Very unique menu. Very cool ambiance. Our waiter George was great. Only one critique. Some of the appetizers came out just warm and not hot. The Brussels sprouts were the best I had ever had.
We spent our 11th anniversary at Lonesome Dove. We have both been in the service industry most of our lives and have to say…. Our server, George was hands down the best server weve ever had. He made the night amazing for us. From his fun and hilarious introduction, his honest approach and recommendations to his wine pairings and overall vibe. 10/10 recommend asking for George if you want to amplify your experience here.
10/10 Highly recommend. Really great and accommodating service. They didn't have a changing table so they set something up in a room and noticed that I was sharing my steak with the baby so they offered to cut a portion to cook hers well done while I had blue rare. The food was phenomenal, highly recommend the Elk Loin and dry aged ribeye. The only thing I wouldnt order again is the Fettine. The brussel sprouts are perfectly smoky. Our friends raved about the churros. All of the cocktails and after dinner coffees were a great finish to the meal. The bread pudding was good but not exceptional. I wish I had gotten more photos but we were all so excited to try everything! Will definitely visit again.
Fantastic service and atmosphere only outshined by the food. Between the elk Sliders, the crab cakes, the pork chops every single menu item strove to be the center of attention. Easily the best meal i've had in my life.
My grandpa is obsessed with this place. We go for Friday lunch so he can get the prime rib and twice baked potato, which he raves about. While the Lonesome Dove may not be a vegetarian’s haven, I greatly appreciate them including a few veg options on their menu. I get the black garlic Brussels (without the bacon vinaigrette) with the kale elote salad and both are wonderful. Ask for Rachel as your server - she’s awesome! 🫶
Unbelievable experience at Lonesome Dove. My wife and I stopped here for lunch as we were already downtown. And it well exceeded our expectations. The food is utterly amazing. I had the sliced prime rib sandwich and my wife ordered a salad. Both tasted delicious and the prices were reasonable on the lunch menu. The service was phenomenal. I enjoyed the ambiance as well. Great decor throughout. We definitely plan to return soon.
Austinites, let me tell you something, if you haven’t tried this restaurant, you are missing out on a quintessential Texas experience. Atmosphere, Texas-downed! Service, excellent and friendly. Food, a-mazing! I came for my anniversary and with every course, we found ourselves smiling. From Chef Nichlous Mason to Creative Experience Maker (server) Gladys, you will be overwhelmed by the experience, presentation, and attention to detail. I will definitely be coming back. See you there!
Everything we had was amazing. Rachel our waitress was great, the somm had a wonderful zinfandel recommendation. The food, my God. The bison ribeye might be able to convert a vegetarian into a carnivore. Also pictured are elk sliders (ok), the prosciutto like meats (good), the beef marrow (very good), and the elk loin (would've been amazing if we didn't get the bison ribeye which caused everything to pale in comparison). In total spent about $400 on food&wine
A Must-Try for Meat Lovers! We’re from Chicago and take our red meat seriously—LD Austin did not disappoint! We stepped out of our comfort zone and tried the rabbit & rattlesnake sausage, and wow… it was surprisingly delicious. The steaks and scallops were absolute perfection. Everyone we interacted with was warm and welcoming. Our waiter was fantastic, and we really appreciated the extra attention from what seemed like a manager or chef who checked in and chatted with us. It made the experience feel personal and memorable. Highly recommend!
My husband and I went here to hang out while as we waited for our ride to take us to our final Austin destination. The atmosphere was very relaxing and the happy hour area was extremely comfortable! Faith gave amazing service - she was attentive but not too over bearing. The food was delicious and the drinks were just as good! I highly recommend the Elk Sliders, the Fettine Trio, and the cinnamon churros!
My husband and I dined here for our anniversary recently. This was hands down one of the BEST dining experiences we’ve ever had. I would highly recommend everyone try Lonesome Dove. We can’t wait to dine at their Fort Worth location next. 😋 From start to finish, we were both thoroughly impressed. The cuisine was very unique, and pleasantly delicious. The atmosphere was very warm, welcoming, and cozy. And our waitress Rachel was phenomenal. She really went above and beyond to make our experience extra special. 🤩 The cherry on top of our wonderful dinner was the - extremely heartwarming and personal - card the staff signed to celebrate our anniversary. 🥰 oh and the champagne toast as well. 🥂 Do not walk, run to Lonesome Dove for your next date night!! 😉
We hosted a corporate event last night and had an unforgettable culinary experience. We ordered split appetizers and platters and the food was incredible. Our private party room was the wine cellar...it was cold 🥶. BUT Lonesome Dove thoughtfully provides shawls! Try the lightly smoked rattlesnake. Artful smoked quality meats and shareable options. Our guests were still talking about it the next day. Authentically Texan... we loved it! Thank you Chef!
Everything was top notch from the food to the service to the atmosphere. Hubs surprised me with a birthday dinner here and I was SO SKEPTICAL ( not feeling it) at first looking at the gamey menu. Our server was awesome and gave us good recommendations! The BEST appetizer we ordered was the Elk Slider, it is absolutely a MUST TRY! The flavors were unlike anything I've tasted before, I savored every scrumptious bite! My pic of it does not do it justice! The Blackened Gulf Redfish with Texas Caviar and braised collards was OUTSTANDING! I need this meal again for New Year's. You have to try the crispy Brussels Sprouts with bacon vinaigrette and black garlic, they are the 2nd best I've had (next to Uchiko's) but they are SUPER DELICIOUS and the flavor combination is definitely a winner! This was one of THE BEST birthday meals I've ever had and if you're ever in downtown Austin, Lonesome Dove is MUST TRY....no seriously, go!
A home run! Just loved the whole vibe and menu here which was both elevated and so distinctly Texan. It made for the perfect dinner for our one night in Austin. The service was both friendly and helpful with our server providing great recommendations for our first visit here. We started with a buck and pork belly charcuterie which was a nice starter. The rattlesnake rabbit sausage was outstanding - flavorful and and juicy, perfectly balanced by the crispy potatoes. For mains we had the elk and rabbit ravioli. Of the two, the elk was the star. Perfectly cooked with a wonderful rub, it was my favorite dish of the night. The rabbit was also very good, though we found the sauce a bit on the salty side. The ancho lava cake was the perfect finish - delicious. Overall, it was a wonderful evening!
This place is hands down the best place in Texas to dine in at. Your money spent here is well worth every bite!! The atmosphere is jaw-dropping! There are so many awesome feature at this establishment. The food is to die for. Everything was delicious. The plate setting was gorgeous. Each plate had it own textures and flavors beautifully displayed. Drinks were amazing and exactly the same with each glass poured. Alexis was our waitress tonight. She was so kind, knew the menu as if she wrote it, checked on us every couple of minutes to reassure us that we were satisfied. I couldn't have asked for a better night out on the town! 100% I will be back when visiting!
Exceeded my expectations. Lovely interior design with full bar and lounge seating, booths and tables, as well as private dining room options. Serious wine and adult beverages available. We received excellent service from Claudio, who can answer your questions about the menu. My divers scallops plate was delivered hot and delicious in every way. My salad was full of savory tastes and textures. My wife enjoyed her chocolate cake dessert which is absolutely sumptuous. Prices are high in keeping with quality of cuisine, lovely dining experience and downtown Austin location. Parking is whatever you can find on the street, so valet may save time and headaches. For a truly fine dining experience, this venue will meet your desires. Recommended.
Went here tonight for a spectacular family dinner. The interior is certainly distinctively decorated witha variety of antlers and taxidermied animal mountings on the wall along with lights, guitars, and an impressive selection of wines. The servers were very knowledgeable about the whole menu and very amenable to all questions. The selection of meat and seafood dishes were imressive and we even managed to make the sole vegetarian in the party happy. The restaurant had items like bison, boar, rattlesnake, and rabbit on the menu. All was well prepared and delectable, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The deserts were all scrumptious and hit the spot at the end of the meal. One of the best dining experiences I've had in years. Bravo!
Super friendly and helpful staff. Waiter went over the entire menu and provided suggestions and serving size guidance. Definitely some eclectic choices! I had a ribeye that was just "ok" it was dry and had a lot of fat. Place was also too loud for a business meal.
(3.5-4 stars) We booked this restaurant for my fiancé’s birthday and because we are adventurous eaters and love to try wild game. Overall, LD stands on its own with other wild game concepts like Dai Due, and we really enjoyed most of our meal. We would definitely get the tostadas, ribs (10/10!!), and lamb chops again. Two negatives: my fiancé’s tenderloin (ordered medium rare) was very rare in the middle and freezing cold. The second gripe is a first world problem: even though we added in notes that this dinner was for a special occasion, there wasn’t any acknowledgment from the hostess or our server. We chuckled when the two tables around us were also there celebrating birthdays and got an acknowledgment from their servers 😅 Our bill was almost $400 and we both agreed that price for value wasn’t quite there. If we were ever looking for this type of food in the downtown area I could see us returning, but we’re not in any rush.
Went for Valentine's Day with a set menu. Overall price was $350+ with two meals and 3 drinks shared between the two of us. The appetizer course was my personal highlight and seemed a summary of their normal menu. It was flavorful and had a wide variety of unique tastes to start the meal off with a delicious flavor profile. From there on the meal was disappointing. My second course was an unremarkable salad with pine nuts and a light dressing. The amuse bouche was an extremely tough piece of elk with only one split between the two of us. From other tables it seems there were supposed to be two provide (especially under the exorbitant price) regardless it was utterly tasteless and we wouldn't have finished it anyways. My main dish of beef tenderloin was tender, but very salty, almost as if any salt from the previous dish was included in the main course as an apology. Dessert was a treat of chocolate and raspberry cakes that was a nice enough finish to our Valentine's meal and was very rich. Overall a nice atmosphere with a meal that was thrown together for a single day menu, good chefs made it passable but far too expensive to repeat another go at the Lonesome Dove 🕊️
This might say more about me than Lonesome Dove because I wasn’t a fan and maybe that’s because I eat out too much in too many different restaurants. I don’t normally score this low, but my expectations were pretty high because I LOVE the Lonesome Dove book and series. This restaurant is not based on that story from what I could tell. The good: The server was friendly and conversational, but the delays between service were significant and the traffic was pretty light. The drinks were pretty good. The not so good: There wasn’t anything that we ordered that was better than just OK. The fettine trio was cut so think that it lacked any taste. The butter lettuce had a glob of dressing on top with three small pieces of tasty pork belly on the side. The carrots were mushy and overcooked and the crispy Brussels sprouts were not crispy. We ordered the rabbit ravioli and it was also just OK. We didn’t try the steak, so maybe that would have changed our review. Or we just need to stop eating out so much…
