This place is a great spot to meet up with people. They have ample indoor and outdoor seating, and a large selection of baked goods and coffee drinks. They even have some vegan baked goods including 3 vegan cupcake flavors, vegan truffles, vegan chocolate cake, and vegan granola bar.
Fantastic bakery & coffee shop. The tiramisu (pictured) is melt in your mouth delicious. Have tried their iced cookies, huge cookies like ginger, choco chip, snickerdoodle & more, amazing cupcakes in at least a dozen flavors, a $5 big slice of Drown Your Feelings cake...great deal!!! Oh the coffee is pretty good too!! 😋 Plenty of indoor & outdoor tables, chairs & furniture & tons of people chatting and working. Very relaxed vibe. Check website as they often have live music & other cool events.
Hands down, my favorite coffee shop in Austin. Some of the best pastries and pies and ALWAYS a good time where it’s a catch-up with friends or study time!
First time here, loved the choc chip pumpkin muffin, girls who worked the counter were very nice :)
Warm and welcoming atmosphere when you walk in, but then I realized Its interior reminds me of Kickbutt Coffee on airport with a handful of cafe seating with a secondary area more like a comedy club. I was expecting karaoke to start at any moment. Def not the charm of the OG Quacks, but the pastries seem nearly as good and the coffee is familiar. The service was super prompt and patient.
This and the original 43rd location are Austin staples. Part coffeeshop, part bakery, part show/event venue, part community center of sorts - I find myself here frequently, and I'm thankful for the time spent within these walls every time.
I had been dreaming about an almond croissant but couldn’t find a bakery that sold them! They have the classics like danishes, brownies, and almond croissants. It was delicious and everything I had been dreaming of.
I love this place. It is a truly unique location that is laid back and always seems to have a great mix playing. The selection of pastries has never disappointed, and the coffee drinks are great. I really love the stage area and the bar. I'm hoping to take more advantage of the activities here as well as the full bar after hours.
Captain Quack's has become our go-to spot for a relaxed end to the week, especially for our little "happy hour" after school on Fridays. We usually grab some of their delicious baked treats while the kids chat about their week. The croissants are a personal favorite, perfectly flaky, and the tiramisu is a must-try. The kids can't get enough of the cupcakes, either. Their coffee is consistently good and does the job, but what really makes this place special is how much effort they put into being a hub for the community. Their event calendar is packed with something nearly every night—whether it’s standup comedy, film screenings, trivia, or book clubs, there’s always a reason to come back. They’ve really succeeded in creating that "third place" where you can feel connected and a part of something. If you're in South Austin, it’s definitely worth making a stop here and supporting a local spot that truly cares about the people it serves.
Coffees and baked goods are great! This place is busy and can have long lines, but I see why! There was a vegan lemon blueberry cupcake… delicious 😋
Stumbled about Quacks while visiting Austin this weekend. All the staff behind the counter were incredibly patient explaining the baked goods and coffee options. The barista did not bat an eye when I made a reference to corporate coffee flavors. Because we visited in the afternoon Sunday, we were able to take advantage of the buy one get one free special for one part of the pastry case. The coffee was mixed well and the pastries we ordered the right amount of flavor and sugar. Clean restrooms a plus! We’ll be back next time in town.
Always have a good experience here with coffee baristas and bartenders! Love the chai!
Super chill spot, good coffee and pastries. I like that they have a variety of different areas to sit (bar area, cafe area, patio area) with plenty of parking. I usually come here in the evening for a change of scenery while I work. Looking forward to the day I am able to chill on the bar side with a beer and play trivia. =)
One of my favorite places. every food/drink I've ever tried has been good here (and the Hyde Park location). Good service. I recently checked out their DJ night and the whole Soundspace area and bar is also very cool. There was a little back area outside too with a vendors market. Great vibes
Absolutely love this place. They have the best cakes and pastries. Their coffee and drinks are always well made. Their staff is friendly and helpful. It’s seriously one of the best coffeehouses / bakeries in town. This location in particular is really great even compared to their others.
I love this place! The servers are kind and eager to assist. They are invested in the local community…. Free cookies and decorating for the neighborhood events such as parades. They have an interesting and eclectic sound stage. And… the decor is fun! Overall great experience. Try their key lime pie and chai tea for a real treat!
Delicious coffee. Spacious (always plenty of tables to sit and work at when I come midday during the week). They have so many delicious pastries, but my favorite has to be the chocolate cream pie! Staff are always very friendly. Sometimes the music choices aren't the best to study/work to, but that's only every so often.
My wife and I stop by Captain Quack’s to grab coffee and a scone or muffin before garage sale hunting. They have a wide pastry selection and tons of fun seasonal cookies and cakes. The location on Menchaca is convenient, and the parking lot is ample.
Love coming here! The mini cheesecakes are my favorite, love when they do seasonal stuff!
Love the bakery and variety, the sandwiches, the prices, and the events offered here. It's an amazing and entertaining local community spot. I want to say a huge shout out to Ollie who makes the best chai every time I come in, I'm always glad and grateful to see them behind the counter when I go in!
Really great coffee- my favorite drink however is the iced Yerba Mate that has pineapple in it. My boyfriend and I stopped here before running errands and it was great. The baristas are sweet, the quality of the food and drinks are superb, the quickness of service was great too. There's so many things to do here, I definitely want to come back for a trivia night or something.
I wasn't looking to throw a big celebration for my birthday, so I kept it low-key with just a small gathering of my friend and me. We chose Quack's because they have the best coffee cake—my all-time favorite! Plus, they offer gluten-free options for my friend, which is a big plus. The drinks were amazing, and the food was super delicious with so many yummy choices to savor. Honestly, the vibe was just fantastic! It was the perfect way to celebrate!
I found this place on Yelp while on a mission to find a place with delicious desserts that I could could grab and go. This was the perfect place! Even though I went there in the afternoon, the bakery cases (yes, cases!) were full of an amazing variety of delicious goodies. I went in there looking to get one dessert and left with a bagful. I got a mocha mini cupcake, Nutella thumbprint cookies, a chocolate twist, snickerdoodle, chocolate eclair and a sugar cinnamon bun. Everything was so yummy and the portions are great. My mother told me she meant to have a piece of the snickerdoodle as a pre-dinner snack, but instead ate the whole thing and was too full for dinner :) I can't wait to go back and stuff my face with more of their treats. The Covid precautions here are really good - there is curbside pickup, no indoor dining, there are markers on the floor to keep customers 6 feet apart and hand sanitizer by the door. There are tables and chairs outside for outdoor dining. BTW: Last year, I got Thanksgiving cookies from their other location and they were the perfect decor piece. And they were really tasty, even several days after the holiday.
Good coffee and pastries. Has shows in the evenings. The Lip Shitch comedy show was fun.
Delicious coffee, alternative milks, beautiful baked goods, perfect Austin atmosphere and a WONDERFUL back patio with shade!
Without a doubt one of my favorite coffee shops in town, with the best triple chocolate cake. My new go to is combining their horchata with coffee to go with my cake slice. Friendly staff, good atmosphere and delicious pastries!
Super chill place to read/work from on a weekday with plenty of tables and seating. Bakery is top-notch as usual. Ordered the cranberry orange scone and raspberry thumbprint cookie, as well as an Americano with a splash of milk. Enjoyed it all!

This place is a vibe. No gluten free bakery options, but they do have vegan options. Delicious. Service is just as great. They offer free Wi-Fi and I don't think you have to buy anything to chill. I love the seasonal bakery items.
Quacks is the best! Their baked goods are for sure the main attraction, but the coffee and drinks are also really great. A staple of south Austin!
This is my favorite cafe in the area! I like to go to cafes to work on my laptop, journal, read, and catch up with friends. This place is just lowkey enough that it’s not packed but still has atmosphere. The music is always on point which is so important to me. The coffee is tasty (I have high standards… and love the dirty Chai). There’s indoor and outdoor seating. They also have events here often, which sound cool but I haven’t checked any out. My ONLY complaint is that there is not much access to outlets, which can be important when working on your laptop. I recommend bringing a portable charger.
I just love this place so much. The staff is always helpful and they even help me by checking the baked goods I ask about for my corn allergy. Most people are annoyed when I have to ask to check but they’re happy to help and I never feel like they’re put off by the request. That vegan chocolate muffin is heavenly and I can’t even recreate that delight at home no matter how much I try. It’s worth it to drive there and order it. I LOVE their cold brew, oh my gosh I crave that often too. I drink it black and I can taste the natural chocolatey caramel-like undertones. I can’t stand citrus like or floral notes in my coffee so this cold brew totally hits the spot with subtly soft sweet undertones. This place also offers a lot of events, which I’ve yet to go to and I want to. But i love the options and hope to attend one of the events soon.
Cute little bistro remnant of a 90s poetry house on the west coast. Peanut butter ganache on chocolate cupcakes is fantastic.

I think this place is the cutest. So quirky and fun. It's rather big inside and the staff was really friendly. My art group had a meet-up here and I could tell it was a really popular place. Full of people and seems like the family neighborhood spot. My coffee was good but the only reason I don't give 5 stars is because my cookie tasted like flour but it was a really cute little cookie well designed. That won't stop me from going back and giving another cookie a chance.
Quite fond of this place, but I don't think I've ever been here without a wobbly table spilling a third of my coffee the second I sit down. You can't have ALL of your tables wobbly, dude! But if this is a wacky theme meant to annoy people then I'm all for it.
Very cool place. LGBTQ+ friendly. Love that. Bakery on one side and bar/venue on the other!
I'll definitely return here. Their desserts look incredibly delicious, especially the "Eat My Feelings" one, which called to me. I'll have to come back just to try that one out. The cheese danishes we purchased were perfection. I had mine the next day, reheated it, and it was still delicious. The cream in the middle was just right--neither too dry nor too moist--and the Danish part was wonderfully flaky. Not to mention it was also massive. They also host events there, like the lively trivia night we saw during our visit. This place looks fantastic, and I'll be back to try more items from the menu. I'll be sure to update my review afterwards.

I like the baked goods but the espresso is one of the most bitter Ive had in my life.
I’ve been coming here for quite some time, and it always was great service and pastry quality, the last two times I went in and ordered eclairs and cupcakes, the eclairs were all stale, the cream inside was hard, and the dough was also hard and stale. When I brought it up to the manager over the phone after it happened for the second time in a row, she said ‘okay I’ll let the bakers know’. I was not offered any sort of recompense. I went in today and walked out cause I remembered that they never helped me out with their mistake last time. Spent easily $20 on stale eclairs and nothing was done to fix it. Thumbs down. 👎
Food was ok at best, definitely below my high expectations given overall rating, and very expensive. $18 plus tip for two croissants and two cortados make it not worth repeating. The chocolate croissant was the biggest letdown, as was the l
Ginger cookie was good. Oatmeal cookie was bland and a little dry. Blueberry almond coffee cake had almost no blueberry flavor. The muffin is a Glory something, forgot the name. Smells delicious. Haven’t tasted yet.

How is this place rated so well? We didn't try their coffees, but their baked goods were abysmal. The chocolate and the almond croissants barely had anything inside and were dry, and the cheese danish was completely unremarkable. I prefer Costco's baked goods for less money and better quality. The search for a good bakery in Austin continues...
I live right by, and have been coming since they opened. It’s continuing to go down. Or showed up for events that were never canceled, but where the organizers never showed up. I’ve ordered baked goods and been given FROZEN cake. The coffee is often burned.. Once I tried to order cupcakes from a birthday Only to find out they only bake once a week, so I’d be paying for week old cupcakes. Today I ordered a hot chia dirty, it wasn’t hot, and tasted like cinnamon water, watered down. The food just isn’t worth it. It’s all made up north, never fresh, over priced, and the staff are usually unfriendly.

There are, amazingly, three coffee shops that share their parking lot, so this place needs to up their game. We were disappointed in the food (worst scone ever) and my coffee got cold on the counter before we got it. Hibiscus tea so much better at Dear Austin. The “quiet room” was full of scowling grumps making for a terrible atmosphere. Regular area was way too small and dominated by a self-important bigmouth on his phone - you couldn’t escape him even at the farthest table in the quiet room. But the worst thing was the No Dogs Allowed policy for their back patio. The previous tenants, Strange Brew, always let happy dogs and their humans enjoy that area. So much potential wasted it makes me sad.
This is the worst coffeehouse experience I have ever had. The barista followed us around while we were browsing the baked goods. She stared at us with a nasty look on her face and did not smile once. We begrudgingly ordered two lattes and 2 muffins that tasted like what I expect a dirty bathroom floor to taste like. No sweetness in the lattes despite it being described as sweet and it was mostly ice. There was also a hint of burnt espresso. The muffins were even more sad. They tasted RAW and after finding out they only bake the goods once a week, we were afraid of mold growth due to how moist they were. The cases they were being kept in had no refrigeration so we threw the muffins out. If i were you, I’d stay away from the coffeehouse portion of the business (they also have an event section). Take your money elsewhere and support a mom and pop shop. The photo is of the strawberry muffin. Disgusting and soggy.
We come to this bakery often and have ordered chocolate pie and cakes for birthdays. Today I walked in and got a slice of pie when it was given to me, it looked like it was just a pile of mush. I asked if I could have another slice that would hold up a bit better. The employees at the front looked at each other and just smirked. I’m not sure if she got a new slice or if she tried to fixed the slice of pie that she already gave me. The whipped cream looks like it curled and the pie was melted.

While I was deciding which cupcake I wanted, the cashier was counting change (with her hands). She stood there counting and waiting for me to order. Once I was ready, I made my order. The same cashier that was touching gross money is now grabbing a plastic container with those same fingers. She then reaches in the case with those same nasty fingers and grabs my cupcake to place in the plastic container. I paid $4 for a tiny cupcake the size of a golf ball just to throw it out. It was my birthday and I just wanted some cake not a disease to go with it.
