Opinions de Walton's Fancy & Staple Austin
We tried this place twice while visiting Austin. It has a laidback, cozy ambiance and friendly staff. The food is great and there are a lot of options. The shrimp and grits are delicious as well as the pastries we tried. I would definitely recommend it for brunch or a coffee break but it does get busy sometimes.
Such a cozy little coffee shop with the cutest, nature-inspired aesthetic. I had a homemade caramel coffee that was an absolute 10/10, and my friend’s chai latte was the perfect blend. We also tried the egg pastry and a macaron—both delicious! Definitely worth the stop on our way to Dallas.
I look forward to a work lunch at Walton’s. The quaintest interior with the friendliest staff. Food is superb for a cafe/coffee shop. The fancy lunch- half sandwich and soup combo is a good bang or your buck. I always get the soup of the day which has yet to disappoint, always hearty and flavorful. The half sandwich is a pretty decent size, made with fresh ingredients and served with a half pickled pickle, which I love. My only gripe with coming here for lunch is that service is a bit slow because it looks like they have quite a few take out orders. The beautiful ambiance and delicious food make up for it tenfold. I have yet to try the breakfast/entree menu and the coffee/desserts but I shall return for those someday.
We love Walton’s. We’ve eaten there often - for both breakfast and lunch. The food is always excellent and we love the historic building and the vibe. This year we decided to order the Thanksgiving turkey, dressing, and gravy. They were all amazing. The turkey was moist and full of flavor - the best turkey we’ve ever eaten. We highly recommend!
My first visit to Walton's Fancy & Staple this morning turned into one of those rare experiences where great food, thoughtful service, and a little bit of unexpected charm all come together. I had initially tried to place my order online, but technology had other plans for me that morning. My card wouldn’t process, my Wyndham Rewards and promo code refused to cooperate, and I eventually decided the best solution was to walk in and order in person. I arrived during the morning rush, and to make matters slightly more confusing for myself, I noticed a sign at the register indicating “no tabs available.” For a brief moment I thought this meant no credit cards were accepted ( and as someone who easily loses cash, that was a mildly alarming thought. The cashier quickly reassured me that major credit cards were absolutely accepted and immediately put me at ease.) Despite the busy café, the team ( a barista, the cashier, and a waiter-they provided me their nameson a note; However, as cash I misplaced it )handled everything with remarkable patience and grace. They answered my questions, never rushed me, and even allowed me the time to place an additional bundle order. At one point I offered to step aside so the cashier could help the next guest, but she insisted on making sure my order was fully taken care of. Now for the food — which absolutely deserves its own recognition. I ordered the Fancy Lunch “Pick a Pair.” I chose the Walton’s Wedge Salad and half of the Gobble sandwich, along with a side of potato salad. The Walton’s Wedge was exactly what I hoped it would be: crisp little gem lettuce topped with blue cheese crumbles, bacon, onion, tomato, and a beautifully balanced blue cheese dressing. It had that perfect combination of freshness and indulgence that makes a wedge salad so satisfying. The Gobble sandwich was equally delightful. Turkey, provolone, spinach, avocado, balsamic reduction, alfalfa sprouts, and multigrain bread ( but the unexpected star of the show was the cucumber.) In the rush of ordering, I had completely forgotten to order a drink for myself while placing a latte order for someone else. That pickle-bright cucumber turned out to be the most refreshing and surprisingly heroic ingredient of the meal. It was the kind of crisp, cooling bite that reminded me of summers abroad where cucumbers alone can feel like a perfectly refreshing snack. The potato salad was comforting and well balanced (the kind that quietly completes the plate without trying to compete for attention.) But what truly made the visit memorable was the Coffee & Flower Bundle. I ordered a hot latte with Honey Toasted Almond syrup (after asking the cashier which option had less sugar between that and Vanilla Bourbon). She kindly guided me toward the Honey Almond Toasted option, which turned out to be a perfect choice — warm, smooth, and not overly sweet. The bundle also included a rustic mason jar floral arrangement. My only instruction was: “Kindly make something elegant and professional for a gentleman.” They absolutely delivered. The arrangement was stunning. Thoughtfully designed, refined, and perfectly suited for a gentleman’s desk. In fact, several men along my walk back to the Wyndham Resort ( and even inside the Wyndham Club Travel + Leisure management floor ) asked me where I had gotten those flowers. Unfortunately for them, the bouquet was already spoken for. In short: I walked in expecting breakfast and walked out with excellent food, a beautiful floral arrangement, wonderful service, and the feeling that hospitality is truly alive in Austin. Walton’s Fancy & Staple has officially earned a new loyal guest. And of course, given that Walton’s belongs to Austin’s own Sandra Bullock, there was only one small cinematic detail missing. Had I happened to meet her while ordering my latte, I might have enjoyed it even more (perhaps just like that delightful coffee moment in The Proposal.) But honestly, with service this warm and thoughtful, the experience already felt a little bit like a movie scene in Austin.
What a fantastic place! We’ve had brunch and lunch here several times, and every visit has been a great experience. The atmosphere is charming—warm, rustic, and inviting, with that classic Austin vibe. The service is always top-notch: friendly, attentive, and efficient, even during busy hours. The food is consistently delicious. Whether it’s the breakfast sandwiches, pastries, or one of their fresh salads or hot lunch options, everything is thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. The bakery case is always tempting too—don’t skip the desserts! Walton’s has become one of our go-to spots in the city, and we’re always happy to recommend it to friends and family visiting the area. It’s a great blend of quality food, great service, and a cozy atmosphere right in the heart of Austin.
Stopped in to check out the bakery and wasn’t disappointed. Very friendly and quick service! Parking is a little challenging but it’s worth the effort. They had a good variety of items. Fig Brie Pecan tart, Strawberry Chocolate Croissant and Mixed Berry cake yummy!! Love how beautiful the cake was decorated too!
Hard to remember a breakfast this flawless. Everything we ordered hit — not just good, but thoughtful, balanced, and memorable. Here’s the breakdown: • Yogurt & Berries – 4.5/5 Lightly sweet, fluffy yogurt paired with toasted, crunchy granola and perfectly ripe berries. Tart blueberries and a gentle honey drizzle brought balance without overdoing the sugar. Elegant and refreshing. • Avocado Toast – 5/5 The base: toasted yet tender bread. Tangy pickled onions, creamy crumbled goat cheese, and a genuinely soft-boiled egg (moist, not dry!). A touch of pepperoncini sauce added zing without overpowering. It felt elevated and complete. • Breakfast Sandwich (Biscuit + Turkey Sausage) – 5/5 Unreal. The biscuit had structure without being dry or heavy. Herb aioli kept it moist, while the turkey sausage and crisp-edged egg made each bite an absolute flavor bomb. Balanced, satisfying, and perfectly executed. • French Toast – 6/5 (yes, seriously) The best French toast I’ve ever had. Insanely fluffy, not a hint of sogginess or density. Topped with berries and a generous swipe of creamy butter — it was almost dessert, but somehow still breakfast. We also had a caramel latte and a drip coffee — both solid. But honestly, the food’s the star here. If you’re in Austin, don’t miss this place. I’d come back just for the French toast alone.
Me and my family loved coming to this place everyday when we were on vacation! The staff was super friendly, welcoming, and very helpful! The General Manager Lauren is fantastic too! The food and coffee is delicious here especially the Challah French Toast! They make a really good mocha coffee here too. Their regular coffee/latte is delicious too! I would highly recommend stopping if you are in Austin!!!!!!!!
Fun, casual cafe with extensive food and drink menu complimented by an excellent bakery. The golden egg and black chocolate hearts were wonderful, soft and flavorful inside but crisped just right on the outside. They have two rooms of several tables and are conveniently located along the west Sixth Street strip. They have happy hour Thursday through Saturday 3p-5p with discounted food and drinks. They serve great pizza Thursday through Saturday 3p-7p. We loved the sausage and ricotta. There is paid street parking on surrounding streets.
Nice healthier spot for breakfast or a nice lunch. They make decaf coffee if you need decaf. The macaroons were delicious. The granola in the bowl in the picture felt very fresh. I didn’t feel like it came out of a bag in the sprinkle. The overall restaurant was similar, best way to describe it is that it doesn’t feel like it comes out of containers and then it is put together. Easy walking to on Congress affordable. Seating is typical for 2 to 6 people
Great food, outstanding service and relaxing atmosphere. Excellent variety of hot and cold sandwiches, salads, soups and beverages. Highly recommend checking it out!
I will Definitely come back ! Waltons has it all !! Established in 1969 as Waltons Florist, you should see what they have now ! Today was perfect. Able to get a late lunch, finish work while at a perfect outside people watching spot. Seriously the tour guide stopped the Big Island Duck Adventure Bus to give the history of the place. That was fun ! Food - Delicious Service- Place had several customers and was able to serve in 10 minutes to my table. Cashier - Super friendly, and funny. The history in this place is beautiful. Thank yall for your service 🙏
I love this place! They also sell plants and have amazing baked goods. My favorite part is the seating options: both open seating for bigger groups and more secluded seating for smaller groups/ more quiet.
YUM! They have the best croissants!! I tried the goat cheese, jam croissant and WOW. It was delicious. Their croissants are perfectly made. Kudos to the baker. This place is always busy. This cafe is super cute. I have ordered a red velvet cheesecake from them as well, and it was delicious.
Kindest staff! Went above and beyond for us today. The coffee and breakfast were delicious.
Fair prices, great ambiance. I would highly recommend this for a quick breakfast spot, or even a place to take your next hipster insta-photo. You order from the counter and then sit, food is brought to you. Water, condiments and utensils are in the back left corner on a little counter. Cute plants and artsy things are for sale and extra seating is available in the back.
What a gem! This is one of my favorite places in Austin. Great healthy food, terrific coffee and superb staff. The manager Lauren and the rest of the staff are beyond welcoming. Lovely. Thank you for being our home base!
Ok, I'll admit I came here because I heard it was Sandra Bullock's restaurant, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the Carmel latte and it was excellent. Breakfast options looked great but we got in late and tried the sandwiches. Both the Roast Beef Bleu and the Reuben were really good. Friendly staff and warm atmosphere.
Wonderful French toast and quiche. Very light but also rich. Must try the French toast! Good service too! A salad was served next to the quiche, greens topped with berries and red onion. I know the side salad is an afterthought, but even still…very strange.
Good lattes. We took combos of soup and salad/ sandwiches. Both the onion soup and the tomato basil soup were good. Bakery items looked tasty as well, but we haven’t tried. Unfortunately they didn’t have the full menu when we were there. Couple of tables outside and many more inside. The bathrooms were super clean.
Pictures tend more bright and sterile than the real experience. To me this is a warm inviting place, laid back, counter service with table delivery. Reminds me of the small tx town restaurant of last century. Biscuits and gravy is my go to. Sandwiches are great too. Food is well prepared and sweets counter is outstanding.
Great ambience for brunch. I ordered crab benedict, which came with a bowl of fruit. Both were made with fresh ingredients and tasted excellent. The latte was also good. They also have a lot of fresh baked goods and local products to purchase. One thing I would like to see improved is a greeting upon entering. We had to look around wondering where to go. From the time we placed our order though, service was friendly.
I am always looking for the best avocado on toast and this seriously is one of my top ones! The staff is friendly cause I honestly wanted to try something else the “Shallah French Toast” even the employe suggested and offered me that I could try a piece but I still decided on the avocado ad no regrets cause next time and I will be back and try the French Toast. The ambiance is perfect as there is even a flower shop inside. Definitely a stop to seat and have breakfast, lunch or just a cup of coffee.
1June2024 EXCELLENT southern customer service. The lady working at 2pm(ish) was so ingauging a welcoming. Super clean, air conditioned, and well kept bakery w/a flower shop in the back. I had the berries & creme mousse. This was so delicious and every bit was inviting me back for another bit. The preserves at the bottom of the white chocolate square was just the amount of sweet to romance your tastebuds and tantalize your pallet. The macaroons have a such a wonderful and colorful selection. My daughter chose the Circus Animal & Snickerdoodle and she said, “it’s like biting into a cloud. They look nice and fluffy. The music in here is the right volume. Not sure the genre, but it sounds good. The vibes are nice in here. Excellent day out for a couple of sweet treats. Things are pricey in here and made with southern pride. It is worth it. Sandra Bullocks spot is nice, quaint, and love the rustic charm. Great first time visit.
Thank you Lauren, Kristin, and your staff for always creating a great customer experience. Besides the great tasting and decorative cakes your pastry chef has bake for us, your customer service has always been amazing. Again, your pastry chef has knocked out of the ball park with our most recent birthday cake order. Can’t wait to enjoy the delicious looking cake. : ) Thank you!!!
Walton's is a cute and classic bakery/coffee shop. It has a back room that is great for a large party to rent out. There are many different type of plants & succulents that can be bought here as well as delicious food. Went on a Saturday morning and it was very busy. The parking is street parking the do not have a parking lot.
We stopped here because we got a discount thru our hotel. The staff was excellent. The Bistro is cute inside. I love the plant decor. We both ordered the breakfast tacos. I had one meat and one veggie. My buddy had two veggies. The eggs were light and fluffy and they had a decent amount of meat /veggies in the tacos. My friend had an iced coffee and it was a nice pick me up. We also both got a bakery item. I had the matcha and honey macaroon and she had the Danish. Both were delicious. The Danish was light and fluffy instead of being dense and I loved it. If your looking for something light this is a perfect stop.
Adorable and sweet little coffee shop, with wonderful pastries, salads and sandwiches. Just had their steel cuts oatmeal and it was hands down THE MOST SCRUMPTIOUS Oatmeal of my life. Staff is nice. Coffee is tasty. Only downside is parking downtown can be a challenge. But if you are walking, it's perfect!
So excited to hear about this gem from a friend that happened to be visiting the area. Please consider the wait time, as this quaint eatery is in high demand .. as they should be! The entrees were really delicious and taste of fresh farm to table ingredients! The French Toast has an unique crave worthy flare, as does the spicy Shrimp & Grits! We cannot wait to return! 💜
The coffee here is exceptional, #2 on our personal list of coffee shops. We also had a salt oat cookie and it was delicious.
My gf and I both ordered a turkey sweet sandwich and shared a bowl of tomato soup (because as you can tell it’s pretty big). The sandwich is on a slightly larger croissant bun. A sweet sauce and bacon, it’s one of my favorite sandwiches in Austin. The tomato soup is a great addition to this sandwich. Favorite dessert there is probably my the Golden Egg.
Loved it so much, we ate breakfast both days of our stay. The shrimp grits had perfectly cooked shrimp with a cheesy bit of a spicy bite! The Challah French toast was a rich variation topped with sweetened mascarpone cheese and fresh strawberries. Tried the avocado toast the second visit. The pickled radish and soft cheese sets this apart. Prices at breakfast were reasonable. $11 for the shrimp grits.
Outstanding food, drinks, price and vibe. I had wanted to visit for a long time knowing that Sandra Bullock owns the place. I loved that it did not have anything about her or Hollywood in it. The foods and especially the sweets are amazing!! Cannot wait to take the hubby next time!
Was my go to spot nearly every day when I lived around the corner from here. Place is awesome! Old school building. A bit tight, but worth it for the cool atmosphere. Outdoor seating is super tight. Can’t say enough good things about the food and drinks. Miss this place quite a bit. Not in the neighborhood anymore. Try the French toast and thank me later.
This restaurant is very clean and has a good fresh food. We learned that owner is famous actress. We liked atmosphere and friendly service ❤️. I loved taste of bread 🥖 and it was backed, not from store. I also bought a couple of backed sweets ❤️. Designed and organized wisely ❤️🌹🌹🌹 We will come back 😀
It is one of the nice spots for breakfast in Austin. I adore their rustic-chic interior and the pleasant atmosphere. The service is friendly, and you can certainly find something delicious for breakfast. I highly recommend trying the ham & egg tartine – it's fantastic! The crispy bread, topped with herb aioli, and the combination of ham and Swiss cheese pair perfectly with your morning coffee.
This is my absolute favorite bakery/cafe in the entire city of Austin. The location is incredible, it’s inside a redone old building making the atmosphere incredibly charming. Every time I go in the people working there have been so kind and helpful. The latte art on the matcha latte always makes my day so much brighter! I would recommend their stuffed croissants and the iconic golden egg!
I have not been back to Walton's since 2022 and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that they now have chicken sausage on their breakfast menu! I ordered a biscuit sandwich with of course, chicken sausage and it was made with a herb aioli that was surprisingly good. My husband chose the eggs Benedict and enjoyed it. I love that your food is not just made to order, but lovingly, made it order. I couldn't help but notice the presentations of each dish and I really appreciated the attention to detail to each plate. Waltons is also one of the very few places you can get a good sandwich or salad without breaking the bank. The dessert case is always extremely tempting, but I settled for the honey lavender latte instead.
This is such a cute place owned by Sandra Bullock. A good place to eat and buy souvenirs, plants and flowers. Cash or credit cards only. No Apple Pay. The vibe is serene and welcoming unless you end up sitting next to really young kids. There is plenty of seating and they have a few tables outside too if you prefer that. The bakery items are reasonably priced, but some of the menu items are overpriced if you ask me. I ordered a bowl of their soup du jour (chicken enchilada) which was delicious. There’s a variety of canned and bottled drinks on top of their menu items. They have a happy hour Thursday through Saturday.
Dessert selection and brunch/savory food is quite amazing and the coffee is pretty good. It’s a cute little spot on 6th with a cozy atmosphere for you to have a cup of coffee or have a Fika (coffee and a small dessert). I got some cream puffs, however the shell felt more like a cookie than choux pastry. The filling was quite yummy. I’d come back to try more of the selection!
Love this spot during off-hours! Trick is to go early morning before the brunch rush hits. Their coffee is brewed well, and service is always very friendly (they added cinnamon to my coffee upon request). Only tried the golden egg before - which was light, fluffy, and spiced like a snickerdoodle cookie - but it was delicious. A nice complement to coffee!
This is mainly a deli but there is a small flower store in the back. We came after 1:00 only to find a dozen people in line to order at the counter. When we left after 2:00 there was a dozen people in line though that varied while we were eating. This is obviously a popular spot for good reason. My spouse likes her crisp and toasted bread and the ability to order what she wanted on her sandwich. I loved the flavor of his tomato soup. The pastrami will never be confused with Katz Deli but the bread made for a fine sandwich. The half sandwich and soup is more than enough for lunch.
I recently visited this coffee shop, and I have mixed feelings about my experience. The avocado toast was absolutely delicious, but the chai tea latte left me a bit disappointed due to its overpowering cardamom flavor. The cashier's attitude was less than friendly, which was a downside, but the rest of the staff were incredibly welcoming and made up for it.
Food was decent enough the service was a bit frigid not what ( owner) Sandra Bullock would want I'm sure. No warm smiles, they make you wait in line for your drink before you even pay, and odd condescending response when we asked if the egg was fried hard " I think it's implied that its hard when it says fried".
A simple cafe that sells food, pastries, and coffee, tucked between busy nightlife bars on 6th. The service is average, a little slow at times, and counter only (although they will bring dishes to you). The food is all tasty and the have a very wide selection of baked goods and desserts to enjoy.
This was a great spot for a quick lunch! Get the half sand which and half salad combo! It’s enough food. (I asked girl if they had any combos and she said no, then I read the menu and saw they were!!!) anyways, it was a good option from more expensive restaurants around here. Something light and tasty. Combo was $13 and cup of soup $4. I had spent $75 the previous night at a restaurant in the canopy hotel and the food wasn’t worth it. So I didn’t wanted to make the same mistake for lunch.
I haven't been in years (maybe 10) but new social media ads made me go back... it didn't taste the same. Purchased 6 items and threw away most. I tried them all but many were dry... I only finished 2, chocolate cake & tiramisu chocolate cup. I love tiramisu but there wasn't a depth of flavor nor texture.
Walton’s Fancy and Staple is a bakery/cafe with a decent variety of options to choose from as well as a quaint and welcoming interior. We went on a warm afternoon when it wasn’t too busy and looking for a quick sweet treat. Since it’s directly on 6th be mindful of parking since that may be an issue, just as a heads up. There’s a good assortment of pastries to choose from and we settled on a chocolate birthday cake macaroon and one of their chocolate hearts. The workers seem very happy and friendly but they did take a while to work through the line and also get our stuff ready to go. Once we got our things we ended up taking it to go but ate it within a few minutes of stepping out. The chocolate birthday cake macaroon was good, but not stellar. It does a good job as tasting as it would be advertised, but it wasn’t anything we felt you couldn’t get at another bakery. Similarly, the chocolate heart was good, but not as good as you would expect for something coming out of a place dedicated to baking. That might seem a bit harsh, but let us clarify that their baked goods are much better than store bought, just not as good as we had hoped them to be. We will definitely be back if in the area to give them another shot, hopefully for brunch so we can try out some more of their other options as well.
Found an article online raving about the French toast.. drove all the way from Buda just to try it.. So sorry to say i will never give any more money to this restaurant again. Very rude staff, Danny specifically, working the register. French toast had good flavor,, but was dry.. Definitely not "soaked" overnight. All of the rest of the breakfast was good.. that first interaction that is so crucial to the rest of the experience was so horrible it ruined what might have been a reason for repeat business. Won't be back.
I come here somewhat often cause it's close to the office. The food is pretty good. Cheesecake brownie is awesome and lunch is tasty. It's also just a cool place. Lots of plants and cool stuff throughout. My biggest complaint is that the service is SLOW. It has always felt a little under staffed to me and you have to wait a long time in line to get your order in. Then it takes a long time for food to come out. Staff is friendly though!
Great sandwiches and a cool place, but the past two times we have gone there for lunch have both taken close to an hour to get our food. Used to go here often, but won't go back due to the wait. I would give it a lower rating, but we're watching The Heat and my wife loves Sandra Bullock.
This place is trendy and very Austin feels, recommended highly but I was underwhelmed. The line on the weekends here is pretty ridiculous. You stand in a line to order, they give you a number and your food is brought out. Even though the place is big, there's not very many table options for large parties. We had 4 in our group and I maybe saw 3 tables that could accommodate. So we got the avocado toast, granola and fruits, jalapeño grits, the caprese sandwich and their house made special lattes. We waited a good 15-20 minute for some of our foods, then waited another 10-15 minutes for the rest of the food. And when we were more than half way done, they still didn't bring my coffee! The coffee was bland, no flavor at all. The avocado toast, there was just nothing memorable about it. I didn't personally like the goat cheese in it. I've definitely had much much better. The parfait was also a bit of a disappointment. Overall, i didn't think the meal was worth the money and wait. I would probably skip this brunch option
Other than being served lukewarm coffee, the food was fairly acceptable. But the part that really chapped me is the takeout/leftovers food containers are #7 plastic, which is not recyclable. Really? Wake up and get recyclable/compostable takeout food containers!!! I won't eat there again.
Found this great low key brunch outfit quite by accident, boy am I better for it! I had the crab cake eggs Benedict and the potato hash, with the exception of a little too much seasoning on the hash, the meal was outstanding! The Ms had the Gouda Shrimp & Grits, no words. 4 STAR FOOD, 2 STAR SERVICE! 07212019. UPDATE - Had rhe horrible experience of standing in line for 30", in a 1/2 empty restaurant, (see photos)! If this is service I'll pass, completely inexcusable. Whoever the Manager is should be fired for not removing the obviously incompetent( most likely due to a lack of training, but who knows, maybe just a bad day). Nonetheless, the customer, you know, the WHOLE REASON FOR BEING IN BUSINESS, should not suffer, and will definitely not pay for it!
I was excited to order the Caesar wrap since I’ve heard it’s the best in town, and spent about $30 for it including delivery fees + tip. The chicken is so chewy and dry… I had to chew each bite 100 times and after a few bites I gave up and threw it away. They need to make fresh chicken, not use old stuff… especially when they charge $18+tax for 1 wrap.
