Spacious rooms, more like a little apartment than a hotel room. Super comfy bed with plenty of throw blankets and a porch with bench for enjoying the stars. Easy access to Big Bend. On site is a bar and grill.

Great hotel with a bar&restaurant. Look no further if you want to experience something else than the boring chain hotels. The room was clean and it had some pretty Western decor and furniture. They had live music on Christmas day and the food was good. Great service at the bar too!

Amazing spot, nothing more you can wish for. Beautiful and better than a movie

Was this motel painfully expensive from the aesthetics? Yes. Was our room ready for check-in at 3:00? No. Things were a little disorganized, but so is Terlingua (just accept it as charm). With that said….The room was extremely clean, the people were very nice, and when my wife left behind her very favorite earrings on the nightstand- the bartender/“girl at the front desk” at the High Sierra bar got them for her and put them in the mail. For one or two nights, this place will fit the bill. It’s in the middle nowhere, but in the middle of everything and that’s why you are there. Friendliness and honesty go a long way, five stars from our family!

I've stayed here several times. I keep seeing improvements.

Newly remodeled rooms. They have a southern Texas feel. I loved the fact that they have a wonderful bar and grill at the same location. After a long hot day at Big Bend National Park. It was so nice to have a bar and grill right next to my hotel room.

What an unexpected awesome place to stay! Perfect location between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. All the staff were very cordial and restaurant was great! Would stay again.

Super nice staff!! Rooms have been updated/renovated. Dogs/pets are welcome. You can even bring your dog with you to eat at the attached High Sierra Bar and Grill. Which has some of the best Pomegranate Margaritas I have ever had!! All the staff members are really nice. The location close to the Terlingua Ghost Town, and if you don't get to stay at the hotel due to no vacancy there is a wonderful little RV Park just a mile away.

We loved our stay at El Dorado Hotel! We wanted to stay in Terlingua for our short visit to Big Bend, and before we left to go back home we were already talking about booking another stay! We stayed in one of the renovated rooms and it was excellent - clean, updated, with great AC and a view of the stars that can't be beat. Staff was incredibly helpful and kind, especially the folks at the bar and our housekeeper Avery. The food and vibes were great next door at High Sierra, and the hotel was close enough to other restaurants to get a good opportunity to try all of the other food in the area (highly recommend breakfast at Venga). Not having a TV didn't bother us since that's not what we were there to do, and the wifi was strong for us so we never felt too far from the rest of the world. The drive to Big Bend was easy, and coming back to El Dorado was comfortable and convenient - we can't wait to return!

Extra nice people, Treated our dog so well. comfortable room. I was visiting my land, lost track of time and ended up needing a last minute room because the drive home in the dark with them giant porcupines out there is a no go 😅 They went out of their way to accommodate.

El Dorado Hotel in Terlingua is a fabulous place to stay in a great West Texas town! The staff couldn't be more accommodating, check in was a breeze and they make sure they're easy to reach for anything you need. Rooms are spacious, authentic and very comfortable. Right in the middle of Ghost Town, you can easily walk to any of the local bars, restaurants or galleries. From their parking lot it's a short drive into Big Bend NP AND the Big Bend Ranch St Park, it really a perfect location - definitely check them out!

Thank goodness we found Venga! Everything was fabulous! We ate here twice during a short stay while visiting Big Bend National Park. The place is so cool and welcoming. We ordered pancakes and omelets, but the real star was the avocado toast — amazing. The coffee was delicious, the service impeccable, and the prices very reasonable. Easily one of the coolest places I’ve been!

Very nice place near big bend Park. We were glamping in tipis near by and the food here helped us fuel up for the day. There were not many options, at least for vegetarians. But few options available were good. The kids liked the pancakes and avacado toast. Rest rooms are clean and parking is plenty. They are closed early in the day so plan accordingly.

I really enjoyed Venga! The art, plants, and furniture were perfect and gave the whole place a relaxed “Terlingua” feel. We stopped in for a late lunch before checking into The Summit and I had the vegetarian tostadas and key lime pie—both were delicious. I even grabbed a fun shirt. The server was very friendly, the views were beautiful, and you’ve got to love a restaurant with a dog peacefully asleep on the sidewalk out front. This is definitely a place I would return to!

A must-stop in Terlingua for truly fresh coffee, tasty food, and a calm place to relax. There is colorful art all around the place, reliable internet, and beautiful views! They also carry camping supplies, plus books and handmade crafts from local artists. We tried the salmon Florentino and it was delicious.

Food with a surprise! Similar to driving down Ranch Rd 170 to top a hill to another rock structure that surprises you! This place nestled in Terlingua, surprised us with its artistic vibes, walls of textures that provided a pleasant and cozy atmosphere for all! Industrial meets arts of social comfort! The many textures welcoming many kinds to just sit and take in the vibes! Everything in it could be bought. Beautiful art, plants, cactus containers, outdoor gear, souvenirs and more! All staff were nice, food was amazing and the owners were quite friendly! Don’t miss this place, you will be missing a part of culture that just hits perfectly!

Great food, cool store/cafe in terlingua for anyone looking for a nice breakfast or coffee! Beware there is no espresso! Otherwise this place is great for some views and very close to a lot of the campsites around town

This place is so pretty with all of the art and mirrors covering the walls. The food was really good. I love the plants they have placed around the restaurant. I had the Cat and Cass tostados and the coffee was delicious! I've visited here twice on our trip so far. Hope to go back for coffee and a plant. They have great stickers, magnets, clothes and other items to purchase. The outdoor seating area is so pretty!

It’s hard to believe this place is in a ghost town. The brunch is excellent. The items they sell are high quality and reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is incredible. I’d definitely love to come back.

Modern Gem in Ghost-town!!! Sooooooo good!!! I was between two cafes. I drove by and saw an EMS truck, which means it has to be good. Local first responders know. Delicious coffee with healthy add in options. I enjoyed the breakfast burrito with bacon which was just right before heading north. Staff were very friendly, and I was honored to meet the owner. Funindoor and outdoor dining vibe with contemporary art, gear, and snacks available for purchase. Job well done creating Venga!

Came here for breakfast. Not too crowded right when they opened at 8am. The food I ordered came out in around 10 minutes. The eggs benedict were nicely cooked and delicious. I also got their muffin to-go, which I had it during my hike to the Lost Mine Peak.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Ruben sandwich with FF. Friendly and quick service at 10:45 a.m. This is a laid-back atmosphere has indoor and outdoor dining, as well as cushioned seating areas that offer views of the outdoors. The place is decorated with a variety of art pieces, most of which are for sale. From what I recall, all of the furnishings are custom built with reclaimed wood, slabs, and metal fabrication. Jeff and his team have nailed it!

Wonderful building, atmosphere, service and food! Meeting friends on a Thursday morning at 10 am it was easy parking and slightly busy with continual customers. This unique place has choices of both indoor and outdoor seating in a variety of settings and is beautifully and a bit quirkily layed out and decorated. Besides being a yummy restaurant available for breakfast and lunch (menu served for both during opening hours) it's a shop with tourist and artist items. Our 4 friends had breakfasts that they said were great. My husband and I both had Ruben Sandwiches, his with dressed up regular fries and mine with sweet potato waffle fries. I had to compliment the chef! You order at the counter and they call your name when it's ready and were very quick about it. Prices were reasonable. Lovely place we intend to visit again when in West Texas!

Order the steak fajita burrito with rice and beans. A little pricey at $17, but well worth it. The burrito was huge and the fajita meat was very tender. Delicious! Place was very clean and quiet (but I did go on a Monday at 2pm).

Another culinary delight in Terlingua! I ordered the chips with guacamole and the fajitas for two and it was delicious. The laid back vibe and being able to lounge and enjoy a cup of coffee with a good book made my day. Excellent!

Stopped by Venga Café in Terlingua for breakfast before heading into Big Bend, and it totally blew me away. From the outside, it looks like a quiet little café—but once inside, I was surprised by the incredible interior. It’s filled with colorful local art, creative decor, and even a small gift shop with unique finds. The food and coffee were great, but it’s the vibe that really made it special. It feels like a mix between a café, gallery, and community hangout. Highly recommend stopping here—it’s a must-visit spot if you’re passing through West Texas.

We visited Big Bend for a workshop, and Venga quickly became our regular spot for editing sessions, relaxing, and grabbing some food. It’s a huge restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating, plus some cool art, shirts, and camping gear for sale. The food here is amazing — I’m not kidding when I say I had their smashburger 4 out of the 5 days I stayed. It was absolutely delicious and a must-try! They also have desserts, drinks, and a lot of other great food options. The customer service here is top-notch — everyone was super friendly and helpful. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m at Big Bend. Highly recommend if you’re anywhere near Terlingua!

New coffee place in town. Impossible to resist and check it out. It’s open from 7 am till 5 pm. The building has a modern look, and has a pretty good capacity. Also offers outdoor seating. I ordered a hot cocoa was handed a “pouch” to mix with hot water. The cool thing about this place is the atmosphere, that why I’m rating a 5. The decor is cool, and there are art pieces for sale everywhere you look. I also liked the clothing they had for sale. I ended up with only one T shirt but not sure if I won’t be back for more. We came back in the morning to check out the food. Egg Benedict was delicious and the Ethiopian black coffee was great! They had a sign saying free mimosas on Saturdays and Sundays… my Fiancee had one and said that was good!

I stayed overnight here while visiting Big Bend National Park on a cross country road trip. The selection of lodging in terlingua is somewhat limited. I selected this place based on reviews. Considering the remote location, I gave it an extra star. The bar and grill looks like a lively place. I didn't eat there however since I wanted to eat at another location here in town. There was live music last night, which I suspect is pretty common here. They're putting a lot of work into this place. The room that I had had a leak under the sink. Some of the rooms are being completely renovated and it's obvious that they're putting new furniture in. The parking lot is paved and in good condition.

A nice stop after driving all day. We booked online but did not get our room code in email. Went to the restaurant and the young lady fixed us right up. The rooms are adequate: bed, air conditioning, clean water. The wife loved the big bathtub. A bit pricey maybe but location, location. If we cared that much about a room we would have stayed at the Hampton in Alpine eighty miles away. But we spent the night here and now ready to explore. We ordered from the restaurant and we both thought the food was great. We got the fajita plates and ate in our balcony watching the sun go down. Oh, and don’t forget to turn your water heater on when you get there. WiFi worked for the phones but not the computer - go figure. So we hotspotted the phones.

We really liked staying here. The proximity to Big Bend Park was about 15 minutes, great for us! The food at the grill on site was tasty. We enjoyed the music and the sunsets could not be beat. The staff seemed to get along well as well as they were very attentive and personable. Tamara was very helpful with local suggestions as far as food, etc. We could tell new owners were putting effort to make improvements on the property. This area is quite remote, so getting a place to stay that was clean and bug free was a plus. There was no TV, but we did have WIFI. We went to Big Bend to hike and enjoy nature, not to hang out in the hotel. We were not looking for a pool, weight room, etc. We live pretty far away, but would certainty recommend this place to our friends. Thanks again for an enjoyable stay! Tina Russ

The hotel is being renovated, and I'd have given 5 stars if we got one of the refurbished rooms. The owners are clearly dedicated and working hard to get things updated. Our (unrenovated) room was not bad - clean, good beds, huge shower with good hot water, quiet, nice furnishings, good A/C. But, it was a little worn-looking, and it smelled strongly of stale cigarette smoke. Hopefully, these negatives will be remedied when the room gets redone. The parking lot is large and well-paved, and the restaurant has a wonderful patio, where we had a delicious dinner, ice cream, and lingered over a couple of beers. The service was friendly and quick, vibe is relaxed. And last, but not least, Cheryl in the office is just wonderful. I would definitely stay here again.

M
Marc Vásquez

Booked this room last minute since we cut our camping trip short one night. Shamayla (phone contact) was very accommodating in a quick amount of time. She walked us to the room and gave us the rundown of places to check out in the area. Made us feel really welcome! The rooms are great and had hot water and good WiFi; felt very safe at night sitting on the porch looking up at the stars. I highly recommend staying here if you’re in town.

David Corney

Stayed in an updated room, April 2024. The room is way better then the unrenovated one we stayed in previously. The room was adequate, but (very much) in need of updating. The food in the restaurant was very good. Location is excellent for the rest of town and Big Bend parks. I recommend this place, with reservations. It appears the new owners are investing in room renovations, which is well overdue and welcome. You cannot charge $200+ per night and give people rooms that are in poor condition. Shabby furniture, baths that have the tile falling off, and shower stalls that are well past their sell by date, are some of my observations. The days of 'it is is an isolated location' excuse are fast running out. This is a ghost town with fiber optic internet connectivity. I wish the new owners every success in this venture.

After reading the negative reviews, I think it's hilarious what some people expect and complain about from a hotel, in the middle of a desolate desert setting, in a "Ghost Town" at that!! With literally a population of less than 400. If you're expecting a level of a Marriott in Terlingua, you should probably stay in the city, so you can find your Starbucks in the morning! This place was the bare basics but it was awesome!! It's perfect for an off grid adventure with no frills that everyone has grown so accustomed to, in modern society. It is pricey but then again it's located in an area with limited everything!! And lots of tourist, who are willing to pay, just to have someplace to sleep close to the amazing park close by. It's perfect if you're looking to get away from modern life and enjoy the beauty the area has to offer. It truly is refreshing for the soul to be someplace that hasn't bought in to modern day materialism. They had some awesome folk band play outside at the restaurant which is part of the hotel. Definitely overall a great experience. Don't try to Dallas one of the only areas where one can be off grid in Texas!! Some people come here to be away from the people who expect that!!

David Peterson

We stayed two nights here. We had a difficult time finding it. When we booked our reservation the place was identified as the Ghost Town Hotel. The address is shown as 100 Ghost Town Road. That is the address for High Sierra Restaurant and Bar which is next door. The hotel is identified as the El Dorado and shares a sign and address with the restaurant. The hotel has no office and you need to check in at the restaurant. There are no street signs. All the other businesses on this street are addressed as Ivey Road, not Ghost Town Road. Who knows what is correct. The manager is delightful and was very helpful once we got to the right place. We stayed in Room 7. The room was clean and nicely decorated with a southwest theme. The room was in good condition and everything worked well. The room had a mini fridge, no microwave and no television. The location is great for visiting Big Bend National Park. We paid $140 a night which I thought was a bit high considering no, breakfast, no television and no microwave. There is Wi-Fi that works fairly well. There aren’t enough outlets to charge devices and no USB ports.

E
Eric Teddy

Nothing fancy but it’s clean and it felt safe. Not sure the 180 is a fair price for the room condition, but for the area it’s comparable to other establishments. They stated that they are updating all the rooms then they will go for over 300 a night. I would stay again as the staff was nice and they stocked our room with towels daily and took the trash out.

Came to eat here while on vacation from Houston. I ordered the teriyaki chicken bowl and it was ok. Chicken was good, but the edamame was hard and the rice seemed like it could have been that instant, ready rice. Was a bit bland even with the sauce given, so I added jalapeño hot sauce. The lady that attended us at the register was very nice.
