Pasta Wow! Beautiful atmosphere. Perfect for date night. Right by Steiner studios.
All I can say is… WOW. I am an artist and I just had my first gallery show at Picto New York, a gallery of the block. I ate here almost every day during the installation because it was so freaking great. Favorites include the grilled Italian sausage w broccoli rabe Panini and grandma pie. This is a picture of Sal, one of the owners along with his brother. Solid citizen!!
We love it in here. Yes, it's our most local but the people are really lovely, the food is always really good, and their Grandma pie is fantastic. We tend to stick to puzza, but we have had their specials a few times too, and a la carte items, they're always really good.
My personal experience is from my frequent visits to IL Porto in Brooklyn, NY, and the fact that I am one of the vocal entertainers there on most weekends with a duo or trio, and one whom all the customers admire and enjoy. I am a true witness to the delicious Italian dishes that I have tasted. Each dish is always beautifully prepared, plentiful, fresh, the sauces are absolutely authentic Italian tastes, and there's a wide variety of Brick Oven baked pizzas, and wraps. I've never heard one bad complaint out of all the years of going there. The atmosphere is friendly and pleasant although the place is quaint and small. And, the service is reasonably good when it's not too overwhelmingly crowded...which it gets from time to time. But, it's worth the wait...if you're not real hungry! ☺️ Everyone who has visited this spot will willfully return to enjoy more of IL Porto Italian Ristorante - 37 Washington Ave., Brooklyn, NY. There is eat in, take out, and delivery. During good weather .. eat @outdoor tables.
This pizza is unreal, very fresh ingredients and perfectly crispy and chewy at the same time. This place is truly a hidden gem and completely underrated compared to all the big pizzeria places in the city.
Wonderful spot. Looks like it's family owned, there is a sense of pride and ownership in it. The atmosphere is relaxed. Pizza is amazing, four cheeses is my favorite. Good drinks.
Il Porto’s grandma pie is in a league of its own. It’s perfect. Every other grandma pizza in the city pales in comparison. The staff is super friendly - Sal is the biggest sweetheart of ‘em all. The cocktails are surprisingly good, they have ample seating inside and outdoors, and they even have a gluten-free pizza if you need it. This place is something special.
They did it again, after working a hard day went down to the restaurant and was well greeted. You must try their table bread focaccia superb. Definitely ask for the white wine. I forgot what it was called, but it tasted like a sweet pear. I indulged into a thin slice of chicken cutlet topped off with Bejo eggplant red sauce melted mozzarella. I didn’t even have to use a knife. I’ll be back.
Today was a special day. It was my mom‘s 91st birthday. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated the staff and everybody who helped to make her birthday memorable. The food was so delicious and every plate was gigantic. I would come back here over and over again, and I would bring as many people as I know to be able to experience the food the ambience and the drinks. The way, my family and I did today. it is street parking so first come first serve and it’s about seven blocks away from the BQE. it is also handicap accessible.
I have been to many Italian restaurants all across the city. I put IL Porto in with the best of them. If you are looking for an Italian restaurant in downtown Brooklyn, I honestly believe you can’t find better. The atmosphere is relaxed, the portions generous and the taste consistently great. Over the past 13 years I have ordered takeout, dined in the restaurant with my immediate family and held parties there with my extended family, not once have I ever been disappointed. Unlike some restaurants where they are pulling the plate away from you before you have taken the last bite, the relaxed atmosphere allows you to enjoy the food and the company you are with. Regardless of what appetizer, entree, or dessert I have chosen, it has always been a delight.
Great service and ambiance! There was subtle live music and the waiter was absolutely amazing! I didn't catch his name, but he worked the bar, took our orders, and served our food. He made sure we were having an amazing time and he was a great sport. Food was good. I had the gnocchi, which seemed decent. My friends ordered the rack of lamb special and they loved it.
Best grandma slice in Brooklyn. And the staff is nice and friendly.
the food was delicious, and well priced. The marcher it’s pizza was amazing, cooked to perfection. And my gnocchi was perfectly cooked, had an amazing texture. the live music they had was very entertaining, and wasn’t too loud. i would totally recommend, and would come back here again.
Amazing Authentic Italian food nestled in Clinton Hill Brooklyn. Live jazz on Fridays and Saturdays from 7 to 10. Their menu offers fresh homemade pasta and wood fired Pizza. Definitely a must try place. The atmosphere is so nice and outdoor patio seating is available. You must check it out.
Great food, friendly service, and very clean establishment. Excellent wine and cocktails selection. My girlfriend loved the rack of lamb come with crispy potato croquettes and French beans. Amazing wood brick oven pizza and calzones are scrumptious.
So glad Il Porto is still open. I can honestly say they have the best pizza in the area and even in these challenging times, the quality was as just as exceptional as during normal operations. Truly, they are an exemplary business in this city. I look forward many more years of enjoying their pizza
Very nice and cozy place, the food was something amazing…and the service felt like family. Definitely recommend.
Everyone was warm & welcoming as I entered, despite the fact that they closed in 30 min. I got the gnocchi and a tiramisu, to-go. Absolutely smashed it, bite after bite, I didn’t want it to end. The best tiramisu I’ve had in a while, possibly ever. Told my bf this is the meal I want anytime he asks “what do you wanna eat?” in the future lol
Il Porto is our go-to pizza and salad place in the neighborhood. Their thin crust pizza is so much better than any of the other places. We also like the meatballs. And great caesar dressing.
Great wood fired pizza Cozy ambience. A+ service Great cocktails
Amazing date night. Jazz was amazing. Drinks, pasta, seafood. Cozy. Nice crowd. Must come.
amazing food, amazing atmosphere definitely come with a date. Live jazz full bar gluten-free menu you won’t be disappointed.
II Porto is one of my favorite restaurants! When purchasing for corporate events, or with my family, they never disappoint. My family and I love the pizza and the panini's. The steak panini is my favorite.
Real italian pizzeria and restaurant. Warm Italian atmosphere. Excellent food and drink with a full bar
The best quality food across multiple dishes, including the pizza of course. Great wine and liquor selection. Family run, so you feel like you are very well attended to in this age of poor customer service. This plays is top notch class, and grilled chicken with fresh mozz and broccoli rabe or the penne alla vodka with chicken or shrimp are my go to. You will also notice on certain days, there is live music to really class things up. Great atmosphere on the weekend. Top notch across all categories. Big foodie, always happy with quality here.
Very nice ambiente. Went here for dinner and they had live music here playing blues. Very attentive staff. Recommended this place also for dates as it is a bit hidden and not overcrowded.
Speedy service, phenomenal customer service, employees make you feel like you’re family & at home. The food is a 20 out of 10, me and my coworkers come here a few times a week every week. Can’t stop coming here even if I try.
I dropped by to get a slice of pizza. I love their grandma’s pizza. It had the right balance soft dough with a crispy base. Eat it while it’s hot and fresh to enjoy the texture. If you love garlic on bread, order the garlic knots. The knots were smothered and overloaded with garlic flavor; perfect pairing with pasta!
Hands down, one of THE BEST Italian restaurants in Bk if not the city, that also happens to serve amazing pizza. I honestly would stop by here for lunch almost everyday while working at Steiner studios. Great customer service, and you can feel the love from this family owned establishment. They take care of their regulars and truly appreciate knowing how much you love their hard work. This is a must if your near the Brooklyn navy yard or in Bk in general. Live music almost every evening is an added plus. Great for groups, dates, and the quick drop in. Plenty of room inside and out. My only advice would be to check out the menu online and order or call in 15 minutes for a sit down before coming in. The location is very popular and the kitchen is busy more often then not. This will save you time and get you eating much sooner then you would if you ordered when you get there. This piece of advice could completely change your experience, especially if you have someplace to be afterward. All in all, 5 stars.
Excellent service, full bar, candle light dinner. We had the red snapper and king del mare (mixed seafood) un real. Home made tiramisu! Get here!
This is my go to spot when in Brooklyn. The dining area has a nice warm feel to it with low lighting giving it that awesome romantic feel. The food here is awesome. I have been here many times before going on 10 years. I moved to Miami but came back to visit. I have to say the food is just as good, as if I never left. To me that’s the true test of a great restaurant. Had the clams oreganato. Leaving me wanting more. And for seafood lovers who never had a seafood pizza, than this is your spot. A thin crusted pizza cooked to perfection with a delicious marinara sauce with clams, mussels, squid and shrimp. I love this place, never had a bad dish yet. Bravo Il Porto, keep up the great work.
Amazing food and service!! A cozy vibe, knowledgeable and personable owner, Mo took such great care of us. A great find!
Absolutely beautiful restaurant. The service was impeccable, and the pizzas were so fresh and perfect. The owner came out and spoke with us for several minutes, giving us the scoop on the history of the place and the process of gathering the freshest ingredients. 10/10 recommended this place. Best I've had in all the five boroughs
love Il Porto in Clinton Hill! The food is fantastic and it's always served hot. The pizza is especially great—it’s my favorite. The place has a nice, friendly vibe. You can't go wrong here!
Love this place. Quiet, intimate and amazing food. Wines are great. Cool wine cellar. Live music and fair pricing. Beautiful out door patio. Will be back!
Love this place. Came here with my family last night and the vibe was super cozy, food was excellent and were treated like regulars. Super!!!
Their margarita pizzas is great! Has great flavor , even the pieces of basil they put on it is delicious. Definitely recommend this pizza place in Brooklyn !
Hidden gen in clinton hill. Fresh pasta. Amazing amostphere, Cool jazz. Great coctails. Great for date night and large parties.
I have eaten here three times so far with the seniors. I made reservations for 12 people each time. We were a party of 12. My takeout order was just the other day, and I had a slice of pizza along with my Shrimp panini and both were fabulous. This was the first time I had their pizza and it was amazing. Toni
The food is delicious and very authentic Italian, and the service was fast and attentive. Also, my server was so so nice! Highly recommend.
A beautiful restaurant with captivating decor, the service was friendly, attentive and just a great birthday dinner ❤️ pizzas were amazing! My favorite was the Al Diabolo and 2nd was the grandma. You can tell the pizza is made with love and pure ingredients. Truly delicious! We will be back again!
Amazing Italian restaurant! The food is absolutely delicious, made with fresh ingredients and full of authentic flavor. The pasta was perfectly cooked, the sauces were rich, and Moe was friendly and welcoming. Cozy atmosphere and great vibes. Definitely a place I’ll be coming back to!
I’ve been coming to Il Porto for 14 years, and it’s hands down the best pizza in New York. I’ve tried nearly everything on the menu—dined in, picked up, even gotten deliveries—but nothing beats a classic cheese slice. Always fresh, perfectly baked, and full of flavor. The neighborhood vibes are amazing too, making every visit feel like home.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A true Clinton Hill gem! This family-owned Italian spot serves amazing food — fresh, authentic, and full of flavor. The pizza and pasta are top-notch, and the owners couldn’t be nicer. Warm, welcoming atmosphere and great service every time. You always leave happy and full!
This place was recommended by a good friend — one of the toughest food critics I know — and Vinny, his sons, and their staff never disappoint. I’ve been here a few times now, and it somehow gets better with each visit. If you’re in the area, this is a great spot for an old-school meal with generous portions, great service, and that authentic Italian style family charm.
Had an amazing dinner tonight at Il Porto Ristorante & Wood Fire Pizza! From the moment I walked in, the service was top-notch warm, friendly, and professional. Everyone made me feel right at home. The food was incredible, especially their famous Grandma slice hands down my favorite of the night. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. They also have a great wine and liquor selection we opened a beautiful bottle that paired perfectly with our meal. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and you can really tell they care about every guest. Highly recommend!
Refined flavors, impeccable service, and an atmosphere that feels both home and welcoming. This isn't just dinner - it's an experience worth savoring. We had the seasonal Fig pie, outstanding! Also their penne Porto dish, Phenomenal. True hidden gem.
If you're searching for an exceptional dining experience in Brooklyn, look no further than Ilporto. This gem of an Italian restaurant captures the essence of authentic Italian cuisine with a warm and welcoming ambiance that sets the stage for a memorable meal. One of the standout dishes is the red snapper, which is simply divine. Cooked to perfection, the fish is incredibly tender and flavorful, showcasing the chef's skill and attention to detail. The combination of fresh ingredients and exquisite seasoning elevates this dish to a whole new level, making it a must-try for seafood lovers. The service at Ilporto is equally delightful, with attentive staff who are genuinely passionate about the menu and eager to share their recommendations. Whether you're enjoying a casual dinner or celebrating a special occasion, Ilporto offers an inviting atmosphere that makes every visit truly special. In a bustling city filled with dining options, Ilporto shines brightly as a top choice for authentic Italian flavors, especially their standout red snapper. Don’t miss out on this culinary treasure in Brooklyn!
I have been enjoying IL PORTO for over 15 years. The taste is always consistent and staff is always friendly. This spot is a total recommendation. I have enjoyed the pizza however the Burger 🍔 and Fries are my FAVORITE. Bread made on premise, burger seasoned and cooked to perfection. Fries 🍟are truffled and are by far the best. Everything about this place is always a great experience.
Il Porto is hands down one of the best restaurants around. From the moment you walk in, the staff makes you feel welcome and taken care of. The atmosphere is cozy, warm, and perfect for either a casual dinner or a special night out. The food is consistently amazing. Their brick oven pizza is cooked to perfection with a crispy crust and fresh toppings, and the pasta dishes are full of flavor with generous portions. You can tell everything is made with high-quality ingredients and a lot of care. The seafood dishes are also excellent and always fresh. Service is quick, attentive, and friendly without ever feeling rushed. Prices are very reasonable for the quality you get. Every visit has been a wonderful experience, and I always look forward to coming back. Highly recommend Il Porto to anyone looking for authentic, delicious Italian food in a welcoming environment.
We went to Saturday jazz night and it was so pleasant. The calamari portion was huge and pizzas were delicious. Can’t wait to come back to try the pastas and salads. Indoor and outdoor seating. Great value for the quality. We made a reservation but saw people walking in and getting seated.
I've had the pleasure of eating here multiple times, and each experience has been fantastic. The pizza at my Il Porto is simply outstanding. Each slice is bursting with flavor, and the crust is perfectly baked—crispy on the outside while remaining fluffy on the inside. Whether you're a fan of classic pepperoni or adventurous gourmet toppings, there's something for everyone. What truly sets Il Porto apart is their commitment to customer satisfaction. There have been times when I needed last-minute orders for launch parties or gatherings, and they always came through for me without a hitch. Their staff is incredibly accommodating, always ready to help with a smile. It's refreshing to find a place that genuinely cares about its customers and goes the extra mile to ensure everything is perfect. Overall, Il Porto is my go-to pizza restaurant. With their delicious offerings, fast service, and helpful team, I can't recommend them enough! If you haven't tried them yet, you're missing out!
This place has very distinctive "home-made" atmosphere and their food tastes as they chef is some old Italian grandmother. The portions are generous and very tasty. Everything from pasta to dessert is homemade. The place has nice outdoor seating as well and live music, which wasn't loud and irritating and add pleasant feeling to overall very nice ambiance. My only complaint is that "Grandmother pie" pizza stated in menu as a thin crust is not a common thickness that you might expect, but rather Grandmother variation of it which probably fly as regular pie in any other pizzeria, but, nevertheless it was very tasty.
Most important thing to take note here is that the portions are huge - we didn’t appreciate that our waitress told us the food would be the right amount even after we asked if we over ordered. The food is delicious though especially the spicy calamari and their pizzas. It’s also difficult to get staff attention during peak meal time, and it doesn’t help they have live music which makes it even more difficult.
Great little place with a nice wine Celler environment. Pizza is good unfortunately not my personal favorite but I think if you like that style it was good.
The pizza here is amazing and filling. Top notch 99% of the time. Their garlic knots are great too. The food is pricey but worth the cost. Friendly guys too. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is their high credit card minimum.
Went during a busy valentine’s day and had a mostly enjoyable time. There was live music,The food was plentiful and prepared fresh… However, the wait times were extremely long. It’s excused given the “holiday” but there was a couple next to us that waited an hour from seating to get their appetizers… I would imagine they probably would not be as happy with the experience as we were. I will gladly go again during a less busier time.
Walked in, they automatically helped us pick a seat and they encouraged us to take pictures or if we wanted our picture taken. The place could use some remodeling, but the Cantina area with the wine bottles was beautiful. Very attentive, the bread is THE BOMB (homemade). The olive oil is good. The eggplant stuffed with mozzarella and ricotta was great. Fried calamari was good. The Gnocchi with tomato sauce and mozzarella was okay, I wasn’t crazy about it, too much basil mixed in. The Margarita pizza was okay but not like CT. The espresso was great. Definitely kid friendliness, non handicap bathroom accessibly if you have a wheelchair and free street parking. Overall, 7.5/10. Everyone has different tastebuds, definitely check them out and take picture in The Cantina.
Great setting. Very lively atmosphere. Had a quick chicken and sausage pizza roll. It was prepared just right and filling. The feel of fresh crust is still lingering. Pictures in the wall and the general ambience took me back to Godfather movie setting of old New York.would like to visit again.
We came here specifically on a Friday to have dinner and watch the live jazz that was advertised on the website, but there was no live music happening, so that was a disappointment. I had a mushroom pasta dish that arrived a good 7 mins after my partners pizza did. The pasta was overcooked and somehow lacked much taste despite the whole garlic cloves in it. I tried a glass of the chianti and it unfortunately was not good. Partners pizza had lemon ricotta, jalapenos, broccoli rabe and garlic on it, which was a weird mixture of flavors. The service was friendly but I wouldn't visit again as there's just better Italian food around.
The gluten-free pasta meal had little to no flavor. I ordered the eggplant pasta with grilled chicken, and asked for the eggplant on the side; it came in a small sauce container. The fresh tomatoes are a nice touch, but the meal tastes like it's missing something. The price without chicken is $22+ and the price with one small grilled chicken breast is $32+.
The pasta was off (rancid oil perhaps?) and the pizza tasted so garlicky that it was nearly inedible.
The tortellini soup was delicious, unfortunately that’s the only part of the entire experience that I enjoyed. It was incredibly crowded, the service was awful. We waited over an hour before we received our food. The table next to us was in after us and out before us, and they only waited twenty minutes for their food. Not to mention the fact that I had to flag down three different people for my check and to get my change back. I don’t think I’d find a reason to go back.
Pizza was simply disgusting. First off I can’t believe this is a brick oven pizza unless they have no clue how to use the oven or it is a propane fueled brick oven. Either way, what makes the pizza inedible is the cheap quality of the ingredients. The Al Diavolo pizza had the taste of cardboard. The cheese was that scary white fake mozzarella. On top pf that, the pizza arrived stone cold despite the driver was very fast, so I wonder if they sold me one of those pizza ready without reheating it. I wish my rating could count more because I tried hundreds of pizzerias (including my native Italy)…. I hope this can help my fellow real Italians not to get mislead by the fake italian name. This is worse italian American at best. Not italian.
It used to be my favorite restaurant in the area where I live and I have so many memories with this place, the food was always great for the right price and atmosphere is very cozy. However yesterday was my last time I been there. They changed for the worst in the year and it is very sad. Starting with their policy of $15 minimum for any card payments is very inconvenient for people who does not use cash at all and want to grab some snack on the go. And the cherry on top - they charged me $22 for 3 slices of margherita pizza with chicken! When the whole pizza in menu is $24 - that is crazy! IL Porto now is not how it used to be and do not deserve even 1 star for ripping off locals. They made a good buck on me once, but lost my business for a long term - very primitive way to operate. Save your time, there is a lot of good places in the area where they will treat you well and you can get a lot more good food for the right price.
Rude management, inexperienced wait staff, and food that barely rises above diner quality. Calling this place a restaurant is generous. It's more like a slice shop with bland hot bar-style plates. I worked in an Italian restaurant for over eight years, and this was nowhere close. First and last visit. Hopefully this helps others avoid the same disappointment.
They completely overbooked the place on Valentine’s Day and pushed our reservation an hour later than we booked. Then when we showed up for our new reserved time, there was a line out the door where the people up front had already been waiting an hour. When I tried to ask someone about an update the staff was rude and wouldn’t even make eye contact with me and wouldn’t answer anyone’s questions. We ended up leaving. Thanks for ruining many people’s nights! Learn to time box better.
