Opinions de East Side Pies Austin
My friend and I are visiting Austin from out of town and decided to stop at Komé for a casual lunch today because of all the on line recommendations for the restaurant. While everything was amazing, I really want to highlight the staff and, especially, our waitress (I am so sorry, I forgot your name despite asking for it a second time). She was prompt, very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable of the menu, giving us great suggestions when asked. Of course, all the other staff we interacted with were very friendly and helpful, as well. As on line individuals described, the food came out quickly, while respecting our coursing, and delicious. Everything was, obviously, also of great quality despite being so affordable. We started off with the "aji fry" which was perfectly breaded, had a nice tender texture, and paired perfectly with the tartar sauce accompanying it. My friend ordered the "kitsune udon" and thoroughly enjoyed it with a side of steamed rice. I ordered the "chirashi-don", which our waitress recommended and had a variety of sashimi and definitely did not skimp out on the seafood. Everything on it was very fresh. It came with some "miso soup;" I usually don't care for miso soup, but this was very refreshing and subtle (I've had miso soup elsewhere that is too overpowering in flavor) and felt perfect as the temperatures start dropping. I also ordered the "tarantula" signature roll to share with my friend. The roll is "only" five pieces, but each piece is huge and stuffed with shrimp tempura and softshell crab. The ratio of rice to the "filling" was perfect. Definitely doable for some as a meal alone. To end, this was a great experience and I would definitely come back if I find myself back in the Austin area. And the establishment, as amazing as the food and decor is, is very lucky to have the waitress who served us among the staff.
We’ve been twice now and both great experiences. Our favorites were the crunchy dynamite, longhorn, and rock-n-roll. We ordered the special niku tama udon and it was delicious! Looking forward to our next visit.
Kome Sushi is hands down my absolute favorite sushi spot in Austin, TX. Simply incredible and will 100% be coming back! I started with their pork gyoza, and it was incredible. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and a great way to kick off the meal. For sushi, I went all in with four rolls and every one of them delivered. The Crunchy Dynamite roll with spicy tuna, avocado, tempura crunch, eel sauce, and sesame seeds had the perfect balance of heat and texture. The Alone Together roll was next level with tuna, salmon, and yellowtail topped with BBQ eel, go-go sauce, eel sauce, and tempura crunch. So rich and packed with flavor. The Summertime roll with spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, avocado, go-go sauce, and sesame seeds was fresh and satisfying. My last roll, the Midnight Sun, completely blew me away. Tempura fried with smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, candied jalapeño, sunflower seeds, and go-go sauce. Absolute perfection with the perfect sweet and spicy kick. Everything was fresh, beautifully prepared, and bursting with flavor. If you love sushi and are in Austin, Kome Sushi is a must. I cannot recommend this place enough.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Kome Sushi in Austin never disappoints. The fish is always incredibly fresh, the flavors are well balanced, and the menu has a great variety whether you’re in the mood for classic rolls or something more adventurous. The service is friendly and efficient, even when they’re busy, and the overall atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed. Easily one of the best and most consistent sushi spots in Austin—I always leave happy and looking forward to my next visit.
Went here for my birthday. Great local place for Japanese food that's also family friendly with a kids menu and a bustling but not overcrowded environment. We got some salmon nigiri and the okonomiyaki and it was all delicious! Yuzu creme rules was also great as a finisher for the meal!
Took my family there. The food is great. I like the fried oysters and sea urchins. The waitress is really kind and even gives us drawing pencils and paper for our 3 years old.
Sushi was yummy and I loved the appetizers we got (especially the okonomiyaki). The sushi was a bit westernized but it was unique so I still liked it. The service was also amazing (I accidentally double tipped but they returned the extra tip after I emailed them)
So so good! I came in specifically to try the uni sushi, which was absolutely delicious with the salmon roe. My favorite bite was the monkfish liver pate nigiri. The waitstaff was attentive and quick, even during a rush.
Never had the sushi here but I'm sure it's good. Their menu has all the Japanese soul food you can crave and desire. Ordering tempura with shrimp is a non-negotiable for our family.
The pork buns were delicious and tender, although the flavor profile was a bit "basic". The sushi was good - but I'm not sure if it was quite worth the price for what you might be getting. The menu overall was a bit on the pricier side of things, but what really stood out was the atmosphere! The lighting was warm, slightly dim, and had cultural pieces of decor. Overall the restaurant was nice and had a pleasantly surprising vibe, but a more typical palate
Was our first time and our waitress was amazing with recommendations and food was delicious. We will be back for sure.
I’ve been here a number of times now and I absolutely love it! If you’re there for lunch get the Komè fries, the wasabi aioli is delicious.
First time here while visiting Austin and I loved it!! I tried their mango avocado roll, midnight sun roll & their vegetarian gyoza’s. Everything was amazing!
The staff is very friendly and sociable. I had an amazing time dinning here. On top of that the food came out fresh and packed with flavor. Each item is incredibly unique the menu has a variety of options and each one i've chosen has been delicious. The fish is fresh and savory with little to no fishy flavor in any. The atmosphere is inviting and intimate with tasteful interior decor. The soy sauce is like no other. I find myself coming back just for the soy sauce. Overall, I don't think I could write a bad thing about this place.
Went here for the first time and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Our server Alex S. was great and offered good food and beverage recommendations. We had the Tuna Poke appetizer and it was delicious, I am already craving it again. The only negatives is there is no happy hour and they batch their margs and ran out by 6:15 PM on a weekday. We arrived early on a weekday but later in the night there did appear to be a long wait. Would recommend and be visiting again.
By far the best pizza in Austin, and not a trend-setting pizza place. It’s a real pizza restaurant making their ingredients from scratch before it was a trend. I had over 5 different pizzas here and all of them 10 for 10. East Side Pies do sell pizza by the slice, most trendy pizza places don’t. Which mades “ESP” more accessible for customers. Also “ESP” is a local business and it’s always good to eat local.
This is the best pizza. Never had a bad one. Variety for grown ups and my kid’s fav cheese in Austin. I have specifically used for kids parties bc they love how easy they are to hold and eat). Exceptional customer service. Great desserts. One of the best pizzas in town!
East Side Pies is one of those Austin gems that reminds you pizza can be both creative and seriously satisfying. The atmosphere is quirky and laid-back, a perfect match for the East Side neighborhood vibe. The menu is full of inventive combinations, but the spinach pizza stole the show for me. It’s loaded with fresh, vibrant spinach that tastes like it was picked that morning, layered over a tangy tomato sauce and just the right amount of gooey cheese. The balance is spot on—fresh greens meet indulgent, cheesy goodness without either overpowering the other. The crust is thin and perfectly crisp around the edges while still having that nice chewy bite in the middle. Every slice feels light but still filling, which is a rare and welcome feat for pizza. Service here is friendly and unpretentious, and my order came out hot and fresh without a long wait. The prices are fair considering the quality of the ingredients, and you can tell there’s real care in how everything is prepared. The only thing holding this back from a perfect five stars is the limited seating. On busy nights, it can be a challenge to snag a table, but that’s also part of its charm—it’s the kind of pizza you’d happily take to-go and enjoy at a nearby park. East Side Pies is proof that great pizza doesn’t have to be complicated—just fresh, flavorful, and made with love.
Delicious pizza and the sandwiches look great too! The pizzas take a bit of time to cook, so be sure to order ahead. They are a bit on the pricey side too. It's right on popular 11th street, so it isn't the greatest of atmosphere, but you can certainly walk to see all that's going on around.
I was on the go, doing my UberEats run and picking up some food from another spot next door to East Side Pies. As I was waiting on the food, I could smell the delicious aroma coming from their kitchen, and it took me back to when I was a kid in the 80's, living in NYC and couldn't wait to get my hands on a slice of some good old fashion Italian pizza. And this place didn't disappoint. The young lady that took my order was delightful, and welcoming. I ordered the veggie slice, and as soon as I got it in my hands, and got a wiff of it...I just devoured it. Sooooo good...haha. Five stars! Highly recommended.
#momapproved #kidtested #kidapproved #pizzakid My mom Christy Ruiz from Soul Sister's Traveling Plants in Liberty hill recommended that I try out this little hidden gem. We are a pizza family and my mom has the best picker when it comes to local connesuier appreciation. J.W. was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He had some great recommendations for topping combinations ! I decided to go with artichokes, ham, and capers 😋🍕 I'm a HUGE FAN of the fresh ingredients, oooey gooey melts stringy cheese and the thin crust. Perfect topping to bread to sauce to cheese ratio....don't act like you don't know there's a science to it....you know EXACTLY what I'm referring to! Amazing customer service! Incredible flavors! I also love that they sell by the slice for people who are experiencing Austin's finest on a budget Side note....only place in america that doesn't accept cash 😂 #artichokeshavelayers #ogreshavelayers #pizzahaslayers #layers #queenofthestreets #texastraveler
I never write reviews , I mainly read reviews and try new places based on great reviews and this pizza was so amazing that I had to write a review!! Amazing crust so soft first few bites then towards the end it’s a crunchy. Sauce on the pepperoni was to die for and after eating 1 I needed to go buy 2 more slices. I’m from Houston and visited Austin for the weekend and we need a pizza spot like this one. Hands down one of the best slices. Ended up stopping back on the way back home.
I don’t 100% know where I fall on Kome. I think it’s absolutely fine. The bao was fine. The udon curry was fine. The Surf N Turf roll was fine but unnecessarily large. No individual part was particularly spectacular. Our server, Alex, was great. People rave about Kome and so I think it’s probably worth making a decision for yourself. I’ve seen this place be absolutely packed with long waits but I don’t think I could tell you why.
Excellent service all around. Our food came out in under 10 minutes for all 8 dishes, very amazing. The Shrimp tempura was tasty as well as nice and crunchy. The curry soda was as ok, the noodles were nice and chewy but feel the lack of protein/beef was disappointing.
This is the 4th pizza place in Austin we have tried; it is thin crust we're from CT where that is the staple - we got a margherita and guiche with garlic knots. For starters the garlic knots were okay, they were chewy white bread (not knots in anyway) with scarce amount of garlic on top. Pizza was a delight, still pricey for the size (a 12" pie in New Haven is ~$14 - here it is ~$15 for 10"). My personal favorite between the two was the Guiche, I loved the Mediterranean combo of flavors and the Marge was a solid intro to East Side Pies.
Was looking for a quick stop for lunch and came here due to the high reviews. Food was good, nothing spectacular. I had beef curry and the go-go roll, both were filling. I did ask if my curry could be made spicy and they provided me a small chili sauce thing that I could mix the curry with. It was fine but I was surprised to be charged $1 for a tiny saucer and so did my family members who also requested spice, as we were not told it would be an extra charge. Ambiance was cozy and welcoming. Staff were attentive. Prices were a bit high for the quality we got.
Sensitive person’s nightmare! Intense lights, music with weird horn sounds, weird doll things literally in front of your face (I’m sure it’s a cultural thing, but having so many so big right in front of you was creepy and intense to me). And they took my water bottle and seated people right next to us at the bar when there was plenty of room. Also, the ginger at the beginning was clearly not fresh (not a good start). Will not be back. Servers were very nice though!
Gave this place a try around 4pm. First pizza is great quality. I didnt get any plates with the pizza, vibe was the worst. What wouldve been an otherwise great date with my gf ruined by the many flies in the eating area and having to talk over people who rudely took our spot as we were getting our food. As a business owner, atmosphere/ cleanliness was a 1. Please do a better job cleaning.
Today while visiting Eastside pies on Rosewood, I ordered two slices of pepperoni to go, after ordering I asked if they could place both of the slices inside a small box opposed to the plastic bags that they usually serve them in when ordering to go. I was told that they no longer use small boxes for slices of pizza and was told that I could buy one if needed. I explained that I was on a bicycle & expressed that a small box would be more convenient, I spoke with the manager Haley and she refused to let me have a small box and stated that the plastic bag should be fine. I explained that the last time I picked up two slices on a bike that both pizza’s had slipped out the paper plates and were at the bottom on the bag, she said OK and still refused to place them in a box.
Been going here for quite awhile, live close by. Usually fairly happy with the product but it seems to have waned recently. Was fairly soggy and there must be a pepperoni shortage I don't know about. Just expect a little more for the price. Service was great tho, very kind lady at the front!
I’ve spent years eating my way through Austin’s sushi scene — from strip-mall counters to omakase rooms — so when I say Kome’s reputation is more hype than substance, I mean it. The general manager carries this “we’re the best in Austin” attitude, which is wild considering most serious sushi spots here are sourcing from the same Japanese markets anyway. There’s nothing uniquely elevated happening — the credit belongs to the line cooks and sushi chefs grinding behind the bar, not the front-of-house ego. Here’s where it went off the rails: I was kicked out and permanently banned for smoking marijuana hundreds of feet away on public property, nowhere near their entrance. That level of overreach tells you exactly how they operate — less hospitality, more power trip. In a city like Austin, where the hospitality culture is supposed to be welcoming and laid back, that kind of behavior sticks out in the worst way. I used to be a regular. I wanted to support them. But after spending time in other spots where the chef actually talks to you, the fish is just as good (if not better), and nobody acts like they’re guarding the gates of some exclusive club, it’s hard to justify going back. Yes, the space is pretty. But in this town, pretty doesn’t make you the best — and treating guests like they’re disposable definitely doesn’t. If you’re plugged into the local food scene, you already know there are places doing it with more humility, better energy, and the same supply chain — without the attitude. Kome could be great. The problem is they seem more interested in believing their own hype. So your response to your comment is amateur you’re service base is customers not for you to have a vibe of the type of customers you have Austin is a weed friendly city. We were definitely hundreds of feet away from your door. Doesn’t matter the size of the joint it’s funny you didn’t respond to the fact that mini sushi restaurants get their meat from the same market in Japan in Austin Texas so what makes you guys different your hospitality the manager no the cooks…
As an Uber Eats driver slaving away for hours on end, constantly dashing all over the city picking up and delivering orders, I rely on using the restrooms at the restaurants where I stop—it’s just basic human decency after being on the road all day with no other options. Every single place I’ve ever picked up from has allowed this without issue… until I showed up at Eastside Pies. This rude female employee flat-out denied me access, coldly informing me that their restrooms “aren’t public” and sneering that if I needed to go so badly, I should “go elsewhere.” Absolutely disgusting treatment of hardworking delivery drivers who are literally keeping their business afloat!
Was pretty disappointed with this place I was getting alkaline water from across the street and just walked over to get some pizza. I heard they had buy one get one so I wanted to try it. I was there at 10:52 in the morning and the lady wouldn’t give me the buy one get one because it wasn’t right at 11. I think it’s kind of ridiculous and she said it was a computer thing that’s BS. Also the Pizza was like eating a piece of paper now I see why you offer the buy one get one free because the first slice does not fill you up. Will not be coming back here. This place was horrible!!
Stop by this place and ordered a slice of pizza. I was given a burnt pizza so I went back to let the girl at the window know. She goes on to tell me that all the pizza are burnt like that with an attitude. I put the pizza on the counter inside the window and ask for my money back because I am not paying for the pizza. She throws the pizza back out the window and tells me to throw it away for health reasons and that I cannot get a refund. The whole time she had a bad nasty attitude which in return I gave her that same attitude back. She then said she would give me another slice and threw a pizza in the oven and then ask another clown that works there if he could do a refund. He comes to the counter and tries to give me a refund and I check my account and the payment was still pending. I let him know that the money was not refunded and he says he can put another slice in the oven because there is a no refund policy. I ask him for the managers name and phone number and he puts the number on a receipt and scribbles the managers name on the paper. I passed words when him as well. Now the thing that is so funny about the whole ordeal is that while I was standing there waiting for my pizza I notice that the Permit to Operate a Food Enterprise was expired. You have an unprofessional female working the register and cutting up pizzas without washing her hand after handling the front window with a nasty attitude that pretty much was saying to me “you take that burnt pizza because you aren’t getting your money back and a expired permit! I’ve been to this place many times and never had a problem and the workers have always been professional. This could have got ugly because people are tired of being disrespected! If you don’t like your job or the color of my skin you might wanna find you something else to do! I did receive the refund after speaking with my bank also. Austin has been ruined by people like this and I’m sick of it like everyone else is! This happened at the Location on Rosewood also.
