We had lunch at the Lodge. So many food options for a Vegan(which is difficult to find here)! The view was breathtaking and the atmosphere was relaxed and perfect. After lunch, we did a quick hike to the Window viewing area, which was easy and so beautiful. Can't wait to come back and hike the entire window trail!
Restaurant opens for dinner at 4:30. We had to wait for a little bit. Views of the mountains are very nice. We had the barbecue plate with sausage and pulled pork plus the bacon wrapped fillet mignon with mashed potatoes and veggies. Sopapillas with ice cream for dessert. Everything tasted good and the service was fast and server was very nice.
So our server Shannon made the visit amazing! She was so attentive and sweet. Just her hospitality will have me come back. The view is amazing and the food was pretty darn good. We got the bacon chicken sandwich and the poblano soup. Had to get an extra order of French fries too because they were delicious. Will come back because of our great server which is hard to find in a national park.
If you are planning on viewing the Window sunset, it would behoove you to eat dinner here, or at least grab a drink. Great view, an excellent reprieve from the desert heat, and the menu is robust (while perhaps a touch expensive, but we are in the desert). They also have a variety of themed cocktails, of which I got the one themed after The Window. And the gift shop right next to it is fantastic. Great selection.
Stopped in for an early dinner right at their dinner start time. Seated right away and server was attentive. I had the burger and cup of chili to start. I also had their Window cocktail. The drink was delicious and just what I needed after a day of exploring. The chili was flavorful. The "just a burger" was exactly that and tasted pre-made. The veggies on it were fresh but the patty was lacking. I would not get it again. The view is what you are going for and did not disappoint. Note that at certain times you may have the sun directly on you and they did not lower any shades - which was fine for me but just know that going in. Reasonably priced, I would definitely go back but try a different entree.
We stayed at the lodge and ate breakfast three days, dinner twice. The service people are extremely nice and very helpful. The menu is pretty limited, but the food was good. We tried the mesquite chicken and squash ravioli. The lodge and restaurant are a bit dated, I think they are going to be demolished in a year or so and rebuilt. A good use my tax dollars so many more can come and enjoy this beautiful place.
I was here for 3 days I ate dinner everyday. Twice I got the chicken sandwich and I got the burger once. Both are great and taste really good. Here’s the thing though. The chicken sandwich as a greater overall value to it. The one I got during a Thursday night came with avocado, cheese and bacon at no extra cost, which was 13$. The burger doesn’t come with those ingredients, but you have to add them at extra cost as seen in the photo. Now I don’t know why that is, that’s just the way they have it. The burger is 13$, adding bacon and cheese brought it up to 18$. So that’s why I say the chicken sandwiches have greater value for the price you pay.
Went here for dinner after hiking the window trail. Immediately it had a positive energy from everyone who came from enjoying the park. The food was good even though it was a little pricey for what it was, but that is to be expected. The views were absolutely beautiful. We could watch the sunset over the mountains. The only thing that could have been better was the service. The whole meal out waiter spoke only to me and completely ignored my boyfriend. From forgetting his order in the beginning through the end of our meal, he only looked or talked TO me and ABOUT him. It was subtle but it was enough to be rude and a bit uncomfortable. It made us feel unwelcome in what should have been a lovely environment.
I have eaten at a lot of national parks, and I thought the Lodge restaurant here was above average. I got chili, and a side salad with grilled chicken. The chili was tasty, with just a tiny bit of kick, and the salad was really good. Everything was fresh and well seasoned. My server was also friendly and very efficient. And honestly, you could feed me almost anything with that amazing view, and I would love it. So the fact that the food was pretty good was a bonus.
the scenery in and around the restaurant is 2nd to none. The service was ok. Poor guy had to keep apologizing for the menu. Then we got the food and it was barely ok. Like something you'd get at a high-school basketball game. I did like the Mac and cheese.
Great atmosphere, hospital quality food. While the views were great, the food wasn’t (with exception for the soup). The hummus wrap and hamburger weren’t the post hike pick-me-ups we had hoped for. Our sweet waiter also had forgotten to put in our order so we waited for a long time. She apologized and gave us a discount for the error. No foul to her, things happen and I know she was busy. But after waiting even longer and very hungry from a long hike, the food was such a bummer.
It’s not bad for being in the middle of nowhere and it’s your only restaurant choice in Big Bend Park. They are only open for dinner from 5pm to 9pm. Breakfast and lunch hours are different, so check their website. Only nine entrees on the menu and most of them seem like Sysco frozen foods. I don’t want to knock them too much, because as I said, you really have no other choices - they also have a full bar. Marinated portabella mushroom ($18.95) topped with bell peppers, spinach, and parmesan cheese. Wild rice and asparagus on the side. The grilled mushroom cap was fresh, extremely juicy and went well with the combination of the spinach and chopped bell peppers. The asparagus was tender and perfectly cooked without being too mushy. The 12 oz ribeye ($21.95) was more of a let down. Just not a good quality cut of meat. Yes, I know ribeye is supposed to be marbled and a bit fatty (that’s what give it the great flavor after all), but this one had more grisle than fat or marbling. It was served with a scoop of mashed taters and asparagus. Mashed taters are just “ok.” Not bad mind you, just “ok.” Penne pasta with alfredo sauce ($11.95) and added portabella mushrooms for an extra $5. The portabella ‘shrooms were marinated just like they were in the portabella mushroom entree mentioned above. The menu said the pasta was linguini, but it was penne pasta instead, so ask before ordering. Chicken Fried Steak with green beans, toast, and a dollop of mashed taters. ($12.95) CFS was good, not overly breaded, and not full of gristle - but it was obviously pre-prepared. Gravy was decent and so were the green beans. Again, the mashed taters were just “ok.” The dining area is mostly glass and it faces directly west, so it gets pretty warm when the sun starts going down - BUT it provides an awesome view of “The Window” trail and you can see the sun set. The bar area is separate and it’s a lot cooler in there, so you might want to see if you can dine in the bar area to stay cooler. There are a couple of tables in there, so who knows? The bottom line is, although it's not the best food in the world, you should at least have one meal while here, to give yourself a break from campground or hotel room food.
Scam Alert 🚨: We had lunch and spent $54. Gave a tip and the total was $59. We came home after the trip and the bank statement says they charged us $67. Looks like they do this trick hoping nobody will notice this !!! What the hell !!! Total scam I would say. Just be careful with your wallet. However nice little restaurant. Not mane veggie options. Clean place and a friendly one too. Messed up my order with the fries and chips. Bathroom is clean but stinks. You have to go through a gift shop for the restaurant.
