Wow. Steak on a 780 degree stone. I had the sirloin, shrimp and scallop. It was very good. You have to pay attention to you steak or it can over cook.
Such good food! Management was very accommodating when they were out of a specific cut for me and were able to compromise accordingly. Some nights it has been pretty smokey in here and that's about the only part of this experience I'm not a huge fan of(pun not intended) although I'm not sure how much of that is on them.
First time eating here and it was 5 stars all the way around. From the excellent servers to the great food, it made for a great experience and we’ll be back! Added bonus that the lava stone remained hot the entire time we were there and the heat radiating off it felt great.
WOW- one of the best steaks we have ever had. Definitely a smoky restaurant, but the quality of the food was so good. Portions are huge. We ordered the sirloin steak and lamb. Will definitely be back!
There wasn't a single thing that I could complain about when I took a visit to this place! First of all, it's really awesome that you're able to cook your own steak and seafood on a really hot volcanic rock slab right in front of you, an experience that I haven't had before! The accompanying butter and steak sauce were fantastic! Also I was not expecting the sheer volume of fried pickles I would get when ordering the fried pickles appetizer, I mean look at the damn thing! It's a literal BOAT a fried pickles, the seasoning is very well done and the spicy aioli is really good too! The atmosphere was nice, and the service was pinpoint! If I could give it 6 stars I would!
Kudos to our server Emily, who made sure we were well taken care of, I ordered a full rack of ribs along with a loaded mashed potato and a salad. My sister ordered the state, shrimp, and scallops with asparagus. Everything was cooked to Perfection. My sister did say her steak was just a tad bit tough, but other than that, it was fine. Beautiful atmosphere and a fun time, we will be back. Thank you for all your hard work and service.
We had a huge party in this restaurant for graduation. The place seemed very slow (to be fair we arrived at an odd time, like 2 pm), and thankfully the servers were attentive. I was able to order for the kids first and then place our orders. The kids meals are quite large (not pictured). Adult portions are also sizable. The drinks were good and the bartender was busy! She knew what she was doing back there. They gave us two servers for about 30 people. However, when it came to paying, they weren’t able to process everyone’s family separately. It ended up being okay with most folks, despite us not really knowing everyone. Overall, it was a good experience and I would go back. I just would inform people before they eat about the check situation.
This place is so much fun to visit. We loved using the black rock to cook our steaks. This is definitely a unique experience and great for days night or a family dinner. The food is yummy and the service is exceptional. Chloe was so attentive with a friendly demeanor and a great sense of humor. We will definitely be back and ask for Chloe next time we are in. You've got to try the spiked rootbeer float. Highly recommend!
I love this place. Great atmosphere and experience. We ordered so much... Brussels sprouts, cheese wedges, stir fry, steak, shrimp, ribs, French onion soup, spinach artichoke dip, pretzel & cheese fondue and a brownie skillet. I also had an alcoholic drink it had some type of tea in it. It was purple, shiny and bitter. That's the only thing I don't recommend getting. All I can say was "everything " was good. If you get the cooking stone, it's a fun experience as well. You get to choose your seasonings/sauce and cook your steak in front of you. Price is moderate. This is a great place for an adult bday dinner, wedding party etc. Or even a nice date. No fancy clothing needed. The staff was very nice. Bathrooms were clean. I will definitely be back here many more times.
Amazing food and very friendly staff. Went for a late lunch and got seated immediately. Drinks were prompt, Brussel sprouts were a 10/10 as was the fondue starter. The steaks were cooked perfectly for each of the ladies and were *delicious*. A+ establishment
Super smokey place just filled with tantalizing scents of the most flavorful dishes you’ll ever try! I’m truly impressed and satisfied with toss place! The service was friendly and assertive, the food was scrumptious and super fresh! From the pretzels and dips to the chicken shred and steaks, by far in my top 10 favorite bar and grills! Good selection of beers and spirits, great choices on food, appetizers and desserts…OH MY!!! 😋 I highly recommend for a good time and even better steak come here first! The Louisiana Dream sauce was perfectly spiced straight from NOLA! The sweet chili sauce was perfectly balanced! The casino butter was phenomenal! I’m definitely coming back next time I work in the area! Thank you!!!
Our food was great and our waitress was the best! My only suggestion would be to not use that bagged lettuce mix in the Apple Strawberry Fields salad. The original Black Rock makes theirs with a mix of greens and it tastes much better that way!
This is fast becoming our go to location for date night. The food is amazing! The steak tastes amazing and the ribs fall off the bones.
Celebrating a birthday today. Called Thursday to see if I could do priority seating for early Sunday afternoon. With our size group, they offered us the private dining room, which I graciously accepted. This was perfect for us. We had great service. She was very attentive. Some of us ordered steaks to cook on the lava rock. This was a fun experience! Ordered a side of mushrooms, which is enough to share with several people. The coconut shrimp was very good, as well as the shrimp cooked on the lava rock. We ordered 3 desserts to share. Should have stuck with ordering 2. So much to share! A different dining experience that was worth the hour drive for us. Look forward to dining there again.
We had a enjoyable dinner. Our food arrived to our table quickly and hot. Our appetizers were delicious and around in enough time to enjoy prior to our main course. Our service was very attentive and courteous and explained the restaurant specialty of cooking at the table to the person of our party who was there for the first time.
Title: Exceptional Dining Experience at Black Rock Steak House, Thanks to Waitress Beth I recently dined at Black Rock Steak House and was thoroughly impressed by every aspect of my experience. From the moment I walked in, the ambiance was inviting and the staff were welcoming. However, what truly elevated my dining experience was the outstanding service provided by our waitress, Beth. Beth went above and beyond to ensure that my party and I had a memorable evening. She was attentive, knowledgeable, and had a genuine passion for ensuring our satisfaction. Her recommendations were spot on, and her attention to detail was commendable. The food itself was exquisite. Each dish was expertly prepared, showcasing the highest quality ingredients and culinary craftsmanship. The sides were delicious complements to the main course. What truly sets Black Rock Steak House apart is the interactive dining experience. Cooking your own steak on a hot volcanic rock at your table is not only fun but also ensures that each bite is cooked exactly to your liking. If you don’t want to cook it yourself, just have the chefs there do it! I enjoyed doing it myself however. Overall, I cannot recommend Black Rock Steak House enough, and much of that recommendation is owed to the exceptional service provided by Beth. She truly made our evening unforgettable, and I look forward to returning soon for another outstanding dining experience. Oh yeah try one of their mixed drinks!!
By far the best restaurant! The food was beyond amazing! The salad was delicious and fresh. The pretzel and cheese fondue was an amazing explosion of flavor. Cooking your own steak on a rock was something different that made it a fun unique experience. The steak was wonderfully tender and delicious. And our waitress was efficient and friendly. And the words I'm using don't give it justice. Multiple what I'm explaining by 100 and you might have an idea just how great it really is.
Why are people complaining about the price? $17.99 for a 6 oz sirloin and 2 sides! Around normal and we drove an hour and half to get there! Pretzels are amazing! Steak was spot on because I cooked it, rock sauce so good! I upgraded to get the roasted Brussel Sprouts and glad I did! A special place for our family 🥰
Before visiting the area, I made a priority seating reservation several weeks ago. When we arrived the place was packed. Since we had the priority seating, our wait was about 25 minutes which was not bad considering the standard wait was 1 hour. Our waiter Derrick was attentive, very polite and friendly. We ordered the ahi tuna steaks, a fillet and a chicken stir fry. Opting to cook our on meal (except for the chicken dish), everything arrived on a lava stone sizzling away. Hard fun cooking the tuna which was tasty with the sauces and garlic butter. The fillet was 6oz and tender with minimal grizzle. The entrees included 2 sides while the chicken had 1. Fun time making our meal. For dessert we tried the pretzels bites with a dipping sauces - raspberry, chocolate and caramel. A delicious meal in a fun and lively atmosphere. Would recommend visiting this restaurant.
A fun experience with great food! We started with the pretzel and cheese fondue appetizer. It was a good size for the price and the cream cheese was amazing! For our entrees, my husband ordered the Dynamic Duo(filet and shrimp), I had the Taste of Black Rock(sirloin and filet), and my daughter had the 9oz sirloin. The cuts of steak were top notch! You could cut the filets with just a fork. My husband didn't care for the shrimp, as he found it to be too spicy. And it was much easier to cook everything than I was expecting so don't worry about that! For dessert we had the volcano and it is a must do!! It even comes out with a lit sparkler on the top. If I had to find a fault in our visit it would be for service. It wasn't busy, but we repeatedly had to flag our server down for drink refills. We also had a table covered in dirty dishes since she never took any dishes away the entire meal. Overall we still had a great visit and will absolutely return!
Our first time going. I would recommend cooking your own steak on the slab for a first-time experience. The food was absolutely delicious. I had steak, mac n cheese, french onion soup, and a glass of sweet red wine. My boyfriend had steak, mashed potatoes, a cesar salad, and a glass of wine as well. Our server was so sweet and instructed us well on the do's and dont's when cooking on the slab. Overall it was a fun date and we can wait to come back!
In town for business and our group went for dinner. It was my first time, and it was fun to get the sirloin with the hot rock to cook the steak on. The food was great and we had friendly service. My only complaint is that I got spattered by the cooking steak, and my clothes now have a smokey odor. My cider was amazing. It was a fun place to go with the group and watch the games.
Yes! Love this place already. I'm still here but I was enticed by the neighboring table and their steak. I ordered a ribeye and a side of shrimp with mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts. Let me just tell you...excellent. I didn't realize we cooked the meat at the table, but the kitchen can cook it as desired if you want; however, I figured we would experience the black rock. I am very pleased that I did. I am beyond full but am seriously considering dessert. Brett was a very attentive and pleasant waiter. We...will...return
For trying a new restaurant this one stands out in particular. They give you the option to cook your steak yourself on a black rock slab they bring out for you. It definitely is a pricey place to go, but I'd say it was worth it. The wait when I arrived was 45 minutes and it was quite busy. Overall though, the food was delicious and the only thing I'd recommend is don't spend 9.99 on one slice of cheesecake lol
I went to your place on a whim while on a business trip in Dayton. The food here tastes good and, because it's cooking on a stone right in front of you, it's always hot! My waitress was awesome. Definitely a great experience!
My brother told me about this place and so we met up for a lunch/dinner here and wow this place was fantastic... the food was delicious, the service was wonderful and we totally enjoyed ourselves. The price was fair too... absolutely delicious and a must if in the area.
Food was amazing. Me and my son got the 9 oz sirloin that was cooked on the black rock, which has to be in my top 3 steaks i have ever had. Comes with a fantastic garlic/herb butter and a steak sauce. I paired it one of the best chicken tortilla soup i have had. We did get a chicken appetizer, which wasn't my jam due to the sauce (Mayo based?). The service was quick and attentive. Came around and replaced drinks as soon as they were empty. Made recommendations of items to try. Explained best way to cook the steaks. Atmosphere was busy, but tables are set up in a way to feel separate from others. They do have several tv's around the bar showing the current sports. I would definitely return, if i am back in the Dayton, OH area.
We went during lunch and it was amazing!!! Not loud at all and great service!!! We had the best server!! She was amazing and super helpful!! Her name was Emmy! We got the coconut shrimp appetizer and we both got The taste of the rock dinner. It was amazing
We had a really good meal at Black Rock. We started with the crab-stuffed mushrooms and a cup of lobster bisque, and that was an awesome way to kick things off right off the bat The mahi fish and chips were a bit on the frail side and could have been larger but they were crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside. I actually preferred the coconut shrimp over the mahi. Crunchy and cooked just right to includesome sweet marmalade on the side. My wife went with the shrimp tacos that she said was tangy and fresh, definitely easy to eat The only small letdown was the lamb chops and lobster. The lamb was so so due to being only luke earm, but the lobster came out a little cold, which was kind of a bummer Overall though, lots of good food, good variety, and will possibly return to try other options, just hoping for warmer lobster next time
It was REALLY delicious steak, I got a sirloin and was surprised at how tender and juicy it was!! Unfortunately, I can only give it 4 stars because of the wait. It took a REALLY long time to even get my salad, and it took nearly an hour to finally get our steaks. However I would say the wait was worth it. Hopefully next time it'll be shorter and if it is I'll update the review!
This was a fun experience. Food was really good. Atmosphere was nice and service was friendly. I had the black rock pretzel appetizer and I enjoyed that the stone keeps the food and dips hot. The coconut shrimp was really good too.
Sat down at the Bar and the hostess and Bartender were arguing. Really do not know if it was real, or not, but it was not professional at all! It did take 15 minutes to get drinks, at the bar. They were pretty good. Seems like the moral isnt very good. A little on the pricey side, but overall good place to eat and get a drink.
The Steak and scallops were just okay, I did not care for the meat on the French dip, the French onion soup is excellent, and smoked old fashioned was excellent! For the price the food was subpar. Service and atmosphere was great.
Came here for a date night and it was my first time. We were seated fairly quickly and had great service at the bar while we waited and once we sat down for dinner. We ordered the lobster dip as a starter, especially because it didn’t have any pork or red meat… So we thought… Also asked the waitress for clarification. The dip in fact had pieces of pork/bacon when I mentioned that as a food restriction.. i even mentioned it to the waitress who went back to the kitchen to tell me there wasn’t bacon when we’d picked the pieces out. Since she offered no other option I just gave it to my boyfriend to eat. We also ordered the Dynamite Chicken and a steak. He enjoys this restaurant a lot . My chicken was great and he enjoyed his steak and sides
Great place for a Saturday evening. Guessing from the 50 minute wait to get a table, many others had the same idea. Food was really good, I highly recommend the Artichoke Dip. (Can't wait to try the Lobster Dip 😋) The only thing I can say is that if you want a really good place to get really good food (especially the steak) then find your way to this place. Try the sizzling rock (700°!). You will not be disappointed.
Just dinner. Was able to be seated immediately. Really cool steak house experience with the option to cook your steak yourself on a heated lava rock. Ordered the Taste of Black Rock Shrimp and scallop was prepared to perfection. Ordered the steak medium but it was more well done. Surprisingly, it was still tender and had great flavor.
This restaurant had very friendly/knowledgeable staff, nice lighting, and awesome spacious tables. The appetizers were good. The steaks were cooked by the person eating them on a hot stone. It had very nice flavor. Only complaint was time in restaurant. We had reservations at 4pm and didn’t leave till after 7 pm. Long time to wait for entree when they bring it out uncooked? The table beside us was extremely loud which lessened a nice dinner experience, entirely not in their control.
They provide a really unique cooking experience. The steak was excellent and fun to cook in front of you. The service was incredible and staff was kind. Only complaint was how smokey the restaurant was. It was hard to breathe with it so smokey. Other than the smokiness we will be back with friends!
Food was great! Great flavor, seasoning. We cooked our own. We came in for our sons 13th birthday. Our server Delaney was the absolute worst though. 0/10 recommend. She was not attentive and honestly didnt care that we were there. Her attitude and whole vibe was rude. Therefore her tip reflected it. I served for years and I would NEVER treat a paying customer, whom my income depends on, the way she treated us. We definitely let the manager know. We were there for TWO HOURS and the restaurant was not even half full.
Excellent waitress, food was delicious. Crispy nice house salad, loaded baked potato was delicious. Enjoyed grilling the sirloin steak. Very tender and the experience was enjoyable. Had 3 other diners in our party and everyone liked their dishes. Definitely going back.
We travel about an hour and twenty minutes to get to this location, and tonight was no different. We have been here many times and have always enjoyed our visits. When we arrived around 8:15PM, we were told the wait would be over an hour, which was completely fine. There was plenty of space in the waiting area for both seating and standing. The issue came when the hostess refused to put us on the waiting list because we could not provide a working phone number. We explained that our phones do not get good service in this area and that we would be waiting right next to the hostess stand, but she still would not add us to the list. This has never been a problem on any of our previous visits, and it was frustrating that she would not offer any alternative, even though she could have used the restaurant’s phone number instead. We were essentially refused service because of this. Thankfully, we went to the bar area where M and A were working. They took excellent care of us, and our food was delicious as always. Their great service made up for what happened at the front. The hostess, however, could benefit from some retraining, as this experience was very different from the welcoming service we are used to here
This is a really cool place. It has a way you can cook your own food on a hot rock that's put in front of you. Kids would love. It's not bad, but the value for the food is too high. I enjoy it because it's a cool place to go and my daughter likes it but other than that. It's not worth the price. I wish it was because the concept of it is awesome. I never mind paying for food and don't even care. To be honest, but I want it to be worth the price That being said, the pretzels are the bomb very, very good, and the sauces as well.I like this sauce better than the cheese
Normally, I would just note how the server was nice and go on with my review. However in this situation it's important to start with the inadequate service. Upon being seated, it took just under an hour for our three entrees to be served, and by the time we were finished and had ordered dessert, it took about another half hour for dessert to arrive, followed by half an hour simply waiting for the check. Despite this, the appetizers and entrees were quite agreeable. Everybody liked the pretzels with their dip, I personally preferred the nacho dip, but the others liked the garlic cheese dip that the dish comes with. The pita bread with spinach artichoke was quite good as well, though the pita was slightly over-toasted. I ordered the Stone filet, which I cooked myself with some of their black rock sauce and casino butter, and it turned out very delicious, though the experience wasn't all that entertaining. Additionally the side of fries I ordered were too bland and got cold too quickly. Unfortunately, the dessert I ordered was a caramel cookie with ice cream, and while it wasn't awful, it was certainly far too sweet and lacked a savory or salty flavor, which lowered the quality of the dish tenfold. The atmosphere seemed quite bland, and I don't have any notes on that other than it lacking any distinction. Overall, I'd rather not eat here again for the prices of the food when there are better options, possibly for cheaper, in the area.
All around excellent experience, with the exception of their tip policy. I understand that it is customary for an auto gratuity with a large party, but their policy is to split 3 ways. So, our waitress only gets 6% of the tip. That's bs. Of course we left her more (LISA WAS EXCEPTIONAL), but to only give 1/3 of the mandatory gratuity to our waitress is appalling.
Took 20 mins before ordering a drink.. 30 mins before the appetizer came. Waited another 30 just to put order in.. it’s been 2 hours since we sat down and no food yet..finally get my steak and it’s not how I ordered it, very disappointing as this was my first time here.
Loved the food but the weight was like over a 1 an hour. Even though we had in a reservation not that That's a bad thing because I did not mind waiting. But then when our table was ready they wanted to split up a table to accommodate another party. And then give us the other half of the table, then said that the other party was being difficult. Which they were and then gave us all different seating arrangement, which I was not mad about. Then, they did like kind of forget silverware, but then they corrected, it wasn't honestly a bad experience. I just think that when I wenrt was super busy. So maybe not on a saturday night, but definitely would come back again i just think there was many hiccups in that they were stressed because they were so packed, but I mean, that's not necessarily their fault. But I also think with the reservations that they shouldn't be taking more reservations than they have spaces in their building. But that's just my take on things
20 mins waiting on waiter. Salads came out with food so rocks got cold as we are trying to eat salads and appetizers. Forgot 1/2 the stuff we ordered and no steak knives. Takes 10 mins to go get knives. Baked potatoes sent back 2 times undercooked. 3rd time guess they thought the microwave would cooked it. It didn’t!!! Asked for manager to take off the lemonade that tasted like someone dumped in 1/2 the lemonade mix into the glass and the baked potato and manager got rude as hell apparently thinking we wanted a big discount. No sir I just wanted refunded for what was not edible or drinkable. I’ll take my $230 elsewhere next time!!!
The shrimp was good. The pretzel bites were good. However, if you asked them to cook your steak, medium, expect to get a piece of jerky back i guess the only way to get a good steak is to cook it yourself here this is a picture of my steak and hers, and we were both served burnt jerky and we asked for medium well we also told the server about this, and she was like, okay, well, here's the bill lol we were nice and respectful the entire time here as soon as the manager found out about it, he took it off
Went there for dinner with my wife Friday night. Literally the worst steak I've ever had. Ordered Mid Rare. Came out ultra rare. Asked them to please cook it up to medium rare as ordered. Came back super tough and horrible seasoning. Almost like it was microwaved. Spoke to the manager who was friendly enough but cut me off to change the subject about something completely irrelevant. He did comp the steak, but he should have. We wont be back.
Called ahead the day after Valentine’s and was told that we could put in a reservation for 7pm. Came at 6:40 and we were informed they don’t do reservations but we did have “priority seating”. An hour long wait later, I go in to ask how much longer they thought it would be and I was met with the front of house woman giving me the nastiest attitude. Once we finally got seated an hour after our “reservation”, we were informed that they were out of basically every steak except the high priced options. After waiting over an hour, the steakhouse had no steak. Anyways, I recommend Chili’s for all of your dates and outings! Even with a short wait, the staff was nothing but friendly.
