Tip: La veranda è perfetta e fresca d'estate.

Ci torneremo senz'altro
Grigliata favolosa ambiente familiare con servizio ottimo e simpatico, complimenti a tutti.
Having walked up from the Castle to La Maddalena, we stop here for a refreshing lunch. Even though it's June, the day is cool. In the very cozy restaurant, there's a fire burning, and we immediately feel at ease. We try the tagliatelle with mushrooms and the casoncelli with herbs: excellent! We decide to try the potatoes fried in their skins, which are truly excellent. Both the salami and the melted cheese are delicious. The homemade desserts... We try the peach jam tart, which is excellent. A hearty lunch topped with the house wine and the kindness of the staff. Then, a fair bill that confirms it deserves its 5-star rating and another visit!
Top I'm a vegetarian, and today, Easter Sunday, I had a family lunch. I ate without hesitation because there's plenty to choose from. I'd even go so far as to say it's also suitable for vegans, even though they're heavy on meat! The staff deserves all the praise. Competitive prices. Parking is a bit of a hassle, but we'll find a solution!
A typical restaurant unlike any other. A close-knit family cooks and serves traditional Brescian dishes using the freshest ingredients. Don't miss the casoncelli, gnocchi, and tagliatelle... the latter superb with mushrooms. The grilled meat is a must: here, Melo prepares the finest local meats to perfection. The chicken, horse meat, and salami are extraordinary. The fried potatoes are a sight to behold. The homemade desserts are a must. What else? Come back! It's also a wonderful walk from the city center.

Fantastic Casoncello with Zucca and Salami Grill
Nice place!
Quick lunch without reservation, sandwich with salami and chips, fast service and more than decent lunch at a normal price, I will return to try the cuisine
A very rustic place, similar to a mountain hut...even though it's in the municipality of Brescia, it feels like you're in the mountains, in the forest.... Simple but good food... rustic decor, like a home tavern where dad puts the food on the grill.... Overall, I would go back....
Discovering that you can reserve a skewer for Sunday lunch during the winter was great news! Especially after enjoying a generous portion and declaring it one of the best skewers I've ever eaten (a real winner!). The meat melts in your mouth, only the chicken is a little less "smooth"; being a very lean meat, it suffers from the slow, lengthy cooking typical of a skewer, but washed down with the spectacular oil that accompanies the dish, it easily makes up for it. As usual, the price is very fair and everyone is satisfied. Book, you won't be disappointed.

Remembering a lovely lunch a couple of years ago, I decided to return to my family to celebrate my parents' anniversary, but unfortunately, my expectations were greatly disappointed. At a place famous for its grilled meat, I ate a meat so dry that it makes you wonder if it was cooked at 10 in the morning and then reheated, or if it's actually from the previous day! (Especially when half an hour later we see meat arriving at the next table that looks very different!). The first courses were good, the appetizers were good, but the quantity and price could be reconsidered (also because when you bring them all together, I feel like the portions tend to be under-measured). Flies in the vinegar bottle are a common occurrence, but that doesn't mean a quick glance before serving isn't worth it. The house wine started off as a warm, sparkling red, then switched to a chilled still red for the second order (the sparkling one, at best, should be served chilled to allow for drinking!) On the table were two menus with old and new prices, which made it clear how quickly the bill had skyrocketed! I've certainly had worse, but for what we paid, higher quality wouldn't hurt. Unfortunately, it's not the restaurant famous for its grilled meats it once was! What a shame!
You don't pay cheaply for bad food. Il Grillo isn't what it used to be. I hope the owners read this review so they can improve the situation. I must say that the location remains very beautiful, and the service was courteous and attentive—no complaints there. The real problem lies in the sourcing of ingredients and the cuisine, which used to be much more refined and of superior quality. I should start by saying that we were given a menu card, but in reality they only had a quarter of the dishes listed available—so be patient, it happens. The tagliatelle with mushrooms (€9): unfortunately, a very disappointing dish. The mushrooms used seemed like the industrial ones from a bag, completely flavorless and more suited to a frozen pizza than a pasta dish. The pasta was bland and devoid of character, without even a hint of parsley or aromatic herbs to liven it up. The price is definitely disproportionate to the quality offered. The tagliata (€40/kg): here the situation became truly worrying. The meat had an unmistakable acidic flavor and a suspicious odor, masked by spices that failed to mask obvious freshness issues. Had the health inspections arrived, the restaurant would have been in serious trouble. We left everything else behind after the terrible tasting. When they asked us at the end of the meal if everything was okay, we politely replied that we were full and even asked to take away the leftovers. It was a very embarrassing situation: it was clear that something was wrong, yet the dish was served to us, without scruples. The salami: mediocre, perhaps acceptable for a country fair sandwich, but certainly not for a restaurant. The melted cheese was average. Coffee, bitters, and dessert rounded out a lunch that cost a whopping €36 per person. A real shame, considering the expectations and, above all, the fond memories of when this place truly knew how to delight its guests. I sincerely hope they can return to their former level, because the facility and staff are there—all that's missing is quality in the kitchen and the selection of ingredients. In short, Il Grillo today represents a missed opportunity. Despite the undeniable beauty of the location and the professionalism of the service, the dining experience was deeply disappointing and, in some cases, worrying from a food safety perspective. The quality-price ratio is unacceptable: €33 per person for a meal of this caliber is frankly too much. The nostalgia for what this restaurant once was makes the comparison with the current reality even more bitter. It's clear that the management has lost sight of the importance of quality ingredients and attentiveness in the kitchen, fundamental elements that cannot be compensated for even by the most courteous service. I cannot recommend Il Grillo in its current form, at least until it seriously invests in the quality of its food offerings. Those seeking a satisfying dining experience would be better off looking elsewhere, at least for now.
I'll start by saying I'm sorry to leave a bad review, because the place would be really nice if it were taken care of in a certain way. It has a nice atmosphere, it's cool, and it's perfect for escaping the city heat! But everything is very poorly maintained: from the lack of cleanliness, especially in the bathroom, to the care taken over the outdoor veranda, it's a shame! The food isn't great, the meat in particular seems frozen... They should also focus more on the appetizers, which are paltry and poorly prepared... the waiters are like dockworkers, both in the way they THROW the dishes onto the table and in the way they spoke and approached the customers... THIS RESTAURANT COULD EASILY GO TO NIGHTMARE KITCHEN 😅
