizing that every dish is crafted entirely from scratch. Menu: Our selection began with the rosemary focaccia and house-made butter. We followed with six oysters—the balance of blood orange and garlic offered an interesting and refreshing combination. We would have enjoyed a touch more heat to complement the flavors. Main Courses: The Oxtail Genovese featured perfectly al dente pasta and incredibly tender meat. A well-balanced dish. The star of the evening was the special: a short rib cooked sous vide for 24 hours. The red wine reduction and mushroom purée created a flawless pairing. Both dishes were served in shareable portions, inviting us to compare flavors and encouraging lively conversation at the table. Dolce: We chose the gelato flight with three flavors—limoncello biscotti, sauvignon blanc, and chocolate peppermint. Overall, Osteria il Muro offers an intimate experience in a lively and refreshing atmosphere. Service is top-tier from the moment you arrive. Culinary-wise, it’s a place that deserves recognition as one of the best for its innovative concept. We will definitely return to enjoy more of their creations. Although keeping an eye on the reservation system (Tock) is necessary, the visit is worth every penny.
Love going here. The food is amazing and the people are even better. They're very friendly and very knowledgeable about everything. They'll give you a run down and help you get the perfect meal for you. I've also been to 2 wine dinners and those are amazing. If you have a chance you should attend one.
We had a lovely experience and the menu reflects our options as on Thursday Oct28th. Our waitress Allison was exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and the tastes of diners. We ordered the following Starters: Salumi Misti and Porchetta open faced sandwich. Primi: Roast pork special on a bed of Spaetzle and spinach, topped with fruit and mustard($48) As well as the Tagliolini. The stars were the Porchetta sandwich for its balance of bitter greens and that divine fig/pear jam with salty pork on crusty bread. The second was the Taglioni- the depth of flavor from porcini mushrooms was wonderful and so fragrant, and the pasta had the lightest toothy texture while being rich-if given the chance, Id have it daily. I didnt enjoy the pork roast( but thats personal preference)1. because of the smoked flavor and 2. The flavors/textures of the pasta easily outshine everything else! We didnt even make it to dessert as everything else was so filling but next time- I would likely order one of each pasta and wear loose/casual clothes! As soon as we can snag another seat, we will be back!!!!
We finally got lucky with a reservation after trying for over a year, and let me just say it was absolutely worth the wait. This place delivers an outstanding Italian dining experience. The setting is cozy and intimate, making it perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, or date nights. Our server, Allison, was warm, knowledgeable, and attentive. She described the menu so well that we were tempted to order everything she mentioned. Her wine recommendation, the Staccato, was honestly one of the best I’ve had. We went with a four-course meal, and every dish was spot on. The focaccia bread is a must-try, the supplì was a perfect start, the tajarin pasta was incredible, and we ended with the torta tenerina, which was the sweetest finish. I also loved that their menu changes slightly every day, they hand you a menu card dated for that day, which makes it feel extra special. The attention to detail here is phenomenal. If you get the chance, treat yourself, you won’t regret it ☺️
Finally nabbed a reservation just in time for our anniversary. We made it a lavish 4 course meal and our waiter Scott was so professional and informative, helping us enjoy every minute of it. You absolutely cannot skip the bread and butter, and I will be heartbroken if I return and the fried squash blossoms aren’t on the menu. The other standout was the torta di pistachio dessert which took me to another plane of existence with every bite. But honestly, the entire meal was excellent. We never felt rushed and we will definitely be back.
So happy that Denton has this gem of a spot. Reservations are tricky to land, but you’ll be pleased when you get one! Our experience was securing their same-day Pasta Table bar-style seating. Full service and menu with the bonus of a tucked away corner to celebrate our anniversary. Food was fresh and delicious! Can’t wait to go back.
Might be difficult to get a reservation with the limited dining availability, but it's definitely worth it to come and experience at least once. The bread and butter is their bread and butter, but everything we ordered was fantastic. The tri tip was the special for the day and was cooked to perfection. The Agnolotti was primo and delicious. Everything we had for dessert was worth trying, but the lemon poppy seed bombolini was the consensus favorite, so I recommend. Good food with a nice environment and exceptionally friendly service, 10/10
Great food! Worth the tricky reservation process. Everything we tried was really delicious. The sourdough focaccia to start off with was really great. The offerings were flavorful and decadent. Would definitely come back and try different seasonal items. Looking forward to new offerings! Service was wonderful and I loved the recommendations. Manager was attentive and kind.
Incredible food and service. Brie did a fantastic job giving us the run-down of the menu and making the evening so special for us! Every dish we had was so thoughtfully created. Our favorite dishes were the Triangoli with black truffles (triangle-shaped pasta) and the focaccia bread starter. We will definitely be back!
There is not a single doubt in my mind that this is one of the best dining experiences in all of the DFW area. It’s a quiet and unassuming exterior that is matched by its small and intimate indoor atmosphere . The servers are as attentive as they are knowledgeable as they guide you through what is largely a very unique food experience. Me and my partner are not culinary connoisseur by any means, so we were largely confused by just about everything on the menu (or at least I was). Though it was all okay, our waitress was beyond wonderful and it was made abundantly clear to the both of us that there is a high standard for excellence here. The food was genuinely perfect. A great mix of interesting and unique mixes that was so fun to experience. We will absolutely be back. Me and my partner have not stopped talking about it since. We agreed this is our favorite restaurant we have ever visited.
Enjoyed the food, but a couple things are off to me. The waitress comes by the table way too much. This happened both times I went with two different waitresses. It is obtrusive service that takes away from your enjoyment of the food. Also, both times I felt the service was rushed. I got the sense that they wanted us out ASAP. Again, this takes away from you enjoying the food. The tables are too close to one another, especially those for two people. For the triple digit price for a nice meal here, I feel like the service should be less rushed so food can be savored. The atmosphere is lacking as well. Due to these reasons, I don't think I would come back even though I enjoyed the food. I would rather go somewhere else with better service and environment.
Super small space- really cozy and quaint. Our server was fantastic! However, the food came out barely warm. I’m not sure why it wasn’t hotter when it arrived at the table. The manager came to our table at the end, and I told him the food was good but that I would have liked it to be hotter when it was served. All he did was thank me for the feedback. I honestly don’t think this place is really worth the hype and upon reflection I think they likely get away with alot due to the hype. Is the food good? Yes. Is it amazing, OMG the best place ever, I would love to come back? No. But that’s just my opinion.
Nice Ambiance, Fresh Ingredients—But Lacking a Wow Factor We had been looking forward to trying this restaurant for quite some time, and finally scored a reservation for a double date. We went with friends who are Italian, and between the four of us, we ordered nearly everything on the menu—except the risotto, due to an allergy. The overall vibe of the restaurant is lovely: it’s small, cozy, and charming, with a beautiful little garden in the back where they grow many of their own ingredients. Everything is made from scratch daily, and you can tell they really care about freshness and quality. Major points for that. That said, the food itself was just okay. Everything was prepared well—pastas were cooked properly, sauces were balanced—but nothing really stood out. There was no “wow” dish that made us feel like we were having a truly memorable meal. It was all… fine. Not bad by any means, just not exceptional. The wine list was also underwhelming, which was disappointing for a place that clearly puts effort into their concept. Would I go back? Probably not, especially given how hard it was to get a reservation. It’s a cute spot and a nice experience for a date night, but for us, it didn’t live up to the hype.
