I had an amazing experience at this restaurant, thanks to Jason’s outstanding service. From the moment I sat down, he was attentive, friendly, and genuinely made me feel welcomed. He anticipated needs before I even had to ask, offered great recommendations, and handled everything with professionalism and a smile.
Awesome brunch experience. Food and service was great. Shoutout to our server Ever, he was amazing!!
They serve the main course twice that makes you full. It's a unique model restaurant. The inside was loud and crowded when we came. Huge dessert.
This place was pretty good. Most of the tables are all in the same area and pretty close together. I got the pineapple mule mocktail, and it was great. The bread came out very quickly. It was some of the best bread I’ve had. Very crunchy crust with great soft interior. The steak is sliced pretty thin and it was very good, especially with the sauce. The fries were also thin but very crispy and nice. I had asked for my first serving medium rare, which it definitely was, then requested medium for my second one which turned out correct as well. Then we got the key lime pie. It was amazing and came with a lot of whipped cream. Service was decent and friendly, but could’ve been a little bit more attentive and present more often. One thing to be aware of is that it’s pretty loud. I’d say this place is a very good deal for the price considering you get bread (which you can get more of for free), salad, and 2 servings of high quality steak and fries for $30.
If you're looking for a brunch spot that perfectly balances quality, value, and ambiance, look no further than Median Rare. At $32 per person, the brunch package includes a delightful array of offerings. For our first course, we indulged in the French toast and the steak frites with eggs. Both dishes exceeded expectations, with the steak frites stealing the show. The sauce accompanying the steak was a perfect 10/10, enhancing the already tender steak, while the fries were flawlessly executed - thin, crispy, and wonderfully seasoned. But what truly elevated our experience was the bottomless mimosas, expertly poured by Pete and Orivin at the bar. They ensured our glasses were never empty, keeping the festive atmosphere alive and well. The cozy and rustic vibe of the restaurant provided the perfect backdrop for our brunch, complemented by trendy music selections including tracks from artists like Ariana Grande and hits from Any Winehouse. It's the kind of place where you can kick back, enjoy great food and drinks, and soak in the lively ambiance. In conclusion, Median Rate Brunch offers a fantastic brunch experience that won't break the bank. With delectable food, attentive service, and a charming atmosphere, it's a must-visit for brunch aficionados and casual diners alike.
Medium rare is one of my favorite restaurants in the DC area. It's the best value steak house I've ever dined at. Make sure you save room for dessert as well, they have some great options.
Friendly staff, great price! Love their bread’s butter. Unlike other restaurant, They played a recorded French lesson in the restroom so you can learn some French sentences/ word while in it .
Received impeccable service from Jason at Medium Rare in Bethesda today. Jason was attentive and helpful when bringing drinks and food, as well as taking orders. This was my first time at medium rare and it was phenomenal. I will definitely be returning.
Set menu, everything was great from to staff to the food. Great atmosphere. Casual and amazing dessert
So tasty! Even got the most lovely little Sundae at the end with some great chocolate balls!!! Ever was a fantastic server!!!
Came in on Wednesday and was seated immediately. Staff was friendly and food came out quickly. Salad was very welled dressed. Steak was cooked perfectly and tender. Fries were crispy. Sauce was very good. For $28, it was a great meal. Small wine list but good selections. I will certainly be coming back next time I am in town.
If you visit Bethesda in Maryland, the first thing to do is to have a meal at Medium Rare restaurant. This is my second visit to this restaurant. The taste of the food stay in your memory waiting for the next visit. They bring the food in two parts, after you finish the first dish they surrprise you with refill. The dish has the steak and fried potatoes. You need 1:15:00 min to enjoy finishing your meal. You can park on the road and pay $2 per hour.
My overall take of the restaurant, is that it serves delicious food with quality service. The bread was tasty, the exterior was not over crispy, but very crumy. The salt that came on the side had a salted exterior. The main is the steak, since it is such a thin steak and thinly cut, don't expect to get a hot steak, it's going to be room temperature at best. It is seasoned with salt and pepper. My first steak was over cooked and the second one came out as asked. The salad was amazing and has a great sauce on it. The fries are my favorite style fries and they are to die for, this has to be my new favorite fry place, they are served salted. Dinner can be split by two people, since you do get two servings. As the restaurant got full the service started to slow down. I would say the restaurant has a dark rustic look. The main entrance can get a bit stuffy since they only give you 4 feet from door to the hostess table. If you have vision problems and can not see in low light, I highly recommend avoiding this place as they keep the place very dim and do not turn the lights up.
Unbeatable value, you got bread, salade and steak. Taste is also great, steak is tender, fries is crispy. You get a free second steak and fries. They copied the steak entrecote concept restaurant in France and am all for it.
An amazing dining experience! The food was absolutely delicious. The steak was seasoned perfectly, it needed no sauce whatsoever. The fries were genuinely incredible, so crispy and salty. The service was great too! For dessert, we got the ice cream sundae and it was so dun and delicious. Such a wonderful evening!!
Extremely well cooked and flavorful steak. Had to have the second helping, of course. The sauce adds a great touch to both the meat and the frites. Would highly recommend to anyone who likes steak frites to visit.
The server Ever and Chris made our night so special. A good friend turned 21 tonight and they gave us a wonderful experience with great food and service. They even helped us blow up the birthday balloons to rush for our birthday friend’s arrival. 10/10 service, food, and experience!!
Went on a Thursday night around 8:30. My wife walked in and was able to be seated but had some trouble getting a server. When I went to the front I was immediately accommodated with a server where we chose to sit outside as we didn't like where we were seated within the dining room. The menu is a pre fixed menu with bread coming out first, a small salad and then rib eye steak I belive and fries. The food was very good, the bread is just bread so if that's your thing you'll love it. The salad was very small but the dressing they used was so good, I think it had a hint of horseradish or grey poupon mustard. The steak was over cooked for me but I think they got it right for my wife, we both requested our steaks to ve done to medium. The first round of steaks was okay, whatever sauce they give you for it is absolutely divine. The fries are just regular shoe string fries, either you like them or you don't. We initially thought the portions were too small and it wasn't worth the price of admission but we were pleasantly surprised to get a second course of steak and fries included in the price which immediately shot up the value of the meal. The second round of steaks was cooked much better and had more flavor. The wine in the picture was really good, so good me and my wife went to look for it over the weekend at total wine. Overall it Medium Rare is a very good place to eat if you just want a simple meal of steak and fries.
Steak and fries are the only items they really offer as the main entree and as an appetizer mushrooms. All you have to do is tell them the your temperature preference for the steak! 5 stars for 5 reasons 1. The thinly sliced steak was juicy, tender and done to perfection. Slight aftertaste but can’t put my finger on it, but nonetheless, it was good! 2. The fries were done perfectly and super crispy! 3. The mushroom was tasty and worth trying. The red sauce was mild. 4. The price was 33 per person! Well priced for Bethesda location. 5. Quantity is good for 33! AFTER THE FIRST ROUND THEY COME BACK 2nd TIME TO FILL YOUR PLATE WITH MORE FRIES AND STEAK! ( no the temp requested) Good bread and fantastic salad! Dressing amazing!
We had a wonderful dining experience! Edgar was an amazing server. He was attentive, personable, and truly went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. The food was delicious, though it would be nice if servers asked whether guests prefer gravy on the side. The cocktails were excellent, especially the seasonal hot toddy. My only small critique is that it was served in a wine glass, which made it a bit too hot to handle. A mug or maybe even a clear glass one with a decorative, seasonal sugar rim would have been the perfect touch for presentation and comfort. Overall, great food, fantastic service, and a lovely atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back and will request Edgar every time!
A little smaller and packed than the DC/Cleveland park location but still great service and food. Their weekend bottomless brunch is out of this world and probably the best quality brunch I've had in Bethesda. I had my steak well done and it was perfect with their signature fries and salad. Their salad dressing is amazing. I had their bottomless Mimosas which were also no nonsense and highly recommended for any serious drinker ahem cocktail connoisseur lol (can be substituted with screwdrivers or bloody Marys which have also been official the many times I've been here).
Medium Rare in Bethesda offers an exceptional dining experience. The steak is perfectly cooked, tender, and flavorful, complemented by crispy fries and a delicious house special sauce. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, and the service is friendly and attentive. Highly recommended for steak lovers!
Steak fries are delicious, set menu (32$) includes salad bread. Drinks are expensive i.e. glass of sparkling wine was 12$. The nice touch is that you get seconds of steak and fries included.
Walked in and saw the menu and almost walked out! But it was fabulous and we enjoyed our time! Relax atmosphere good food good drinks! Fabulous service!
This place is brilliant. I walked in and didn't know they offered double portions--which is really quite something; expect the second steak. Delicious and good. I like restaurants that just focus on one thing and getting it right. Salad was great too.
This place was really nice Easy to « choose what to eat » as there is only one option and that’s a really good one ! The quantity is very generous ! The bread is definitely not as good as the one you would find in France but it’s not that bad ..! The fries are delicious ! We’ll definitely come back
The food and service was fantastic! Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating and will definitely be returning here for bottomless brunch! Would recommend for any small OR large groups! Shoutout to Ever for the great service! Would recommend asking for him when you’re by.
Less is more! They have a limited menu but seem to have perfected what they're good at. The steak is tender and the fries are flavorful. Service and vibe is also great. What you get for the price is remarkable.
Medium Rare is a carnivore’s paradise! The perfectly cooked, juicy medium-rare steak was a flavor explosion, tender and bursting with savory goodness. The ambiance is cozy yet vibrant, and the service is top-notch, making every bite a delight. A must-visit for meat lovers craving a memorable dining experience!
I sometimes order a steak when I go out to dinner and then I'm disappointed after because I wish is was Medium Rare's steak. Like Medium Rare's steak has a chock hold on my pallet. It's ruined all other steaks for me. And I love it. Do not skip a chance to meal there. Period.
Ever was an amazing waiter. He made us feel extremely comfortable and was super attentive to our tables needs. Food was phenomenal and well worth the price. Again thank you Ever for being a 10/10 server.
The food is great although the only thing you can get is a steak. So all you do is choose is how cooked you want your steak. There is great service but you do need to ask them for things like ketchup and if you want the sauce on the side but the overall service is great. The one issue is that it gets really busy so I recommend reserving a table and it can get a bit noisy at times. But overall an amazing restaurant except for the price.
Chris, our server, was great! He took care of all our needs with a lot of professionalism and a smile. The table was cold for us so he offered a table in a warmer area so we could enjoy our diner. I highly recommend!
Good amount of food for the price. It’s a prefixed menu. Bread, salad, steak, and fries. I asked for my sauce on the side, which I think was a good move. I liked the flavor but it has kind of a floury/grainy texture. Some people loved it. It just wasn’t my style. The salad was very good and the fries were fresh. We ordered chocolate cake to go and it was delicious! Highly recommend, if you’re a chocolate lover. The service was great at this restaurant. Every table was filled. Lots of families. Easy parking at the garage nearby. Garage parking is free on Sundays.
We had an issue with Open Table not sending the proper information to the restaurant for our reservation, but the staff worked our group in anyway on a very busy night. The hostess was really nice and understanding, taking a look at the confirmation from Open Table on my phone, then handling the situation. What followed was a great meal with great service.
Came in for brunch for the very first time, greeted by the hostess and Cameron the manager on duty. We felt to welcomed by them. food came out fast we had the steaks and eggs and it was so good. drinks were amazing. We had kids with us and hostess provided us some crayons and the kids had so much fun just drawing on the table paper. Absolutely coming back. We loved every single detail of our experience
I was lucky to find this location on a business trip after I drove down from NY I was on the way to another restaurant and saw MR and stopped immediately as I was at the OG in DC! Had been 4-5 years since I was in the DC location…Never disappoints! Jessica and James engaged me with conversation and were very attentive! I sat at the bar and felt right at home! We need one in Westchester County NY! Thank you!
DoorDash was great! Two steak dinners, chocolate cake (huge!) and key lime pie. We heated up an iron plate to sear our steak slices and heat up our fries. Wonderful DoorDash experience for around $100 for two people Would love to see another dressing option from here, blue cheese? Or ranch? The vinaigrette was lack luster but the greens were so fresh and the best! Also would have used additional gravy portion as well as some ketchup. Bread arrived a bit overcooked but I’m sure it’s good in restaurant.
First time eating at this location in Bethesda. Enjoyed several meals at the Cleveland Park restaurant. Experience was very similar, enjoyable meal, well prepared, delicious food served by friendly attentive staff. It's simple - tell them how you like your steak prepared, sit back and enjoy. Decent enough wines, steak always cooked the way we like it - Medium rare. Fries are crispy and well seasoned, the salad fresh with tasty vinaigrette. Warm bread throughout with seconds of steak or fries should you desire. In neither location have we ever ordered dessert so can't speak to that portion of the menu. In a silly twist, I do enjoy the bazooka bubblegum that accompanied the check.
Nice place for a prix fixe brunch that contains bottomless drinks which includes Mimosas, Screwdrivers, and Bloody Marys as alcoholic options. There are five entree options and even a substitution that makes one of the choices vegan by using a portabella mushroom. The portions aren't too large - which can be a good or bad thing. Service is very friendly.
Very friendly wait staff. Food was well seasoned and very tasty. Will be back for sure with the kids.
Ate dinner here as part of a large group. First round of country bread was cold and chewy, second round was warm and delightful. Took two tries but finally got a salad with the bland vinegrette on the side. The flank steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare but with a forgettable brown sauce atop. The shoestring fries were the winner, thin and crispy and far too many to be good for you. Apparently seconds are available but mostly of the fries. The cocktails were great, especially the blackberry sangria. Some folks had desserts, which were all double or quadruple portions.
Great brunch!! The bottomless brunch is a great value at $29.95. The champagne came quickly without a big gap in between. There were 4 of us at brunch so we got a carafe of orange juice and the bottle for us to fill by ourselves. The French toast was a definite winner, not sure what kind of bread they use but it’s AMAZING. Not a huge sausage fan so i wish there was a bacon option but even the sausage was very good. The staff was friendly and upbeat I wish I remembered our severs name to give him his props as well. Only negative thing I would say is I wish the brunch menu was a little bigger but a small menu has allowed them to provide consistently amazing food. The outside seating also was very nice. Set a reservation and you’ll be sure to have a good time.
Great place in Bethesda if you like meat and potato. The meat is decent, but the portions are plentiful so the value is great. A no frills place to take your family or date when you don't have to argue about the menu. Love this place.
This place is based on the steak frites formula made famous by Le Relais de l’Entrecote in Paris, only they have done it with coulotte/picanha instead of ribeye. Overall the food was very good although the salad was a bit underwhelming. The bread, steak, and fries were all delicious and the price was a bargain. I’ll be back for more!
I was brought to this restaurant by some friends. I should start by saying my friends love this place. I should also say that I don't care for the menu design, but I can usually get around that. The menu is steak frites, literally steak and fries, and that's it. The only question the wait staff asks is "how do you like your steak cooked?" And that's virtually it. You can substitute mushrooms for steak if you want. Nothing else on the menu a far as I know. Actually more desserts than entrees and sides. Maybe I'm not a world traveler, but I have not been to any restaurant that has such a limited menu. With that said, it started with a rustic bread which has a thick crispy crust and wasn't bad. The garden salad had various greens which looked inviting and just a couple cherry tomatoes cut in half. It was very lightly dressed with a dressing, the nature of which I forget. It wasn't bad but not memorable. Sorry, I was eating at several restaurants this week. The steak came cut in about 10 or 12 slices with a cream sauce on it. We were not aware of this ahead of time, but the sauce was tasty and I like sauces fortunately. Steak was properly cooked and juicy. The frites were shoestring fries done properly, think McDonald's on their best day - good but nothing special. Best of all, you get seconds on steak and fries, or frites. My second of steak had a string in it so that was unpleasant. The rest of my party had no such issue. The wait staff was very good and attentive. We sat outside because it was a pleasant day so I did not see the inside of the place. I'm sure it's very nice. Fault me for not knowing that the menu was so limited. That's on me. I was at least expecting some variety and a more elegant meal. I'm not sure what this place is trying to be. Now this is a chain so others obviously get it. I had minor issues with each meal component. In the end for me, it comes down to price point. Even for what this restaurant offers, I cannot justify the price for what it is. Like I said earlier, me friends love it.
If you like M. Night Shaymalan, you'll enjoy Medium Rare. With the name "Medium Rare", you'd think they be able to execute it. I will give them credit for one thing... AMAZING Carrot Cake!! But it was one layer short... no harm done.
Went on a rainy Tuesday evening, hoping for a cozy, unpretentious, friendly place. Found myself in a noisy, busy, crowded, dimly lit room, seated facing a brick wall. Could barely hear myself thinking, let alone talking, it was so noisy. The food is just one-dish-fits-all for all the guests - thinly cut French fries, and thinly cut stake (sirloin?), with iceberg lettuce they called salad, and nicely thick slices of bread. Had to borrow salt and pepper from the table next to me. All that, plus one glass of wine, at $98.00 for two people. I will not go there again.
We loved the service that the staff provided. They were all extremely pleasant. However, my good things to say about this eatery stop there. The limited menu and steak options should maybe be revised. The cut is too lean and dry and the steak is not well made. There’s no sear and the flavor is extremely bland. There’s no butter, garlic, or thyme taste anywhere. The “special sauce” does not have any redeeming qualities either. For a restaurant called “medium rare” I was so disappointed, being that is my favorite steak temperature. There is no variety in the choices of steak type when you order dinner and the sides are set at salad and fries. The salad was the best menu item I tasted.
Unfortunately, I did not get to try the food at Medium Rare because my experience was poor upon entry to the restaurant and that is where I decided to end the experience. My husband and I were waiting at the host stand to be seated. An older, white couple came in behind us. When the hostess returned, we were completely ignored while the couple behind us was warmly welcomed and addressed. The other couple informed the hostess that the other half of their party has not arrived yet. That is when the hostess decided to greet and address us. It was not busy. There were plenty of tables available of varying size. She escorted us to a table in the middle of multiple parties. My husband and I wanted a quiet, cozy evening together over some steak so we asked to be seated at a more tucked away table. She then told us she plans to seat the other party there (the INCOMPLETE party that arrived AFTER us and could fit anywhere else in the dining room). At that point, I felt I was being treated unfairly and decided to leave. I will not be back and will not be recommending to any of my neighbors or friends in the area.
