Taco Shack Express is known for solid breakfast tacos and salsa. However, some customers report inconsistent food quality, cold food, undercooked potatoes, and bland burritos. Drive-thru service can be slow, and walk-up customers may be ignored.

Great food and quick service!!
ordered the beef enchiladas plate, delicious
The Burnett Burrito is a classic!!
Drive thru was quick and delicious!
Very excellent tacos and quick service
This is the best spot!
Good tacos.
Best tacos ever
Quick breakfast!
Nice drive thru. Friendly staff. Always speedy with my Hana’s tacos.
Consistent. Prices are fair compared to austins bs influencer taco scene. Nice location with pleasant workers.
I really enjoyed this place. I went for the first time today and got the steak taco. I really enjoyed their salsa. It kind of has a sweetness to it. I will definitely be back the guy working. The counter was also very nice.
It's the only great taco place in Austin, hands down. After a week of terrible food experiences, I finally stumbled on this hidden gem, and I'll only eat at this place when I travel to Austin.
Drive thru easy. Crazy good.
I had 2 cheese enchiladas rice and beans. It was really good.
Glad they opened this in the area, love the breakfast tacos. Just a heads up that the drive thru entrance is on Burrell Rd and the walk up driveway is on Anderson.
For serious, powerful hungry, you can't go wrong with the monster size BEVO breakfast burrito. Really enough for two people.
Food is delicious. Staff is middle of line but food is good so who cares about staff. Restaurants could use update but who cares bc food is good
Stop here very often for breakfast tacos. Fast service. Always tasty.
Friendly service and the best breakfast tacos in Austin, hands down.
Love that they gave all day breakfast tacos & a drive thru!
Early morning taco run for work. Shack Pack is a great deal.
Where the tacos are always great and the service comes with a smile!
Good tacos. Fast service. Friendly people.
The Burnet Road breakfast burrito is awesome👌
Always delicious and fresh. Nothing fancy but hits the spot.
This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Great food, awesome service
I really enjoy the Burnet Road Burrito and their coffee is exquisite. This is a great place to get a quick and satisfying breakfast.
Such amazing food.l and service. We come here as often as we can. The burrito bowls are awesome and you can never go wrong with their breakfast tacos.
There are outdoor picnic tables at this taco shack location, but there is no indoor seating at all. It is intended to be a drive-thru location. Service was quick and friendly, and the food was great.
Incredible food, and friendly service. Always fresh tasting and made to order. This family owned business has Mexican/TexMex down - they also happen to have some of the best bar be que you'll ever eat over at The Pit on Burnet. Taco Express has some of my favorite all time breakfast and dinner options that are as good as some and better than most. Easily the best Chorizo I have ever had - and that is a fraction of the menu offerings. So glad it is the neighborhood!

Always a solid breakfast taco spot and an Austin staple since 1996. No one makes salsa like they do and it’s so good. Quick service, in-and-out, and no fuss.
They have god breakfast tacos and I sure all their is great. Went through the drive thru.
I’ve eaten at Taco Shack for years. I love their crispy tacos. A few years back my office got moved within 45 seconds of their Spicewood Springs Rd location which I was pleased with. Only the tacos shells “always”had this rancid oil taste so nothing special to look forward to. I just tried their new Anderson Ln location and wow. There’s those tacos I love. Fresh crispy tacos, no rancid oil. Fast and friendly service like always. This location is a winner.

Good fish tacos
Tacos! Nothing more, not ng less. Great folks!
I got the taco shack burrito. I ordered it with the fajita as my meat of choice. All of the ingredients tasted fresh and the burrito was a good size but there was very little be fajita meat in it. Also, the ingredients weren’t spread out very good. The first half I ate was mostly rice and refried beans and then the second half was a little bit of both but mostly vegetables, sour cream and what little beef fajita there was in the burrito. The food got two stars because there was hardly any beef, however, it turned into because the food was tasty.

The burrito burrito was huge, but flavor was just OK. Something I could make myself at home wasn’t anything super special but the customer service was horrible. You can make up for abysmal food with a smile and a hello and how are you today? Easy customer service this place was really lacking
Went on a Sunday, were out of tortilla soup and fish tacos. Ordered the taco salad with chicken. Chicken was salty. Jalapeño ranch was okay
Very convenient cause of the drive thru. A little overpriced, but the employees are very friendly. The food is pretty good also.
Tacos are cold. My guess is they have everything premade and they must put it together for $5 a piece.
I have been going to TS for years and I like their tacos. I used to love them. The El Niño is still one of my favorites, along with the Shack and Burnet Road burrito. However the consistency has changed a lot much like their prices going up and up. Now I never know if my order will be right when I get home. I went recently on a Saturday and was give El Niños without the cheese and very chintzy amount of ingredients in general. When during the week it is correct and full! I always order jalapeño for my Shack and BB. It is hit or miss if I actually get them. Today was a “NOPE!” which led to this review. TS has been previously a go to taco breakfast taco treat for me and they can do better and have in the past and sometimes do now. But that is the issue consistency.
Got a Shack Burrito with carne guisada. They build burritos differently here, sort of like a tower. The top part is all the rice, then you as you work your way down you get to the beans. The lettuce is in the middle, followed by a powerful couple of bites of pure jalapeño. By the time you get to the end, the payoff happens…the meat choice is all there at the bottom. If you like your ingredients separated so you only taste one of them in each bite, then you’ll like this place.
Go here for breakfast, soft tacos are great! Stay away if you wanted any fresh, crunchy shells, they leave the shells open and uncovered (gross) and they are stale. Also - you get charged for 3oz guac but they give you a 2oz container.
Stopped in for breakfast tacos after finding out that their old location on spicewood had closed. Unfortunately, this newer drive through location just isn't making the food as well as the other location used to. The breakfast tacos were all only ok, and the service was very strange. The lady that took our order really seemed unhappy to be there. Pretty disappointing overall
I went through the drive through and ordered a fajita burrito and got a bacon egg and cheese burrito… so I had to turn around and they made my order but after having to sit in line again and I was on my way to work … the food was OK but just service isn’t that great.
Service was fine, I feel the food prices are high for what you are getting. My migas plate reminded me of something I would get from a school cafeteria. Simple and not much flavor. Convenient location to get in and out quickly though

They make my favorite breakfast tacos here. However, this place is set up for drive-thru laziness. If you walk up to the window, be prepared to be ignored as car after car drives up & orders. It's unfortunate. I liked the Taco Shack on Spicewood so much better.

Drive thru employee was a little rude and rushed but I’m sure it’s a management problem, as someone who worked in food and customer service. Tacos do not taste fresh, liquidy eggs, cheese not melted right but I know “nothing I can do to melt it faster for you”. Honestly the owners response to some of the reviews show why the tacos are mediocre and why this is one of the worst reviewed locations. Tortillas literally taste like mission tortillas, no flavor throughout the tacos, only gave an extra star because of how quick we got our food.
I want to give this place a 5-star because the food is good but the service is almost laughable. I usually have to repeat my order about 4 times and even still, sometimes there may be something missing. I usually order the same thing which is what makes it worse. I think I'll stick to their other locations
The food is pretty good. The drive through is excruciatingly slow - do yourself a favor and walk up.
Ugh. Just ugh. First up, they don't have the barbacoa or brisket tacos other locations have. Second, the size of the carne guisada taco I got was pitiful for the price. The quality was on par with a gas station taco, not the cool good gas station tacos but the sad heat lamp ones. When I first moved to Austin 23 years ago, I thought I didn't like breakfast tacos because someone took me to a Taco Shack. Nothing is different, they're still terrible ambassadors for the humble breakfast taco. Also, their salsa is lame. Don't get me started on the parking lot and trying to exit. Stay far away. Go to one of the other plentiful tex mex joints or trailers nearby and get something that's actually tasty and a good value, not something that you end up grumbling and grudge eating.
I used to eat at one of the other locations years ago but it had been, like I said, years.. so last year when this location opened near me I was excited. Ordered fish tacos. What I received was a tortilla with a pinky size piece of fish… I’ve literally never done this but I couldn’t justify the $12 or whatever it was for almost no food so I drove back, returned the food and got my money back. The other day, a friend was telling me how they used to always go to taco shack back in the day and got me on board to give it another shot… ordered 2 breakfast tacos and just had to laugh when my total was nearly $10 ($9.48) for two breakfast tacos… was handed the bag of tacos which felt very light so I was concerned. Turns out the tacos were filled about as much as the fish tacos I got last year. See pics. I ate the 2 tacos in about 2 bites each then drove to the best breakfast taco spot in town Vasques (Mexican Restaurant #2) also pictured. I will say the bacon at taco shack was good, but maybe a table spoon of eggs and one small slice of avocado just isn’t it. Do yourself a favor and just got to Vasquez.
I would give this a 5 star for the breakfast burritos, but the breakfast bowls are tiny for $5.49. The bowl is smaller than my hand and I don't have big hands.
I just ordered the bevo breakfast burrito while on my way home from work. I asked for guac and after walking another 20 minutes I got home and was disappointed to have wasted the money I could have used for the bus for nothing. Not the first time I've asked for something and they never added it but I payed for it. Long story short, ( to the restaurant ) READ YOUR TICKET . I work the industry too and if I hadn't worked graveyard I'd go back and get my guac but here's a review and hope y'all improve.

First time I ever ate a taco that tasted like Chinese food. The carne guisada taco literally taste like beef & broccoli(?). The miga taco was "okay". But that gravy in the carne guisada was something else (couldn't finish eating that one).
Food was cold and potatoes definitely undercooked. I threw most of it away. This has happened before at a different location, poor quality and I will not be returning to any location again. Too many other excellent options in this city!!

The shells are stale and the food is not good at all
Below average tacos for higher prices.
Gave me someone else’s order. I can’t eat flour and everything was on flour. Had to drive all the way back. Frustrating.
This place is gross and also rude. I got a taco that had a huge black hair in it and called the number on the website and left a voicemail. No answer. The next day I went back to the same store where it happened since I couldn’t go at the time because I was at work. She told me they didn’t get a call and since it had been 24 hours she couldn’t refund it and asked if I wanted another taco. I said no, I just wanted a refund. She asked for a picture which I showed her. You would think showing a picture and reaching out through multiple lines of communication they would give a refund. She gave me her boss Carlos’s number. I called, left a voicemail with all the details including the transaction amount, location, and date. He called me back once but when I tried calling again there was no answer and no refund. Just gross.
Do yourself a favor and just go to the Mexican place across the street. Couldn't finish the enchiladas or the crispy taco plate because how bad the taste was. Yuck!!!
Picked up tacos before work, tacos were cold and cheese didnt even melt. Food taste bad, what a waste.
Order was all wrong very disappointed that the guy taking the order was not paying attention I will never go there again
She came out just to yell at because I told her her sign was confusing I trying to explain I couldn’t see
I wanted to pay for my takeout order with cash and card, to which the employee had me walk around to the drive thru window, literally standing in the drive thru lane. Once I returned home with my food, I opened the bag and unwrapped my burrito to find the interior bland, and the cheese clumpy and unmelted. Location is not pedestrian friendly and food is disappointing and lacks any passion.
Served us cold food. Cheese wasn’t even melted in the burrito after sitting for at least 3 to 5 mins due cashier having trouble with Apple Pay. The supposedly owner insists the food was hot when she left and refuses to receive the photos and videos we had. Nonetheless we got our refund and won’t be returning to this location.
I ordered a bean and cheese burrito because I thought it’d be a better deal than getting 2 tacos. When I opened the bag I thought they accidentally gave me a taco and they said no that that is the burrito and that it was 9 inches. I ordered a taco and I compared them and they were the exact same size. I wouldn’t have measured it if they had been nice about it but they were very rude and didn’t listen to me at all
Taco shack consistently has the worst service in Austin This new location is no different. The drive thru wait is always 15 mins and I ordered avocado on two tacos, got charged for it, and neither taco had avocado in it! I want my money back!!
I usually go to Vazquez but didn’t want to back track en route to my office so I stopped here today. Pulled up to the window and was dryly greeted by a lady. I told her it was my first time, to which she simply responded “ok, let me know when you’re ready”. I really should’ve drove away then, but I was hungry so I went ahead with my order. That’s what I get for thinking with my stomach.😭Got to the window and the employee answered my questions as if I was bothering her (what kind of orange juice do you have?), walking to the cooler with a slight annoyance that I asked. I decided to pass bc they were cheaper made options that I don’t like. She took my card for payment, and even though I said “thank you” every time she handed me something (my bag, my drink, my card, receipt), she didn’t say “you’re welcome” or anything similar. I am generally polite because I used to work food service and respect the people who are in that role (knowing what they have to deal with). That being said, why be rude without provocation? Why come to work if you really don’t want to be there? Why make people not want to visit your establishment, in turning hurting the establishment and their potential to stay open? You can’t make money if you don’t have customers and poor service is a sure fire way to keep from having customers. The entire interaction was just bland. Speaking of which, let’s get into the food. The cheese WASNT EVEN MELTED on the taco. Like, for real? At the very least, that should be the bare minimum expectation for something served “hot” and wrapped in foil. I use the temp term loosely because “hot” is definitely what they were NOT. The potatoes were soggy, flavorless, and completely unseasoned. I mean not even one single speck of pepper. No salt. No nothing. Then, to add insult to injury….the salsa. Lord, Jesus the salsa. It tasted like it had been stored uncovered in a high blowing fridge. I don’t know how to explain the taste of “refrigerator”, except to say if you’ve eaten anything with that taste then you know exactly what I’m talking about. It was not good and I ended up having to throw away the first taco and just ate the second one plain. This entire experience was lackluster at best. Add in the fact that they charge 2.99 for a 20oz fountain drink that’s mostly ice (and gas stations have a whole bottle for 2.89), and it was just all around not a good visit. I don’t intend to return here, nor do I think I will recommend them to anyone. Certainly a waste of $12.

the burnet burrito was very average, especially compared to all the great options around here. the service, however, is what gets the rating. the lady who works the window took my debit card and did not give it back to me, and when I realized less than an hour later, she wouldn't look for it and just claimed to not have it. shady business practices here. wouldn't recommend it to anyone who likes having a debit card.
what happened to this place ? when it was on anderson/spicewood it was one of my favorite breakfast tacos - went there today and the taco itself had no flavor - and my favorite part used to be the salsa, what is this? it’s sweet no spice, had to stop at Birria Mama Rose to spice it up, sad to see it go like that - bring the old salsa back!!!
2:10pm. Open sign is lit up and hours say close at 2:30. Walk up to the order window and that's when they turn the open sign off.
