Opinions de PRAAW (พราว) Thai Berkeley Berkeley
Praaw is one of the most unique Thai restaurants in Berkeley. The food feels very authentic but presented in a modern way. You can really taste the balance of flavors and the freshness of ingredients. The Pad Thai with tiger prawns was amazing, and the curry dishes are rich and comforting. The atmosphere is cozy and stylish, with a cool Chiang Mai street vibe. Great place for dinner with friends or a casual date. Definitely coming back again.
What a wonderful atmosphere this place has! The service was quick, the décor was beautiful, and the food was absolutely delicious. I especially loved the Tom Yum Goong Hot Pot Soup (vegetarian version with tofu) — it was incredibly flavorful and perfectly spicy and hot. The Dok Jok pandan ice cream dessert was a real treat as well. The delicate pandan ice cream paired with the crispy topping created a lovely contrast in texture and a stunning presentation. I did notice a hint of spice and saltiness in the biscuit that I wasn’t expecting and could have done without, but it was a minor detail. The crab fried rice my husband ordered could have used a bit more flavor, or perhaps a more generous portion of the hot sauce on the side, which felt a little small. Overall, it was a great experience, and I’d happily return to try more of their dishes.
Great food and great vibes. Shrimp salad and pad see ew were excellent. Beautifully designed space. It feels like a trendy Thai restaurant in New York (except not as cramped).
Absolutely incredible AUTHENTIC Thai food! This place tastes exactly like home. Real, authentic Thai flavors with that special “mom-style cooking” that you can’t find anywhere else in the Bay. I ordered the Gui Chai and they have BOTH versions, crispy and steamed. Both are amazing! The crispy one is perfectly golden and crunchy, and the steamed one is soft, chewy, and full of flavor. Truly hard to find real Gui Chai made like this. The Nookie Karee Koog blew me away sweet-forward, fragrant, and so flavorful even after you finish the bite. Exactly how it tastes in Thailand. And the Pad Thai🫶🏾 OMG. The aroma reminded me of the street-style Pad Thai in Thailand cooked over charcoal. So nostalgic and authentic! Everything here tastes like it was cooked with love, real ingredients, and true Thai technique. One of the BEST Thai meals I’ve had in the US. Highly recommended ❤️🇹🇭✨
Such a nice ambiance, kind staff, and of course the food! Definitely need to get the Gui Chai (chive dumpling)! Loved the pumpkin curry and Dok Jok dessert was so beautiful and creative
The new owners have done an amazing job making this place their own. The menu is on the smaller side but that's because they make everything fresh in house and you can taste the quality. The atmosphere is a polished punk vibe that is clean and uncluttered with several nods to the Berkeley scene. Yeah, this is definitely my new spot for Thai food.
Very beautifully decorated restaurant with a variety of authentic dishes that are hard to find outside of Thailand. A nice combination of traditional dishes like Pad Thai, Tom Yum Soup, and Papaya Salad, and more creative ones like Ribeye Green Curry and Stir Fried Mama Noodles with Beef. Must order: Homemade Gui Chai (10/10) Plah Goong Kao Phad Mun Puu Mama Pad Kee Mao Beef Emily’s Dumplings
I’m Thai and I’ve been living in the U.S. for 15 years, whenever a new Thai restaurant opens, I always go check it out The whole atmosphere feels very Thai-Chinese style and instantly made me feel nostalgic. The music is chill and easy to listen to, and the vibe is like a relaxed bar where you can just sit, unwind, and hang out. It truly feels like a little piece of Chiang Mai away from home. Definitely a spot worth visiting if you’re into that cozy, laid-back mood. My favorite dish here is the Kao Pad Mun Puu crab fried rice topped with soft, creamy scrambled eggs, another is the Ka Ree Koong, stir-fried shrimp in curry powder with egg. It’s so creamy and perfectly balanced
Fantastic Thai food, flavors that are very unique in the East Bay. Will return to try the rest of the menu.
Food was fantastic. We tried a bunch of dishes and my favorites were the tom kha soup and scallion pancake
Such an amazing vibe! The food is authentically Thai and exactly what I’ve been looking for. Every single dish was full of flavor and so delicious. So proud of this place! Definitely comeback!!😊
Praaw Thai just opened recently and it’s already one of the best Thai spots around! We had Nookie’s Ka Ree Koong (creamy egg curry shrimp), Mama Pad Kee Mao with beef, Yum Neur (beef salad), and Emily’s Dumpling — everything was flavorful and authentically Thai. The shrimp was juicy, the noodles perfectly spicy, and the dumpling tasted just like home in Thailand. Cozy vibe, friendly staff, and beautiful decor. Highly recommend! 🇹🇭✨
Cozy and stylish spot in Berkeley! Loved the warm lighting and modern Thai vibe. Great place to unwind over dinner — authentic flavors and friendly service. Definitely a new favorite on Gilman Street
This restaurant is beautifully decorated, with a classic atmosphere. The food is delicious. I will definitely come back.
What a welcome addition to Berkeley. Tasteful decor, ambience, a vintage record player and jukebox and authentic high-quality Thai cuisine to boot. We’ll definitely be coming back, everything was delicious. Service was excellent. It’s taken over from the old Thai Corner spot.

The neighborhood needed a place like this VERY badly. Food, atmosphere, service, location - all top notch. So nice on the inside and would make a great date night spot, but also comfortable enough for an easy weeknight dinner. Most importantly it's run by ambitious young Thai people. It's authentic and delicious. I'm Thai and they made me feel so at home. The owners and staff are just such wonderful. It reminds me of eating at cool spots in Bangkok. Bottom line, I highly recommend this place. It's so good and we need to support spots like this in our community. So happy they're here.
Wonderful restaurant! The atmosphere was super fun and the food is incredible. I haven’t seen many of these dishes at other Thai spots in the Bay; ingredients were really fresh and everything had fantastic flavor. I’ll definitely be back!
This is a new business that took over the space from Thai Corner. They've improved the ambiance, though I got takeout this first time there. The food is tasty, the portions are large and the food is well presented (looks appetizing). I always get Pad Thai at a new Thai restaurant as my yardstick and these guys passed with flying colors - terrific Pad Thai! We also got Pad Se Yu, yellow curry and Papaya Salad. All of these were great as well. And it was reasonably priced overall.
Came here on a saturday afternoon with my friends. No wait since they are super new. Upon entering, it was a cozy yet modern atmosphere. They had small details that reminded me of Thailand, but most importantly the food! Every dish we got was superb. They did not miss on flavor profile!! It's been so hard to find a Thai Restaurant with no short cuts and real thai flavors. Most thai restaurants nowadays are more focused on presentation rather than flavor. This place gives me authentic and modern vibes all in one. Wish they served cocktails, but white wine complements the food very well. Do advise since they are so new, I believe it is just the owner and a few staff kitchen staff so please be patient. But it is so worth it. Plan on coming back here for my birthday. (:
The food was really good. The strawberry salad left such a strong impression on me, I keep thinking about it. What an interesting and delicious dish. The other dishes were also very good, and the restaurant was beautiful inside. You can really tell they are proud of what they are doing and offering.

Absolutely insane meal. Ribeye green curry, sea bass yellow curry, and cucumber salad were all 12/10. The cook on the ribeye and sea bass were PERFECT. The sea bass came with a cassava mash *CHEF’S KISS* No notes. They also have a lot of dishes that you don’t often see on Thai restaurants’ menus that I need to come back to try. Praaw has a gorgeous, well thought out interior. We went for lunch but I think the vibes will be even better during nighttime. The owners are super sweet and service was great.

We ordered via DoorDash. Food was really excellent. Spicing was excellent and met our request. Quantity was good so seems like the value is good

Superb! They serve delicious Thai food and authentic flavors that I used to have in Thailand! Started off with Chive Cakes and Shrimp Dumplings — OMG, so satisfying! The Crab Fried Rice was so tasty! You could taste the crab and they gave big, generous lumps of it too! Their Stir-Fried Shrimp Curry dish was amazing as well! The Coconut Ice Cream with Sticky Rice and a Thai-style crispy cookie was the perfect finish to the meal! The service is above and beyond! The owner, the chef and the server are so kind and generous! I love the look of the restaurant! So hip and cool looking vibe! Very impressive! I’ll definitely come back with more friends and for sure will become a regular customer!
Delicious Thai food in a newly renovated space that is cute, comfortable, and uniquely decorated. Service is warm and attentive. Great for takeout as well. Emily's dumplings and chive cakes were great starters. We have been several times, for lunch and dinner, and have enjoyed every meal. We have tried several entrees, all of which were excellent. Highly recommend the Kai Soi 13 dish! Wine and beer are very reasonably priced. All around a fantastic restaurant!
Mmmm. I'm so happy to find a Thai restaurant that focuses more on the savory than the sugar to flavor the food. Our meal was delicious. Right away when we walked in the vibe of the place made us feel relaxed and cozy. The vintage juke box in the back corner helped a lot. The proprietors are totally hip and laid back. Somehow our group ordered mild versions of dishes (we all thought the other was a light weight), which turned out to be lucky because the house-made chili crunch we were provided to remedy the situation was incredible. We got the pumpkin curry, the eggplant street food thing, and best of all was the Sea Bass dish, but all addictive. We went brown on the rice, and it was perfectly cooked. Several items on the menu were well marked as GF, but they were able to make some items GF that weren't meant to be that way (for one of us who is celiac), and the dishes didn't seem to suffer at all. Can't wait to try the glutenous version. I don't typically write reviews (as you can probably tell) but I do on occasion when I want to support a business I hope will stick around (totally selfish motives).
Marvelous update of the space! Certainly a big upgrade and the best it’s been since Toot Sweets days. And the service was perfect. That having been said we found the food disappointing. We both had different versions of pad Thai and the rice noodles were not adequately cooked and flavors were bland. With so many Thai options close by, the kitchen needs to step up it’s game. If they get it together, the place will be packed, it’s such a cozy lovely space.
