Opinions de Sushi Jin Bergenfield
Bergenfield best keep secret. I can't get enough of it It has excellent service, great food. Everything from the menu is wicked, wicked delicious. Try Fry vanilla ice cream and anything and everything you can afford. I love this restaurant is by far the best sushi we have had. If you are going to dine in, don't forget to B.Y.O.B. And enjoy the best sushi in town. There is parking in the front or back rear. I can't believe it; I have missed out on the coupon special after all these years.
Love this place. The food is great and they have a pretty big menu. While I basically order the same thing every time, I have tried some other items on the menu and really liked those too. I'm not really a sushi person, but friends and family that had it said it was definitely some of the best in the area. I've ordered in-house and online delivery and have no complaints, although delivery can take a while. The family that runs it is very nice and always look happy to serve you. Definitely try this place when you get the chance. I recommend the shrimp tempura udon with a side of gyoza.
I love this place. The prices are good, the portions are reasonable, and the food is always delicious. No charge for delivery either. I think I've eaten here more than any other restaurant in the area
Great customer service and delicious food! Mei and the owner were so accommodating on my requests that I was able to comfortably placed a group order for a Sunday lunch at our church. Food delivery was awesome too! Glad I listened to friends' recommendation about this place. Looking forward to dine in here when the pandemic is over to try their ramen and other dishes.
Although there was no inside dining, we ordered $100 platter to go and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fish was relatively fresh, decently big size pieces, and good variety. They were closing at 10 p.m. today, Saturday October 3rd.
favorite sushi place in bergen county! Fish is always high quality, and the food is always tasty. Great service, owners are always kind!
Great sushi place. We have been ordering for years. They have not disappointed us.
i ordered from here today and it was the best sushi i’ve had recently. :) and the woman i ordered from on the phone was very sweet and sounded very happy. i assume this place has great service and i’d love to visit in person one day. ❤️
This is a great family owned Japanese restaurant, one of our favorites whenever we have cravings for sushi. We usually get delivery or take out and have tried other well reviewed Japanese restaurants in the area (Cactus Sushi, Nori, Kyoto Sushi). And between the quality of the sushi, taste, portions of sashimi and price, Nihon Kai is the best IMHO.
The food and customer service was fantastic as always. I've ordered from here for years and never had any issues. That's hard to find in places.
We love this restaurant and always order from Nikon Kai. The sushi rolls are all delicious and very fresh. The miso soup is flavorful with plenty of tofu.
If you want sushi, sashimi, or just Japanese food this is your place. The sushi chef is an artist. The food is wonderful to eat but also a pleasure to look at. My wife and I were in awe. Everything was so good we had lunch a couple of days later.
I grew up in Bergenfield and left decades before this place opened. I now live 80 miles away but tried this place on a return visit. It is now my favorite Japanese restaurant in NJ and I have eaten in many in my years. They have Toro. Even NYC places rarely carry that. I now purposely drive 160 miles round trip just to eat here. No better Japanese cuisine anywhere.
Quaint little store. Drive 15 min just for take-out. Just tells how good food and price budget attracts many people to drive far for their favorite eatery.
We tried the Ramen and Udon soups. Both were very good. Would be nice is they had some music playing.
Great food. I order take out and the delivery is fast and courteous. The special rolls are creative and always consistent. I highly recommend Nihon Kai for your sushi cravings.
The sushi here is absolutely incredible! The fish is so fresh and melts in your mouth! The service is impeccable attentive but never intrusive. It made the meal even better! This is hands down the best sushi spot I’ve ever been to. I’ll be dreaming about this meal!
Forgot about this sushi restaurant and thought it wasn't there any longer. Well, we had an amazing lunch!!! So many different rolls to choose from, service was fast and prices are very reasonal. Rolls are nicely sized and so many different creative approaches. Cant wait to go back and thank god we didn't order more because we were very satisfied with what we chose.
Family owned Sushi spot. The Udon Noodle Seafood soup is addicting. Check this place out.
First time trying them and pleasantly surprised. The appetizer portions are small but suitably priced making adding some variety quite easy. I got the yakitori and tofu agedashi which was excellent. Main course I got unagi don, the sauce was not as sweet as most places- seaweed salad was very refreshing and the eel seemed fresher than most places. It wasn't flattened out from being in a vacuum sealed bag. The tofu agedashi is excellent, get it on every visit.
I kept passing by this place and never tried it before, but tonight I was hungry and I remembered! Boyyyyy I was missing a lot!! This place is small and cozy. The service was really really good! They kept my cup of tea filled all the time. Very polite and helpful. They have an amazing sushi selection, but I wasn't sure what to order so I asked for recommendations and it was the most delicious one!! I enjoyed every single bite! I think this is going to be my once a week mandatory stop. Lol Thank you very much Mei!!! (My server) Price: The rolls are around 10-20 depending what you order. Very appropriate. Service: 100/100, Mei was super sweet! Food: 100/100, soooooooo good! 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸 I'll go back! 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
Tried a takeout from this small place on Washington ave and did not get disappointed. In addition to pretty decent sushi they also have some interesting dishes such as gyoza, yakitori for those who like an injection of meat appetizers in their takeout. Stuff is really friendly and offered me a little bit on the house at the late hour, which was a nice addition to a great food. Will recommend!
I come here pretty often and the staff is so sweet! If I ask for extra stuff, they usually will give it to me with no charge! The food is delicious and the prices are great. If you’re around, I’d definitely say give this place a try! You won’t regret it
I must continue to sing the priases of Nihon Kai, that little Japanese Restaurant across from Tommy Fox's on Washington in Bergenfield. We have been ordering sushi delivery from them for years, and they just seem to get better and better. We order Speciality Rolls from an extensive, imaginative selection of creations, we order Temaki (Hand Rolls) and Classic Maki all for one order, usually. And they never, ever disappoint. Your order is arranged artfully with fresh flowers, delivered by the sweetest drivers (DON'T go thru those delivery apps -- they suck restaurants dry with their commissions -- order directly from the nicest lady who picks up the phone!!) The orders arrive on time, with chopsticks, soy and the best wasabi. Their fish is screamingly fresh, and their rolls don't fall apart, and are NOT constructed of mostly rice. And are you kidding me with the artistry. Order delivery, or stop by. I heard their Hibachi is wonderful. And don't forget to tip your driver.
It's a little pricey but that is to be expected of sushi restaurants. The sushi roll I got was beautiful and delicious. Would definitely come back again!

I discovered this place a few years ago and it's been one of my favorite restaurants ever since. It may be easy to miss from the outside, but the food is incredible. The restaurant has a few sit down tables and booths that are cozy and comfortable, the staff are hard working and very kind, and it's just a great place to go to. It seems to be family owned and run, and everyone I've interacted with there was very, very sweet. The prices (for the entrees, at least--ive never tried the sushi since I don't like fish) are extremely low too, which is a nice surprise these days! Highly, highly recommend checking it out. The noodles are delicious, as is the fried green ice cream. It's by far the best I've ever had. Thanks for running such a great place nearby!
I order at least 3 times a week. The lunch specials are great. I love the tempura and bento boxes. I always had wonderful serve and their delivery time is usually no more then 30 minutes.. spring rolls served with lemon are the best I've ever had. If you like fresh tasty sushi, this is the place to go, and for the quality I don't feel it's expensive.

Typical Japanese fare for a typical price. True, I can easily go into the city and find better sushi, sometimes at a better price (minus tolls and gas) However, it isn't easy to find this quality on this side of the Hudson. I've never been served rotten or low quality food (I can't imagine someone being brave enough to eat fish that smells rotten) and I can't think of any disappointments big enough to note in this review. East Japanese down the street is comparable, with a brighter and more casual atmosphere. Quality wise it's like comparing Five Guys and Shake Shack, you have your favorite but the differences are in the details.
One of Bergenfield's hidden gems of an eatery! The sushi is ok, but the entrees are really good! My go-to Japanese place when I'm in the area and in the mood for Teriyaki or Tempura.
Delivery Order: Ordered a couple of Sushi Rolls and Dumplings. Rolls tasted pretty good but not fan of Golden Dumplings. I would definitely order from here again.
I ordered the chicken fried rice and it came out in 5 minutes. Excellent service and time management; however the menu is not updated with up-to-date prices.
A little dated space but food was excellent and inexpensive. Ask for tonkotsu as it's not on the menu. Constant flow of take out and deliveries on a Sunday night. BYOB is a plus

I contemplated between 2 and 3 stars. The people were nice which is always a plus. I got the sashimi bento box. The california rolls and fried oysters was good. Sushi rice had a nice amount of salt and vinegar but I felt sick in the stomach an hour after.
This place is run by a family. When we got into the restaurant, the boy at the reception area stared at me. They mixed up the orders, but ended up to okay. The food was good and reasonably priced.
Ordered “top 10 sushi with tuna roll”, the fish is so fresh. Good price for $30+ Also, ordered the teriyaki chicken bento about $18, along with deep fried oysters, California rolls and salad. The chicken doesn’t taste like teriyaki, it is just Chinese to-go style stir fried chicken with salty sauce. It was so salty that I only had one small piece of chicken. Very disappointed of the bento, so I took away 2 stars. The owner/ waitress are very polite and nice. keep refill the water. Good service.
I have been ordering food from here for 2 years now. I normally order their sushi’s and deserts. For the past year, Nihon’s restaurant has been making mistakes on my order. Don’t get me wrong, their sushi, miso and deserts are delicious but missing items in an ordering is very upsetting. Either my soda was not added in my bag and I was told that I’d need to request the soda next time or when I ordered fried ice cream but only received plain ice cream. What the hell!

Came here for lunch. Pros: Food was alright, the shrimp was good. Price is good and will intrigue you to order a lot. Food comes quick and wasn't packed. Cons: The rice wasn't that tasty or the app. A few parking spots in front. There wasn't anything memorable or worth coming back for more, except cheap prices. This will definitely be my last time.
I'm reading these reviews about the great sushi here. They must be old reviews because we have ordered twice from them through Uber eats. You would do better to get sushi at a supermarket, it's better quality. I ordered 3 spicy rolls, only got one. And the quality of fish is not good. You used to be great.

Dirty floors, sticky table, badly maintained walls etc., Served by a 14 or 13 year old boy. Sushi and sashimi was okay (at best) except the miso soup which tasted like melted plastic and had a refrigerator-cold bit of tofu and kelp at the bottom. I left it on the table. For how excellent the sushi is at other places in Bergen county, this one should be avoided.
Good price for good sushi. They only received 2 stars because the owners 2 pre-teen kids have no boundaries and will interact with you THE WHOLE TIME! Customers are not your babysitter
Just got the teriyaki chicken meal and fried cheesecake. I didn't enjoy the fried cheesecake. It was too mushy and some parts tasted somewhat like cheesecake while others didn't. It was weird, it was like eating a mix between a churro and a canoli with patches of uneven flavor. As for the teriyaki chicken, it would've been REALLY good but I bit into about 4 pieces of chicken that had a rubbery consistency and I had to spit out. For a meal that's almost $15, that's really disappointing. Maybe they had an off day but I don't see myself ordering from here again.
I came here because my usual place closes earlier on Sundays and I absolutely regretted it. The size of the rolls is VERY small. Portion size didn't match the price. Ordered on my way home from vacation and hit some traffic after I ordered. They called me asking where I was and I told them I hit traffic but would be there in 10 min. When my husband walked in, the lady grilled him on where we were that we hit traffic (we were on the PIP) and she was rude. Our leftover car snacks would have been better for dinner than this sushi.
I've seen a lot of positive reviews about this restaurant and a few recommendations from personal colleagues. That's why i decided to go. The service is acceptable, however the price and the quality of the food is complete and utter trash. Please excuse my language, but for the prices they charge, the quality of sushi should be a lot better. I ordered the love boat for two and ikura sushi. The ikura sushi was extremely salty. This indicates low quality as they need to add more salt to preserve the egg. The fish was not fresh at all. It exhibited the dull look of old fish meat. This can be attested to the smell. I could readily detect the odor of rotting fish; again indicating old fish. The taste was "funky" for a lack of a better word; off putting. The horse raddish was not fresh either. I honestly felt disgusted with my self for eating it, but i was hungry and i just shelled out 50 dollars for it! I honestly wanted to vomit. I went home and ate something immediately to get the rotting fish taste out of my mouth. The sushi is extremely over priced for the quality. 7 pieces of sushi for 21 dollars! Do yourself a favor avoid this place like the plague and go to East Japanese in Teaneck right off Teaneck road. You'll thank me for it! And if you read the review below, keep in mind he failed to post his name. I am putting my name on this review thats how mad I am about this "hidden gem" as the previous reviewer puts it. I also can't believe he would belittle East Japanese as a "filler up sushi joint." This guy is obviously getting a pay check from Nihon Kai.
Wasted my time. They dropped off a bunch of menus at my job a few days ago. Two of my co workers and I decided to order for delivery. We planned out our order and I called. It rang and rang. I then called back half hour later and it kept ringing again. According to the menu hours they are open for delivery but I guess they don’t want business. I’ll order else where.
Visiting friends in the area this week and stopped in on a Tuesday afternoon. Wasn’t busy at all. Waited a long time for our food and it didn’t look fresh at all. Wife felt sick when we drove back to Maryland the same night. Definitely won’t go back.
Unfortunately I think the quality of food here is going down. Last couple of orders of sushi made here did not taste fresh and some were very fishy to the point it was inedible. Which is too bad, they were pretty good once.
Buyer beware. Tried this place for the first time for takeout this evening and we will not be returning. The garden salad dressing was bland, a simple spicy tuna roll tasted fishy and another roll (sunshine roll) smelled like cheese? We ate our food anyway as we were starving which was a big mistake as my boyfriend and I are currently running back and forth to the bathroom. Perhaps the regular cooked food might be better but clearly they are not using fresh fish for their sushi!
Anyway I want to order lunch salmon teriyaki cuz it's cheaper but on that time I was on NY, I said my mom will pick it up and pay. And she'll be there in 2 hr. They said they can't wait that long, I told them they can cook it right now and it's fine if it gets cold. They still say they can't accept my order so they hang on me TWICE!!! 😲 WOW, the food is decent but the one whose handling the phone isn't and I'm a regular.HECK I DIDN'T REALIZED THAT THEY HANG ON ME.
