What an amazing little pub tucked away in Big Sur. Great selection of beers and a tasty menu - no frills just honest grub and generous servings. I particularly liked the way the pub is set out with lots of different spaces to sit, set apart cleverly to create an intimate atmosphere. Old tools and fairy lights as decor is fun too.
Mmm. Yum yum in my tum tum 😛. My sweets and I have come here everyday on our brief vacation away from my pestilent kids and I have to say- this is the best place to eat if you’re sad and want to shovel food (and beer) into your greedy body. I would recommend the beyond tacos (unless you prefer eating animals, then indulge in some meat tacos) and the fajita quesadilla for some crunchy peppery goodness. Just don’t drive home because this place will have you loaaaaded! 🫨
Always friendly!! I love stopping in here when I am in my favorite part of the coast, Big Sur. Rotating daily specials packed with flavor and options for everyone. The Beyond Burger on Mardi Gras Monday was perfect!! Tinga chicken tacos on Taco Tuesday were spicy and yummy. Both paired perfectly with a glass of draft cider. Make sure to take a seat on the patio and enjoy the crazy jays that like to “talk” with everyone.
This is one of my favorites in the area! The specials are the absolute best value in big sur, and the food is always really good. Service is always great, atmosphere is AWESOME! You can have a cozy romantic booth inside or go up to an insane patio with fantastic views. It's also a full bar if you party.
What a cool spot! Brought the kiddos here for a quick bite to eat on our way home. My daughter and I shared the grilled veggie tacos. 3 huge tacos and they were super good. My boy enjoyed a corn dog from the deli next door. Spent 10 minutes in the gift shop and loved the seating. See ya next time!
Had a nice dinner here on a Monday night. Food was good and the staff was very friendly. They have good local beers on tap. Quite a few "locals" so you know it must be OK. The best part was a couple guys just apparently randomly came in with a cello and a guitar and started playing some good stuff. It was not super crowded. The food was very good. I had fish tacos. Your phone probably won't work so get on their WiFi to do their QR code menu. They also have a posted menu which is different and the online menu is also different so I'm not sure what is available but looks like it's all good.
I got one of the best sandwiches premade there ever in my life. It was so good.
Love the vibe here! Good beers on tap and cool people.
Sorry no photos, but this is a nice location. There’s great outdoor seating above the tap house and the food was very good. For such a remote location, the beer selection was great as well. We drove down from north of Monterey. It was a beautiful, worthwhile drive.
So delicious!!! Went here after a 5 mile hike. The guy at the bar was super laid back and the Steelers were on with a great local crowd. The food was another level of the best cheesesteak we’ve ever had. Huge portions.
The Bixby BBQ Pork Sandwich is MASSIVE!! And tastes soo good. If you're looking for something to fill you up, look no further
Great gem of a place. Totally unpretentious with a super solid selection of beer. The courtyard in the back was lovely and had a great feel to it.
Great little spot for everyone. Cozy and small indoor area and then a hidden gem outside, with an upper deck patio. The food portions are huge and delicious. The staff is friendly and service was great. This was definitely a perfect spot to eat after a long day hiking and exploring.
OMG best cheese steak I've ever eaten and only could eat half sooo big! Delicious
Delicious food for a decent price in a cozy spot.
Stopped here for lunch while visiting Big Sur. Ample seating for dine in. I ordered the Baja fish tacos and it was delicious! There was no wait and parking was a breeze.
Dive bar vibes with decent food and big portions. They run specials on certain days and I happened to be there for burger Wednesday, they have a few different burgers with different toppings. I got the Big Mac-Way Falls burger, it was good, I’d order it again. My partner got the nachos, which were huge. There’s a lot of mediocre food in Big Sur and rip-off touristy spots, but Big Sur Taphouse does everything right without all the pretense or snobbery you might find elsewhere.
Very chill and friendly pub in a Big Sur. This place may not look like much from the outside but it was fantastic. They have a large dog friendly patio nestled in the trees. Enjoy delicious pub fare and great beers on tap while viewing the beautiful Big Sur mountains.

The most incredible food ( got fish tacos and calamari) and loved the little patio in the back! Portion size was also pretty good given this place is pretty touristy!

Damn good corn dogs and plentiful outdoor seating with views of the hills.

Great locals hang out! Really cool place, great beer selection and best French dip I've ever had. Great staff, fun place.
We spent an evening on the back patio. We had the pretzel, and a few glasses of wine. The pretzel was hot and delicious. The two sauces were great too. I also loved that it was decorated for Halloween.
We celebrated the opening of Highway One through Big Sur by driving up from Malibu to Santa Cruz on an absolutely perfect winter day. We wanted to watch the Rams/Seahawks game. Nepentge doesn't have TV so we pulled into Big Sur Tap House just before kickoff. We comforted ourselves with comfort food. A nice plate of nachos and some chicken bites or whenever you call them. Tenders. I was with German Tim, so he drank beer and he gave it the thumbs up It was a nice crowd. And there's a crew of smoky rascals there who remind me of growing up in Santa Cruz in the seventies if you know what I mean. Big Sur Road was spectacular driving up and even more so, driving back: The hills were as green as Ireland, the sunlight was golden, the sky was blue, the water was Carribean clear and there were whales spouting. We stopped at the gift shop to buy some stickers and they have a good deli there. If I had any friends, I would tell them, but I don't so I'm telling you.
Always a perfect stop in Big Sur. The locals are friendly, the beer is cold, and the food is perfection. If you are a local or tourist this is a great place to make good friends and enjoy great beer. Sports is always on and board games or chess available. Perfect for a stop off on a drive down the coast.
We stumbled upon this place after a short hike and it ended up being some of the best food we had during our entire California trip. The most delicious sandwiches I’ve ever had in my life. Vibes were immaculate. Service was great. Highly recommend to stop in on your Big Sur road trip

The Tap House was rather cozy, but plenty of space to accommodate the guests. The parking was hectic, but that's to be expected. I was impressed at the selection, and pleased with the available WiFi in an area otherwise lacking cell reception. I would definitely make a stop here again if I'm passing through! Extra points for a counter perfect for stashing helmets!
The dining area at the back of Taphouse was pretty chill. It was a hidden surprise. They also have power outlet for recharge on the very right. Their garlic fries were very fresh and tasty. We were quite underwhelmed with the chicken as they were precooked though they were reheated. They tasted like frozen chicken from grocery store.
Close to the campsite we were staying at, this looked like a nice place to get dinner. I wasn't hungry but at the same time, I wasn't sure what time breakfast was going to be the next day. I ordered a BBQ chicken sandwich which had chips and a pickle. For a drink I ordered a light beer. My friend ordered a chicken quesadilla and a rootbeer. The vibe is definitely a cabin feel the rain outside made it feel like that even more.
This was our 2nd time here and we had lunch. My husband and I ordered from a special menu. I had a chicken parmesan sandwich and he had a Cubano. The chicken parm was very good. Lots of chicken, cheese and sauce. My husband also liked his Cubano. Our daughters had a caprese sandwich and a pork quesadilla. They thought the quesadilla was better than the caprese. Previously, we stopped here to have a drink and watch a football game. They had a great beer selection, including Pliny the Elder. The bartender was very helpful in assisting me with a beer selection and put the game on the TV for us. The patio upstairs was a nice place to watch the game.
For being one of the very few food options in Big Sur, it was a nice surprise to find this place. The Taphouse is half restaurant and half convenience store. It was pretty cool looking around the store while waiting for our food to come out. The menu was surprisingly sizeable, but the food was delicious! It was honestly some of the best onion rings I've ever had. Our sandwiches were also good as well. Though the service was very kind, it did take some time for our food to be received. But that was really the only gripe. Also note that it's a single bathroom out in the back, so be prepared to wait if there's a good amount of people. Otherwise, we were treated well and had a great lunch here!
Fish tacos are sooo good (to good to get a picture, sorry). They had delicious French fries on Friday but didn’t have any on Saturday sadly. We tried a few sandwiches on Saturday they were okay. Cool atmosphere, laid back. Met two other families outside dining area with toddlers. Kids had a blast running around but it did cause lots of dirt to kick up.
I came here with some friends after a day of hiking in Big Sur, and we had a great time. This cozy taproom is situated right on Hwy 1, and features 13 rotating taps and a food menu, and an awesome back patio. We ordered the chicken tacos (super good), nachos (with pork also good) and a pizza. The pizza was decent but I think the crust could be a bit better; it tasted/felt like a premade/frozen crust. Otherwise, the food we had was delicious. The bartender and server on duty were super friendly and made the whole experience that much better. They were good about sanitizing tables between guests, and they'll bring your order to your table. I will definitely be coming back again!
Food was surprisingly good. Service was not much when entered the place. Friendly once figured out on own how ordering Happened. Small selection of beer with a big patio seating area. Watch out for bird poop when sitting under the trees. Heard they had great fish tacos but they didn’t have them when we were there.

Great outdoor seatings. Portions are huge!! Lot of chicken in the Quesadilla but the meat is a bit dry; decent cheese steaks sandwich but it is also missing some dressing so it tend to be on the dry side. The Reuben sandwich is perfectly served though.

Mediocre. The food here is not great and the atmosphere is not much better. There is outdoor seating upstairs and in back, but no view and it is just picnic tables. You order at the bar and they bring the food out to you. The caprese sandwich was lukewarm with mushy cheese and minimal flavor. Chips were really oily and left me feeling sick after just a couple. The bruschetta was okay, but not worth the cost. Tasted the cider, but it was too sour for me and they only had the one cider option. The restroom is outside and not attached to the restaurant. The restaurant is just off the 1 so easy to access.
Stopped at the small store not the tap bar, No customer service skills at all, 4 worker's sat there as they ate their snacks and made themselves food we were denied service at 6:00pm. Had kids with us, Not dietary sensitive, Overcharged products like snack foods and drinks. I purchased nothing and I wouldn't if I were you. Go down the road, great food and service at Nepenthe. Plus the view is more than worth the while! The photos are the difference between the two, it's very evident who too choose. Hope their attitudes were worth it, my time surely is.
