My best friend said it best about the Grackle, " It has a great neighborhood bar type feel, laid back and it has East Side Kings." Drinks are cheap and good. I suggest the Cold Creek Whiskey with a splash of water. Bring your dog and a good group of friends to hang out on their nice patio. Or you could hangout inside and play pool or darts. One of my favorite blocks on the east side.

This place is amazing! No muss, no fuss, just the real deal with alcohol involved. And the best part ... its all whiskey, whisky, whiskey and no children allowed! Great adult space for a wonderful adult time! If you have time to take the time - take the time!

Originally went there for fries. There is no kitchen tho and the good truck seemed vastly over priced. What they lacked in food they made up for in an abundance in apirit knowledge and cocktail expertise.

Hands down the best place in Austin for whiskey! Their beer selection is always on point and their prices are extremely reasonable, especially compared to other places in the area. Divey, dark & wonderful. Stay away, frat boys

Love coming here anytime I’m in Austin! Bartenders are awesome, great selection & always need a round of darts while I’m here.

I really liked this bar because it had a great atmosphere and the bartender lady was extremely nice. Chill place with great beers on tap. Great patio, darts, just fun overall. We even got tshirts!!

Great bar! I was visiting from California for a bachelor party. An Austin friend highly recommended we check out The Grackle. We did and had a fun time. Darts, friendly staff and patrons, & a wonderful outdoor space. AND I accidentally left my wallet at the bar and the staff reached out to me via Facebook and mailed it back to me! Amazing! Will definitely come back to The Grackle on my next trip. Cheers!

Soooo many choices of whiskey!! Service was great. Music was great!!

The temptation to give this place a low review so others won’t crowd it out is tempting but Grackle earns every star. Grackle is a dive bar that looks and feels like it, but with probably one of the best whiskey/scotch selections in the city. Up until a couple months ago they only had one vodka available, although a great local one, and they have a few staple beers on tap along with a good selection of local beers and spirits. It’s amazingly friendly, the bartenders are some of the best, and it’s never ungodly crowded. Plenty of outdoor space to sit, and an amazing vegetarian food truck to order your late night cravings from. There is a very small parking lot so come early for happy hour to get free parking. No hatred allowed so racists, homophobes and the like can stay out or be thrown out.

If you're looking for that dive bar vibe from the Midwest, this is your bar. One of the best whiskey and whisky selections in Austin. I especially like their barrel selections. I go every time I visit.

Whiskey, Whiskey, WHISKEY!! Grackle is a slice of heaven for any whiskey / bourbon drinker. Their selection is unparalleled. I've been through a lot of this beautiful country and have seen my fair share of bars, lounges, dives, clubs, steak houses, etc. None can come close. On top of that the Bourbon Gods smiled on my and I happen to be there the same time Jordan was. Jordan gave me a great education and recommendations. One of his was Still Austin a 2 year straight bourbon, that could pass for an 8 year all day. Would have never found it or probably given it a chance. Smooth rich notes and great finish. This spot should be on every whiskey lover's bucket list!

Fantastic dive bar on east 6th. Wish all the spots around were still like this. And plus, this is inside! :)

The Grackle is my go-to place for daytime drinking. The patio is spacious and shady. Drinks are cheap, they make a superior Bloody Mary, and always a food truck or 2 in the parking lot. The clientele are fine folk and I've always enjoyed the atmosphere, in the same vein you might find at any other east 6th bar; take that as you will. I've never been at night, no idea what it is like then. Could be totally different, I don't know.

Great little bar. Friendly staff. Good atmosphere.

This is the closest thing to Studio 54 in Austin. They don’t have Disaronno on the rocks yet but the bald bartender (Tad? Tip? Ted?) said they’d get it in soon. He’s literally the sweetest bartender in Austin.

A
Adam Treat

The go to bar for me, my friends and coworkers! We love Evan, she's literally the sweetest person. If she's working that night, we are there. They have darts and a pool table. If you find yourself of East 6th, be sure to stop by.

B
Brian Duclos

Great dive bar. Awesome service, great whiskey choices, better prices than most places, and they have old fashioneds, mint juleps, and Manhattans on tap from Woodford, Wild Turkey, and Makers. They also have multiple bottles of various Weller on hand, which is rare.

C
Celia Pennington

Love love love this place. Bartenders are amazing. Great, no frills bar. One of the last east sixth bars that still feel like you’re on east sixth, not west sixth. Super dog friendly and a great vegan food truck outside. Never change Grackle. <3

M
Mercer Moore

It’s a whiskey-focused dive bar. The staff is great, the outdoor space is large and comfortable, and the indoor space is cool and dark — perfect for escaping from the hot Texas sun. The bathrooms were recently redone and look awesome! Love it here, my favorite spot on the east side.

This was our first stop in Austin and it was a wonderful decision. Amazing prices and great customer service. Clayton was our bartender and he was friendly, quick, and made a great drink. They have an awesome sign out front that basically days “ no hate allowed”. I highly recommend stopping here if your visiting Austin. We will definitely be back

Was told I'm their 3rd worst patron ever. Fair. I love this place. Great beer and bourbon. Staff is salty but fun. I may be their worst feature. 3rd worst anyway. It's great.

We played a good game of pool, had great conversations with both the bartender and the person at the door. Love the atmosphere, and glad we finally gave it a try. The selection of whiskey is insane and I’m definitely coming back to try the green tea shot on tap.

A classic dive in the heart of East Austin. Amazing whiskey selection, pool and darts. Bret is my favorite bartender— smart, kind, full of stories and knowledge. His mustache is epic.

The Grackle isn’t your dainty cocktail lounge, it’s a whiskey-soaked temple of grit. Walk in and the air smells like bad decisions (in the best way), the floor is sticky, the music growls, and the bartenders pour like they’re trying to test your liver’s loyalty. No neon Instagram corners here, just dim light, wood worn down by a thousand elbows, and a whiskey list that makes you feel like you’re about to pick a fight with the devil. You don’t sip here, you throw back. You don’t pose here, you post up. This is where tattooed regulars nurse shots next to broke musicians, where the bathroom graffiti has more poetry than some MFA students, and where last call feels like a dare. If Austin ever got into a bar fight, The Grackle would be throwing the first punch.

Dear the Grackle, You are a fantastic space. You can tell someone cares about the plants on the patio. A person in the food truck outside called me momma and then, I thought, yes, I am momma. I am momma at the grackle and I am momma eating a cheesesteak. I am momma and I have no children but I am Here at The Grackle being momma.

Whiskey, whiskey, and....... more whiskey. I love it. It's definitely the largest and finest selection around. And the selection really stacks up against others in major cities (yes even vs my hometown Lexington). Bit of a hole in the wall but who cares. If you love whiskey like me (especially bourbon) then you are required to come here. Do it!!

Melissa Frenzel

Cool, dive spot to get a good cocktail. If whiskey is your jam, then this is a good spot to check out. Mint Julep's, Manhattan's, and Old Fashioned's on tap. Great service, along with a fantastic selection of hard to find whiskey options. Various Weller options as well as Blanton's, to name a few.

Alexandra Geesman

Nice place. Chill atmosphere. They have darts and cult classics playing in their TVs. Bartender is knowledgeable about whiskeys. I had a super smooth local whiskey, Balcones Single Malt. Luckily I found out it’s carried at my Seattle Total Wine! Definitely getting a bottle when I get home.

Sarah Chouinard

This is an awesome eclectic bar with a great draught beer selection and an all inclusive tolerance policy (no haters welcome!). They also have Arlo's food truck parked outside which is a delicious vegan food truck! All the yums.

R

I enjoy starting the night at the Grackle and making my way down East Sixth. It offers $3 craft beers until 9pm and that can't be beat. The inside seems to be lacking, but the patio offers great seating and plenty of room for all of your friends. It's a bonus to enjoy ESK while you drink. They offer trivia on Thursday nights which usually brings in a good crowd and makes for a fun night.

S
Sam Keske

Definitely a dive, but enjoyably mellow on a weekday after work. Surprisingly good selection, recently including a salted Gose beer. Friendly patrons, and good spot for darts. And can't miss the killer mural on the front fence.

K
Kiwi

I like the feel of this place, they play old movies behind the bar and have darts and a pool table. Bartenders are very cool. My drink got thrown out by accident and they made me a new one, no charge. Whatever food truck they have outside, cant remember the name, get the Frito pie. Best ever.

C
Cameron Snow

This place is a nice little bar. They have a pool table, and a chill dive bar feel. Definitely not a bad spot to take some friends or a date. Now, I would recommend stopping by the Arlo's food truck outside for a bite to eat, it also happens to be all vegan food which is cool. Then go back in and grab some beer or booze to chill and chat!

J
Jeff Murray

An excellent dive bar! Unassumingly, The Grackle has one of the top whiskey selections in all of Austin. Not to mention a great list of craft beers on tap. It's shocking that they are packed all of the time. Pool table and darts are free as well and a nice patio area. Nathan, the man at the door, is awesome!

J
Jp T

Had a nice selection of whiskey, but unhappy with the service. Walked up to the bar and two employees just continued talking. Then helped a couple that came through the door first without acknowleding me who was already standing there. Also, seemed unfriendly and uninterested in most people.

W
Whitney Magnuson

The Grackle is a nice spot with lots of diversions, including an outdoor area with a food truck in the parking lot, pool tables, dart boards, plenty of booths. The clientele is generally a little hipster for my taste, but it's a nice spot to meet up with people, as there's a little of something for everyone. The drinks are nothing fancy, but they are relatively cheap, and I never had to wait more than a few minutes to get a drink.

R
Rob Tulloh

We visited the food truck for Filipino food for lunch. All the food was freshly prepared and we enjoyed our meals

E
Elliott Mullen (Traveling Armadillo)

Nifty, standard Austin bar. Nice atmosphere with hip locals. Theres darts and pool but the juke box is weak. If you get hungry there is a burger/taco food trailer in the back.

J
Johnny !

I've got no hate for the Grackle, but I'm not fond of the birds themselves, though the males do have pretty blue feathers. Decent bar with patio, several decent local draught beers. Not a bad spot, but it lacks luster, there does not seem to be anything unique or special about it. 2024 update: "That burger" food truck, makes a delicious smashburger. Totally worth going just for the truck. And go in and have a beer, they have a number of drafts. Roughly $8 per beer.

D
Daniel M

The best darts boards in town. The drinks are pretty pricey but if you like whiskey this is the place for you. Unless you like really nice places, then probably not. It will get about as packed as anywhere on the weekend, so be ready to wait if you want to play darts. Smoking patio is alright, and location is good so it's usually a go-to on weeknights.

D
Daniel Pino

Layout/atmosphere *Half circle bar with TV; pool table (with quarters machine); three dartboards; covered patio Food/drink *Zilker Park Brewing Icy Boys Lager (draft) - below average *Lone Pint Yellow Rose IPA - below average; hoppy *Large whiskey selection *Complimentary water cooler *Asador Tacos food truck parked out front

N

Grackle has a great whiskey selection and awesome dive bar vibes.the outside area is cool too. Service can be slow sometimes. Their batch old fashioned is pretty good for pre-made.

R
Ryan Weaver

Not big on the people that were there. Being in my late 30s and from the country, I felt out of place and not comfortable. But the service was good, and the bar tender was nice and got what we wanted. I enjoyed my night with my woman and that's all that matters.

Ethan Oblak

The best part about this bar is that it's a double wide. Big covered patio with a nerdy grungy crowd. Good taste in movies and shows on the TVs. If you have a bad time here it's your own fault.

Peter Brindley
Peter Brindley

Solid dive bar. Door man was nice. Inclusive atmosphere. Big old patio. Bartenders were good. Perfect place for a couple quick drinks or a hang on the patio.

Jim Lepick
Jim Lepick

It’s a decent standard dive bar on east side that’s not too crowded. The whiskey selection is pretty darn good. The beer selection ain’t bad either, but the Saturday I was there they were out of almost everything. The bartenders are cool though. Very chill place with an awesome food truck on site. They actually have some parking too, even if it is just a handful of spaces.

Daniel Perez
Daniel Perez

Awesome dive bar with a crazy good whiskey selection. The place itself is really cool and relaxed. The interior has got a few tables, darts, and a pool table. There's outdoor seating with fans and all, and there's even a food truck out front. The bar tenders are awesome and make a killer whiskey sour. They also have a short (about 8) but surprisingly good selection of beer on tap. There's a very small parking lot, so you'll likely have to park out on the street, but it's more than most bars on east 6th offer. Definitely worth coming for the whiskey alone, but it's a good spot for a late night hang.

C
Carl Magnuson

The inside has a special smell. Not a good kind of special. Outside is nice though if the weather is nice. They have darts, but the darts are cheap and don't fly straight. One pool table. Good friendly clientele.

W
Whitney Diehl

The Grackle, unlike its beady-eyed, winged namesake, isn't dirty or loud. It's a solid bar that has lots of room for darts and hanging out. Good selection of beers on tap, but here's the best part: one of East Side King's trailers makes its home here.

D
Don Dada

I’ve always enjoyed going to the grackle (which is why I’m giving 3 stars), but tonight was extremely unpleasant. I spent $28 for 2 bottom of the barrel liquor brands, not including tip, and the “bouncer”, (person who validates ID), was extremely unprofessional, angry, rude, and obviously on a power trip. I genuinely asked him if I could get my drink to go (expecting a polite yes or no), and he yelled at me , kicked me out, and then called the cops when I asked why he was so upset and tried to resolve the solution.

M
Michael Berliner

Regulars here swear by it, no doubt has a good rotting beer selection, low pricing, a little far from the main bar area and the crowd is a little on the hipster side. In the end it is a pool hall/dive bar, if this sounds like your type of spot then you might end up adding it to your shortlist after coming a couple times, if it is not you might end up not finding the motivation to come out the extra distance to get a drink here.

A
Andy Anderson

Staff here is beyond rude and aloof. Maybe it’s part of the “experience” but I’ve felt like a burden every time I’ve ordered a drink. Nice whiskey selection though 🤷🏻‍♂️

M
Matt G

Not sure if they are trying to make themselves seem like a dive bar but I got that vibe from the place. Drinks where more expensive than most other places in the area. They have a huge selection of whiskeys. Another nice feature is the free darts. There are three boards but they are kind of tightly placed so it's snug fit if all three are being used simultaneously.

K
Katherine Tepper-Marsden

2 stars for the whiskey selection, 0 stars for the terrible bartender Clayton. Also, they don't take American Express. There are better dives in Austin with much nicer staff. Don't bother with this one, go to Chili Parlor or SABG.

M
Meghan Haskell

I had high hopes for this place. as a Massachusetts transplant, I was missing a dive called Ralph's rock diner. the Grackle looked promising, with it's dimly lit corners and punk crowd. we showed up early on a Saturday (8pm) & stayed for 2.5hrs. it was a ghost town. the draught beers tasted like the kegs were kicked and the bartender was cold & pretentious. the front door man seemed out of it, chain smoking and judging everyone coming through. thoroughly disappointed in the drinks, food selection (food truck was closed), and overall vibe. :(

Ana Hobson
Ana Hobson

Whoever is the owner of this establishment has no business acumen. A business should never treat clientele as poorly as this bar. I've been here twice and will never return. Whether it's the bartenders or front of door staff if you're a paying customer they act like they're doing you a favor by giving you any type of service. Read the other reviews and you'll see how they treat their clients - and yes if you are a person of color the establishment is indeed racist so take your hard earned money somewhere else to a business that deserves it. There are better options in Austin.

R
Ricardo Andrés González

They advertised being opened on Thanksgiving, after wrapping up our dinner I headed there with my friends at around 9:30pm. I gave my ID which expired Nov 20th, they denied my entry due to the ID being expired. I told them I had flown with that ID, and that it doesn’t change my birthdate. The bouncer then asked me to bring my passport, I’m assuming he said this since we were a diverse group. So much for all the acceptance and flags they have. Not surprised they were empty, we just walked to Whisler’s and had a better time. So if you’re looking to go here, don’t! Just go to Whisler’s.

C
Conor Kelley

This is not a dive bar. Very forgettable atmosphere and rude staff. Try’s to be “punk” but are all posers. Honestly offensive to the culture they try and portray. I hope there’s a kitchen fire. UPDATE: This bar is still awful. 🤮

A
Ally Rodriquez

Wasn’t let in because one of our group members was “stumbling” and clearly was not. Ableist because they clearly can’t tell between someone that is drunk and has a limp from knee replacement. Talked to neighboring bars that they are unreasonable and bouncer in incompetent.Goodluck getting service it’s dead as it is.avoid at all costs.

R
Roanin Mock

Racist bartender. She already had a terrible attitude, then proceeds to comment on the fact that I had my friend had his “eyes closed” because he was Asian. She also didn’t allow us to get a refund after kicking us out when we pointed out her racist remarks. Terrible all around. 0 stars if I could. Would not recommend.

R
R B

Ordered food outside at food trailers - happy to not go inside because we came with two kids and four adults. But they made us leave the parking lot picnic tables because of the kids. Had to go and eat on the grass across the street. Saturday afternoon. Nice.

EXTREME WARNING: DO NOT SUPPORT THIS ESTABLISHMENT I cannot stress enough how awful this place is. The staff is unbelievably rude, especially the doorman. This guy reeks of alcohol, clearly intoxicated on the job, and is on a serious power trip. He groped me and my entire party – absolutely unacceptable and disgusting behavior. He acts like a petulant child who gets off on abusing his authority. If you read through the other one-star reviews, you'll see a recurring theme: Countless people have had terrible experiences with this guy, and he clearly doesn't care about the safety or well-being of his customers. I urge you to stay far away from this place. If you're the owner and you're reading this, take note: clean up your staff. This place is a disaster and a danger to anyone who walks through the door because of your staff who are clearly drinking on the job.

J
Jose Barboza

Went there a few days ago to have a beer with some friends and the bar tender was extremely rude. He actively called my buddy out over not tipping him every single time he got a drink even tough he had all ready tipped him 6 or 7 dollars. He also kept walking outside and leaving the bar unattended so if you wanted a beer you had to go look for him outside. The beer selection was good but that was about the only redeeming quality about this joint save yourself the rudeness and just go to another bar.

K
Kellee Webb

Came in with a group on 09/15, bald bartender was completely rude to several in our group. We just took our drinks to the patio and enjoyed ourselves. Did not order another and will not be going back. I see several other reviews referencing the same issue. Don't be in a service industry with a surly attitude, go find something you enjoy!

F
Franklin Briones

I have never left a bad review but tonight is the first time I’ve experienced a rude bounce man. I understand that it is SXSW and it’s a bit busy but the guy outside hunched over with a medium to thin mustache showed no respect to my small group of 4. We walked up and he said, have a goodnight. We asked, is it at capacity? He replied, “like I said have a good night”. We proceeded to reciprocate the good night wishes and carried on. It was a distasteful experience and it makes it tough to want to come back when there was no reasoning that we could not enter but just some sarcastic comment. Thanks Grackle, I’ll be looking out for this ID checker next time I come by

c

Guess this guy tips himself what he wants. Closed my account and the next day I get charged almost double.

T
Tania Flores

The staff and owners at this bar seem to be completely racist, the bouncer (Thursday night bouncer, white male) let's in white passing people in any condition but makes up the dumbest excuse to not allow POC in. Read their reviews throughout the years there's multiple accounts of this. I tried calling them twice to discuss with manager or owner and no one answers clearly no accountability and nothing changes. Will never support and will spread word of mouth that this place is trash.

F
Fosh McOats

I ordered an Uber to the bar with a High Noon in my hand. Uber driver did not care. Arrived to the bar, finished the high noon, asked my friends where I can throw the seltzer can away so that we could all go into the bar. Bouncer overhears and walks into the parking lot says "You were drinking an alcoholic beverage in the parking lot, so I can't let you in to this bar" . Okay. I tell the bouncer I'll just go to Liberty to get food and drinks. My friend says "I have friends inside already that are at Asador Tacos just finishing their tacos, I'm not going to get a drink, just want to get food with them". The taco truck is 5 feet from the bouncer, outside. Bouncer says I can't let you in, and then demands that all of my friend's friends at Asador Tacos leave as soon as they finish their tacos because my friend was being 'rude' and 'disrespectful'. I've seen my fair share of power trips from bar bouncers, but this was something else. I don't understand why Asador Tacos had to lose business because of this man, because that place is delicious.

M
Matt Wilson

Never felt so unwelcomed by a bar. We gave this place 3 separate opportunities, but customer service is insanely bad. After waiting about 27 minutes (we timed it because it's so bad), we went to the bar and politely asked about the drinks. Instead, they scoffed at us and made us wait another 15 or so minutes before serving slightly above mediocre drinks. There are dozens of better bars around East Austin, don't waste your time.

G
Gabriela Galvan

I had an unwelcomed experience at The Grackle. My boyfriend and I (both hispanic) approached the bouncer with our IDs, he doesn't glance at the ID or look at it but says " I can't let you in ... I don't know how drunk you are." I asked, "are you serious" and he said "yes." Mind you we weren't stumbling, no erratic behavior, nor slurred speech, so this doesn't make sense to deny us entry. We tell our 3 other friends what happened and left. After this impertinent experience here, my group of friends and I went to La Perla & Whistlers for drinks both of which were welcoming and friendly. Lefty's was also very friendly but they were closing. Don't give The Grackle your business. East Austin has better experiences to offer than an unsavory bouncer. Whether he was exhibiting a power -play or discriminatory behavior I'm unsure of but I advise you to read others' reviews as well.

J
Jane Erdmann

Rude Bartender- for such a nice space. “If you aren’t having beer or whiskey, why are you here” When a friend asked for a beverage for their partner not obvious at the bar he responded with “Let me refer you to my Irish Mother” (insinuating that my pregnant friend should drink what they have not what was requested) The door guy was very kind, but the bartender obviously can’t read the room. Sure you have a whiskey crowd, but your ignorance toward women, pregnant women, and other folks who may be treating their friends to a drink shouldn’t matter. Awful customer service.

S
Subin P

I unfortunately experienced some racism from the lady bartender. She was claiming that I was going to sleep when I literally just have smaller eyes as an Asian person. I am highly offended and disappointed at the way this establishment treated me. I have never experienced such a negative overall experience.

Genuinely one of the worst bars I’ve ever been too. Horribly rude staff, super overpriced drinks for average stuff

C
Cole Gannaway

I was denied entrance at the door because “my eyes were too red” which supposedly was an indicator that I was too drunk. I was on a first date and had 1 drink at a bar across the street. We simply wanted to play a game or two of pool. I offered to take a breathalyzer and was denied access to a manager since her job was “too difficult”. I even took a selfie picture to see if my eyes were red, and of course they were not. I attempted to call the bar to make things right but the phone number appeared to be inactive. Extremely rude staff. I have never experienced such an event in my life. I hope management fixes this issue since it is a fun venue and bartenders are usually very nice once inside.

WARNING: THIS BAR IS A NIGHTMARE I've visited this establishment three times, hoping each time that my previous experiences were flukes. Sadly, they were not. Twice out of those three visits, I encountered the same doorman, easily identifiable by his face tattoo (Im assuming his name is James just based on all of the Google AND Yelp reviews), whose behavior was nothing short of appalling. This individual, reeking of alcohol and clearly intoxicated, made me and my friends feel incredibly uncomfortable. His actions were inappropriate and unprofessional, and it's clear that he should not be in a position of authority where he interacts with the public. If you scroll through the one and two-star reviews for this restaurant, you'll see that nearly every single one complains about this specific doorman. This is not a coincidence, but a clear pattern of behavior. This individual is bringing chaos, drama, and negativity to your establishment. To the owner: if you value your customers and your business's reputation, you must address this situation immediately. This doorman is hurting your business. His actions are unacceptable and have created a hostile environment for your patrons. Please take the necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of your customers. Someone is going to get seriously hurt if you continue to allow this man to work at your establishment. Until this matter is resolved, I strongly advise avoiding this restaurant. Don't risk subjecting yourself to the harassment and discomfort that this employee clearly causes.

This place is very unwelcoming. Live, laugh, leave? Pretty much sums it up. So many real bars on 6th. This place is awful. Read the reviews on all the other websites. How they got 4 out of 5 stars on this one blows my mind. I hope you never have to have the experience of meeting the owner if for some reason you decide to go to this place

TLDR - Search through their reviews for key words like “Racist” and “Bouncer” - that should be enough. Stopped by for food at the taco truck Kuali Tlakuai and asked to use the restroom, but the BOUNCER (Long haired) refused—claiming it was because I had briefly brought in a drink from another bar, which I tossed immediately when asked. His reaction felt excessive and unnecessary. The whole interaction left me feeling like race played a factor, which led me to see other reviews - and seeing other complaints about the bouncer and mentions of RACISM only confirms I wasn’t alone in this experience.

When we first moved to Austin 10+ years ago this place was pretty cool for a dive bar, however, the last time we went the bar staff was super rude and unfriendly. We had a table inside and could see the bar. One of the female bartenders kept staring at me like she was trying to see through my soul which was very awkward and uncomfortable. It's as if she was trying to intimidate me or show me I'm not welcome. The bar back/busser guy was also rude and did not do well at bussing the tables leaving them full of glasses from the previous occupants. We will not return to this establishment and hope that people choose to go anywhere else. There are TONS of bars on East 6th and people don't deserve to be treated unkindly when they choose to spend their money in your establishment.

The bartender took advantage of me being regular there I guess. The bar had purchased new lounging sofas. I made myself comfortable (leg propped up on my knee, slight lean). She then comes up to me and tells me to “sit up and act right. Come on man, are you kidding me”. Mind it this is not an upscale cocktail establishment. Needless to say I have yet to go back and if she’s working I won’t refer anyone there or be last place to check out on eat side. Regular or not, she clearly forgot about her customer service self which I’m sure landed her the job years back when.

The old bald guy bartender here is just flat out sexist. We had just walked in on Thursday night and I had asked my partner to order my drink because I was on my way to the bathroom, and the bartender demanded that I (a woman) look him in the eyes to order. In shock, I walked closer to him to order and he talked to me like a child, reprimanding me for not giving him “the person making your drink” the respect he deserved. Stopped him from making my drink and left immediately. Super weird and sad behavior for a guy that age. Will never be going back. Hopefully a better bar takes its place soon because the patio space is awesome!

I'm assuming all bars in Austin suck just like this one. Girl at the front didn't know what a Southside was and proceeded to give my friend the nastiest ranch water. I pretty much assume this is representative of the rest of the bars here. I just shouldn't expect much, I guess.

Last Saturday I and my friend tried to get in Grackle and I was denied entry for no reason. I approached the entrance with a glass of water that was given to me in the vintage clothing store down the street. The bouncer said he couldn’t let me in with a drink. I told him it was water and that I could throw it away. I asked him if it’s just the patio or there’s a bar inside. He said it was just the patio. I told him it looked a bit slow and we were going to skip. Then I saw that there was a bar inside and wanted to check it out. I was surprised the bouncer would lie about it. I threw my glass with water away and when I presented my ID to the bouncer, he said that he couldn’t let me in. When I asked why, he responded it was because I came with a drink form another bar. First of all it was water. No bar would let me walk out with a drink. Secondly, I threw it away. The bouncer was very rude. I asked to speak to the manager and he wouldn’t call the manager. I was left with a feeling that I was being discriminated based on my ethnicity. The bouncer didn’t have any compelling or reasonable excuse not to let me in. I have never ever been denied entry anywhere. I’m a former model and have always had promoters pull me out of the line to walk me into the clubs in Vegas/New York City/Los Angeles. I was left very distressed by this incident. Tried to call this place and no one is picking up. Sent a message on Facebook messenger- nobody responded. Terrible business.

Decent spot for drinks. Unfortunately I got my car towed WHILE I was inside drinking. They told me it was out of their control. While I was outside calling my wife. 2 tow trucks showed up towing 2 other cars. These guys are a joke. Should be illegal.

Don't come if you are older or have brown skin. They are racist. We went and David (bouncer) let a white couple in before us and said we were just intoxicated when we hadn't even drank. It was so clear. Don't come here if you are any other color other than white. We spoke to the person in charge "Stacy" and she was just as bad. She wasn't the manager but wouldn't give us the manager's name. I'm an Austinite (lived here all my life) and definitely wouldn't recommend this place. In fact, I've never been here and I can live without it. All they kept saying was to go to Liberty and they would let us in. I was done after this interaction. Don't give them your money!

This is supposed to be a LBTQ+ friendly bar. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. The bar backs Jeff and James attempt to start fights and are wildly intoxicated at work. My group was attacked by a drunk guy and the employees came in and put their hands on my wife. We were all in shock when they, the workers, climbed over table and yelled like the cops. The entire time taking our food and drinks away. No idea what happened. It was a terrible end to the night and I will never go back. 0/10 recommend.

Worst door guy I’ve ever encountered. Went here on Friday night and was unreasonably denied entrance. He then escalated the situation on some sort of power trip. While standing there calmly talking with my hands behind my back, he put his hand around my throat. Not sure what type of experience you are trying to provide when your door guy feels he has the authority to choke somebody who is calmly standing there. I would say “be better” but from reading the previous comments, it seems they have no hope. Needless to say, I would avoid this place if I were you.

I’ve been here a few times and always enjoyed myself, however last night I went out with 10 of my out of town co-workers and we were kicked out for being “too drunk.” I’ll admit we had a few drinks but none of us were falling down or sick and have to say there was no reason for us to get told to leave other than the fact the bouncer didn’t like the look of our group — we were a diverse group. The first half of the group walked in no problem, however by the end of the group which was where the diversity was the bouncer started harassing our party then followed us around inside a few minutes and told us to leave. We went to two bars afterward with no problem and even our Uber driver was surprised when I told her the Grackle claimed we were too intoxicated for their establishment saying she’d seen drunk people and we were not. Anyway, they lost out on our business last night and any future business of mine. There are much better bars along 6th and will spend my money elsewhere.

Zer0-star establishment! Ordered two whiskey soda cocktails, and two vodka cherry sours for two people but was unfairly denied further drinks. The biased staff seemed uninterested and unaccommodating. Even with a generous $30 tip, service remained subpar. Avoid at all cost unless you enjoy poor service. Also note the restrooms are disgusting!

Besides mine read all the other reviews : I've been here two times the first time I came to have a drink and the front door man was nice as I waited for my food across the street. Today I was parked in their parking lot before they opened and someone (lady red hair) came out telling was blocking their entrance for non existent moving trucks and told me the parking was for people coming into the bar only. The amazing part was they weren't even open so I couldn't have been a customer if I wanted to.

Bug flew into my full drink, so I went to the bar to see if I could get a new drink and proceeded to have the worst service from the bald bartender. Gave me the worst attitude and was rude, like it was a chore and he didn't want to be bothered.

C
Clarissa Ventus

Was not welcomed by the bouncer with a very negative attitude. Ignored it. Then we asked who was next to play pool and they were very reluctant to give us a turn. We felt very unwlevomed from the bouncer to the bar. BIPoC. Beware! Do not support this establishment. Be safe.

Cory Phillips

The barmaid we dealt with handled our tab in a way that felt misleading and inappropriate. I advised her that my wife would be coming up later to order a drink on my open tab. When my wife went to the bar and requested something along the lines of Drambuie, she was served a shot of Averna Italian liqueur at $20 for the shot. There was no clarification offered about the fact she was ordering a high price premium drink before serving it. This shows poor communication and lack of transparency. It was an apparent deliberate upsell without informed consent. Either way, the experience left us feeling taken advantage of rather than valued as customers. We will not be returning.

I was attempting to get on the pool table. Got skipped and then told the guy that skipped me that I wanted next because he skipped. I was not abrasive at all. I was sober. The bouncer came up to me 2 minutes later and told me I had to leave and wouldn’t tell me why. Turns out my friend talked to the bouncer later and I was “being too persistent about playing pool”. What does that even mean? This place is unfair and not cool enough to be unfair. Not worth the visit. There are plenty of better bars on east 6th. Go there instead.

The rudest, most consistently unpleasant staff on 6th - especially the bartenders. There’s also some regular (or maybe an employee?), Chris, who just camps out at the bar being openly nasty and weirdly aggressive, like it’s encouraged by the bartenders. It honestly blows my mind that the owner knows how vile this place is and still lets it run like this.

Will Bartlett
Will Bartlett

as you can tell from the 3.2 star overall yelp rating, this place is best to be avoided. The bartender with the mustache and bad tattoos was the most hostile, rude, and unpleasant person I’ve ever come across. If you’re thinking about going here, don’t. The owner must not come in very often or check the reviews, because there’s no way their staff should treat people so poorly, so consistently, and all keep their jobs. Half of them have 10+ reviews specifying how vile they are to customers.

Similarly to a lot of people in these reviews, I was absolutely appalled at how mean the staff was. The mustache man behind the bar was the single rudest person I have ever encountered within a service industry. I took a lime from the open tray (thought that was acceptable, apparently not) and he almost slammed the lid shut on my fingers before proceeding to yell at me endlessly. I apologized multiple times, but he just kept yelling. He seemed like a rotten person and I would advise against anybody giving this place business. I’ve also heard that he has a history of being extra rude to cis white males, which is pretty in line with the way he treated me. For a place that outwardly advertises anti-hate values, they sure are hateful. If 0 stars was an option, that would be my rating.

I will never come here again. I’ve never experienced a staff so needlessly hostile to people who were regulars for years for no reason. The employee who checked our IDs was so offensively rude that our entire group wasn’t able to talk about anything except why that kind of experience even happened. Why ever speak like that? Did the employee want to get into a fight? Did they want us to be certain about feeling unwelcome? I’ll never come here again and will never recommend that anyone come here. Every single bar is better than this. Look at the reviews of any bar on E 6th, something is wrong with this one with this many 1 star experiences echoing the same thing over the past 2 years. Don’t give them your money.

This place is the WORST. Starting with the rude bouncer... and then ending with horrible bartenders with bad attitudes. One bartender told us to "get away from the bar" when there were 15 other people mingling at the bar (Don't know how there were even that many people in that place). Not to mention the atmosphere in there is like stepping into a dirty bathroom. Good luck having a good time here because all the workers SUCK and will make your time there miserable.
