Opinions de Slave To the Grind Bronxville
Dancing Goats blend is forever a fave, iced or hot. Friendly staff, always just the right atmosphere, like an oasis or a retreat. Perfect pick-me-up anytime. So glad I stopped in today.
Love this place every-time! Banana iced coffee hits every time! And other flavors too, been coming for years. A staple in the Westchester community!!!
Hands down one of the best coffee spots around. The coffee itself is outstanding, but what really sets it apart is the staff. The shop has a cozy, welcoming vibe, with plenty of space to hang out, catch up with friends, or get some work done. They also have a great selection of coffee beans on the wall, so there’s something for every taste.
It’s impossible to recommend any place more than Slave to the Grind. Truly, they have the best coffee and most kind-hearted people working there, who are always willing to have a conversation with you and get to know you. More than that, they make you feel like family and it’s a great place to hang out or just get some work done.
Busy coffee shop and good coffee. Wish they could use the place next door's outdoor seating in the morning. What a waste... anyway, we sat in the back so we could hear each other and enjoyed the morning.
One of my favorite coffee places in Bronxville! Always a friendly staff and the coffee is amazing. Fun flavor options and tons of different combinations. The line can get long and can take a while during busy times but overall worth the wait.
Honestly a very cozy atmosphere and quite a hype feeling for a cafe in such a small town. It felt like being in a trendy cafe in Brooklyn. And yet, quiet enough to work. Blue berry muffins and their oat milk were great.
I've been coming here since it opened and I must say the staff has always been amazing. Especially now! They are more hard working than ever, constantly cleaning and restocking etc. I give my sincere praise to Gia for going the extra mile to make sure the place is clean and exceptional, and for making my coffee exactly perfect! I want to thank and praise also Maureen, Jack, Dylan and Liz for their kind and friendly attitudes no matter how late it is . Of course I also appreciate the professionalism of Joey, Tucker, Casey and Kelly and the staff from a few years back - Eugene, Kerin, Dallas, Tim, Ethan and Owen and the morning crew - Troy, Greg, Talia , Griffin and Lewis! Love this place for the warm welcome I always get and the amazing environment the staff creates for it's customers! Great music too:)
Hands down one of the best coffees in the town. We were going to have a long day at work so decided to grab two and loved it. There is a place to sit and do some work as well but it does get busy. I have to admit that the staff was really quick and with few mins the line disappeared and we had the cafe to ourselves. Orange cranberry scone was delicious as well.
This is a nice spot. The staff is friendly. There is a great selection of coffee. Prices are fair in my opinion. I am very particular about cappuccinos. I have been craving one ever since I left work as a barista. But this place looked like they could make a good one. So I ordered a medium, vanilla cappuccino and I was not disappointed. It was really, really good. If you like bone dry capps, you will need to specify. Mine was not as light as I would have made it, but it was delicious. My boyfriend ordered a toasted almond cream, drip coffee. He did not care for that one. However, there are so many options here, I will gladly come back to try their other offerings.
I’ve come to Bronxville for years, and for whatever reason I haven’t visited Slave to the Grind until now. The coffee is absolutely delicious. They always have different flavors. The shop has a ton of character and the staff is great. Definitely my new favorite coffee shop. I’ll be coming here from now on.
Casual and cozy spot with lots of coffee and tea options. Pastries are pretty good too. Baristas are always friendly even during busy times
Famous coffee shop (with Wi-fi), $2.25 regular coffee (12 oz), nice selection of sweet and savory pastries + good selection of cookies, multiple flavored syrups (+$1), alternate milks etc. They also have tea, chai, 6 special in-house drinks and sell coffee beans (17-20 per pound). There is a $5 minimum for card payments. I had the s'mores hot chocolate which was a fun idea but poorly executed as the graham crackers were on the hot chocolate instead of the marshmallows on top. Thus the graham crackers were soggy and not enjoyable. The hot chocolate part was good though.
This place is really cool! They have a lot of variety of coffee beans which they can grind for you. Interesting flavors like red velvet. They have a large variety of iced coffee flavors as well! Their oat milk latte tasted fantastic! Staff is friendly and there’s plenty of seating inside and outside. I liked how the staff had lots of regulars come by. It just shows how great this place is. I found the music to be really great here too. They also have apparel. Thank you for your hospitality Slave to the Grind.
Slave to the Grind is a lovely place to go if you're doing anything except drinking coffee. The staff is friendly, trendy, and genuinely hard-working. The atmosphere is cozy in that cramped Bronxville way - full of Sarah Lawrence students, commuters grabbing something before the train, and bulletin boards overflowing with local notices. As a hangout, it's iconic. But the actual coffee? It's rough. The beans in the tubes look like they've been sitting there for weeks-shiny, stale, and roasted well past the point where any nuance could survive. There’s a wide selection, sure, but it’s a wide selection of indistinguishable, overroasted blends with no roast dates, no origins, and no freshness indicators. Single-origin fans won’t find anything here, and even casual drinkers will notice the muddy, burnt flavor. A lot of other reviews mention the same thing: the drinks are inconsistent. Sometimes the coffee comes out lukewarm, sometimes scalding, sometimes bitter, sometimes weak. The espresso is especially disappointing—flat and sharp at the same time, like it’s both under-extracted and stale. And for the price? It’s hard to justify. You’re paying “beloved local café” rates for coffee that tastes like it was roasted during the Obama administration. As a place to meet a friend, go on a date, or grab a pastry, Slave to the Grind has charm. But as a coffee destination, it’s overrated. There are better cups in town, and far better cups within a few miles. Sit inside, enjoy the vibe, read the bulletin board—but skip the coffee. It just isn’t worth it. Go to Coffee Unique or the train station place if the stars have aligned and it decided to be open for a change. Both are right across the street and both will do you much better.
I’m a big coffee drinker and was really looking forward to trying this place, but unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. While I was waiting in line with my cousin to order, the barista looked at me, took a sip of her coffee, and sarcastically asked, “Would you like a sip?” It was rude and unprofessional. I left feeling very uncomfortable. I won’t be returning — I’ll be sticking to Starbucks.
This was my first time going to this coffee shop and it will certainly be the last! I ordered a drink and the barista automatically assumed that I was with an African American guy who was also waiting on line. Mind you, there were no words transferred between the two of us. I feel like it was because the both of us are black and looking around, the majority of people who were in that place were white. I didn’t think too much of it until I got my drink and I took one swallow and was chewing on what appeared to look like paper. I figured maybe I didn’t remove all the paper from the straw and it accidentally got into the drink. When I took another swallow, there was more paper so I knew something was wrong. I proceeded to go back into the coffee shop and explained to another barista that paper was found in the drink. She acted shocked and didn’t know how it got in there. She asked if I wanted another one so I just took her offer, but I ended up not drinking it because I didn’t like the first drink experience. I will NEVER be returning! I try not to automatically think about race, but I just have a feeling that it was because I was black in an all white coffee shop. So be weary if you go there and you’re of color!
Visited on a Saturday night recently, and could not have been more disappointed. Wife and I ordered two large coffees. Both were cold. As I was paying, my wife had taken a sip and alerted the barista, who asked me if I had taken a sip yet. Because my wife had and I hadn't, she brewed my wife a fresh cup but used the milk steamer to warm mine. I'm sorry. If you're serving coffee that so old it's gotten cold, brew a fresh pot. You're a coffee shop! They offer very little in sweet treats to enjoy with coffee but my wife chose a blondie and I a brownie. The brownie was quite a bit older than the coffee. We will not be going back. Especially when you consider that there's a much nicer coffee spot across the street.
If I could leave 0 stars I would. I don't know where to begin. I ordered a simple hot coffee and waited 15-20min. Not only having to wait but the coffee must’ve been sitting there for over 5 days for the poor taste.
This is a coffee shop that is screaming for a manager who knows what they're doing. This is the second time in as many months that I've gone in and they don't have decaf espresso because as they say "the company they buy from is kind of unreliable". If they had management who knew what they were doing, they'd be buying from a company who wasn't undependable so they had a product there for when people come in and ask for it. Thank goodness there's a new coffee shop on Pondfield road opening in another week.
