This is, in a way, a place that is home for me for the past few decades. Tonight I shared a lovely dinner with friends for Valentine's Day as a celebration of life for our departed mutual life friend. The service was wonderful, the town just as amazing as it was in the 90's, and the food absolutely lovely. The Winds Cafe is an Ohio treasure of creative cuisine with a very human touch. Thank you, for all these moments.
Coen is the best serve we have ever had. Dude recommended the app, entree, wine, and dessert. Went 4/4 with recommendations. Always a great experience here. The duck was amazing. We will be back.
Roland and The Winds Café KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK!!! Thank you Violet for taking care of us and making it a great evening. Butternut squash, pumpkin lasagna was amazing as always. The red snapper was delicious and I’m a sucker for duck, which was above and beyond what I expected. Great wine suggestion Roland!
Fantastic menu!! I had the ratatouille crepes and they were amazing. Perfect comfort meal. My husband got the duck and it was the best duck we’ve ever had. Love that the menu caters to seasonal items. We came for our anniversary dinner and can’t wait to go back to try more dishes!
I live in New York, am from London and travel the world looking for great establishments like this. Wine list was outstanding. The food here is simply incredible. I ordered the Halibut and my partner the Pork. Both were the best meals we had found in a restaurant in years. Seriously, this place is off the charts. The ambiance is natural, there’s a hum here from the chatter of the patrons. The artwork (presumably by a local artist) on the walls are thoughtfully curated and impressive. The service was also great. This isn’t an establishment in which you’re going to worry about being embarrassed by bringing little children (we had our 5 year-old with us, who is quite precocious!). It’s relaxed but upmarket in that wonderful way so few establishments can manage. Great job team. You deserve to know how good you all are.
It's a very popular restaurant in the heart of town so get a reservation. The staff was great but keep in mind shortages so wait may be longer. Food was delicious and not overly big. Swordfish tender and flavorful with the garnish and veggie soufle light and tasty. Drinks were amazing! Spicy margarita and a sweet mule. A tad expensive for the local vibe but it's a little posh-ish oasis in a sea of long hair and incense.
We moved to the village a year ago and The Winds was the first restaurant we began dining at. It has become our go to spot and feel so welcome from the staff and the environment. The menu is always on point (even if Roland won’t make me a bacon wrapped pork chop). Roland and his team take great pride in the food they construct and serve. We love Noah behind the bar and we never have to wait for a drink. Sure it gets busy at times, but they always serve incredible food. Our favorite is the dessert, pavlova, which is extremely addicting. Great spot, great staff, great food and we will continue to frequent often. We bring friends and clients often. Did I mention we love Noah and the rest of the staff?
It's my favorite restaurant where I take my friends visiting me all the time. Food is excellent with being creative and locally sourced. Their food never failed me or my guests. The atmosphere is lively and artistic. There are always local artists' exhibits on their walls. Make sure that you make a reservation before your visit. There is always a line of people waiting to be seated.
This is our special place. I've never had better food anywhere. The ambience is perfect. It's nestled in the coolest little town. We now live almost two hours away but don't hesitate to make the drive. It's a seasonal menu. They use local as much as possible. There's always a vegetarian option that even omnivores would love. I promise that you won't be disappointed.
Noah. Hannah. Olsten. My fave bartenders and Winds associates truly make the Winds a favorite haunt of ours. They are all (and Noah especially) foodies, extremely knowledgeable about food drink and spirits, and will curate your dining experience whether at a table or the bar to your liking with absolute professionalism , personality, and exceptional attention to detail. 10/10 would recommend!
Foodie heaven. We were there for Restaurant Week. Four courses with a few selections under each course to choose from. Everything was super creative, tasty, seasonal and local. Exquisite flavors. Very good wait staff. I'd eat here again in a heartbeat. Only took a few photos because I was so distracted by the amazing food, I forgot to photograph it. 😊 Seriously.
Son gave the wife a 50 dollar gift certificate a while bach. We used it today. Only had to add another $50 for a great time. Had their version of a meat plate to start. Then we split the halibut dinner and cake for desert. It was plenty and fun.
Another amazing dinner at the Winds. Summery cocktails, fresh veggies, gorgeous salmon, visually and in flavor. The bacon-wrapped figs with goat cheese appetizer is delicious. Sorry, no pics of the blueberry-peach tart, limoncello and pistachio cheesecake, beignets with cherry compote, crème brûlée, and classic Winds chocolate mousse because we couldn't wait to eat them!
Reserved a table and celebrated with a small group for a bachelorette party here. Food was absolutely delicious but most of all the server we had was superb. It made for a most memorable night. I will be back.
One of my favorite places to eat. Both the food and drinks are amazing! Service is always great.
October is the time to find their pumpkin and squash lasagne. I know, it sounds odd. It is heavenly. Get the iced herbal tea and sit on the patio on a warm day and just get list in the awesome. Today I had the flatiron steak for the first time. The oyster mushroom sauce on top put it into the stellar category. It's medium rare, so you'd better like to actually taste the beef. Oh and if they ask if you want bread, the answer is yes. Fresh butter and fresh bread. What's not to love?
Absolutely amazing food service and atmosphere. Just as good if not better than some of the places I’ve eaten at in Columbus such a charming little place. Their patio Reminds me of eating in a Charming New England town. All missing is the ocean haha. I Highly recommend Winds!
The Winds is definitely a place to go for a wonderful, delicious lunch. The food is so fresh, and even the bread is made in house. The desserts are to die for. Wish they sold a recipe book that included the peach desert that is currently on the menu. The servers are beautiful people! It is my favorite restaurant.
We were greeted immediately at the door. On a busy night the wait staff checked with us frequently. Timed an additional "to go" item perfectly. Recently have enjoyed their sweet potato plate, a fine risotto, halibut, and more.
What a great evening out. This is a terrific little restaurant. The food, the atmosphere, the service, all were excellent. As a bonus, there’s a great art show up by an artist from this area, Katherine Kadish, that’s quite something.
I <3 The Winds so much. It is the ideal place for a special occasion meal, a "nice lunch" or just to enjoy on ANY day for any reason. The food is so thoughtful (and often colorful, beautifully plated), amazingly delicious, service is perfect and the setting is comfortable and welcoming. I just spent my 40th birthday there for lunch and can't imagine a more perfect experience. Enjoy your meal!
Delicious as always. Cheddar soup, roasted roots, and duck breast. Totally wonderful. And ginger pear cake with panna cotta for dessert. Sublime.
We've enjoyed several delicious dinners here recently. The staff was kind and expert; the pace was as swift as we wished; the food was imaginative and excellent. We love the Winds.
We had a great experience. The food was exceptional. Kudos to Roland and the crew, had the small bites of lamb, shrimp, and green tomatoes. Been to many fine dining restaurants all over, this rates with the best. Highly recommended!
Unusual menu items. Everything was really good. I had tomato soup (excellent) and the beet salad. The appetizer of brussel sprouts was very good.
My family enjoyed a dinner on the patio over the July 4th holiday weekend. It was a nice atmosphere with a breeze to help keep us cool. We tried 2 appetizers, salads, 2 entrees and 4 desserts! All the items were delicious. The service was great and our server was helpful and knowledgeable about the menu.
My husband and I were running errands and walked by the restaurant. It was time for lunch so we decided to give it a try, even though we were underdressed for a sit down lunch at the time. I am so glad we did. The food was phenomenal and the service was exceptional. We each had the Beaune Burger and when I say that was the best burger (with pickled vegetables as a side), I truly mean that. The flavor was absolutely incredible and it was cooked perfectly. We will definitely return.
I can't say enough about how good things were at Winds Cafe. From the cocktails to the small plates, to the incredible pear spice cake for dessert, we were consistently impressed. Every dish we tried, upped the game...even the bread course was out of this world. The staff was also, just top-tier. Attentive, but never hovered or smothered. I don't usually review like this, but it's all true. It's a perfect place to celebrate an anniversary, like us, or any special occasion. Just fantastic!
Dinner at the Winds last night was superb! My husband and I shared the Bistro Salad, Bread Service, Seared Domestic Sea Scallops, and the Vegetable Tagine and Apricot Vinaigrette. Wow! Everything was divine! Keith, our server, was friendly, helpful and attentive. We enjoyed ourselves immensely, and the quiet walk home in the falling snow put the icing on the cake.
Had the best meal here tonight that I’ve had in a long time. The chorizo and clams with chickpeas were amazing and the walleye was flakey, warm and perfect. Not only was the meal phenomenal but the vibes were spot on as well, it was about 9 degrees outside but the warm crackling fire inside kept the whole dining room warm and cozy.
I love this place. It has the atmosphere of both an upscale restaurant (as the food and service will attest) and a neighborhood bar. The food, wine and cocktails are thoughtfully creative and will take your palate (they have taken mine) to new and delicious places. It’s worth the trip to Yellow Springs.
Okay okay so there are some pros and cons. I loved the waitress and the host, they were awesome. I think the portion sizes are much too small for the prices for most of the things we got…HOWEVER everything we got was delicious (except the insane cracker that came with the charcuterie board that I could have cracked a tooth on). The new fall menu was available, and we got some delicious small and large plate items. The pricing is why service gets 3 stars - has nothing to do with the employees! Oddly the front door was hard to find…the first door we tried was just a staircase. Don’t open that one. That’s not it.
I'm vegetarian and they have a few options but not a ton. There is definitely nothing wrong with this restaurant but I've been probably 5-6 times and the vegetarian options are just okay but not five stars. It is the nicest restaurant in Yellow Springs and perfectly fine. Lots of people love it so it might just be the vegetarian options are not amazing. No major complaints at all. Patio is especially great!
Dinner on a friday without a reservation just before 6pm, we were seated quickly in the bar area. Service from here kind of left a lot to be desired. Team service, which is fine, but there didn’t seem to be communication. We finished our water early in the meal and never got a refill. We had a lot of tea and a cocktail, otherwise, which wasn’t quite enough. But the FOOD! The food was fantastic. We had the cheese service and 4 small plates. The cheese was a very nice opener. Beet salad was light and fresh. Garlic was perfectly roasted with crispy bread. The stuffed poblano was delicious. I want the sauce on everything. My favorite was the mussel of the day. We had a coconut lemongrass preparation that was amazing. I was drinking from the bowl at the end. I loved it.
We reserved a table for lunch. A good call given that the wait for a table without a reservation was an hour. The weather was nice enough to sit outside. Because it was busy, service was a little slow but not bad. Yellow Springs is busy on the weekends so allow yourself time to find a parking spot.
Food was pretty good, my only criticism is that the food took very long for a veggie sandwich and fries. We were there for two hours in total. I would definitely go back and would love to try the dinner menu.
Burger was average. Atmosphere was excellent. The servers themselves were very nice but service was painfully slow even though the place was almost empty. Seats were uncomfortably hard. Bring your own seat cushion.
We stopped in for appetizers and drinks before a show. It is nicely decorated, and has a European vibe. The drinks were great! The service was very slow, and I’m glad we didn’t order entrées. The appetizers were disappointing—$7 for bread, a cheese plate that hardly had any cheese and just four almonds, and fried green tomatoes that were just “meh.” Even our water was warm, and we rarely saw our waitress. We’re no strangers to paying for quality meals, but in my opinion, this was not worth the value (150$. I will not return next time I am in town.
Such a beautiful location especially if you are eating outside. We had the hamburger and the crab cake crepe. The fry chips were made specifically that way however the crisp felt overcooked and the parsley chunks didn’t add much flavor. Burger was good. The crab cake crepe was a great concept but lacked a distinct flavor and it felt like the creme sauce overpowered the dish. The size was also very small and I’m a 1-2 slices of pizza kinda eater. Service was the real special part of the evening as our waiter was friendly and attentive.
Sadly, not as good as it use to be. Seemed short on staff which resulted in confusion & slow service. Menu offered standard fare with an uplift from local fruits and vegetables. One of the more expensive eateries in the village, but arguably not the best. If "upscale" is important to you then this would be the choice in YS. Be sure to make reservations.
This was my first time coming here and I can honestly say I probably won’t come back. Service was top notch, some of the best I’ve had at a restaurant. Atmosphere was great. Not too loud and not too quiet. The food was really disappointing for me. The cheese plate was underwhelming, I’ve had much better at other places. I also got the steak dish (40 dollars for 6 bites of steak and some fries). I asked for it to be cooked medium and some pieces were rare while others were medium rare. I just think if they are going to charge high end prices they should be able to cook/make high end meals.
The food’s quality was clearly excellent— but there was no flavor or seasoning at all. Delightfully textured, beautifully prepared, unremarkably flavored. I had the duck, which lacked seasoning (even salt and pepper, it seemed!), and the chocolate mousse, which derived any and all of its sweetness from the small dollop of whipped cream on top. The meal improved significantly when I asked for salt and pepper, but I think the duck would have been lovely with some citrus or balsamic. The mousse was beyond saving unless they plan to add adequate sugar to make it taste like I’m eating something other than pillow foam. Not terrible, but the only thing to write home about is how beautiful the presentation is. Service was good, even if it was a little slow because of how busy it was (I saw a small number of servers, which makes me think they might have been short staffed that night— no harm, no foul there because the server I had, Mia, was awesome.) The food was beautiful; even if it was boring to the palate, it certainly was not boring to the eyes.
Lunch with a friend on a Saturday was disappointing. The place was empty and the staff was very friendly. I ordered the Organic Sandwich which had no taste and the accompanying salad was like eating straight out of a bag of field greens. My companion ordered the Summer Croque Monsieur and commented it was good for a toasted ham and cheese. All this took a rather long time to be served but the waiter was attentive and pleasant. I would love to say my opinion is more a reflection of Winds brunch past with creamy mushroom gravy on buttery biscuits, eggs and omelets, hot and cheesy, wonderful fresh fruit and pastries, and fluffy pancakes with fruit competes and local butter. But as someone who ordered on that beautiful Saturday, which should have filled that patio...it was mediocre at best and not a meal to bring me back. Next time, I'll join the crowd at Ye Old Tavern on their bustling patio....
I thought the decorations and atmosphere was off. The place was almost empty. We had to wait WAY too long to get our entrees. The appetizer we ordered was a strange kind of "pasta", and it didn't taste good. I ordered the filets rare and one of them was overcooked. My wife ordered the halibut, and she enjoyed it. We have been to countless restaurants over the years, and this was just a disappointing experience all around.
Really expected more from this place. Beer ordered before food, came after the food. Fritatta was burnt on the bottom, and bland... Same with the Croque... Bland. Sandwich was warm / hot... Fries were cold and undercooked. Server didn't stop by to check on us, until we were pretty much done. I tried to express displeasure... It was ignored.
So...I hate to say it, but my husband and I are big foodies and were very underwhelmed with this place. We were starving when we went and there was a long wait for the restaurant we wanted to go to, so we took a chance here. I agree with one review, the front door is hard to find. I got the charcuterie plate to start since we were so hungry. The plate contained a few bundles of meats, no cheeses, one long cracker and a few nuts/singular fruits. For $20 it is so overpriced and not even that good. Then my husband got a burger and I got the pumpkin and autumn squash lasagna. He said his burger was decent, but my lasanga was far too sweet. It wasn't awful, but the flavor just wasn't great. And the side salad that came with it was just a pile of greens with no dressing. I got a potato soup as well, which was probably the best thing I had. But it was very watery and not warm enough. For the $85 after tip that we spent here, we were super disappointed. And still hungry! I wound up getting a personal pizza for $10 down the street just so I felt good enough to walk around Yellow Springs. It's sad, because the place it beautiful and the staff are so nice! I hope they get a better menu soon.
This was described to us as the best restaurant in Yellow Springs, but we were completely underwhelmed. The atmosphere is a bit sleepy (even on a Saturday evening for dinner), but that could've been excused if the food was good. The bread service barely comes with enough butter to lightly coat the bread. The Caesar salad and fried green tomatoes were just okay. The burger was awful - truly the worst burger I've ever tasted, and I couldn't take more than two bites of it. We let the server know that we didn't enjoy the burger, and she didn't even ask if we wanted to order anything else. We ate a second dinner later at the taco truck outside of our hotel which was much better and much less costly.
Just not it. The burger we had was pretentious, way too many flavors and seasonings at once. It was hard as a rock despite being pink throughout. The gem Caesar had clearly brown lettuce. We told the waitress about the food and she made no effort to make anything right. Won’t be back.
My partner and I had high hopes of a nice Valentine's day dinner, our hopes were quickly rendered. Even with making a reservation, we still waited 15-20 minutes before we even got our table. When we got to our table we were crammed in and we couldn't get to our seats without bumping into other people who were already sitting down trying to have dinner. We ordered the Valentine's day special which came with wine a small plate a large plate and dessert. I had ordered the shrimp puttanesca and the olive oil poached cod with tangerine sauce. The shrimp for the shrimp puttanesca was not deveined leaving the shrimp with a foul taste, The cod had no flavor nor did the broccoli and it was just sitting in a soupy water and olive oil reserve and was also missing the tangerine sauce. All of the food except for the dessert was flavorless and had no spice. However, when we received the Mayan love ritual, it was a thick chocolate consistency with 10 lb of spice inside of it, making it rather hard to choke down. If they would have put half the spice that was inside of the Mayan love ritual on the actual food it might have actually turned out good. We also ordered the fried oysters which we never got. We waited 20 minutes to receive our small plate. After we finished. It took another 20 minutes to receive our large plate. After we finished our large plate. It took about 20 minutes for the dessert to arrive. Our server never checked in with us. She always seemed to disappear. She never even bothered to ask us if our food was any good or if she could get us anything else. We paid $180 for dinner tonight and it was not worth it at all. On a separate side note, my partner and I witnessed a couple that had sat down and ordered the duck. About 15-20 minutes later the waitress came back to tell them that they were out of duck. The communication from the server was horribly slow even with it being a busy night. Nobody should have to wait that long before finding out that they're not able to have the main entree that they ordered. The Valentine's day dinner at waffle House would have made a better choice. Save your money and go somewhere else!
I’m not sure what took longer—the wait for our food or the erosion of my hope. We were seated quickly, which in hindsight was the peak of the experience. After that, our server seemed to vanish into another dimension, reappearing only to remind us that yes, we were still waiting. When the food finally arrived, it was impressively bland. Not subtly seasoned—just aggressively tasteless, like it had been cooked while actively avoiding salt, spices, or joy. The risotto was mushy, the sauce had the personality of warm water, and the scallops were tough and chewy. We asked to speak with a manager which after 20 mins we just got the check. By the time we got the check (also late), we were too tired to complain. If you’re looking for a place to practice patience and lower your expectations, this is the spot. Otherwise, I’d recommend literally anywhere else.
