Mamajuana Cafe The Bronx offers a lively atmosphere with music and a generally positive experience. Many reviewers praise the food, especially the paella, chuletas, and appetizers. Some negative reviews mention slow service, loud music, and occasional inconsistencies in food quality.
Tip: Make a reservation, especially if going during peak hours, as it can get very busy. Be aware that the music can be loud, so it's not ideal for a quiet, intimate dinner.

Because we went early there is no wait but I do suggest that you schedule a reservation as this is a very busy place. Also it is a little bit loud inside due to the amazing music and great DJ so I would not suggest as a place if you are looking for a quiet restaurant vibe. This is more for you and your friends to hang out, drink, and dance. The Sunday brunch is great. It's a out $50- $70 spending wise. Definitely more on a Saturday. The staff is so pleasant and attentive. Everything is clean as well. This may be the 1st time I didnt ask for a cup of hot water for utensils
The atmosphere is very nice the food was absolutely delicious the only issue that we had was a language barrier with the wait staff other than that. The experience was definitely worth it. I would return for another visit there are items on the menu that Im interested in tasting.
Perfect happy hour / dinner spot near The Met Cloisters. I got a frozen piña colada and paella. They were delicious, the amount of paella could probably feed 4 people! I was super hungry, ate about 1/3 and took the rest to go. I sat at the bar so my service was speedy. A music was blasting but i did not mind it. Place has different offers including unlimited dining experience, i would probably be a regular if i lived nearby! Very affordable. Ps. That day they had a cerveza República promotion from Dominican republic, there were a lot of people and a very fun atmosphere
What an Amazing place for a Sunday Brunch! The atmosphere was amazing and filled with of life. I had avocado toast and the steak and eggs. They have unlimited mimosas and sangria
Very clean food and presention was amazing food taste great drinks was on point all staff was very nice and waiter was attentive all around great experience. It was not packed when I went because I was there at 530pm place starts getting packed from 630pm on
Brunch Latino style! Good service, good food, great price.
My first ever time being here and it was a fantastic experience. The chicken chunks, the chuletas we're so juicy, and my girlfriend couldn't get enough of her food either; the atmosphere was a 10. The music selection was not too loud and kept the experience pleasant, I greatly appreciated the service. I will be returning 💜
First time here and I really liked it. The mussels appetizer was really good. We ordered the Paella and it was enough for 2,and really good. Good drinks I would definitely go back.
Make reservations!!!! Sometimes they don't take walk ins. The Back is nicer then I thought. Drink are good, food is good, hookah is not back even tho they only had one flavor (Mint) Bill wasn't bad. Definitely not a bad place to go.

I've been here over the years for brunch, lunch and after parties ..... I've never had a bad experience! Great time always!
This was my first time at this restaurant. The room was spacious and colorful with large photos on the wall. They also had a space for outside dining as well. The drinks were very good,as were the wing appetizers. My friend , who was celebrating a birthday had dinner and enjoyed it. The wait staff was friendly and service was prompt. I look forward to returning.
We went to celebrate my daughter birthday and we had a great time. The food was soooo good. The service is amazing. 💯 recommended 👌
New Saturday Brunch situation is Litt! Stop by and see for yourself. Live Dj and great Food!! Vibe is all the Way Up!
Place was great!! As soon as we walked we were greeted right away and sat in our seats. Food was amazing as well and our server was always around when we needed her
I celebrated my birthday here yesterday 09/25/2020 and I had an amazing time. The waitress Rosanna was so attentive polite she was all positive vibes. The manager and women from the front made sure my party was celebrated and that we had everything we needed. Now the food omg was the best food I've had in a while at a restaurant. Me and my family will be returning. I had the best birthday celebration here.
Daniel the bartender wow the best great drinks awesome personality... Anthony our server was amazing food was so good the place the staff the food 10 out of 10
Great place with out the over crowding. Bottle service got $125 Henny & Goose. Good guy to girl ratio. Little too much with the TSA like security but you feel safe. So thats a good thing. Dj also was very good forgot his name but he played all the good music even spanish music for a while
Mamajuanas is the VIBE The food is good not perfect but good I have been coming here for years Love, always love the vibes they give and as always the manager accommodating extra ppl it is not the first time , we make reservations and someone is added last minute usually places will turn you away but they never do here If ya want the VIBES definitely is the place for it ! Food drinks unlimited mimosas and music Only thing is I can say maybe the dj could play a little more enough like R&b rap and reggae the music is more of Spanish but again still a vibe !! As always I will definitely be coming back and so will my family !
Brunch is spectacular! Entering is very well organized. The brunch is by reservation only, and you will not be seated until your entire party is there. Keep it tight because you will not wait inside for the rest of your party to arrive. It can get a little crazy inside so they take everybody's ID. They have a machine that scans it and determines whether it's real or not! They delete all of the information as long as you don't start some 💩. The food is delicious, the entertainment is off the hook, the sangria is some of the best, and it's free-flowing. I also can't say enough about the service. Part of the food deal is you order breakfast and lunch. It's pretty brilliant considering people are going to be drinking A LOT! Most of my party ordered the Dominican breakfast and then had some other things for lunch. I ordered avocado toast with an egg (very good) and had Chinese rice with egg for lunch. The rice wasn't really that great. I took A couple of bites then took the rest of it home. I doctored it up and had it the following day. The avocado toast was delicious. The crowd was fantastic! Everyone came there to dance, to drink, to just have fun, and not to start any poopie. It's a great place to celebrate a birthday or an anniversary. They give you a free bottle of champagne and a piece of cake for the table. This is not your grandfather's brunch. It's just a 100% party!!
The entire experience was amazing. This was a birthday brunch I had never seen anywhere before. FYI, food portions are small but hits the spot. I had chicken and waffles and Quesidillas. Very good. Drinks sangria and mimosa did what they were supposed to do. DJ was great and played various genres of music. I'm planning to go again, soon. I hope this experience is not only for birthday parties alone.?.
Mamajuana cafe is going to give you a different vibe depending on the time that you go. If you want a more relaxed dinner out, make sure to go before 9pm or on a weekday evening. If you want a live music Tuesday nights are for you. If you want to turn up a Friday or Saturday night around 9/10 it really gets lit. That said, the food and drinks are always 10/10.
I went here on Tuesday evening knowing my friends will be playing in the band at this restaurant. I ordered a Mofongo mix with Shrimp. Ohhhh boy super delicious blew out my mind to find it so tasty. The shrimp were clean and I didn't see any black veins left in it. I can be very picky with that. The dish was really good, I will definitely go back for more Service was slow, I was seated at the bar but the bartender couldn't keep up with the amount of people, maybe having an extra one working might work specially when the restaurant is having an event. Street parking is the only option and for me that night was a bit tough. Definitely will go back Just to think of the dish my mouth gets watery. !=
Had a great time this past weekend for my sisters birthday brunch! First time there! Great music, vibes, interaction! I had the croissant with fried cheese, egg and bacon along with the Chicken Chofan. Brunch is 1-5...$60 for 2 food choices and unlimited mimosa/sangria for 2hrs! That includes tax and gratuity for birthday brunch party - it was a total of 14 of us. No complains. There were also Cheerleaders from local High School were there for a good time. There was a raffle to help them earn money for there upcoming competition. This was very nice! Will definitely go again!
I went to Mamajuana for my birthday, and they did not disappoint. The atmosphere was beautiful. The staff was very professional and friendly. The food was really delicious. I got the mama de la mama sushi- delicious. It's a restaurant and bar. They have hookah as well, if you're looking to just have drinks and smoke with a few friends or have dinner with family. They have a photographer on site that can take pictures if you're having a celebration. If you want the photos framed, it's $20 each. Overall, it was an amazing place and service.
1st time visit, on a Thursday hucka nite. Don't do hucka. But tha ambience was lively. 2bdays in rest. Music on point. FOOD very reasonable. Definitely go back. Mb this time on a Sat.
I absolutely love this place. The food and drinks are delicious. The hardest part is trying to decide what to order. There are so many choices… every time a waiter passed me with a dish, I said to myself, “that looks good.” Eventually I ordered the Monfongo with shrimps and a pina colada with Hennessy. If you’re in the Bronx you must visit Mamajuana’s Cafe. You will not be disappointed.
It was a birthday gathering.. I pay for my own food drinks it’s was just great !! Tuesdays the place to be at..
Always have a great time here. Had one issue one time but was immediately corrected and resolved. Music is always great. Passion fruit margaritas are my favorite here.
I go there on Tuesday nights for the Latin night. We get there early for dinner. Stay for the dancing and band. If you love old school vibes when it comes to Salsa, this is the place.
I went there with my daughter who was visiting and on a Tuesday when they had the band and we had a spectacular time from the moment we walked in. I saw people that I knew, though it had been quite a number of years since I’ve been there. It was warm and inviting lively and we were lucky enough to sit next to a family that was celebrating their 80+ birthday. The sushi fusion that I had was amazing and it consisted of steak shrimp with bit of sweet plantain and my daughter had steak and arroz con gandules. We practically licked our plates. finally and I wish I could remember the name of our waitress who was very attentive and we just loved her. My only regret was not getting her name. We had a wonderful time and I cannot wait to go back.

Had dinner with my sister here. It was a Tuesday evening, plenty of seating available, they accommodated us with a table outside as per our request. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. We ordered the maduro relleno to start, chuletas and rabo al guiso. The dishes were pretty tasty. The sangria was awesome too. The server was nice, but as the night progressed we saw less of him. It was a good nite altogether. We will def make another visit in the future.
I've been here a few times and I enjoy myself each time, especially for brunch which turns into a live club atmosphere after 3:00/3:30P on Sundays. A negative is you must check your outwear unless you plan on keeping it on and it's a $1 cash fee. Another negative is the tight ladies restroom, especially for anyone of a larger figure, the ladies restroom always fills up much faster than the men's restroom so I feel there should be more stalls available, etc. Overall, it's a great environment to dine and party all in one.
The food is soooo good, especially if you don’t mind waiting. The wait times in between food, apps and drinks were long. The coquito was kinda too thick. But there was a table blowing soo much hookah smoke into my face bc they were so close that i immediately threw up whatever I ate in their bathroom 😭. I was super excited to go out but it kinda ruined the night for me. Food wise - definitely try it.

Hands down a vibe. The brunch was fun friendly and live. Too loud damn near bust my ear drum but that's just the old man in me talking lol food was meh but drinks flowed freely and music and atmosphere made up for it. Was a def highlight of our visit back home.

This place is awesome. The food & vibe is really good especially for a Sunday. The host/ Supervisor I didn't get her name but she was AMAZING. The bouncer at the door, great guy. I would of gave 5 out 5 but the waitress was HORRIBLE. Everytime 1 of my guest asked for something we got nothing. My cousin asked for a Mimosa 4 times. I had to pull the waitress to the side. My mom asked for ice nothing. I had to pull the waitress to the side. She never apologized, never checked on us to see if we needed anything simply HORRIBLE. I will be back but she will NEVER serve me again.
Very enjoyable place...I went in on Thursday for the hookah and food. It was pretty crowded but nothing uncomfortable. Only reason why I didn't give 5 stars is because we were told we had 15 minutes left before we had to get up and move to the bar, but the table next to us had finished eating way before we did and took over our table as soon as we got up. We stayed at the bar about 30 min before leaving and saw the same group of guys sitting at their table and ours. We wouldve stayed longer and ordered another drink if we didn't feel rushed to get up. Besides that...I enjoyed the music, food, and drinks and will be back.
There are times when you enter a Spanish establishment and your not Spanish the looks the stares the assumptions but as much as I notice it I sit down and order.. I break the ice it works everytime! Went for happy hour for for photos but I ordered white sangria , plantains And arroz Amarillo with gandules was YUmmy! Rodolfo was the bartender and waiter we sat at the bar for happy hour!! Forgot to take photos of small bites.
The food was delicious. The service was impeccable. The DJ was great. My only two issues were that they added on their own tip which I felt was inappropriate considering it was only two person party and I thought that was only allowed with larger parties of four or more and the red lighting in the entire restaurant that ruined my pictures by making all my photos red. Overall my experience was lovely.
Nice place to enjoy. happy hour is only at the limited bar, boo.
My daughters and I picked this place for the ambiance we experienced for my moms birthday. We visited here again on 10/26/24 on a Saturday to have dinner for my daughter's birthday with a few friends and family. The all red ambiance I craved was set up beautifully for Halloween. Shout out to Irene the host for accommodating us last minute at a busy time 7pm and to our server Gabriel for taking care of our needs there was another young lady at the door that showed us great hospitality and the young lady at the bar did not disappoint. The atmosphere was mellow well lit and they were playing good latin music and the Yankee Game on the Big screen TV, if you know you know. It was full but not crowded for a Saturday night. We sat at the Bar and had some drinks before moving on to our table as our guest began to arrive as well as other patrons for the business. The tres leche coquito was amazing. I tasted the Passion fruit Henny Colada But the Henny Colada always a fave. Our appetizer chicharon de pollo ordered at the bar was a little delayed and we ordered from an early bird special for $19.95 at the table which include a house salad or soup. We thought that was a deal and decided to order from that menu. Welp that was not a good choice as it was not its best quality food they serve there. We saw other steaks from the more expensive menu come out on the cast iron fryers still hot and sizzling. The pork chops were pale and tough and the rice and guandules was tasting like to much tomato sauce was used. Not to mention there was a slight 1hr delay in us being served our food and yet another appetizer was delayed. They said they wanted to bring it all out when we were seated at the same time. I guess we sent mixed messages as some of us kept going outside to the outdoor seating area. The salad and soup were very good. They don't allow outside bottles and the do provide bottle service. In the end you pay for the Birthday slice of Tre Leches Cake $7-8 a slice and they sing Happy Birthday. There is photographer on site that takes really nice pictures and a nice Halloween wall for pictures at $20 ea. Although it was a little on the pricey side I regret not ordering food from the more expensive menu as I have before and it was great. I recommend the Mama Juana sushi with pollo and chicharon and sweet plantain amazing. Overall they were very attentive to my table and we enjoyed our night. My daughter was happy and thats all that mattered.
I like this place for basic reasons: *The food is good. My favorite dish is the plantain stuffed with codfish. *It's not too expensive. *The music isn't too loud. *There's a lot of seating so you're not sitting in your neighbor's lap. *They have a few tables for sitting outdoors when the weather is warm. The only drawback is the waitstaff is extremely slow. They're not invisible -you can see them standing around talking to one another, they're just not coming over to talk to you! The restaurant was empty minus a few people seated at the bar (we were the only ones seated to dine), and it took almost an hour for our food to arrive (party of 3). Our server never checked in to tell us that there was a holdup. BUT to her credit, she did bring over 3 complimentary glasses of wine. Now, none of us were drinkers/drinking that day so we would have appreciated dessert more. Better to check with your clientele next time to make sure they're imbibing before placating them with liquor :) Needless to say she was equally as slow to return with the check.
I had an early dinner with friends. The seating service was quick and accommodating. The waiter was attentive but not bothersome. He made good suggestions for the varieties of dishes to taste. The music was loud enough to enjoy and speak. We had a great time. The bathroom was clean with supplies.
I don't eat there, just a few drinks. Very nice atmosphere. Will visit again.
I usually have gone here for dinner and drinks followed by a lil dancing, but this day we went for brunch to celebrate my sisters birthday. We had a blast got there before noon and were served brunch and dinner, by the time we left it was about 5pm and we were all feeling super saucy. It was good food, with nonstop mimosas and sangria. The atmosphere was everything, when they brought down the shades and brought up the music, you totally forgot it was still daylight out. Great time for sure!
Bottomless brunch that turns into a full out party, the sangria is reallly good! However I warn you all that after sitting there for 3+ hours your ears will be ringing when you leave. I highly recommend wearing ear protection!! (ear plugs)
The music is very good, but too loud. You have to scream when you talk. The food is so so. I had Chicken and waffles and the tenders were over cooked. My husband's steak was over cooked as well. They didn't ask him how he wanted it cooked. The good thing is they keep the drinks coming for the brunch.
Expecting food to be slight better. I ordered mofongo. It was dry, but good flavor
Love the place, food and ambiance. I have allergies and was thrilled when indoor smoking was eliminated . Hookah has become the next fad in smoking. It used to have its own designated area in this place, but now it’s every where, even at the bar. Last time I was there I was excited to be back. There was a hookah going at the end of the bar so I moved to the other side. As I sat, and started to order, another hookah was served there too. I left. Didn’t wait for the order.
Ok so we came in to celebrate my friends birthday this weekend and and although we had a wonderful night I think they dropped the ball on this one, as far as the food and drinks come into play. For starters there was atleast 13 of us there and we paid a little over $100 for each of us for the package which included 2hrs of open bar. I figured for that price my meal would come with maybe a soup or salad but nope, they just served me a very sad looking peace of steak with some Yuka fries and a little lettuce in one plate. The plate was plastic, looked like a cafeteria plate and and the presentation was just awful. The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned but the piece that they gave me looked like the leftover scraps of steak. The Yuka fries were no better. I would have preferred mashed potatoes or maybe some veggies. I didn't think the two paired well together all. Also in the 2 hours I only had 2 drinks. The mojito was entirely too strong, it didn't taste good at all. After that I just drank water so basically I paid over $100 for a scrap of steak, a mojito and a Beli. I suggest if you guys are going to do birthday packages and charge so much you should ensure that you are serving the guest items that are aestetically pleasing but that your also giving the customers their money's worth. We shouldn't be leaving feeling like we were scammed.
Food was fabulous, no water was served with our meals, had to ask, no diverse music only Spanish. Asked can play R&B bartender said ok but never did so.Cute spot but would never come back to dining ill rather take out. For the gratuity 30$ automatic.
It's very Loud with a DJ on Friday a night, plenty of hooka, people yelling at each other, I guess that's still a thing these days. There were plenty of tables yet the staff were having a problem getting us seated. The waitress that took our order was very concerned on whether I was going to order more food after ordering an appetizer and seemed to want me to order more food and more drinks, it was borderline pushy. After ordering a drink and appetizer she hovered waiting for me to decide what my other food options was going to be , I finally had to tell her I'll get my drink and appetizer and order the next thing later. And the added gratuity on a party of 2 with less than 100$ although the menu says party of 6 or more and a bill over 100$.
I ordered the Maduro relleno, it has cod fish in it. It was ok, the cod fish was a little chewy for my taste. I like that they have a an and a half of unlimited sangria and mamosas. Definitely got lit hahaha. I didn’t really like their yucas fries, it tasted like charcoal to me 😅. The customer service was amazing !!! But the hookah spot reservations were full and we couldn’t get any hookah. But overall, great atmosphere, the DJ was doing a phenomenal job, the food was ok and I loved their sangria.
I don't know what kind of beef was is my chaufa but that certainly did not taste like meat..no flavor and the texture was totally off..gave me Chinese spot vibes..eww other than that drinks were good and music on point
I went by myself for Brunch for super bowl 🏈 Sunday at 1 point everyone got a free champagne bottle 🍾 birthday or no birthday, I was the only 1 that didn't get 1. I kinda felt like an outsider. I asked a few ppl that work at Mamajuna why, and they said its only for bday. And I explained the DJ said every table would get 1. I even showed them tables that didn't have birthday. I really didn't want the bottle but it was principal n how I felt... but over all it was ok...
Service is decent but after five visits here over a 9 month span I have noticed the consistency in service and it is terrible… for example Thursdays is free hookah and the guy the deals with the hookah want give u a hookah unless you promise a tip and if your Spanish u get it immediately.. which is crazy because the hookah has no flavor… because they pack it extremely light…
The decor was lovely but the food and drinks were not. Ordered the oxtail and it wasn’t even halfway cooked, just gristle and toughness. You’ll get your cocktail in a champagne flute which is interesting to say the least! I expected more.
Arrived at 915, by 1045pm still waiting for the food, mind you the place says it closes at 11, they were picking up the outside seating while we were still waiting for food. Bathroom had no toilet paper, it was not even at capacity, literally 7 tables with people 🙄. Completely disappointed.
It took over an hour to get our food. The waiter never checked on us we had to keep asking other people for items. After we ate we had to wait another hour to get the check after we asked 3 people for the check… never again.
I don't think this is a right place for married couples or with children, the champagne is great but the atmosphere is not for men with families.
Great atmosphere but horrible serving staff. We would’ve have such a fun time on Cinco De Mayo if it weren’t for the unorganized and clueless waitress that served us. We never got food we ordered and charged for. Our waitress took our orders in small groups and didn’t bother to ask the rest of the table. We bonded with the table next to us by sharing stories of how Incorrect our bills were. Great music but we won’t be back before trying a few other places first. It was a bummer.
Food was great, but the service sucked. Took forever to get my food. After ordering my food, 20-30 minutes later, the mangager came over to tell me they were out of Lobster Mofongo. Why did it take so long to come and tell me? Didn't offer a free appetizer or anything. Just his apologies. Miscommunication between the kitchen and the waitress. Now I had to wait for my next food choice to be made. SHE SUCKED! She wasn't attentive at all. Didn't ask how the food was when we got it, if we needed anything else, but only kept coming to see if we wanted more at the bar. Had to ask someone to find her so I can get the check. On top of that, this rude woman had the nerve to take her tip out of the money I gave her before giving me my change back. First time ever experiencing that. Tip wasn't included in the check. That's not how it's suppose to work. What if I wanted to give more or less before she sucked as a waitress. Who was she to take her 15% out on her own. When speaking to the manager about it, seemed like he was covering for her. Best thing he could do is bring that up in a staff meeting and mention it. Nice place, and nice vibe, but I definately won't be returning.
Complete and utter transparency: Prior to arrival, I called to ask if I needed a reservation, the staff member told me yes. I made a 3:30pm reservation on a Saturday. Arrived at 3:45pm. When I walked in they were ready to seat me without even asking about the reservation. It took 5 minutes for staff to come and address the table, which was odd because the restaurant was empty. Our waitress was inattentive during our dining experience; which aggravated me because as you can see in the photos, the place was empty. Every time we looked up, she was too busy smoking hookah and hosting conversation with her friends at the bar. Food finally comes and it's not even hot. It was as though they cooked it and had it just sitting in the kitchen. I had fried pork chops, rice and beans, and my friends got the bento box. The pork chop had an odd taste to it. It also lacked flavor! I'm aware that vinegar is a staple in a Hispanic kitchen but that was all I tasted. No spices, no Sazón, no adobo, JUST VINEGAR. The meat tasted almost rancid. My friends didn't care for their food either, it lacked flavor. Then when asked how the meal is, I honestly explained I didn't like it and gave reasons why. They offered to change it for something else and I said no thank you because my friends don't like their meal either. To make matters worse, our waitress gathered with her coworkers near our table to talk badly about us in Spanish because they assumed we didn't know Spanish. I guess employees don't value quality customer service when they know gratuity is automatically added. The best aspect of the restaurant is the busboy who frequently checked to see if we needed more water. When we left, whatever little bit I ate, I vomited. I was sick for the rest of the night. I will never go back to this place!!
Services suck, everyone looks like they done like their job. Food is not is a 5 out of 10. Prices are little over price. DJ isn’t that great. I was sitting at the bar. Theirs a lot of fruit flies. I told the waitress, her reply was its fruit fly season.
My family and I are extremely disappointed in this place. We were here celebrating my sister's 50th birthday. When my husband and I arrived, we were not allowed in due to a supposed full capacity. After 30 minutes of waiting, my sister and my niece tried to talk to the promoter who was extremely rude to us, especially to my husband, whom he accused of being drunk. My husband doesn't drink, and how can you determine that by looking at an individual who you made eye contact once. My husband was indeed tired for running the Brooklyn pride marathon and then going to work afterwards but then again this is not neither hwre or there as many people were allowed in high and possibly drunk while we waited on the line than everyone was allowed in execot for both of us. We decided to leave as the promoter thought it was a good idea to continue with the false accusation. Later, I found out they also turned away my nephew due to his outfit, I saw people dressed in all type of ways being allowed in. I believe this was just a tactic to make the group leave as they were hosting the puerto rican day parade weekend, and my family having a reserved table was probably messing with their plan to accommodate people they knew or they were just straightup homophobic against gay men specifically. Phony place. Definitely would not recommend it.
Where do I start; We had a party of 33 reserved for Saturday Feb 17th for my cousins Birthday. We got there and they us at these tables that were to small. We got the appetizers and they were okay. There was a prefixed menu that had very cheap food on it. The sides consisted of mostly mashed potatoes. I could not believe that I did not see rice and beans as a side for the prefixed meals. I’ve eaten here before so I know that the regular menu is pretty good, however, the prefixed was so garbage. My cousin must’ve spent upwards from 4 to $5000. They forced us to get hookahs and bottles to save some of our seats, even though he probably spent more than anyone there. They were removing our stuff from the tables and putting reserve on it. They charged him $21 each for virgin pina coladas. There were people in my party who had to stand up because they did not accommodate us. I would never ever come to this place. The next day we went to made in puerto with like 15 of us and they accommodated us. Mamajuana lost us as customers.
If I could give it no star I would. I just don't like how the staff treats you and makes you feel especially the light skin manager or hostess with long hair. We had given this spot a few chances and customer service always fails. I hate the fact that they make you feel that you should be the one feeling lucky being there. We are the customers and we decided to come in and spend our hard earn money. We could have gone anywhere else but decided to come here. Never again will we come here. This place is over rated and to tight as*. I been to many different restaurants this place when it comes down to customer service is horrible. Like a previous reviewer wrote, I hope the community shuts it down. Or train your staff including management to provide better customer service.
Arrived a little after brunch at about 4:30 with an appetite for great food and drinks. We were met at the door by the greeter/waiter informing us that brunch had just ended and that they weren't serving food. But that we were welcome to have drinks until they start serving again, which would be in like an hour or so. I was a little taken back as this is a restaurant establishment that thrives off of selling food. You have to know how to cater to your customers and creating an inviting atmosphere that will keep customers returning. Definitely left a bad taste and I don't think I will be returning.
This restaurant was recommended from a friend. We were really looking forward to having a nice meal having driven 2 hours (upstate selection for Spanish food is very limited). I ordered the lobster monfongo. My family ordered the seafood paella. The paella was tasteless and my monfongo had a long hair in it. I told the waitress and she asked if I wanted anything else. When I found the hair at the bottom of the dish, I was already full. No one ever came over to apologize about my meal. The bill came with my dish still on it. I do not recommend this place. The food was terrible and we were not compensated for their mess up.
The customer service was horrible after waiting there at the table for over 40 we left the waiters were only helping tables with guys and big chains but since we were girls without big chain they never once came to ask what we wanted, the hookah guy gave us better service. I will never go back and no I don’t recommend unless you are guys with big chains “rich looking” they do help you.
A group I go there with about once a month. Side note I wanted to go to other places. Well, the service is trash (besides a couple of girls that leave at 11). We was there on Friday 13 of us with 2 more walking in a minute or so. The one servicer said we have to get a bottle to have a table. We been there multiple times never was told that. We didn't want a bottle we drink different drinks. Which works better for the location, everyone ordering drinks after drinks. So, the servicer try to kick us out. Just because we wanted to order whatever we each drink. Which would have had work better for her and the place. I personally spend over $300. Times that by 12 it's better then forcing to get a bottle. Plus, the other servicer (blonde) acts like it's a bother for her to do her job. Have to wait for her to finish smoking Hookah or talking to friends. My money spends just as well even better at places that don't act like it's a honor for me to spend my money there.
The customer service at this restaurant is poor and backwards. I made a reservation for 16 people and paid a deposit of $16.33 per person for a menu that was supposed to be prefixed with a 2 course meal, dessert, and unlimited brunch drinks. When my friends and I arrived, we were given the regular brunch menu from which we ordered as well as individual drinks and pitchers of drinks that were not unlimited as advertised. 10 of the 16 people from my reservation arrived, and when the check arrived, the restaurant refused to apply the deposit previously paid for the 6 people who did not attend towards the bill even though we spent more than the prefix price we were quoted and were not given the prefixed menu and unlimited drinks that I was told we would be given. The restaurant told me that the deposit was nonrefundable which was understood but we did not ask for the money back but for the total deposit paid to be applied towards the bill like I was told it would be. The restaurant was empty during our entire duration there so they did not lose anything by serving my large party...if anything they wrongfully gained $90 that should have been applied to the bill.
Attended a Halloween brunch for kids that I was invited to through a family member. First time to this restaurant and always heard great things. A complete fail! Waited almost 2hrs for food. .kids food...chicken tenders, fries, etc. The restaurant was packed, many tables didn't get served after that long wait and the kids were miserable because they were hungry. We had one drink during the wait and decided to leave. Paid for the drink which was ridiculously overpriced ($25 for a Pina coolada) and left to get the lids something to eat. The even was a great idea bur execution of it was poorly managed.
Had a Birthday group of almost 40 ppl. On 2/17/2024. Spent 5k they treated us nasty. The food sucked and the service is trash. Place need proper ventilation for hooka smokers. Never go there again. Over priced for trash service
On 7/12/25, a group of us decided to go to the restaurant, after an event we were promoting in the Bronx with a number of recording artists and politicians who showed up. To our surprise it was the worse experience we had. We all sat down while the waitress was very friendly and taking our order. As we waited for our food we heard pop shots followed by two more pop shots, thinking it sounded like gunshots inside, everyone was running and going under the tables and many ran out to their back patio, running for their lives and screaming. Some tripped over each other and slippers were left behind. People were running for their lives. It appeared that all this was because a drink was dropped on someone’s foot, as we had heard. We did not stay around to see if it was actually gunshots or not. The cops arrived but we didn’t stay around. Many left and left their food behind. We decided to go to another restaurant to eat. I Will never go back to this restaurant again. People do not know how to act. If I can give a zero I would. What we can say is, at least many of our lives were saved or spared.
If you plan on going here on a night where there’s security don’t your NOT SAFE. Last night Friday March 14, 2025 between 10-11 pm my friend came out of the restaurant to have a conversation (we stepped out next door) my friend was standing outside and had a physical altercation with a male, where he slapped and flipped her on the concrete right in front of the security guards. Not one of those Male security guards (there were 2) came out to help her. She is physically hurt but I thank God there were no weapons involved because then maybe if she was outside on the curb bleeding they would have intervened. It’s sad to say in this world we’re not here to help one another in a time of need especially with all the domestic violence. If you are going to have security make sure they’re there to protect and not just Check IDs because this altercation could have progressed to something that we could not come back from..and if any of this is in question please check your cameras so today if I could establishment 0 stars I would
My friends and I frequently visit Mamajuana, every 2 or 3 weeks, we was there last Friday night and we had a group of 8-10 people. They said we had to buy bottles in order to keep the seats, despite them making more money since everyone at our table was eating / drinking their own thing. Long story short, we got kicked out by Carlos the manager(has an ego problem). Nobody was rude to him, but he felt like he needed to show his power in front of his employees. Very unprofessional. Definitely would not recommend this spot moving forward. It's a shame because their food is really good.
Absolutely horrible service every single time. I’ve given this place more chances than I should have, and every visit just confirms how badly run and disorganized it is. I’ve been here multiple times, and the service either stays the same (which is already terrible) or somehow manages to get worse. On this last visit, I waited over an hour for TWO appetizers. Not entrees—just two basic appetizers. And when I politely brought it up to the manager, he had the nerve to tell me that it definitely hadn’t been over an hour, as if I was making it up or didn’t know how long I had been sitting there. No apology, no solution—just attitude and defensiveness. The server? Barely around. I had to physically get up multiple times just to find him and ask for things because he never once came to check on us. No drink refills, no updates, nothing. And this wasn’t a one-off situation either. The time before that, I ordered a hookah—and two HOURS later, still nothing. It never came. No explanation, no follow-up, just forgotten like it didn’t matter. To top it all off, I came here with my friend and our children for Mother’s Day hoping to enjoy a nice, relaxing meal. Instead, we spent most of it hungry, annoyed, and ignored. The manager’s rude attitude and the staff’s complete lack of care or urgency ruined what was supposed to be a special day. When I voiced my concerns, they brushed everything off like it was no big deal. Completely nonchalant, like they couldn’t care less about the customer experience. I will never return. I’ve had way too many bad experiences here, and this last one was the final straw. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration. This place is a mess.
I recently came here with a party of 11, and honestly, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. We had a reservation, so you’d think they would’ve been prepared but nope. They squeezed us into a super tight area with barely enough seating, and everyone was uncomfortable from the moment we sat down. It felt like they just threw the table together last minute without thinking. We had the pre-fixed menu with the “unlimited” drinks for two hours, but that turned out to be pointless because the service was unbelievably slow. Our waiter was horrible constantly disappearing, joking around, and not paying attention to our table at all. Because of how long he took to come back each time, most of us only managed to get two drinks within the whole two-hour limit. Definitely not worth the money. The food didn’t save the experience either. The appetizers made a few of us feel sick almost immediately, and instead of checking in, the staff seemed overwhelmed and uninterested. When the entrées finally came out, some orders were completely wrong, some plates were cold, and nothing looked like it was made with care. For such a big party, you’d expect better coordination, but it felt like chaos the entire time. Overall, this was just a horrible experience from all angles!!!! service, food, organization, everything. I would not recommend this place at all, and I definitely won’t be returning. Save your money and energy and go literally anywhere else.
We went on Saturday evening right before 7pm. The service was slow and terrible and the food too. We had the bistec encebollado and the stuffed chicken breast. The steak was burnt and the sauce tasted burnt. The mashed malanga that came with the chicken tasted dry and the sauce for the chicken was salty. The drinks took over 20 minutes to come and they weren’t even busy. The best part was the drinks, after they came. We had an el aventurero and a passion colada.
Music was way too loud. So loud, I couldn't hear anyone speaking to me. My drinks were given to me in a plastic cup and didn't look like the pictures on the menu at all. I'll say the drinks tasted great, but presentation sucked. Food: my appetizer with the pinchos was great, however, for the entree I had to send it back because it was made wrong and I got the wrong things. My waiter then switched our table to another waitress because he got upset that I sent the food back. I'm not going to sit here and settle for a plate I'm paying 39$ for. Fair to say, I'd likely not go back.
I told the waitress what I wanted which was $25. She said some add on which she implied that it was included. She didn't explained herself correctly and when I got the bill it was $50. I had to speak to the owner and he was trying to debate me. First of all the place was super loud and a waitress who doesn't explain the menue properly. Also on the bill they add automatically gratitude which is illegal if it wasn't disclosed in the beginning. In the end the owner did gave me cash back but I will not go there again. They need proper training for these waitress.
