This has to be one of the best Italian restaurant meals I've had in the US or in Italy. The flavours for all the dishes we had were phenomenal. I had the Short Rib gnocchi to start followed by the Lobster Cavatelli. The husband had the beets to start and the Rigatoni with wild boar. The presentation was also excellent. I would have tried the desserts but unfortunately the husband had a dodgy stomach, nothing to do with the restaurant! Next time we're in Boston will have to come back here to try that out. We came very early on a Sunday evening so it was very quiet, though I suspect even when full it's not going to be too noisy in the restaurant. Nice staff and fast service. Reasonably priced for such excellent food. Highly recommended.
I can't say enough good things about this place. It is high-end, so it is pricier and the portions are smaller, but completly worth it. The scallops were cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth, the cocktails were well balanced, and the presentation was exquisite. One of my favorite parts of my meal was the Oysters. They put lemon flavored ice shavings on each one, no additional sauce necessary. Highly recommend people to try this place out for a special occasion.
Delicious food. On the pricier end but that's to be expected being right downtown. Service was fine, atmosphere was also nice. We came here because we were staying at the Marriott, which is a 2 minute walk. Overall it was a good experience.
This is a very nice restaurant with delicious food. Their upstairs dining area is great for a private function. The staff is friendly and attentive. It has a very traditional feel for a city restaurant.
A nice, tasty and classy experience with extremely nice wait staff. The homemade pasta was fantastic and when the wine we ordered ran out, the offered the next level up to us for the same price!
This is a great restaurant for date night, or gathering friends. Service was superb throughout, and the food on point. Lisa excelled in expertly juggling parties to accommodate all!!
I have been coming to Lucca for years and the food and service is consistently good! It's wonderful in the middle of winter!
Wonderful and authentic Italian cuisine.
Fabulous food. Very attentive wait staff. Accommodating for gluten free. I was part of a large party and my main meal did arrive rather cold and dried out stick was uncharacteristic of everything else.
It is a beautiful place, it is very complete. The food is very perfect, both in its preparation and taste. For more demanding palates is the accompaniment of wines. This place is also accompanied by a bar. And the work staff is full of experience.
Everything regarding our experience was perfect. Our waiter, George, was incredibly attentive and made excellent recommendations this being our very first visit to Lucca’s. If we could give a higher rating we definitely would.
I came here craving gnocchi and although I didn't find the gnocchi I was looking for, I had a good experience. So the gnocchi comes in an interesting mixture of flavors, which I really liked. It was my favorite. After that comes the twice fried wedges and the Tagliatelle.
We were in Boston for a week over Thanksgiving and had the intelligence to look on Yelp several times for various restaurants we were considering. Lucca Back Bay was absolutely a highlight of all of our dining experiences! The wine list was great and the food and service were excellent. Lucca was also within walking distance of our hotel, so that was very convenient. We travel to Boston quite a bit as we have family there, and definitely plan to make Lucca part of our next itinerary!
Excellent food, service and atmosphere! And their wine and cocktail list looked amazing. Next time ill uber there and enjoy some cocktails and wine with dinner. Thank you!
Executive Chef Anthony Mazzotta knows Italian! Not just the language - but the dishes he created at this Back Bay location are superb, and define the Italian heritage I grew up proudly sharing. His attention to detail starts with his selection of appetizers: calamari, salumi, formaggio and carpaccio begin the list, each arriving creatively assembled and artistically displayed. That's the attention to detail you can expect at Lucca's -- starting with the professionalism of the host staff that greeted us to the last detail observed by the excellent wait staff. The dinner entrees (about 10) is where Chef Anthony shines. He has assembled a variety of pasta, pork, veal, chicken, steak and seafood dishes for his menu, each paired with the right accompaniments to bring out flavors that are excellent. It's fitting that the wine list is well representative of the regions of Italy. The price points are good, with a good selection for every taste bud and connoisseur. We like to finish the evening in the lounge enjoying conversation with my favorite bartender -- friendly and knowledgeable Michael. Walk over -- no RUN -- to Lucca's in the Back Bay. Better yet, pick up your phone and make a reservation for this evening. I guarantee you'll like this experience. - John
One of the best meals I've ever had. I would go back weekly just to have the gnocchi, but everything was so delicious! We also had the scallops and the lobster linguine as entrees, but we were so busy talking about the appetizers that I forgot to take pictures. Just remembered to catch a shot of the semifreddo toward the end. Great service, even with a crowed room. Tables far enough apart for some privacy.
Came here for a late night meal after my flight. Not only was the food delicious but the service was impeccable. It blows my mind that for the price I paid for a delicious margherita pizza I was treated like a king. All of the employees are wonderful people and great at their jobs. One of the staff overheard my partner mention that his phone died and they provided us with a charger to use during our meal. Also the atmosphere here is amazing, just a beautifully decorated restaurant. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a late night option.
Went here for restaurant week, which was perfect because we got SUCH a good meal for such a great place. Impressive wine list is only overshadowed by their cocktail expertise. The food was amazing and the after dinner drinks were even better. Super high ceilings with some floor to ceiling murals make the room interesting and provide talking points for the quieter times during a date, but the not too loud, not too quiet atmosphere is perfect for that special occasion dinner as well.
Really good food and a great staff. Nice bar menu till 1 a.m (you can't miss those meatballs) and they serve alcohol till about 10 minutes of 2. If you're looking for a sports bar this isn't it. Unfortunately they have one very small TV way up high in the corner of the bar. Kind of hard to see if you're not sitting close to it. I guess they're not trying to be a sports bar.
Excellent service and extremely good food. The waiter was attentive, but was like a ghost (somehow my wine glass just kept getting refilled ;) ). It is pricey, but definitely would recommend for a special occasion/event.
Good atmosphere, dining room is large so you don't feel like you're on top of other parties. Food was amazing. Good variety to choose from and delicious. Wait staff was great
Lucca on Huntington Avenue rocks ! Went there as part of a Family Reunion Week at the end of June 2017. Service was over the top for our table of 20 guests ! Food was excellent ... my family thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. I recommend it highly ... ♡♡♡
Big shout out to our server Aggie! Thanks for the great service and help!! 10/10. Great drinks and food. Shoutout also to Casey the bartender for always making my friends and I laugh. Definitely a great spot for after work drinks.
Amazing fresh ingredients. We had a wonderful meal that the staff paired perfectly with wines. The chocolate and hazelnut dessert was so rich but to die for!
Great meal, some interesting preparation, tried the calamari app, it was great. Meal was very well prepared and presented. Nice wine list. Didn't have room for desert.
Good food, but really expensive
While it's not the most interesting room, decor-wise, we consistently get fine Northern Italian cuisine served with a warm professionalism that you won't find much in our own North End these days. We've been for late Sunday dinners in the convivial bar - their simple bar menu has some real gems like the crudo platters and the light-as-air gnocchi. A particular favorite for genuine hand-made pasta, I love the fact that their carbonara is a true version - served with an unbroken raw egg nestled on top.
We were quite pleased! We had 2 starters, 2 entrees, wines, and split a dessert. Everything was well-prepared, well-presented, and delicious. Service was the exact right touch, with the lone exception of not checking in after we started our entrees. Tables are amply-sized, well-spaced and they manage the acoustics really well. For all we ate, the total bill was really reasonable.
Wonderful food and staff, but lacking in atmosphere. I've been here twice and thoroughly enjoyed both visits. The food is Italian inspired and offers new and traditional dishes. The food is always outstanding and the sauces rich with flavor. The staff is friendly and helpful and helps give the restaurant an upscale flair. The restaurant is located on the first floor of an office building and enjoyed two story windows and huge ceilings but there's nothing creative about the space and lacks a bit of charm. If you're looking for an upscale Italian restaurant with fantastic food and service, I'd say go.
Great food late at night. We arrived at midnight and ate off the bar menu. Had a decent amount of choices but surprisingly no soup. Either way, the linguini with shrimp was excellent! I also love that they have different portions on the late menu since i dont like to go to bed on a stomach full of food. Friendly bartender that makes you feel right at home as soon as you arrive
Good food with excellent service. I ordered the filet. It had a good sear on the outside but almost too good, compromising the tenderness you'd expect from a nice filet. Overall the steak was good. The sauteed spinach was done really well and left me wishing for another plate. The portions are rather small but I still felt well fed I'm the end.
Went here with my company for a party of 7. The atmosphere was nice and cozy. There is a bar area and a coat check at the front of the restaurant. When seated, everyone in my party ordered drinks. It took a little while for us to get our appetizer orders in. When they came, the burrata and oysters were great! We also got the mussels, which were okay. We each ordered some pasta for the entrees. The one I got was with duck and super delicious although very oily/buttery. I had a taste of my friend's bolognese and that was also fantastic. For dessert, I had something with pistachios and banana which was pretty good. My only complaint about this place is that our waiter was a bit curt and presumptuous throughout the night. When everyone ordered drinks, I asked for a glass of wine and he literally wouldn't take my order in case the table ordered a bottle. Also, he wouldn't bring out bread for the table until we had placed our order. All in all, great food experience but the place seems to have a very specific idea of what dinner needs to look like that it's rather inflexible.
All the people working there are great, from the receptionists to the manager. Service is excellent. The lower room is a bit noisy, but manageable. The portions are generous. The meal was ok, not excellent but certainly not bad. I found the pork tenderloin to he tough and the linguini to be over sauced. Appetizers were better. Maybe I'm just picky.
Great atmosphere. The decor was very relaxing and the food . . . Ohhh the food was delicious even though it was a bit pricey. The waiter (Mark) was very pleasant but it seems like I had to tackle the bread boy who it seems like kept passing us by.
I tried chicken and my fiance tried salmon. They were very average for the price point and I got disappointed. I ordered chocolate dessert and it was not good.
Food was good, the service wasn't, I ordered a beer, they never delivered but for sure they tried to charge me at the end in my bill, the setting is dark from my taste, not a place to return.
Got there earlier than reservation time, so we waited at table in the bar area. For 25 minutes we waited for a server (I stopped one to ask if it was table service or if we should order drinks at the bar - she said she was our server and would be back with a cocktail menu). 5 minutes later she came back with one menu and never came back for our drink order. We got seated before she returned. Waiter was nice, although it took him 10 minutes to come to our table after being seated. We placed our entire order as soon as he arrived. The burrata was delicious. The filet, ordered medium rare, was oversalted and overcooked. The accompanying potato side was also over salted. Rigatoni was mediocre. The linguini with shrimp was good. Would not recommend or patronize again. Mediocre food and sub-par service.
Had dinner last night and 3 stars is pushing it. And only due to the excellent service. The food is marginal and overpriced. Salmon was overdone, pork chop was justsoso with beans and crispy critters. Won't be back.
Mediocre italian in Back Bay. Had the Cheese board appetizer and 3 Cheese ravioli entree. Both disappointed and were average. However had great service from our waiter.
Food was bland, waiter may have been new. Led to believe valet was free, it's not. $18. Great ambiance, great staff, except for our waiter. Caters to the BSO crowd, which is great. Just wasn't worth what we paid.
Maybe people have had better when they didn't go there when this restaurant doesn't offer prix fixe only (e.g. Valentine's Day). I was there for Valentine's Day where the only thing you can get is a 3-course prix fixe for $75 per person. Appetizers came out super quickly, and they were decent. It was when we had to wait about 30 minutes for our main menus to show up. I were seated at a corner of the second floor, and we were just not attended to. The food itself was pretty mediocre as well. Maybe you get what you pay for, or maybe the experience would've been different if it was on a normal day where one has more things to choose from.
Went there because the map says it's similar to Atlantic fish company. It is not. Far more expensive and worse food. Should be $$$$ instead of the $$ in the description. The food is ok, just not worthy the rating here. Convenient location.
Excellent service and food tastes great! However, Very small portions for the high price charged. That is what drives this 2 star rating. Will not go back.
Incredible ambience and outstanding service don't make up for the lackluster food, devoid of creativity and even worse, flavor. The most basic dishes from the limited menu were half hearted, sloppy affairs.
Went for snacks & drinks about 9 pm. Bartender very friendly, professional, entertaining and made good drinks with great fanfare. Meatballs were very good. However, do not order the Calamari. It was Terrible with a capital "T" ! A cold presentation, loaded with spicy peppers, which were cut and looked like calamari rings. Dim lighting, and I thought I was picking out calamari rings, only to find the vast majority were pepper rings. I think I had one, maybe two pieces of real calamari. Unfortunately, calamari is my go to dish for a snack with cocktails, thus, my experience here was very disappointing. If you want a dish of hot peppers, then order the calamari...............:-(
The food is okay, but the service was terrible. Who charges for refills on brewed Iced Tea! I eat out 300+ nights a year and I would not go out of my way for this place. There are so many other great Italian restaurants in Boston to visit.
Had a Halibut special with pepperata sauce, was too sweet, was like having jelly smeared over a piece of great fish. When i told the waiter that he had not told me it’s sweet, he did not even offer to fix something else for me- I paid $42.00 for this entree!!! What a waste!
Extremely bad experience today. We were so hungry so read the reviews n entered d restt after a full day of exploring Boston. We were waiting for10 min for bread which is usually served in Italian restt. Since we didn't see any sign of bread (the nearby tables were empty, so cudn't cpnfirm ) we ordered garlic bread with cheeze. We were so hungry, even to wait for entree that we ordered, hence we repeated the bread order. To which our server Mike said, are you sure you want another bread, we were wondering why is he asking, as we were going yo pay for it n it wasn't complimentary. Later we saw the other servers serving breads to the other table to new customers, so we asked why ddidn't he serve us to which he said, as we had ordered bread already ( but it was after waiting for 10 min) n he ddidn't want to spoil our entree experience, I dont think he has a right to think on our behalf. He should have atleast asked us. Plus we were 4 of us we had ordered drinks n food, not that we had come only for drinks. We all are still thinking is this any kind of discrimination? Secondly, one of us had ordered veg penne pasta with vegetables in white (alfredo)sauce , but we got spaghetti instead......so he changed it to penne but this time not in alfredo sauce but in garlic. We are very disappointed. This following thing is for all restaurants in US, why can't you have some decent dishes for vegetarian people, these days many of them must be visiting you, plus treat everybody equally, they pay for what they eat n plus tips for getting not so good service.so think about it.
very slow service. mediocre, overpriced food. went with colleagues and waited over an hour for food. No apologies or comps. Rice was completely undercooked... not al dente... raw. Scallops were only OK with some major chunks of grit.
Lucca was highly recommended by Marriott Copley Place. We were greeted warmly at the hostess station and seated immediately. I asked the hostess for a children’s menu and if she had a Gluten Free Menu. She nicely brought the children’s menu as well as the bar menu for my 12 year old to pick from and explained my waiter would help make recommendations/substitutions for entrees for me to eat. The waiter came took drink order and left. When he returned he just rattled off the special of the day, which he made no eye contact just looked around and we couldn’t hear him and than he went right to taking our order. I asked a few questions about gluten free alternatives to some dishes and he didn’t offer much help and literally there was dead silence.. my husband and daughter had alreadly ordered or I would have left at this point because he was literally staring off waiting for me to choose my entree but not offering any help. The hostess came by quickly asking how everything was but before I could answer left. Food came we ate. Paid bill. Told hostess about experience.. nothing done.. went out to dessert somewhere else. Highly disappointed and never experienced this lackluster customer service before. I am a strong on customer service having been a manager for many years. They are the face of the business, I will be writing online reviews on my negative experience and also the fact no one even attempted to try and fix anything!
