Opinions de Carpenters Hall Austin
Fantastic place for my Sunday brunch this morning. Food and server (Lianna C) and hosts/servers (Allison, Cameron, Jordan and more) were all wonderful. Beautiful environment, and the hotel grounds and adjoining coffee shop offer additional, splendid goodness. Highly recommended!
Absolutely love the environment here. The menu is small but we really enjoyed everything we ordered. Service was great as well.
Danny & Sarina were absolutely amazing bartenders — super friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better! Their service was warm and welcoming, and they really made us feel taken care of from start to finish. I highly recommend stopping by Carpenters Hall for brunch and asking for them — they’ll make sure you have a great time! ♥️
Visited for brunch and the shakshuka was wonderful! The atmosphere is also fantastic - bright and sunny with cool decor.
Carpenter Hall Restaurant is delicious with great service! Omar was our server, and he was fantastic. We got a salad, chicken sandwich, and kid’s cheeseburger. The weather was nice, and we ate on the patio. It was relaxing and peaceful. Beautiful inside seating and bar area. I highly recommend coming here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Stepping into Carpenters Hall in Austin, Texas, feels like entering a culinary wonderland where comfort and innovation waltz hand in hand. It's not just a restaurant; it's a stage where simple dishes take center spotlight and undergo a metamorphosis into extraordinary creations. The ambiance is a stylish ode to Austin's contemporary spirit, resonating with a vibe that's both chic and welcoming. Each dish served here is like a story unfolding on the plate, where traditional comfort food gets a gourmet makeover, revealing layers of flavor that surprise and delight. Now, let me share a tale about the impeccable service that wrapped around me like a familiar embrace the moment I walked through the door. The greeting was not just a formality; it was a genuine welcome, setting the tone for an exceptional dining experience. The coffee bar, a hidden gem within the restaurant, offered a haven for caffeine enthusiasts, adding an extra layer of warmth to the atmosphere. And then, there's Luke at the bar—a maestro of mixology and a true gem in the hospitality crown. His service is not just about delivering drinks; it's about crafting an experience, making you feel like you're not just a guest but a cherished friend. Luke's personable touch adds a layer of personality to the dining experience, turning it into a conversation rather than a mere transaction. In a world where dining out is often about more than just the food, Carpenters Hall stands out as a destination where every element, from the dishes to the service, is carefully curated to provide a unique and memorable journey. It's not just a restaurant; it's a testament to the art of hospitality, where comfort is not just elevated but transformed into a symphony of flavors and genuine connections.
Absolutely fantastic experience, starting from the moment I reached out to get a last minute reservation for the Thanksgiving dinner. Considering what a busy day it was I’m very grateful they went above and beyond to help us get a table. We first spend some time at the bar with some very nice cocktails, which was a really nice way to get settled in and enjoy the ambiance of this lovely renovated community center. I love the lighting. It’s warm and cozy. What a great place to be! At the table we were greeted by our waiter JC who made sure we were comfortable at all times. The set menu started with a great butternut squash soup and a large plate of very delicious Brussels sprouts. For the main, we went with the pork loin. Pork is a litmus test. It can be either really good or really bad. This one was fantastic! Succulent and flavorful. Concerning the sides, the Palmer fluffy bread and butter was my favorite, followed by the Oyster mushrooms. It all worked very well together, also the wine pairing for each of the dishes. A fitting highlight was the pumpkin ice cream desert with crumble, paired with a glass of Tokaji. Overall we spent a fantastic Thanksgiving here and I’m very grateful we got the opportunity! If I had to give any kind of feedback, I would have hoped for a short introduction of each wine, its origins, how it pairs with the food.
This was my first time coming here and I will definitely be back! We came for brunch on a Saturday at 11 with reservations but it wasn’t very busy until closer to 12 anyways. Loved the style of the inside and outside. Wonderful staff! Our food was delicious and I want to try their other menus as well.
Jake, our chef, knocked it out of the park for our first visit. We tried the Scallion Biscuits, Charred Romaine, Poached Cod, Roasted Lamb, Shishito Peppers, and Pork Belly lettuce wrap. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and a welcome surprise to our palate. Highly recommend. Laura, our server, was engaging, knowledgeable, and a joy. We'll be back for sure.
Carpenters Hall belongs on every list it’s made! The meal was amazing, we had the burger, the breakfast sandwich, some corn and lattes. Everything was perfectly cooked, and the fries with garlic mayo were to die for. The ambiance of the restaurant is very well thought out, we sat outside on the patio but the inside of the restaurant was really pretty too! All in all, great spot for brunch (and I’m sure other meals too)! Cant wait to go back!
Fun and stylish place just south of the river. The food was very tasty. My only complaint is that the hatch chili potatoes were not very flavorful and were hard. The sangria was delicious. The latte was okay but very small. We asked about the history of the place since we work in the labor movement and were very curious about the union history of the location. We got some facts but it would be so cool to add more about the history of the union hall. The decor and shop had big Marfa’s El Cosmico vibes so it attracts those kinds of patrons. Overall, really great spot that stands out even in a city like Austin that is full of hip, aesthetic places.
Carpenter Hall is simply perfection! Food, service, atmosphere are all excellent. Espresso martini, their famous burger, crispy oyster mushrooms, salad are all very tasty and the experience is just fabulous. Their small plates are not small at all, pretty decent portions to be shared. I do love their design aesthetic throughout the hotel and the restaurant. I will definitely go back.

A tasteful, thoughtful, and well executed “Austin” concept. I was lucky enough to meet Chef Johnny and be served by Nikki. I wanted somewhere calm. Somewhere beautiful. I wanted food that tasted as good as it looked - and I felt good after eating it. Carpenter Hall delivered on all fronts Great vibes. Great thoughtful well executed food. Wonderful and friendly staff. I got the best riff on “Austin Humus” I have ever had. Get the humus. It is a great example of how understated, nuanced, and yes technical this chef is. The flavor is complex and new, yet perfectly in balance with the flavors that it’s honoring. (That chili oil… they should be selling THAT in the souvenir shop! Sooooo good I wish I could take some home). I also had the Carpenter salad with shrimp. Nikki advised the shrimp and she nailed it. I finished with fresh made iced latte to go. A delicious restaurant with espresso for after the meal?! Yay!!!!!!! Update: I may have a problem. I am totally addicted to the humus with Chef Johnny’s chili oil. This place is just so good. I need to come back for a proper meal. I have my eye on that roast chicken dish… Also - ASK. FOR. LAURA. Exceptional service from an amazing server. Update two: finally had dinner. Took Laura’s suggestions and finally had a proper meal — Started with summer squash salad (I will prob come back for this as a wonderful light meal on its own), the cheese tray with those wonderful cherries that the house makes, I loved my chicken which was cooked perfectly (it tasted fried even though Kt was roasted - I snuck a side of the chili oil from th humus yummmm) and my companion enjoyed his scallops with spicy carrot risotto. We left happy and full. We were once again given impeccable service by Laura. Update: I adore turning the starters into my meal here - I am always obsessed with the humus, but my keto heart was in love with the house made chicharrones (they were actually crackling and popping still as they were set down, you can hear it in the video!). This time I was with a vegetarian friend who was in love with the roasted mushrooms.

One of the best brunch meals I’ve had in Austin! The hash browns with the spicy golden beet ketchup were out of this world delicious. We also had (and thoroughly enjoyed!) the labneh and feta dip, migas scramble, grain bowl, pancakes, and Carpenter Breakfast. On the drinks side - big fan of the blood orange mimosa and Ladybird latte (rosemary + orange flavors) with oat milk. Yummm!
One of the best burgers I have eaten, and I am glad we found this place. It’s a simple burger made with quality ingredients and executed perfectly. It’s two diner style smashed patties, which are the best way to do burgers in my opinion, with a homemade bun and a few toppings along with some great fries. The price is not the cheapest, but it’s easily worth it for the quality of the food. The outside dining is a nice relaxing space and our server was very nice. Overall a 10/10 experience all around. Highly recommend.
Carpenter's Hall in Austin is a gem! It's got a cozy vibe and the food is all about local ingredients and delicious twists. The place itself feels historic and cool, perfect for hanging out or celebrating with friends. The service is super friendly too, making it a spot you'll want to come back to.
I’m in town solo on a work trip and really enjoyed my experience at this property and its onsite restaurant. The ambiance is warm and welcoming — a great place to relax after a long day. The food was delicious and the drinks were well made. Everything felt thoughtful and high quality. Danny, the bartender, truly stood out. He was attentive and friendly with me, answering all my questions and making great recommendations. What impressed me most was how attentive he was to the entire bar. Even when it was full, he made sure everyone felt seen and taken care of. Great experience overall. I’d definitely come back next time I’m in town.
The steak frites were absolutely perfect—tender, flavorful, and cooked just right, with crispy fries that complemented the dish beautifully. Danny, the bartender, made the experience even better with outstanding service. He was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was spot on. Great food, great drinks, and top-tier hospitality. I’ll definitely be back!
Stopped by Carpenters Hall and had a great time! The food was excellent, everything was fresh and perfectly prepared. The service is also top-tier. Danny has such a great presence and really makes the experience feel special. It’s hard to find that kind of attentiveness nowadays. Highly recommend!
The restaurant is very nice and relaxing. Danny the bartender is very kind and makes great cocktails. His espresso Martini looks beautiful, but wait until you taste it! I had the double cheeseburger and fries for lunch and it did not disappoint!
This place is awesome! Our server Jordan was phenomenal. She was personable, professional, made us feel very comfortable and helped make the experience great. The food was really good and that back patio is so nice. We highly recommend and will be back!
First and foremost, Danny, our bartender, is a star. He was busy with a full bar, 6 tickets in the well, and still made us feel welcomed. Amazing service. Drinks were solid. Will be back for him.

I was surprised by the gem lettuce salad. Smooth, salty, creamy, with a slight sharpness that all really worked well. I actually DM'd them for the recipe but they haven't responded. The schnitzel is really good. Be warned: this is a two-person portion size. The meat is moist while the breading is crunchy. The fries had good crispness too. Overall this was a good meal, priced as expected for a hotel, but still very good.
Carpenter’s Hall was a nice experience with friends. The ambience was great, and our waitress was pleasant. I’d recommend checking it out. The latte I ordered was a bit pricey and sort of fell flat. Maybe their other coffees are better. I ordered the Shakshuka, and it was great. The eggs came perfect and it had a good blend of spices. It’s a good twist on the dish with a decent portion size.

The drinks were just ok. The food was average, but the cucumbers were amazing! Overall, not worth the price point The dirty carpenter: it was ok Another one: just ok Beso Verde: good Slow burn: good Waco red wheat potato rolls: very fresh and the butter is good Chowder: just ok, nothing special Texas Wagyu Tartare: the tartare and the fries were excellent. However, there was very little tartare specially for the price and there was nothing to dip with Hudson valley foie gras: it was a pate, I guess I missed that part, so that was a surprise. It was very good but I just feel bad for doing this to the most delicate protein! Dilled cucumbers: it was AMAZING! It had some much flavor. I will come back for that specifically! Though, $15 for cucumbers?! Chocolate Tart: very rich, though, we didn’t care for the coconut whip cream, it tasted watered down
This review is for the restaurant only. Super cute space and the food was decent. The patio is dog friendly. My biggest let down was our waiter. He completely left something off my friend's order and didn't offer to correct it. My friend had to ask twice to make sure she wasn't charged for it. He never refilled our drinks. We ask two other servers for refills. One forgot and the second finally grabbed our waiter and even then he forgot one of the drinks. Later, he tried to serve drinks to us that were meant for the table next to us. We also noticed the table next to us was seated quite a bit after us and was served their meal before us. I should note they had a different waiter than us. If you read some of the reviews there are some that may comments on the attention of their wait staff. I don't know if it's attributed to a single server or if there are multiple servers having issues. Either way, management should consider reviewing and discussing with staff. More and more people are choosing to dine out and service (and quality of food, but that isn't the case here) can make or break a restaurant. I wouldn't normally take off two stars, but the restaurant wasn't busy. Honestly, the guy looked extremely tired and maybe I shouldn't fault the restaurant for that. However, we asked two other wait staff for assistance and they just put it back on our waiter instead of helping versus wiping down empty tables that weren't even being ready for patrons since it wasn't busy. I would definitely give it another try here with the hope that the service is a little better next time. We had the crispy oyster mushrooms, very good. Cashew queso, that was okay. It's more like an extra creamy onion dip with a queso consistency. So calling it queso is a little misleading, but it was still decent. I ordered the pancakes. They were delicious. Just be aware that no syrup is served with the pancakes or maybe my waiter forgot it, however, I didn't mind since I don't care for syrup that much and they were still delicious without it. My friend had the egg sammie and she said it was decent but difficult to eat in the sandwich form. The chili hatch home fries didn't have any "hatch" to them, but they were decent. They were just essentially home fries not hatch chili home fries. Again, I'm not sure if something was left off or if that's how they are actually prepared. Overall, I really wanted to enjoy this meal, but service really was lacking.
unfortunately i am not coming back here… the hostess did not give us eye contact and did not even say hello. our server rushed us while my husband was still chewing his food asking us if we needed anything else to remove our plates. i told her “he is still eating so we are still hanging out” - the place was almost empty so they were not busy to “justify” their behavior. when we left the hostess again did not give eye contact and did not say thank you or goodbye. i felt unwelcome and uncomfortable with such attitude specially being a tourist. if you are in the restaurant/service industry you have one job: make your guest feel welcome and let them eat at their own pace.
