Customer service was great. I went during happy hour with a group of friends. The nachos with chicken were good, the wings, and also the elote 🌽. Frozen drinks 👍🏾👍🏾 I would definitely visit again.
Mid-morning on a Friday. To our delight, there wasn't anyone around except the obliging barkeep. We ordered the calamari, and two tacos – Korean BBQ and Captain Jack. It’s always nice when calamari – quite possibly the most ubiquitous app there is out there – comes adorned with something a little extra: zippy lime-soaked red onions, charred corn and a creamy, piquant chipotle mayo. We polished off the tacos, which were a tad pricey, but no complaints! It’s not surprising that Ho’Brah’s is a local beloved; if you’re looking for a brunch snack, or a place to just kick back, this is the place for you. The only thing missing are some oceanfront vistas.
Great taco joint and have eaten there many times. Never disappointed. Tacos are top notch as is the service. Consuela's pork empanadas are delish, actually all their empanadas are delish. They make a mean Margarita as well. Kid friendly since they have a children's menu. A small place and fills up quickly so keep that in mind if you are thinking about going there. Also keep in mind it has a bar right next to many of the tables and it can get loud. This is mostly after 6pm, lunch and anywhere up to 4pm it is fairly quiet with no wait for a table. Not a pure Mexican style restaurant, but more of California style. Menu is varied and very reasonably priced.
I came to ho’brah for brunch and they did not disappoint. The food was delicious! Owen was the most accommodating and attentive server. He recommended the churros for desert and WOW! The best churros I’ve ever had. They were a bit heavy but I enjoyed every bite. And let me not even talk about their mango Margarita…. That tajin rim always wins me over.
Absolutely delicious and very affordable. Ended up doing catering from here and had soo much food!! We did 4 types of meats- korean bbq, carnitas, chicken, and beef. My fav was Korean bbq, was quite surprised but it was amazing- definitely recommended. The takeout included beans (2 types), corn, pico, sauces, and more. This is absolutely perfect for a large gathering, and soo soo good. Can’t recommend enough- and so much food!
When we first arrived there was a couple looking in through the window. One said, 'there's only two people seated, let's go somewhere else.'. That was their mistake. We had read the reviews, we knew where we were going. Probably seats 30 with a nice vibe and decor for a taco bar. Birria tacos were amazing. A thin shell that was sturdy and tasty too. The beef great, the sauce too. By the time we left our late lunch there were 10 inside. Great food, we'll be back.
The tacos were tiny but good, definitely not great, reservations needed but capped at an hour and a half to eat, so don’t be late. The quesadilla was huge but bland as filled with cheap rice, avoid this dish or you will regret not following my advice. The nachos were very good at a good price, but ordering food here is like rolling the dice. The place is always busy and I really don’t know why, I suggest you try a different restaurant as there are many other places nearby
So I was very sad and I haven’t been there in a couple months and the awesome bearded gentleman who is usually behind the bar was not there. I was trying to be optimistic, but the drinks were terrible full of ice, barely any liquor. I decided to just go with my father‘s drink a straight shot, which was upsetting because they’re known for their margaritas. The wet burrito sauce had no flavor. It just doesn’t taste the same. My mother actually added ketchup to the sauce I definitely won’t be coming back now that John doesn’t work there so upsetting he was excellent and he knew what he was doing ! My server was lovely. She’s a sweet girl. Also, when they say, would you like queso with the nachos they should imply that it’s a separate dish with nachos not cheese on the side because that wasn’t worth $212 this dinner especially when the drinks were all ice I won’t be coming back But fortunately for me, I know the restaurants and there’s so many more that I go to ✅
TLDR: Expectations from prior visit unmet, decent food, inconsistent service. The restaurant is pretty small, only maybe 10 tables or so. There is a bar. The restaurant was warmly lit and the decor was nice but it was very very loud. We ordered the Wikea Brisket Quesadilla, Elote Fries, and Tropical Shrimp Bowl. They all came out pretty fast, but we were served chips for starters. The last time I'd visited I had gotten salsa and guacamole with the chips, but this time it was only salsa. Which is fine, because maybe avocado prices have gone up? until I realized that they were serving some tables the guacamole along with the chips and salsa. So it seemed like they were picking and choosing who to give just salsa and who to give guacamole and salsa. Seemed like some of the regulars got the guacamole. Weird. Also, we ended up being charged for a refill on the salsa (2 bucks for that tiny cup?) but our server did not tell us about this. Not great. The elote fries were topped high and tasted very good. The fries themselves were a bit soggy but what do you expect. Very filling and relatively cheap. The wikea brisket quesadilla was really good. The brisket was smoky and salty and the cheese was creamy and stretchy. Came with a side of sour cream and salsa. The shrimp bowl was disappointing. It was really mostly white rice and shredded cabbage with a few dices of mango and only four pieces of shrimp. If you're charging $18 for the bowl give some more shrimp. The service was inconsistent. Our table's server was devoid of any emotion and was almost cold. But the other staff seemed in high spirits. Another server was very friendly and accommodating when I asked for hot water, even asking if I wanted lemon slices. The staff were for the most part gathered around the bar talking to each other and it was hard to get their attention at times. Overall, disappointing experience and unmet expectations. The food was decent but stick to the classics (i.e. don't get the shrimp bowl). Why so weird with the guacamole? Was super happy after last time's visit but now I'm not sure I will return.
Food & cocktails were very good - had the classic Cali fish tacos, blackened " mahi mahi " seared tacos 🌮 & the Cabo fish tacos, also the pork empanada, loco frites & the Ho Brah house salad 🥗 - I suggest the avocado 🥑 ranch dressing ( only disappointment was the long wait - but everything was very fresh ) The frozen cucumber 🥒 margerita was delicious- so was the fresh squeezed lemonade & the blueberry margerita ( NOT from a mix - all very fresh & delicious 😋 ) Another disappointment is I couldn't try the churros or the Tres leches desserts because they were out of them ( oh well, I'll have to go back another time to try them ) The other " disappointment " is the place is very small ( wish they would consider expanding to the corner location where the middle eastern kebab place used to be or where lobo loco used to be- if they are available) I know you don't go to a bar or restaurant for their bathroom, however, as a woman whose pet peeve is a bathroom with low lighting, it was practically being in the dark. Overall, fun, local " Mexican " place ( oh, almost forgot, our server Simone was very nice - it seemed at 1st she was not in a very good mood, but then was sweet & friendly)
This was one of my favorite restaurants. I heard from fellow ho brah lovers they hadn’t been enjoying it and didn’t want to return. I dismissed them and was so utterly disappointed. The fish tacos were inedible. It was the first time in my life I returned food to the kitchen. Everything else was mediocre.
Ordered from this restaurant a little over a month ago and they hit it out the park! Tonight the kitchen staff must be different as we received deep fried Birria Tacos and Burnt Quesadilla with very little portions of meat, To top it all off our drinks weren’t delivered. Hoping this changes when dining in, but definitely avoiding ordering take out.
The service sucks. There are signs that say “ see hostess to be seated “ I waited around for a while, couldn’t tell who worked there. I eventually asked the bartender and he seemed clueless. We sat ourselves outside; then went inside to ask how do we order. After about 15-20 mins someone came. The drinks are good, and nachos, def recommend. Not sure about the tacos. We had some Long Beach all star and bohemian tacos. The meat was bland. The Long Beach all star was a little too wet for my liking and the steak pieces were cut big and thick for a small tortilla. Next time I’ll just stick to drinks and nachos.
I am writing this review to share a concerning experience I had at Ho Brah Taco Joint during an Uber pickup order that was fully prepaid through the app. When I arrived to collect my order, the employee assisting me questioned whether I had paid in a rude and accusatory tone instead of professionally verifying the order. The interaction felt disrespectful and poorly handled. More troubling was that the employee made a remark that appeared to make fun of my cultural name while checking the order. I found this inappropriate and insensitive. A customer’s name and background should always be treated with respect. I hope management reviews this feedback and takes steps to improve staff professionalism and cultural awareness so future customers are treated with courtesy and respect.
