BEST BURGERS IN AUSTIN!! I always take everyone here when I’m visiting and it always hits. The food takes a while, but so worth the wait. Love the dive bar feel, everyone is so nice and the buffalo burger is a must order. Cheese curds also slap 🔥
The burgers here are unreal, time and time again. Try to get a different one every time and I don't know what magic they're putting into them back there, but definitely worth trying! Also fun sitting up on the top balcony and watching everything below! Recommended!
I seek out good burgers. I have a long list of my favorites. I check out the unexpected places and the expected places. I get the cheap ones, and I have bought the expensive ones occasionally. This place took over my top spot. It was magical. It was unexpected. It was worth every penny. My wife and I visited Austin, and our friends who lived there knew I sought out good burgers, and he said he had just the place. After reading this review, the outdoor sign might give you pause. When you walk in, you might second guess me again. The fact that you are ordering from a walk-up window probably will have you re-reading this to make sure you have the right place. Trust me. You are in the right place. Sort of a bonus if you like divey places overall, but then, when you are hungry after a couple of drinks, you will NOT need to leave the premises for your fancy tablecloth place somewhere. You would be insulting your taste buds and stomach if you DID leave. The mac and cheese app was awesome, the fries were tasty, and DEFINITELY ask for the hot sauce from the window. They had a magical hot sauce in the back that made my meal. Know that they have different levels. I got the hottest one that made the guy in the back raise his eyebrows a little. I definitely don't look like a guy who can handle the hottest sauces. The place. TV's for sports. Two pool tables upstairs in a very cool area. Great service by the bartenders. Energetic vibe overall. But, although the place overall is a really cool spot, and maybe you will go for that alone (which would still be a winning choice), the burger will floor you. Oh yeah, I had the Madison Burger as my choice. But, I ate the other half of my wife's burger, and that was legit too. Bring a microphone so you can drop it after the meal. I highly recommend this place, and see you there (the next time we are in Austin, it will be one of my first stops)...
Good solid dive bar in Austin, the locals and patrons seem cool has a rock bar like vibe. Some draught beers and a decent amount of seating. Pretty dark upstairs but adds to the vibe
Me and my family came here because Guy Fieri was here! I wish there was more lighting in this place and I don’t like that they don’t do table service. You have to go to the counter to order your food. Other than that my experience was really good there. My Chicago Burger was amazing, so were the fries, and my margarita!!! The staff there is very welcoming and friendly! Eric one of the bartenders was super sweet, friendly, and welcoming!!! Thank you guys for a great first experience here!!!! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!
I’ve been coming here for 10+ years and never disappoints. The Amarillo burger is just spicy enough to be good and not overpowering. The strawberry cheesecake empanada is a must have
I travel for a living. I rate burgers as a hobby. I am a self-proclaimed connoisseur. I drive rock stars across the USA and Canada to their rock shows. When in Austin, Casino El Camino is THE place to get a TASTY BURGER. 3/4 pound patties, cooked like a BOSS. Ya can't go wrong here. Just trust me. Only place that can compete with these burgers is Coaches Corner in Covington, KY
Highly recommend the Madison. Great place to come to if you’re visiting Austin like we are. Great prices for what you get, the burgers are huge. Delicious food and I love the rockabilly vibes. 10/10- happy Canadian. Shout out to out Lyft driver David for telling us to come here and helping us out, he’s the goat
The best burger in Austin. Perhaps the best in Texas. The meat comes from grass fed cattle and is ground daily. Yes, you can order your burger medium rare! They offer 4 type of buns. Funky dark atmosphere. Great juke box. You gotta check this place out.
One of Austin's classic "Austin Bars" ! It's my favorite go to place for a cool Austin experience and food. The food and the burgers are the best in Austin. That's right, this is the best burger in Austin. The bartenders are long time employees there. As an Austinite, these guys are super cool!! Always kind and friendly! They remember locals walking in the door! When non locals come in to see this legendary place, they treat everyone as someone special! Get a burger!!
A unique old school dive bar and counter order food service. This burger comes highly recommended and is considered by many to be top ten in Austin. We ordered 2 burgers, both had large patties and were cooked perfectly to order. I was not overly impressed and thought it lacked in flavor. The meat was under seasoned and the condiments were bland. We tried the cheese curds, and found them to be mediocre. The drinks are typical baseline 6th street drinks.
If you’re in Austin and even thinking about grabbing a burger, stop searching and head straight to Casino El Camino. My daughter and I just had the Chicago and KC burgers, and I can honestly say they’re among the best burgers we’ve ever had — anywhere. The moment you walk in, the place hits you with that unmistakable Austin character: dim lighting, rock‑and‑roll attitude, and a bar that feels lived‑in in the best possible way. It’s the kind of spot where you instantly know the food is going to be legit. And it absolutely is.
The best food downtown. By far. Heads up all the burgers default to pink in the center, and if you don’t want that, TELL THEM. They will make it quickly how you want it. I told them well done aka “hockey puck” style, and they nailed it. They will also mess with you as you order, it’s part of the charm. Don’t be turned off by the rough around the edges charm. This place is a treasure of delicious food and the king of buffalo sauce. Also, they have the best cranberry juice I’ve ever had. TBH I’d have casino el Camino cater my wedding if they’d do it.
Casinos is a 6th St staple! The vibes check you at the door and you're in for a helluva good time. The top off is the kitchen. Zack’s food is a must, the best burgers & fries in town!! Bonus is that they also have gluten free and veggie options across the menu. Be sure to stop when you’re stomping downtown!!
We’ve been in for drinks before but tonight had time to try out the food. I have friends who rave about them and I finally get it. The kitchen staff are all super cool & make it fun. I liked watching them mess with the tourists. lol. These are the biggest and best quality burgers I’ve had in years. The bread is fresh, burgers cooked perfectly, and toppings are great. We loved the sweet potato waffle fries with Parm on top! The basket was huge and more than enough to share for 2-3 people. We sat in the back patio & it was a nice little oasis where you didn’t feel like you were in the middle of the city. Can’t wait to go back!
The quality of this burger is unrivaled. The beef itself tastes so fresh and delicious that the toppings are a just a side note, although still equally fresh and delicious! This was my first time back in years and I was so pleasantly surprised that nothing had changed! 🙌 Still delicious, still badass, still authentic Austin. Love this place.
We were visiting for a reunion and this was our 'Hair of the Dog' lunch location. We came to the door and noticed a small pup on a leash inside, and since we had a service dog in our party asked if they could get the owner to contain it while we went by. The bouncer helped us immediately and we trooped in to an upstairs location. Even though it was an off time it was slammed and the music was hopping. Pool tables had games running and the kitchen window had a line. A bartender suggested we try the outside patio for a quieter place to nurse our hangovers and wait for food. We set up several patio tables outside and proceeded to enjoy our cold drinks and a quieter environment. The decorations outside definitely didn't match the interior dive bar vibes but both seemed to flow oddly enough. The only suggestions we would have would be to lower music volume a little longer for food orders being called (it was hard to catch names) and add some misting fans outside. Thanks for treating us to some amazing burgers and brews! It was a treat!
Remember to Tip. Even if your order is to-go. It's worth it. The burger is the truth!! I got the Chicago burger!! The simplicity and quality!! Pattie done well and proper, crispy and juicy too. You can cut the burger into twice and it will hold, that says a lot. Absolutely no unnecessary sauce, still tastes heavenly. Also, I got the wings too and honestly. This is the best Buffalo wings I've had!! The simplicity too. No unnecessary breading, the buffalo sauce remains the best I've had! Only regret was not tipping proper!! Will surely make up for it next time I'm in town. It's an easy 9.7/10

Got the KC burger and it was good, wish I would've tried the buffalo. staff extremely friendly. Old school hole in the wall vibe that I love.
The best hamburger in downtown Austin. Loved the vibe. Service was amazing. I could have stayed all day and enjoyed more food and drinks.

Excellent green chile cheeseburger. You definitely get your money worth! Fun atmosphere to the bar. It feels like you stepped into a Rob Zombie album. Friendly staff.
If you ask people from Austin where to get a good burger in the city, you're going to hear the name Casino El Camino come up a lot. Since 1994, Casino El Camino has been slinging burgers, dogs, sandwiches wings and fries to patrons with beer and shots of Tequila or Jack on the side. Located on 6th Street, not where all the frat boys and millennials hang out, but Dirty Sixth where punk and metal sounds pulse loudly through the speakers even at lunch. I went with friends Sandy and Jeff Putnam, and together we sampled three burgers, wings and verde chili fries. Several of the burgers were recommended by the owner, Casino, who stopped by to say hi while paying a few bills at the bar. He led with the Amarillo, which he said is by far their top seller. All of burgers weigh in at three- quarters of a pound. The Amarillo is covered with roasted Serrano chilis, jalapeño jack cheese and brushed with a cilantro mayo. They suggest putting the burger on a jalapeño cheddar bun, but regular buns are also available. Go with their suggestion! So obviously there is some heat to this choice, but everything works well together. The burger was grilled to medium and the bun held all that beef really well. It was a bit messy with the mayo put on a little too heavy for some but I enjoyed the cilantro taste which was able to shine through the peppery bites. Sandy went with the LA Burger, slightly modified for some health restrictions. BTW for a dive bar they were great in working with things she couldn't eat. Stacked on another large patty, the LA had lettuce, spinach tomatoes and avocado. Condiments on the west coast inspired burger included a lemon vinaigrette and a smoked shallot aioli. I got to try a bite of her choice and I really enjoyed how the aioli tasted with the beef. Her burger was cooked a little less than medium. Sandy felt it needed a little more salt and pepper on it. While I enjoyed the burger, I would probably not order it if I went back. The Pitts Burger might need to be sampled on that visit along with Double Dog Texas Tommy. Back to our final burger, and second recommended by Casino, the Madison Burger. This burger was actually a beer-braised pork belly served with a Shiner Bock gastrique, jalapeño jack cheese, sautéed onions and baconnaise. Jeff and I traded halfs and when I bit into the Madison, I had the same reaction as him, it was very sweet. After the boldness of the peppers on the Amarillo, the sweetness was too much for me. Maybe if I would have had it first I would have enjoyed it more. I wanted my Amarillo half back. Casino said it the second most popular, so give it a try if that is a flavor profile ia something you enjoy. Sandy is a fry connoisseur, and was disappointed they were not hand-cut. I am not a big fry guy, but I tried a bunch of them to see how the verde chili flavoring tasted. Excellent, but I would ask for a side of the sauce to dip them. Not sure if they offer it, but if not, get some of smoked shallot mayo. In talking with Casino he also said they are very traditional in their Buffalo Sauce for the wings - butter and Frank's Red Hot (Anchor Bar would be proud). The wings were large and the sauce was excellent. However the wings themselves were just average. Here is why. I watched the cook drop the raw wings directly into the frier. While there is nothing wrong with that, and yes they were cooked through, they did not have the consistency I like in a non-breaded wing. I prefer wings that have been cooked off first, most often in the oven or even steamed at some places. You get a different feel on the outside and inside the meat falls off the bone better. Again, some people are not as picky as me on wings and the sauce was perfect. All in all, you probably need to try Casino El Camino if you visit Austin. It's a staple downtown that has endured for over three decades. You feel the nostalgia of the place just after you open the front door. Rock on Camino!
Very unique dive bar. It’s like an acid trip in a good way. I knew nothing about this place walking in but it was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and dives. They have a jukebox and were playing old b horror movies. Pool tables upstairs. I wasn’t super hungry and just Got a BLT. There was literally a whole pack of bacon on this thing. The bun was perfectly grilled and the shallot mayo was a nice touch. The big thing to get here are the burgers. My friend got one and it was massive. It was cooked perfectly (Medium unless specified otherwise). Staff was very nice and friendly. There is also a gluten free bun available for $2 extra. I can see this place being very fun after having a few drinks lol. Please enjoy this phone of my friend devouring the burger 🍔

We had a great, huge burger and chicken sandwich for lunch. It is not fast, but they tell you that right away. It is a dive bar with a weird atmosphere for sure, but that is what made it unique.

Casino El Camino is a burger joint trying hard to nail the Austin "weird vibe". It is located conveniently down on 6th street if you are headed out on the town. Parking is a pain, as you might expect. It may be one of the best burgers you can get while wandering 6th street. They have an interesting horror eclectic atmosphere with interesting wall flair and two TV's playing old horror movies. The service is largely non-present as they don't really have table service of any sort. There is a bar, a kitchen, and a bouncer...that's kind of it. Seating is limited for the amount of people coming in. The food varies. Burgers are juicy and large, but I could not really see what made them amazing at $15-$20. The menu makes them sound artisan, but none of our eaters could really tell the difference. Drinks come from the bar and refills on water cost money. There are some gluten free options for buns, though not sure on the contaminants on the grill. We saw a lot of people leaving half, or more, of their burgers uneaten...not sure if that says what people thought of the taste or if it was just too big to eat and run out for a night on 6th street. I would avoid the french fry sides that come smothered in sauce...as they are literally smothered in sauce...eats more like a soup than fries. All in all, our diners thought the place was interesting, but the consensus was that none of them planned to return unless they were down on 6th street and needed a burger before enjoying a laugh at Ester's Follies next door.

This is a dive that wants you to feel it’s a dive. The food was really good. If you like dives, it’s a good atmosphere. Drinks - poor. Attitudes of the staff - poor.

I don’t know if this is a fluke. But I’ve had great food from here every time until NOW. The burger is literally uncooked. I got a Gluten-Free KC burger and verde fries. The Fries were fine but the burger was botched. On a non-busy Thursday night I really don’t get it…

What people say about Casino el Camino
Austin's Legendary Dive: Where Burgers Reign Supreme
There are Austin bars, and then there's Casino el Camino. Nestled in the heart of this city, it's not just a place; it's an institution. Forget bright lights and polished chrome; this spot embraces its dive status with pride. The lighting is exactly what you'd expect – dim, moody, creating an atmosphere that feels both secretive and inviting. The soundtrack to your evening is always top-notch, curated from a jukebox that seems to know exactly what you want to hear, making it a truly funky and...
Austin's Dive Bar Gem: Casino el Camino
If you've been living in Austin long enough, you know some of the best spots aren't always bathed in bright lights or plastered with trendy signage. Sometimes, you need to step into the glorious gloom of a place like Casino el Camino. Tucked away, it's the kind of establishment that whispers "authentic" from the moment you walk through the door. The lighting is low, just as you’d imagine for a classic dive, and the air is thick with the sounds of genuinely great music – think rockabilly vibes
