It's a very busy cafe, but not super loud. Great atmosphere and as someone with ADHD, it was a bit overwhelming going alone. If I had someone else with me, then it would have been better. I will definitely be going back again, as I love the food! I had the #16 with coffee, a slice of cheesecake with strawberries and whipped cream. I also got a cinnamon roll to go! I sat at the counter, I asked where would be best from the person showing me to my seat, it was fast and the best service! There was one lady running the whole counter and she was wonderful. She made my very first visit there a pleasant visit and she was the best at getting everyone in and out! She even made sure to give me the proper instructions on how to reheat it. She also made sure everyone had what they needed and made sure food came out hot and fresh!

This was my first time at this neat nostalgic gem. I was part of a large group eating breakfast. The wait staff did a great job taking care of us and getting our meals to us in a timely fashion. I ordered a fried egg on top of tortilla with hash browns. I think it came out really good. The eggs were cooked great and the hash browns were cooked to a wonderful crispiness on the outside and yet super tender on the inside. I will definitely be coming back, this was really good. I also should commend the staff even further. They did a really great job working together and making my group was taken care of. It's unusual to never have an empty coffee cup, but they pulled it off. I can't wait to go back and try their lunch specials..... On a side note, this place is packed with a lot of nostalgic items. One thing that really stood out to me was an old fire engine pedal car, I wish I had one as a kid, it looks really awesome.

One of the best places in Bakersfield for brunch and breakfast. We usually go here on Sundays and it’s always busy and there is at least about 20 minutes of wait time. But the food is delicious and worth the wait, if you’re flexible and don’t wanna wait too long there’s always room at the counter which what we usually pick. The Cajun seafood is delicious, definitely recommend this place.

Came here for three meals in a row, had two breakfasts and a lunch. The food was phenomenal, the service was kind, prompt, and attentive, and the vibes were the peak of chill diner goodness. This place was awesome! I spoke to several locals who said they eat here every single day, and I can see why! The place feels great, the prices are good, and the menu is extensive, I could eat every meal here for the rest of my life and be perfectly happy. But alas, I’m from out of town so I’ll have to make a trip back soon. This place really is the best!

Stopped in and had the deep pit pork omelet, and it was absolutely delicious!! Hashbrowns were nice and crispy. Food was served quick and hot.

The 24th Street Cafe is my go-to spot for breakfast in Bakersfield. I sit up at the counter and Donna always takes the best care of me, keeping my coffee cup full. I’m a creature of habit so I don’t usually stray from my scrambled eggs, sausage patty, potatoes and toast but the other things I’ve had have been great too!

S

Has a long wait every time I've been here. Only reason for a 4* service. Usually come for mothers day, so maybe that is why. That isn't really something the restaurant can control in the end. Food is good, their 1/2 pound burger patties are 1/2 a pound when it gets to the table. White Russian is a good size for the price and of a good strength. All in all I would recommend.

M
Michael Kilpack

Extremely large portions for breakfast! First time here, not our last. Parking is tight...very professional staff.

I will always recommend this place for anybody who is visiting Bakersfield or lives in Bakersfield. They got really good breakfast and lunch, everything I have tasted from here is great 👍 Highly recommend the pumpkin pancakes 🥞

Very unsuspecting Resturant for my first time. I didn’t know what to expect looking at the place from the outside, but once I stepped in all of my concerns drifted away! Fabulous menu, great service and the Cajun Omelette I had was most exceptional!

Food was excellent and so fresh! I ordered the waffle and it was crispy and light and came with homemade peanut butter on the side! I also ordered the country fried steak and it didn’t look so appetizing but the flavor was so yummy! It was lightly hand breaded not made from a frozen patty. Now every time I visit Bakersfield I’ll be coming here!

Would drive down this street on a daily, decided to stop by and give it a try. The space is a bit small for a large group like mine. I highly recomend the pastramy sandwich and the thunderbird sandwich but a breakfast MUST is the cinnamon role with whipped butter its busy in the morning so if you dont want to wait go around 11ish... but def def will come back

Absolutely delicious!!! 1st time here & sat next to 'Jim' who's been coming there for 27 years! Donna was an AWESOME waitress! Had the poached trout with over easy egg & hash browns - OMG!!!

Really enjoyed breakfast here. Staff super friendly. Great menu choices and food came out quickly. Parking lot near building and then around corner so plenty of places. Had a breakfast sandwich and it was bigger than I planned on. Husband had his big breakfast and was rallying happy with it. Patio seating counter table and booth.

24th Street Cafe has been a staple in Bakersfield for over 30 plus years. They are open for breakfast and lunch only. 24th Street Cafe is one of the top places to eat breakfast at in Bakersfield. Lunches are equally as good. I’ve eaten here numerous times over the years, they have consistently been served fresh, hot and delicious. Everything is always great. Most of the waitress’s have worked here for years. Donna was my waitress and she did an outstanding job. They do get very busy here so come early.

What a great old school diner spot for breakfast. We were on our way up to Kern river for a two day rafting trip. We didn’t order anything special but it was really tasty. The biscuits and pancakes were really good. The service was friendly and prompt even though they were busy.

This place was so cute and small and we were greeted by the nicest servers ever. Holly was our waitress and she was one of the best I ever had in my life! I’ve lived mostly vegetarian For the last seven years of my life And whenever I eat out, I always have to ask if I can make certain things vegetarian or what options they have. When I mentioned to Holly that I was vegetarian without hesitation, she started listing off all of the things they had on the menu and certain things they had off the menu that were vegetarian and I have never had that happened to me in the seven years I’ve been vegetarian. It was so nice feeling included and not having to ask and someone being educated about it. She was extremely attentive and personable and we will be back for her! The food was also, very authentic absolutely amazing. I got hashbrowns, sourdough bread, and eggs, and my partner had a New York steak sandwich. Everything was made with care and it all looked fresh. I left the decorations in this establishment and everything was just amazing. I can’t believe we just barely found this place. we will definitely be back. We had an amazing amazing time.

I can not wait to come back here and try everything on the menu. I'm from Orange County and the bougie trendy restaurants can't even compare to the gem that this restaurant and its' food is. I had the stuffed fresh toast with cream cheese & strawberries and it was so delicious. The coffee was great and the ambiance of the place was perfect. Can't wait to try guy fieries favorites too.

Classic Americana food. We had chicken and waffles, because we could! They let our little doggie come in which was wonderful. Very family friendly, and an extensive menu. Parking can be tight. There is often to wait on the weekends. Weekday, no problem.

Amazing service! Excellent food: we had a chili verde omelette and chilaquiles. Portions are huge.

The location is on a one way road (24th). The parking lot has limited parking. It's a cafe not some extravagant location. The decor reminds you of diners in the past. The indoors has benches and a counter sitdown on the inside. They built a covered outside dining area which happens to be heated. The food was excellent as it always has everytime i've eaten here. The service is excellent and friendly.

Amanda, our server gave us amazing service. First time here and my experience was beyond comparable. Food was amazing, you can tell it's from scratch. Want to come here as much as I can. If you have to wait, it's worth it!

Do not judge a book by it's cover!! Located in Bakersfield,CA this is a gem in the rough. We decided to try this Triple D recommendation after much debate. It is a small little diner that is nestled between some pretty big buildings. But the sign on the building will lead you to the diner. It's small. Quaint. Cozy. Not for anyone who is looking for ohh and ahhs of the atmosphere. Adorned with oars, diving flippers, and small scale canoe and antique fishing rods this place has an inviting aroma of breakfast and nostalgia immediately upon entering. There were 4 of us on this trip and we each decided to try something different from the massive menu laced with plenty of drooling choices from breakfast to lunch. I chose stuffed avocado with fresh crab and tomato salad, and my friends ordered homemade chorizo with potatoes, stuffed french toast with eggs, and lastly chili Verde. No pictures because before we knew it we were all driving into this fiercely delicious ensemble of plates. We all had a bite of each other's plate and we were all thoroughly satisfied with each plate. 2 of us ordered Mimosa (delivered with a glass of oj, a small bottle of champagne (can't remember the name) and a beautiful glass to mix to our hearts desire. Also had a cup of coffee that was delivered with your choice of creamer. And before we left we ordered a short stack each of pumpkin pancakes and blueberry pancakes. The only picture I took of this dining affair!! And they were delicious when I had them the next day reheated!! My friends and I split the pancakes so we each could enjoy them. This place has so much to offer and we didn't have the belly space or time to enjoy it all. But I'll definitely be back for more if I'm ever heading around the area again. Thank you for all the hard work and scrumptious food!!

This little place packs quite a punch when it comes to their dishes. Just simple, delicious items that keep you coming back for more. I've been a fan since the early 90s. For me, everything is worth coming here. It's just great comfort food. We get our food pretty fast and are always well taken care of. I love getting the chicken fried steak and eggs and hashbrowns and toast.. with a side of extra gravy. For sure, we come here every year for breakfast for my B-day. This place never disappoints. The atmosphere is great and the wait time isn't very long. Once you try this place, you will become a loyal customer 🥰🥰🥰🥰So hurry up and stop on by for some amazing food. 😋

Surprisingly excellent service here for a small restaurant. The food tastes home made and the best of all. Reasonably priced, not expensive at all. I always like to try each restaurants version of French toast. This restaurant's French toast is delicious comes with bacon and maple syrup. It was a really great experience, and I would recommend this place for breakfast.

First time eating here, and we ate breakfast. I had the Cajon seafood omelet friend had Chicken fried steak and eggs, and was Finomanally delicious! I tried to eat here years ago since I'm in a wheelchair,we couldn't fit in the dinner we had left but since then they added the outside extension and it has plenty of room now and it's absolutely delicious food, Parking sadly is a pain in the backside. Highly recommend we'll worth waiting in the long line.

Passing through on the 99. 1st timer. PUMPKIN PANCAKES - a must! Has pecan butter on top. No syrup needed - delicious. My mom and I split them (2 big pancakes) and the mashed potato and eggs plate. Dad says the Chile verde omelette has a slight hint of spice to it. Not overwhelming but good (coming from my Mexican dad) - Amelia our waitress was great. She split up our plates for us, without asking. Love that. Hubby had a very fresh chicken fried steak. And the biscuits are light, airy, and crumbly and delicious with the gravy. Highly recommend to get a few different plates and share. Check out the specials. A definite must if you are trying to visit cafes that were on the show “Diners, drive-ins, and Dives” Come hungry.

Brought my aunt and wife to breakfast here and had one of the most amazing breakfast experiences ever. We were very lucky to arrive when we did. We were seated quickly and well taken care of by Clarinda. She was courteous and quick, accommodating and helpful, friendly and professional. Food was abundant in portions and flavorful. This is my new Bakersfield breakfast spot. Don't get here too late or expect a wait.

The food is amazing; be sure to try the seafood Cajun omelette, which is outstanding, and the 16 oz steak and eggs with homemade chimichurri sauce, it is hands down one of the best steak in Bakersfield! This establishment has significantly improved its customer service over the past few years, thanks to the addition of new hostesses, who are exceptionally friendly and accommodating.

Friendly staff. One of the best pastrami sandwiches I've had. The meat was not too salty like other pastrami sandwiches I've had. The meat is tender and moist. They even provide you with a side of au jus from the meat. Great to dip this sandwich in. Will be back to try more menu items. Highly recommend this place.

So great! I can't say enough good things about this place. The food is excellent. The value for the money is off the charts, and did I mention how good the food is? The Steak & eggs, the biscuits and gravy, and the chicken fried steak are off the charts.

I stopped here on the way from Yosemite to LA. Both service and food were excellent. The interior is classic diner, and as a tourist from Europe I loved the authenticity of this place. Manager greeted regulars personally. Our sandwiches were excellent - like homemade. Definitely a place I will return to whenever I drive through Bakersfield.

This is the downtown Bakersfield “go to“ place to eat breakfast and lunch. The food is great, served quickly and the prices are reasonable. Because of everything in the last paragraph, you can anticipate a 5 to 10 minute wait for a table. But, it is worth it.

M

Stopped here on the way to Disneyland and everything was so good we stopped by on the way home to try a few other things. The food and staff are beyond reproach. It will now be a destination for us. I've been trying to get a picture of my food but I can't resist diving in so there's a pic of half of my food. HA

What an excellent breakfast spot! We stopped by on our way through town and am sure glad we did. They have an extensive breakfast menu from pancakes to fish tacos and everything in between. The location is a classic old school diner with good service to match. I highly recommend the pumpkin pancakes! We went on a Saturday morning and didn't have any problems walking right in and getting a booth.

Big Flavor, Big Portions, Old-School Vibes If you’re hungry and want a real Bakersfield classic, 24th Street Café delivers. The pound steak and eggs with potatoes, biscuits and gravy hit the spot — hearty, perfectly cooked, and seasoned just right. Portions are generous without skimping on quality, so you definitely get your money’s worth. The location is easy to get to, the atmosphere has that post-school, old-fashioned diner energy, and the staff make you feel like family. Good food, good people, and good prices — this is exactly what a neighborhood diner should be. Highly recommended!

Corn bread breakfast was so 😋 yummy...delicious cooked mushroom with green onions topped the cornbread with two poached eggs...can't wait to go back and try other menu items. The service was fantastic....a real popular place. Updated June 2024 Back in Bakersfield excited to have something different on the menu… today I had turkey sandwich with fresh fruit, my friend had a patty melt, also ordered turkey dip sandwich … I like the blueberry pie … yummy

Wife and I are huge Food Network watchers and Guy Fieri fans. I always plug in places I want to visit and 24th Street Cafe was one I had saved because I’m a big Chili Lover. Had the Texas Size with Onion, wife had the Pastrami Sandwich on Sour Dough with fries. Place has an zing feel to it, nostalgic decor with a super staff. Jacob was our server and had great suggestions for us but mine was set on Chili. Glad we were able to make the trip after seeing Triple D and the Chili made here. Food was fantastic, super clean place and easy to find.

Edited Review I can only say one thing. GO TO THE 24TH STREET CAFE! Unfortunately I accidentally deleted the photos. But GO. I recommend the Fried Trout and Eggs. It is SOOOOO good. I am drooling just thinking about it. Try the cold Tri-Tip Sandwich. Great! Had to get the biscuits and gravy also. Once again I went to the 24th Street Cafe. Once again it was EXCELLENT. I had the American Omelet, fried potatoes and of course Biscuits and Gravy. The Omelet was perfect. The potatoes crisp and hot . The Biscuits and Gravy DIVINE. What more could a person want at breakfast.. Oh, wait. I almost forgot about Donna, my server. Donna always works the counter. Not only is she an excellent server, she is very nice. If you don't sit at the counter, make sure to say hi anyways.

This place is the best. Believe all the terrific reviews. Naomi, our server at the counter was so attentive and wick getting our order to us. Our coffee never dipped more that a quarter down before we got a refill. We had the trout, cinnamon roll(yes, it's covered in butter), and strawberry crepes. We had lots of leftovers but we were just stuffed!! This is a definite winner!!!

Feel: Marvelous brekky food in a traditional 50-60s diner style. Pro tip: If you go on a Sunday you will encounter the intense church masses but just say you're cool with bar seats and you'll sit in 10-15 mins even during peak breakfast hour. The food: classic but effective dishes from the best French dip you'll ever have to the homemade peanut butter made for you on the spot with their vintage machine. It's cool to see. The service: above average and solid kindness from servers. They are genuinely good people. Conclusion: go this Sunday or die in depression eating your cereal and grilled cheese at home.

24th Street Cafe is a Bakersfield staple. Awesome environment offering indoor and covered outdoor patio. Interiror decorating brings out the Bakersfield vibes nicely. Our service is always prompt and friendly. Most importantly, the food is bomb! I usually get some kind of breakfast with a Latin flare to it. The breakfast menu was available for us in the afternoon, which is nice. I got the New York Rancheros, and the ol lady got the sausage and eggs. We ordered a side of eggs and spinach for the little one, and the portions were awesome. Biscuits and gravy are options that come with meals and are soooooo good. I do wish they offered a benedict(maybe in the future??😉🤤) We love branching out and checking out different local breakfast joints, but it's hard not to dine in at 24th Street Cafe every time!

I always wondered why there was a good line outside this place whenever I drove by and I finally know why! I had breakfast here and it’s such a lovely spot with great service. I picked the cinnamon roll which is really not a smart pick for your main. It’s very good but like ordering a decadent dessert. It’s wonderful that they carry Coke drinks.

24th is an iconic spot in Bakersfield. It serves delicious traditional americana breakfast as well as some delicious lunch items and unique, fluctuating specials. Their 50's diner decor give a blast to the past dining feel. Their friendly, attentive staff, and welcoming family environment is what keeps people coming back! Be aware, because of how good it is there might be a wait, but it is so worth it.

An absolute treasure! You enter in nostalgia inducing atmosphere that is fresh and clean. I was immediately greeted and seated. The server "waitress" was already bringing me water with a warm morning smile and asked "coffee?" I nodded a yes and ended up ordering the chicken fried chicken with biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes and scrambled eggs. Everything was cooked perfectly. The cooks in the back worked in sync like poetry in motion! They had moves! I sat there taking in the pleasant surroundings and ended up chatting with a couple of regulars seated on opposite sides of me. It felt like home. Bravo to the owner who obviously cares and takes great care of the employees, the buildingd, and the business! Thank you for an excellent morning of fabulous food and new friends.

Dog friendly outdoor covered patio seating with a great standard menu. We never have a bad meal here and all picky eaters are satisfied (extreme picky eaters are happy with the a la carte menu too). Chilaquiles and Chile verde omelette are always good options if offered. Good biscuits and gravy.

Went in today with 6 people our server was Jake who took care of everything like nobody's business, calm collective and super chill. 3 of us ordered the 18oz steak medium well and they came back extra well done and kinda on the burnt side, we let our server know and without hesitation he took our plates backs and came back with some of the best medium well steaks I've had since the last time I came here. This place is always super delicious so ill definitely be returning!🫶

Friendliest place in Bakersfield! They have customers walking in and being greeted like I'm in an episode of cheers at 6:30AM it's so incredibly pleasant ! It's a bit pricier than the chain cafes but the atmosphere makes it worth it. Their menu is also more diverse than most places with breakfast menus and boy can that cook make a steak 🤤 Shout out to the wait staff who were SO kind! Unbelievably kind people for how early it is and the fact that this is southern California it's like I found a rural cafe hiding in the city and it's so nice 💕

I am addicted to their pumpkin pancakes. I've tried their Cajun seafood omelette and steak and eggs everyone in the reviews raves about and have never left disappointed. The biscuits and gravy is second to none and their Chile verde has just the right amount of heat. This place is very consistent with the quality of their food and their service. There is no other sit down breakfast restaurant in Bakersfield that can hold a candle to 24th Street Cafe.

You haven't lived until you've experienced the breakfast at 24th Street Cafe in Bakersfield, CA!! It redefines the term "Classic Americana Diner"! Crystal and her co-workers were great during our 7am visit on a Monday morning this summer. We liked the atmosphere inside but the neighborhood is slightly blighted. We did not order the pumpkin pancakes of Food Network game. We got grilled cornbread and ciabata French toast. Hot chocolate was good and our water glasses were refilled like 6 times. Decor is typical diner antique, which is fun for phone free conversation. Cornbread was dry but the mushroom and drizzled flavored it up nicely. Mashed potato has cheese in it which added some extra flavor there. French toast was as expected with fresh berries on top. A variety of patrons, seating options, and knowledge of food allergies added to this pleasant experience.

The whole family loves this place. Wonderful food and Great service. All their specials are amazing. We usually go for brunch and I get the streak and eggs with the chimichurri. The drinks are all great as well.

Breakfast? Just go here. Busy and very good food. We were passing through and decided to try out this "diner/cafe". First of all, the service is amazing. Fast, friendly, and they really take care of you. Our waitress Clarinda really made our day. The biscuit and gravy is amazing. Hash browns really good ( not greasy) and omelets are really good. Very, very good.

Food was good. I had chicken fried chicken and biscuits and gravy($13). Went at 830 am on Tuesday. It was a little busy but service was prompt. Takes time to find parking spot. Cars everywhere makes it seem like the place is packed out but it's really not bad. Walked right in and got a table. Within minutes I was sipping on coffee. Waitress was really prompt and friendly. No flavored coffee creamer. They use pink salt and raw brown sugar which I really liked.

Such amazing food and and a very friendly and great host. We went for brunch on Sunday and had a waiting of 45 mins but the food was totally worth the wait. We loved the food, the house coffee was amazing. I’m very big on hot chocolate but this one was too sweet for my taste. Other than that everything was on point. The portobello mushroom burger was delicious and their fries were the best. We had ordered silver pancakes, Belgian waffles, their famous chicken friend steak and eggs, grilled cornbread, chilli cheese omelette .

The food here was excellent. Zero complaints. The price was perfect for what they serve. If you want to eat somewhere that reminds you of high quality home cooking, this is your spot. I never had to ask for a refill on coffee. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. I visited during a rainy day, and they bring out complimentary coffee to help keep guests warm while they wait outside. They also had standing burners to keep people warm. The booth that I sat at was very spacious. However, the diner itself felt very cramped. Mostly due to his popularity. The bathrooms are clean but inadequate. And the men's restroom there is only one toilet. That absolutely does not accommodate the amount of guests that they have for breakfast.

Good spot for breakfast or lunch. Definitely got that oldschool small town cafe vibe. I got steak and eggs with biscuit and gravy and my wife got crepes. The steak was good and the crepes was filled with too much creme cheese but it was okay. Something noticeable was the Himalayan Salt and the mixed peppercorn grinder. Its a bit tight inside with limited parking. Service was good. Overall its was a good experience.

Quick stop for breakfast before heading back to Vegas. Pretty busy restaurant and I'm glad I got to dine here (cause of the raving reviews on Yelp.) I sat at the bar so it was quick in/out. I didn't want anything heavy so I ordered the French toast with 2 pieces of bacon. The French toast was delicious and I loved the top melted butter. Not a long wait for the food which is great. My server was Amanda and she was very nice and pleasant. Definitely a restaurant I'd recommend for Brunch.

We stopped at 24th Street Cafe on our drive back from Las Vegas to San Francisco based on a Google recommendation. There’s limited seating inside, but there’s an air-conditioned terrace which is a real bonus. The classic diner look and feel delivers on that nostalgic charm, and it’s clear this spot has a devoted local following. The menu is extensive, with lots of the diner staples, but also a number of specials. Our food was delicious, well-prepared, and arrived quickly. Which is exactly what you need when you’re on the move. If you’re passing through Bakersfield, don’t miss this hidden gem. We’ll definitely make it a regular stop on our travels!

I recently visited 24th Street Café, a beloved local diner known for its comforting, scratch-made meals. The staff were welcoming and attentive, contributing to a pleasant dining atmosphere. If you’re in Bakersfield and craving classic American comfort food in a nostalgic setting, 24th Street Café is worth a visit. Just be prepared for potential crowds and parking challenges during busy hours. — Kemoshire | Honest reviews. If I visit it, I review it.

My visit today was extremely underwhelming. I placed an order to go, and the guy over the phone said there is a 15% fee for pick up orders, which i consented to. When I paid for my food items, it was raised to 18%. This is only for ONE order. My food was completely scrambled around in my container. I ordered the Turkey, Tomato, and Egg Omlet. The tomatoes were raw and thrown over my omelet. Except, they decided to cook the turkey in the eggs? The avocado was smashed. The potatoes had NO flavor. For almost $25 dollars on a single meal, this is quite upsetting. I've visited before and the food was amazing. After visiting this time around, there are plenty of other mom and pop diners that offer better food quality without the service fee.

The place is nice to look at least. The food was absolutely disgusting. I got the porkchop and eggs. The pork chop was absolutely atrocious, bland and dry yet the crust was under cooked. How do you manage that. The coffee was watered down. I could go on.

The first time I went there this lady yelled over everyone in the room (she works there). To announce if someone’s car is parked behind her to move it and she described the car , it was mine . It was so embarrassing because she literally got everyones attention and it was dead silent . I never went back or going to go back 😭.

Our family has been eating at this restaurant at least twice a week for the past two years and we get the same meal each time. Pan fried trout with cajun seasoning, hashbrowns and veggies, noting that we have a gluten and dairy intolerance/ allergy. Service was wonderful and food was delicious, so we became regular customers. However, over the last month we have had multiple consecutive incidents in which our food was prepared totally improperly. Plates came out and it looks like our fish was just steamed and thrown on the plate. We were told that the chef that usually makes the fish was on vacation. The server was very kind and apologetic and ended up having the Manager prepare our food that day. We waited over an hour for them to remake our food twice because it was prepared wrong, yet we were still very understanding and said no worries at all. One time we just took it how it was, although it was steamed, we were like at least it looks decent, yet not what we ordered. The other time everyone was arguing in the kitchen about how the fish should have been prepared, yet manager never came out to apologize for anything. We still tipped 30-40% of our bill. Today we decided to speak with the manager before ordering to give him a heads up, with the hope of ensuring we could have a pleasant meal and experience, however, the manager was not pleasant at all. We informed him of what occurred the last several times we dined there and politely asked if he could just speak with the chef so we don't have any issues again. He just shrugged his shoulders, shook his head and said "I'll try", then walked away. This is not the first time the Manger has completely disregarded us. He didn't apologize for the inconvenience, he just seemed very uncaring towards us. In the past, when he lacked professionalism and empathy, we gave him the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe it's just how he is. However, we have seen him interacting with other customers in a very friendly manner. Today, our eyes were opened while speaking with him. We will not be returning to this restaurant again to support this establishment.

Our waiter made a mistake in charging for something that we never ate, charging me first $84.44. When I point out, our waiter made a mistake, she charged me with the correction $82.27; however, she charged me $84.44, followed by another charge for $82.27. She never stop or refund me the $84.44. So as a quick advice, always ask the waiter, to give you a receipt with the full details what are you getting charged. Here is a screenshot of both chargers. And I want my $84.44, to be refunded as soon as possible! Otherwise, I will dispute this fee as fraud with my bank institution.

I have been a frequent customer at this restaurant, good food and affordable prices not to mention the always welcoming smiling staff that makes sense 24th St cafe different from the rest. But today everything went down hill. I ordered tri tip omelet with hash browns, it was ok but I ordered a chicken salad for my wife and it was a complete let down, could not find the chicken, the server needs to be knowledgeable of the menu and today's server just didn't fit the bill, then I ordered a NY steak medium with mashed potatoes and the steak was way over cooked. They need to check on the cooks, complete disaster.i don't know if I'm coming back, but rest assured I will tell my friends that 24th St is not the good food place that it used to be.Even the cheese cake was awful.

What do you do when a place that feels welcoming on the surface quietly tells you that people like you aren’t truly welcome? As a Mexican American, I’ve lived in Bakersfield long enough to know which local gems carry heart — and 24th Street Café seemed like one of them. Great food. A nostalgic atmosphere. Friendly service. I was seriously considering bringing my family and friends here for a big Fourth of July brunch. I wanted to support local and celebrate in a space that felt classic and rooted in community. But that all changed the moment I stepped into the restroom and saw a sign on the wall written only in Spanish: “No orine o miccione fuera de la taza.” (Translation: “Do not urinate or defecate outside the toilet.”) There was no English version posted — no balance, no effort to deliver the message universally. Just a warning directed in one direction, toward one group. Let that sink in: a message about bathroom cleanliness, directed only at Spanish speakers. That kind of selective messaging might seem minor to some — but to many of us, it’s a gut-punch. A quiet signal that says: “We expect less from you. We assume the worst from you.” I brought this up respectfully to a waitress after complimenting the meal and sharing my excitement about returning with loved ones. She had agreed to be recorded, and at first, the conversation was warm and easy. But the moment I brought up the sign, everything shifted. Her expression tightened, her answers became vague, and within seconds she ended the conversation and walked away — recording and all. It was disheartening. Not because I expected a confrontation, but because I hoped for curiosity, empathy — some recognition that what I saw might feel wrong to someone like me. I won’t be returning. And I chose not to bring my family here for Independence Day — because if a place doesn’t feel like it honors all Americans equally, how can I celebrate there? This review isn’t an attack. It’s a call to awareness. To anyone reading: language matters. Messages matter. Silence matters. And we all have the right to expect dignity — even in the smallest details, even in the restroom.
