Food was fantastic!! Always a great experience. My jalapeño Margarita with tajin was delish, too!
Food was so delish. The staff was sociable and attentive. Prices were fair for the quality of the food.
It's been awhile since I've been in but still as amazing as I remember! Steak is off the hook and the bartender Linsey is super friendly, worth coming back!
Amazing atmosphere. Delicious foods; small and large plates. Expansive drink menu and wine deals!
Enjoy the quiet, cleanliness and as well as Gabys attention on how our meals were etc she was simple and great couldn't ask for more on bday date
Excellent food excellent service and reasonably priced. Definitely try the hummus the steak fries and the flatbread pizza. Yum.
Moved here from Boston, this is easily my fave restaurant in Binghamton. Please don’t ever get rid of the pork belly tacos or Mac n cheese!!
Good food and drink. Lots of craft beers and fairly upscale inside. Service was great.
I asked the love of my life to marry me here. They were wonderful and made our evening an absolute joy. 💯
The food was amazing(especially the tuna lettuce wraps), service was great. We had no problems
As a Bavarian exchange student I loved the annual "Oktoberfest". Even though it is not the same, the music remind me on home and gave me a good feeling.
Great vibe. They have a really good jazz band that comes in on Thursdays while they run $5 martini
Overpriced, but it caters to the college crowd so its unfortunately expected. Locals have better and more choices but if in the downtown area, its a good place to visit.
Amazing food you will not be disappointed! Stopped by here while visiting town and I have to say that I may have to come back to Binghamton just to eat here again!
Wow! Just wow we enjoyed every part of our dining experience. Thank you for the great service!
The food here was amazing and the coffee was good unlike other places where it's bitter
Took my wife for restaurant week, and we thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes that were ordered. I will be back...
Best culinary experience I've had in Binghamton by a longshot, better than Number 5, and Kampai. I had the 10oz Smoked Filet, which was one of the best steaks I've ever had, coming slightly short of NYC/LI steakhouses like Tellers or Peter Lugers. The drinks and deserts were also on point. Really really impressed and surprised! Will be coming back for sure.
Love coming here. Great food. Small plates are the best. Offer specials that change. Service is always great. Love it when weather is good and we can eat outside.
Amazing food! It's a limited menu but the selections are outstanding! We will absolutely be back soon. !
A surprisingly nice establishment. Good food and drinks, speakeasy style. The entrance is disguised as a bookcase. Probably the best place in Binghamton if you aren't slumming it
Went here for a graduation dinner, we didn’t to get a little bit of everything. I enjoyed everything honestly! The steak fries are phenomenal btw
In town for work. This is the best dinner and service combo I have had yet. Server was very attentive and medium rare strip was perfect.
The tapas was amazing with the spicy tuna tower the highlight of the four dishes we ordered. Great craft beer selection, too. We'll stop back next time we're in the area.
Had brunch there with some college friends for homecoming. The food was great minus the pork that a friend had requested to put in the eggs. The non meat eggs were delicious. Next time I'm in Binghamton I'll certainly be back to have a bite to eat.
Great scene, and had a nice bar for drinks. We went on a Thursday night and was glad to see it was not too busy, but still was a good crowd. I will be back again to try the food 👍
The food here is always delicious and they have some surprising variety for the area! You can even get some delicious octopus! Trust me, you won't regret giving it a try! They have more usual dishes, but everything has a twist to it that makes it that much better! Always a pleasure to visit and get delivery in this uncertain time.
Absolutely worth the stop. This is the best date night restaurant we’ve found in the area by far; the food was excellent and fairly reasonably priced. Service on our visit was just ok, but I think she was pretty new at this and will get better.
I'm a visitor to binghamton and I was looking for good food. I went to what I thought was Social on state (that's what the door said). Apparently it is really The Kitchen Counter, a local food truck that has parked here for the winter (per the server). Either way, the food was delicious. I had the chicken pesto with a glass of reisling and the tiramisu cake. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The decor is modern. I'd come again if I lived in the area.
Came and got dinner with a large group and we had a great time. Service was prompt and friendly, dinner and drinks were tasty and good value. Plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. One of the best eateries downtown for sure.
The food and service was excellent. I was with a group of 5. We had been traveling for 7 hours and had 3 more to go. We asked if they could serve us in 30 minutes and the food came in 10! Shrimp tacos, the best chicken lettuce wraps ever, brussel sprouts with or without bacon, grilled artichoke hearts... All INCREDIBLE & DELICIOUS. Thank you!
One of the best margaritas I ever had! The grilled octopus and pork belly are some of the best I have had in the area. You also cannot go wrong with the charcuterie.
Family of 4, we tried a bunch of things from the menu and that ended up being one of the best dining experiences we've had in a very long time! What we tried: delicious Pork belly/pine apple skewers, Caesar salad (crispy chickpeas instead of croutons is such a nice change), awesome steak with garlic butter and home-made steak fries, mac and cheese (a monument in itself), a nice cheese board, and the falafel salad too. No room for desert!
Braised short rib was amazing. Highly recommend. The octopus has great flavors and an unexpectedly delicious curry. It needs a crunchy element like naan or something but still amazing. Friendly staff and good drinks!
Fantastic food. We had four people and ordered a lot. The waitress recommended 2 to 3 plates per person, but frankly it's closer to 2 than 3. The chef even came out and talked to us. Would go again.
I had a very nice meal at Social on State. I would highly recommend the Asian Sea Bass and the Fried Burrata. It can get very busy during rush hours so make sure you have a reservation to avoid the wait!
Excellent. Took my family and dog (they allow pets in the nice patio in back). Food is Mediterranean fusion, something like entree size tapas. The falafel was delightful, as was the grilled octopus. Service was outstanding.
Excellent food, service, and beer selection. KBS on draft was a great surprise and the buratta appetizer was a hit with our group. The braised short rib and shaved brussel sprouts was one of my favorite meals ever.
Great food! Prices are a little steep for a casual night out, but food is worth it. Has more of a hip, trendy, spartan vibe. Our server, Abby, was very cheerful and accommodating.
Smoked old-fashioned is always on point l, steak was delicious and the Brussel sprouts are fantastic. Only issue was the service didn't match the vibe of the place... or the price.
The food and drinks were both great. Loved the bubbly peach bowl that came out in a fish bowl. The food was all interesting and creativly presented. The fries came with three sauces to dip. The aioli was to die for. The cauliflower had a good kick to it and the tuna tower was awesome. A great place to share small plates with friends. Ask to sit outside. The patio out back has a cool beach deck vibe. Over all great place!
This was restaurant week - fixed price limited menu dinner at $25pp. Tapas were way being tapas size for many dishes - could easily have been a full meal for one person. Tapas were eclectic and multi ethnic. Every one delicious. Highly recommended.
This place is simply beautiful! We came for our anniversary and they absolutely killed it! They were very generous and kind and made us feel so welcome! We have told all of our friends and family about this place. Yes, we were a little creeped walking to but oh my you definitely have to check this place out! Food is phenomenal, literally nothing was bad we had multiple plates. The drinks were great! The melon shots are so yummy! Again, phenomenal gorgeous place would recommend to literally anyone!
This was a taste extravaganza! We were just passing through town, but found this on Yelp and were in the mood for Tapas. It was a little hard to get to (the GPS took us to the next street, probably because State street was under construction), and then of course we had to find (free) parking. But once inside, it was such a cool vibe. Their craft drink list was superb. My boyfriend and I each had one (I can't recall what the names were, although his was a take on a whiskey sour), and they were excellent. We ordered the Arugula Burrata salad, which was delicious (I was sad when it was over), Asparagus fries (think Asparagus tempura and you'd be very close), and the meatballs. All excellent! And when we have excellent food, we must order dessert, so we tried their take on pineapple upside down cake, only it was a trifle! If you like pineapple, you will love it -- light and fluffy and pineappley! Excellent service, genuinely friendly, and very cool vibe. Highly recommend it!
This is a hidden gem with a NY City Vibe. You can order tapas (small plate items) or delicious entrees. The waitress was very attentive to my allergies. Photos include the Wedge Salad, Atlantic Salmon with broccoli and potato puree, and the Beef Short Rib with shaved crispy brussel sprouts and potato puree. The father and son sitting at the table next to us said that their Mac n Cheese is the creamiest and tastiest they've ever had!
Had dinner and drinks here Sunday night and it was really good. It was nice to get out and feel like things are normal for a while. I ordered two of the crispy pork belly tacos, and they were so good I ordered two more. Honestly, probably one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life.
We really enjoyed our meal at Social on State. Everyone was very friendly and attentive and the food was very good! We had the lobster sliders, fried burata, tuna tartar, steak tartar, chocolate fondue, and chocolate cookie souffle and everything was very good. We would definitely go back.
Amazing bartender (Mikayla), fast, friendly service and very knowledgeable. Their signature drinks were fantastic. We tried the Christmas-tini, the santagria and the spiked salted caramel eggnog. All were great, but I highly recommend the Christmas-tini. Mikayla recommend we try the burrata and it did not disappoint.
Amazing place for foodies. Claire was our server and kept us on track. We tried 12 dishes and 2 desserts! Insane. All were innovative and well prepared. Some were eye-openers such as the beef with a maple sauce. I'm not even crazy about maple. A wowie. The place was mobbed as it was the last night of restaurant week also it was Thursday so half price martinis. We were celebrating a birthday. Not a fan of those higher tables but there are lower choices so we settled in for a great night.
Food way amazing , only table going on that early, waitress less than attentive , lost extra cocktail, dessert and a much better tip
Good wine, even the ones unknown to me. I've never had a glass I didn't want. Pretty often it's pretty empty though.
Fun experience, food was good, price was a bit high, music was loud!! Overall, now that I know what to expect.... I would go here again.
Really good food. Good staff. Only drawback very noisy so don't go there if you want to talk.
Quality tapas. The grilled octopus and short rib were amazing. On the expensive side, especially for binghamton.
Very friendly staff. Food was AMAZING and delicious! Great place to host a party!
Chocolate cake is out of this world. Drink menu is lovely but everything seems very high in sugar
I'm a big tappas fan. You get to try lots of different items. 3 of us split cheese platter, steak skewers, bbq chicken flatbread, black angus meatballs and spaghetti, and the burrata. Waitress recommended two dishes per but it was too much food as it was. They have small and large plates with a pretty large menu so everyone can find something they like. Ambiance was ok, did not have a great table location. Server was courteous and new the menu. Overall a good stop when visiting Binghamton. It is right next door to a speak easy bar 205 dry. That looked like a fun place as well.
Visited during the restaurante week offer. Food was delicious. Atmosphere was nice, but very noisy. Couldn't hear what was said at across the table.
Very good. The beers on tap were excellent. We had the tuna tartar, sliders and arugula with burrata salad. All very good.
Beautiful waitresses. Excellent bar selection, and a calm relaxing friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend everyone to go for the food, great. ♚✌
The food is great and the drink selection is vast. I wish the space was a little bigger though. Parking on the weekend is a little scarce, FYI.
This place has superb atmosphere in a place where you wouldn't think that would be possible. If you're going out with your significant other this place is relaxed and non-kid friendly without being obnoxious about it. The app for ordering drinks is brilliant and whoever designed and built it deserves a marketing medal for doing an ordering app right. Good job folks!
Went with my girlfriend's family before dropping her off at Binghamton University. The food was really good with a good portion. We got those real high stool seats, wish we got normal table seats. The margaritas were a LITTLE pricey, but overall very good experience. OH ONE BAD THING. The coke and sprite tasted very watery, but other than that, good place.
Great atmosphere to hang out with friends. Really good drinks, they have some fun specialty drinks and my dirty martini was perfect. My friends and I liked the food, we enjoyed everything we ordered. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because my friend ordered a drink and it never came. We eventually just had them remove it from the bill.
Drinks are OK. Crowd is iffy depending on the time of year. The food is great but a little pricey. Bar staff could use some training on customer service. Had to wait for them to finish a conversation multiple times before getting served. The food staff are on par though.
Food was great, waiter was very fun. Our last experience here was horrible, they did redeem themselves with the food and timeliness of getting food out. However, it is extremely loud here. Barley can hear the person across from you.
I love the food and some of their drinks are good but the service is always bad. I'm willing to over look it but I shouldn't have to wait more than 15 minutes just for someone to come over and take our drink order. The staff needs to be trained better.
Was out for a friends birthday, ordered a rum and diet coke. The coke in my drink was flat. The bartender did offer to remake it.The place was beautiful.
Good experience but I had higher hopes for this place. Overall was not very impressed with this food nor cocktails but I suppose it’s a trendy place to dine at. Not saying I wouldn’t go back but I’d consider options especially given the price or if you have a bigger appetite.
A Friday night at 1030 pm, bar is near empty. Ok I like quiet, the bartender made sure my glass was, full good job. The kitchen staff although in the back might aswell have clocked out. When offered a dessert menu we ordered $20 worth of dessert. What a disappointment that was. Social tries to label themselves "extra" but time after time I'm greeted with lack of enthusiasm. This is a place I go, only when invited here because every visit (8 times and counting) is just "ok".
Nice atmosphere, and a good whiskey selection made it worth a visit. The food was a little hit or miss however. A few items we had were great, and a few not as good. The mussels I had were just ok, they just lacked a little something. We all enjoyed our time, but I left wishing for a little more.
My partner and I decided to try out Social on State last night for dinner while she was in the area. I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. The bar looked really organized and clean and it was quite nice. It was pretty full so I assumed it to be promising; thankfully we had made reservations. The hostess was friendly with us and so was our waitress. We ordered the bread & dips, mac and cheese, brussels sprouts and the spicy tuna tower. We also ordered a glass of chardonnay and a cocktail that was their version of a French 75. I want to say first and foremost that the food had potential. None of it was necessarily bad, but both my partner and myself agreed that it was just...lacking. The brussels sprouts were tasty and a pretty generous sized portion, but really could've used another competent...maybe a side of sauce--something creamy? There was a light sauce on them but it felt incomplete as a dish. The mac and cheese was alright, but lacked salt...maybe could benefit from something crispy atop as well. Overly rich, even for mac and cheese. The spicy tuna tower had only an accent of spicy sauce on the side of the tower itself...not really what I was expecting so that might be my bad, but I feel like it could've benefitted from additional sauce. We both remarked that the best food of the night was the bread & dips, but saying that felt kind of laughable. My girlfriend said the chardonnay didn't taste like much but my drink was maybe the worst cocktail I've ever had. It tasted like I had drank a spray of perfume. Our waitress had asked about it when she noticed I hadn't touched it and I had mentioned that it wasn't my favorite. She asked if we'd like to take it off the bill, which was considerate and I appreciate her having offered that. Really the reason that I write this review is because if you're going to be tacking such high costs on to the food that you're serving, it really needs to be top-shelf. All of these dishes felt as though they were still in their infancy, like the execution of them wasn't fully brought to fruition yet. Social on State unfortunately didn't meet our expectations.
Social on state is mainly a tapas style restaurant which is nice because there is nothing like it in the area. We enjoyed our food- we tried the clams, fried burrata, sticky chicken and the lobster sliders. The menu is definitely diverse so there are a lot of options. With that being said, the menu is VERY pricey. Cocktails are what you would pay in Manhattan. I don’t necessarily think the price was worth it even taking into account that food prices have gone up. They seemed short staffed and our drinks came out with the food. It is a good date night spot, however, not somewhere I would go with kids or for a casual meal.
Service was good.Food was pretty good but way too expensive.80 dollars for a party of two and we weren't really full when we left.
As it has a nice atmosphere, the food portions are ridiculous for the price. I ordered a plate that cost $16 and it was 4 scallops on a plate.
The establishment itself is looks tastefully put together and amazing. However, the food is over priced and the portions are small, although if you are into the "tapas" experience then this place should be right up your alley. But be warned, they have major issues and attitudes splitting a check for their paying patrons and the wait staff is not very good.
We made a reservation for 3 people and were told there was a small wait which was fine... it’s restaurant week, I understand. We go outside and to wait and we come back in maybe 5 minutes later and there’s a party of 3 ahead of us that were walk ins and got seated immediately. When we reached the host podium he looked at us like he had no clue who we were even after we told him we had a reservation and we had to wait again. Food was amazing but we will not be coming back.
Don't go during restaurant week. We were very disappointed about the limited menu. The salad and soup were excellent. The entrees were lacking, I got the meatball which essentially was a softball size breadcrumb encased with ground beef. It should be renamed the bread ball. Pork belly tacos had good flavor, but it was a small portion. Dessert was inedible. Very disappointed. The restaurant itself lacks character, like everything else in the area, but our server was very nice and attentive.
Poor service & extremely loud due to what seems like bad acoustics in general plus an overly cranked sound system. Unable to really converse with others in our dinner party A handful of beers on tap plus the regular stable of bottles. Our first visit and the 4 of us agreed that there was no reason to return.
Atmosphere was beautiful. Took a moment to be greeted (after they kept looking at me standing there). Older server lady was a bit snippy/sarcastic which I thought was unprofessional and made me uncomfortable. Service was a bit slow. The 6 other folks I brought with me shared it wouldn't be their first choice back.
Still waiting for them to honor a 50 dollar gift certificate I won during Robersons wine fest. Have sent them my address twice. Called Roberson 4 times and still nothing. Pretty sad. If you have no intention of honoring a donation don’t participate.
Mediocre food. Slow service. Fondue was basically butter and flour roux, shrimp tacos served on store bought flour tortillas, fries over seasoned, steak skewers lacking. Won’t be back!
Was there last weekend very disappointed with service and food quality but yet they where eager to charge u for extra dressing for yr salad $1.50 . Brough food out for one and Had to sit there to watch my friend eat while waiting for my food oh yeah the dog that was next to us got better service then I did he got his water right away. Never again will I go there.
Very poor service never even received our full order after waiting almost 2 hours Food was good when it arrived though. Also some arrived cold. It's rolling the dice going here beware. Music also randomly loud and quite
If I could give 0 stars I would. The wait staff is beyond rude almost like they are better than you. My husband and I had to wait about 20 minutes past our reservation to sit down, and then another 25 minutes before the waitress even came over to take our drink order. Food is WAY too expensive for what you get. I understand paying for quality, but I'm not sure that this is the case here. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. They are several places in the Southern Tier that are way better (both food and service) and this joint.
Made a reservation for 8pm, got there at 7:50 and didn’t end up being seated until almost 9pm. Once we were seated, we waited another 10 minutes until the waitress finally took our drink and appetizer order. That then took another 20 minutes to come out. She dropped it off at our table without saying a word then came back, I kid you not, 30 minutes later asking “did you guys want to order food?” No ma’am we’re just here to hangout, I mean cmon. We ended up leaving the restaurant at 10:15. Food was pretty good, not spectacular and it was very expensive. Hostess and waitress were both very rude in general. But the bartender was awesome and very attentive so the 1 star goes to him.
NIGHTMARE ON STATE ST Had a reservation at 715pm and when we arrived there was several open tables. Waited about 25 min before we got our first drink order. Ordered a martini up and a little dirty. Drink came with ice in it and half olive juice. Then when I asked why it was that way they got mad and asked if I want another. Got another and it was the same drink. FINALLY the bartender came over and slammed my drink down and ran away before I could say anything. Food was OK but waitresses were over worked. Ordered a tequila sunrise for my last drink and it was over 50% grenadine and I know I got a double but it was the worst $26 I ever spent.
I ordered a Cosmo and the server brought out some lime martini, did not smile the entire time and was completely rude. He laughed and smiled with the table of loud teenage girls they sat right behind us. The food was good. Service however was much better at other places we have been to while visiting. Will not be back. For the money you spend it's not worth it unless you can get a quality server.
