Opinions de Daigo Sushi Roll Bar Brooklyn
I have been to all three Daigo locations (City Point, 4th Ave, and this one) and they all are great with their consistent level of preparation and quality fish. This one is nice because it is the most “sit down” of the three, most of the seats are at the bar! Ha! Just like the standing-only location at Dekalb Market Hall (in City Point), you get served one hand roll at a time to ensure your rice is warm. I’ve only been here with as a party of three max so I don’t know for sure if you’d get one hand roll at a time if you can as a bigger party. Not pictured is the ebi handroll with a generous amount of raw baby sweet shrimp that is bursting with flavor. What I like about Daigos is that you can stop in for a delicious handrolls in a quick and casual setting.
One of my favorite places to go with me and my partner. Intimate, reasonably priced and EXCELLENT, fresh cut rolls and handrolls. Will always frequent and recommend this place!
Great handrolls! Perfect quality, exactly what I wanted. Lovely staff and great bar seating. Pretty great beer selection too.
This place is just perfect - simple, delicious, well made, no fuss. I love coming here for lunch. If the weather is nice, sitting outside.
we split the 3-roll lunch combo (we should’ve gotten 2 rolls each) and everything was so delicious. you could see everything being prepared behind the counter, which was nice — the atmosphere overall was just perfect. prices were very fair too, especially given the quality. could not recommend this place more!!
This place is a gem. Like seriously the best cut rolls and hand rolls I've ever had. Super fresh. Hand rolls nori are so crispy. Snow crab roll is delicious. My wife likes the spicy tuna and seaweed salad. Very good. Nice selection of saki. Don't hesitate because it's just rolls. It's amazing. Service is so attentive. Chefs are friendly. I go 3 times per month minimum. Recommend to dine in.
There's standard NY Sushi (better than most other places in the country, Good NY Sushi (better than anywhere else in the country,) and truly great NY Sushi (you should definitely go out of your way for this one!) Daigo fits squarely in the last category of truly great NY Sushi. They obviously take great pains to get only the best ingredients and employ the people that know how to handle them. My family enjoys the sushi from Daigo both for delivery and dining in. We most recently had lunch there and everything was as perfect as we could imagine. My wife and son each had maki roll lunch specials (my wife 2 and my son 3) and they couldn't stop declaring how great they were. I had the Daigo special bowl (an amazing chirashi type assortment) and it was spectacular. Besides top class food, the service is welcoming and attentive and the small space is a comfortable place that makes you feel like you've found one of the borough's best secret spots. The next time you're feeling like maki rolls or hand rolls, make this your stop. You won't be dissapointed!
Very understated, simple, small Japanese hand roll bar. Reminiscent of one of many small establishments you’d find in a stall-lined street in Japan. 🇯🇵 It can get packed very fast if you’re here at a busy time but if you’re here off-hours alone? It’s perfect. The hand rolls are everything you need and nothing you don’t. The simplicity of crispy nori and fresh fish is 👌🏼. It’s not a place that will fill you up unless you really break the bank. But it’s a good place to eat very high quality food on a sensible portion. Eat well. Live well. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I had a great lunch quickie at Daigo. actually it was a standing one as there are no seats, its sort of a standing bar. Two handrolls and a Miso soup. Outstanding. at $15. The rolls were fresh, the rice was great. The seaweed wrapper was outstanding. I had worse and paid more at some fancy Omakase restaurants. It wasn’t a standing quickie though 🤷♂️.
Located just off of 4th Ave on Carroll St, this little sushi spot has proven to be one of the best in the neighborhood. Nothing "fancy" and over the top, this sushi let's the fish shine versus typical places that cover with various sauces. When we first started going here, we had no idea it was the same restaurant as the one in Dekalb Market. The prices are very affordable, for sushi standards, and well packaged in thoughtfully designed boxes to go if you don't eat on site. There's at least a dozen, or more sushi restaurants around this area, however this has become our go to for consistent quality without trying to mask flavors with sauces. There is indoor and outdoor seating as well and a very clean establishment. Eating on site, you don't have to wait long as the sushi is prepared quickly by the master sushi chef.
A nice small traditional looking sushi bar. Has a Humble atmosphere. Had 6 different cut rolls and they were good, I was expecting the quality to be higher. The ingredients used were good and the chef accommodated for the Uni roll even though it wasn't on the menu that day. Overall it is a nice place to drop by and have a lovely evening to enjoy a conversation over good sushi.
6/18/24 - I always start at 5 stars and drop if needed I availed their 3 roll + miso soup lunch deal during the heatwave of 2024 haha I sat at the bar by the chef. Not sure if he was Japanese I asked "suatte iidesu ka" (may I sit) and he seemed a bit confused or in his zone. Took a few minutes and the chef prompting the two servers to greet me - there were 2 guests outside and 4 inside at the time. I wish they marked on the menu what wasn't included in the lunch or what had add ONS but it was listed on the 8.5x11 that caught my attention on the door. The rolls were warm, not hot, but like almost a baked roll but not quite. Which was a bit confusing (I grew up in Japan in elementary and Guam for 20 years) Idk if fate so happened that the 3 I chose were warm rolls. Miso was light; some might say bland. Not that I am a sushi chef but these rolls were cut crooked and in varying sizes vs symmetrical like you would normally find "traditional" rolls Not a deal breaker. Great deal. Decent meal There was no music though which made the restaurant "feel weird" yanno. There's anothet Daigo right down the st as well so it seems to be a budding franchise possibly losing their special touch as they grow faster than they can keep up their 5 star standards. I'd still go again - but the 2 cheese pizza + canned soda for $8 down the road might be a better bang for your buck.
Great hand rolls but try without any special sauce on them. Someone recommended us this place for hand rolls because I’m a huge fan of . I wound definitely recommend spicy scallop, spicy tuna, yellowtail hands rolls. I wouldn’t recommend shrimp hand rolls because it’s was tempura, and no eel - it came with special sauce that reminded me sushi from sheepshead Bay Area lol The crab roll with avocado was just okay( my favourite one in sugarfish) . Ginger and wasabi are very good. So definitely recommend this place but just try to avoid any special sauces or maybe just ask them on the side They do have beers but only in cans :( I love draft or bottles . Nice atmosphere and crowd
I want to love it and give it 5 stars because I can tell this place was founded with a lot of care and passion but the sushi is warm and loose. The staff is wonderful and the decor is fantastic but the rolls are just loose and warm. I like a cold tight roll not a loose, floppy, warm roll. I’ve tried it twice and both times have had the same disappointing sushi.
Cute vibes in the restaurant. I had the lunch special which was two sushi rolls and a miso soup for $13. The miso soup was super watered down, borderline drinking hot water. The rolls were nice, I had a veggie roll and a vegetable roll. Could have been more hearty. Used single-use plastics for ginger and soy sauce which was really unideal. Also used disposable chopsticks. More sustainable options would be better.
Genuinely surprised by the very high rating. The atmosphere is very nice, place is nicely decorated and has good music. The sushi however, was below mediocre. I had one California roll which was falling apart. Having warm rice sushi was also surprising. I also had some ikura, which itself was of decent quality. However, it was also falling apart, had warm rice. Rice is the most important ingredients sushi. In this case it was wet, warm, slightly too sweet, with no hint of vinegar.
Disappointing as of late… We’ve been ordering sushi exclusively from Daigo since 2020, and we’ve consistently ordered the same items: salmon avocado rolls, spicy tuna rolls and miso soup. Unfortunately, today’s order completely missed the mark. We were first surprised by the change in packaging - which once was all paper and branded is now cardboard and plastic, even the sauce sizes have been reduced. The miso soup was totally different - last time it was full of tofu and flavor, today it taste like it was from a paste I could find at the grocery store. Lastly, and the biggest disappointment was that the size of the rolls was drastically reduced and very uneven.
