Opinions de Jalsa Brooklyn
We used to be Jalsa regulars. We moved several years ago and I really missed their food. Was in the neighborhood recently and ordered all my old favorites. One bite and the memories of delicious food came flooding back. Their food is amazing. And for the carnivores out there, dont skip on the vegetarian dishes. As a meat lover, I can't get enough of the veggie dishes. They're simply amazing! Hope to be back sooner this time around.
We love Jalsa! The food is always fantastic! We are from India, and have a hard time finding good honest Indian food. There have been many times when we have come here specifically to get the comfort food of home. Plus the community work Nowshin and Anurag do is incredible. They, and this restaurant, do a real service to the community!
I recently hosted a large gathering at JALSA in Brooklyn for 50 people, including 20 children, and the experience was absolutely outstanding! A massive thank you to Naushin (Nowshin Ali), who was instrumental in helping us arrange every detail of the event. She was incredibly accommodating and made the planning process seamless. One of the most impressive parts of our visit was the staff's flexibility; while the restaurant typically closes at 10:00 PM, they graciously extended their hours until midnight just for our group so we could fully enjoy our celebration. The atmosphere was perfect for a large family event—the space is beautiful, unpretentious, and very spacious. The kids had an absolute blast, especially with the serving robot, which was a huge hit and kept them entertained throughout the night. The food was, as always, delicious and authentic, and the service remained top-notch even with such a large crowd. If you are looking for a place in Brooklyn that can handle big groups with warmth and professional care, I cannot recommend JALSA enough. Thank you, Naushin, and the entire JALSA team for making our night so memorable!
Jalsa never misses. The food is always on point and my partner loves that they have South Indian cuisine instead of just the usual North Indian that you find in most American Indian food. We are pretty picky about restaurants in general, but I can’t complain about Jalsa! It’s the only restaurant we go to or order takeout from on repeat.
Quality food served so fresh! I especially loved simran the robot who spoke so nicely when delivering food to the table! I often order for delivery and the staff remembered me from my orders! Home away from home.
Been coming to Jalsa since they were in their first location. Each and every meal, no matter how big or small, is memorable in its own way. Truly spectacular food.
I ordered from Jalsa for the first time yesterday. Great service, order was taken immediately and staff was pleasant. As for the food, The chicken vindaloo didn't taste generic, it was definitely a superior vindaloo. The chicken tikka masala was equally excellent, but what really stood out where the lamb Samosa's, brittle on the outside, moist and succulent and savory on the inside. This places is a place for people who do know how cook the different dishes they serve here but don't feeling like cooking. It's my first ordering but will not be my last time.
Don't sleep on their goat nihari. Instead sleep after you eat it, when the food coma hits. The goat nihari and the winter saag special were both incredible. I'm also so pleased we got the jackfruit kabab because somehow I liked it even more than its lamb counterpart- which was also very good btw. Can't wait to return.
My buddy and I stopped by for dinner last night. He's a vegetarian, so we picked this place because of the abundant vegetarian options. Seriously, there's a looot of options here for vegetarians! The food is relatively cheap too, it's good value for the price. We got the masala dosa (with gunpowder) to split, and for myself I got an order of garlic naan, and the paneer jalfrezi. I will say, we seriously underestimated the size of the dosa! This thing was MASSIVE. Like, it literally was the length of the table 😭. Granted most of it was the thin, crispy shell but still. That being said though, it was delicious! The outer shell was crispy and aromatic, and the potato filling was creamy and smooth. I do wish it was a lot spicier though, for something labeled as "gunpowder" it did not pack the spicy punch I expected. My paneer jalfrezi was also really good. The sauce was tangy and flavorful, with tantalizing aromas from the spices. The creamy paneer melted in my mouth, making for a wonderful medley of textures and aromas when combined with the naan and rice. I would totally recommend Jalsa if you're in the area, especially for vegetarians and vegans! Most of the menu is vegetarian friendly, and the portions are large for the price!
We ordered for the first time from Jalsa, this was for delivery. We had the curry Chicken with yellow rice, garlic naan bread and samosas. It was absolutely delicious, the sauce that the chicken was in was divine. Delivery was quick. And now we plan on going to eat at their restaurant on Coney Island Avenue.
Highly recommended, exceptional for takeout. Am so impressed at how much they have improved over the years. The food has always been very good and flavorful, but now it is really consistently excellent, flavors more pronounced, the use of oil diminished. So so good. In terms of timing, years back, it used to be a comedy of errors, on more than one occasion I waited more than an hour at the restaurant to pick up a meal, not because they were so busy, were just incompetent. Now they always get the orders right, they are well packed, and they are on time. Truly amazing and wonderful to see.
While in NYC on a 25-traveler school trip, we needed a place to have Thanksgiving dinner together. And even though we called the day before, the staff at Jalsa was more than happy to host us. The meal was absolutely fantastic, and the service was just as good. The depth of flavor the dishes possessed were a joy to experience. As the meals came out, the aromas indicated that this would be a meal to remember. The aromas were not wrong. The staff at Jalsa were patient with our students, many of whom are from outside the U.S., and they even arranged for their service robot to deliver a tasty treat and then to sing happy birthday to one of our students for her special day. This was truly an event we’ll remember for a long time to come.
Delicious food! I got the Goat Korma and it was everything I imagined and more. Very delicious, full of flavor, the perfect amount of spice. The naan bread is huge too! I will be honest, a little bit on the pricier side ($25 for goat and naan), but I don’t mind. The lady at the front is extremely nice as well, and I can’t wait to be back to try more from their menu. Here’s a picture of my 70% eaten meal I took to go
Someone had tipped me off to Jalsa while I was speaking with him at the grand opening of Grizzly Coffee on Coney Island Avenue. While I was enjoying my coffee there, I told him that I preferred vegan Indian food. He immediately suggested that I check out Jalsa, which was just a few blocks away from Grizzly. A few weeks later, I met up with my cousin David who has been a vegan for much of his life. Our plan was to have dinner together at Jalsa to see what it was all about. Once we entered this restaurant, I noticed how large it was. We were escorted to our table, which was situated in a spacious room towards the back of the restaurant. Our waiter was also the owner. She was so nice to us and brought us a few sample dishes we had never tried that were complimentary. The menu was divided into three distinct groups: meat-based dishes, vegan dishes, and vegetarian dishes. There were many options for each group which impressed me. We were fortunate to visit during a week day night when it was not too busy, so we had the opportunity to have a nice chat with the owner. She told us that the kitchen uses separate pots and pans for the vegan and non-vegan dishes. She also mentioned that Jalsa is the only Indian restaurant in a neighborhood that has a high population of Pakistani and Bangladeshi people among many other ethnic groups. The vegan dishes we ordered were delicious to the very last bite. After we had finished, she brought us on tour through more of the restaurant. There was a large backyard space with a covered tent that catered to large parties. My cousin David seems to know every Indian restaurant throughout New York City, but not this one, and it's only a 15-minute walk from his home. We both agreed that if it wasn't for that man's suggestion at the cafe, we would never have known about Jalsa, for much of Coney Island Avenue is pockmarked by ugly car mechanic shops and it would easy to miss this place for that reason. I was happy to visit this amazing Indian restaurant and proud that I introduced it my cousin. We are now both hooked and will make a return visit soon.
Great Indian restaurant located in the heart of Brooklyn! Delicious foods representing cuisines from different parts of India, and the wait staff are attentive too. I treated my family here and we tried the goat vindaloo, garlic naan, and chana masala. I’m slightly disappointed that there is no shrimp vindaloo on the menu, though. Otherwise, a superb experience overall that my family and myself enjoyed.
Right off of Coney Island avenue is the best Indian Restaurant south of Prospect Park. The service is outstanding and the food is making my tastebuds dance! I had the kale fritters, the chutneys are delicious! For my main dish I had the Dal Makhani, yellow rice, and butter naan. Great location for families, friends, couples, and singles! Must try JALSA! ☺️
I ordered Paneer Nizami which was very tasty and rich in flavour. I specifically asked them to keep the spice level high, and that was a great call, it had a nice medium-spicy Indian restaurant taste. The only downside was the portion size, which felt a bit small and also they don’t provide rice with it.
Excellent homemade food! The samosas were truly wonderful, and the Korma was exquisite! Though, I didn’t realize that rice did not come with the curry. I just assumed it did because it usually does in other restaurants. Delivery took an exceptionally long time.
Amazing amazing Indian food. The restaurant offered a spacious atmosphere. While the service was a bit slow—there was only one server on duty—we appreciated her friendliness and informative nature. As for the food, we were thoroughly impressed with several dishes, which we found to be standout highlights: the Vegetarian Dahi Puri and Vegetarian Palak Chaat were particularly incredible, followed closely by the Salmon Fish Tikka, Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Garlic Naan. However, I was a bit disappointed with the Jalsa Chicken Dum Biryani, as it turned out to be drier than I had hoped. Would we return? Absolutely!
We have lived in the neighborhood for 6 years and ate at the old restaurant always! And always prefer from Here! Today we got a huge hair in our food and not sauce with our samosa I called and told them as politely as possible that there was a huge hair in our food… the guy didn’t care he said I’ll Let the chef know… I mean I’m sad I will never order from Here again they lost a customer of over 6 years.
Highly highly disappointed! I have never been to an indian restaurant where rice was not included. We are paying $14 for each of the chicken dishes that are already small as is. Nowhere is there an indication when ordering online that rice is not included. Only after we picked up our food did we look on google for a picture of the menu to find out rice is not included. Almost 40$ spent on an incomplete dinner, you can imagine the shock and disappointment on our faces. Over priced, unfair and never again! I would not recommend and suggest you pick another restaurant within the area.
I eat at the restaurant this weekend and was served room temperature mango Lassi. I had pani puri which was okay, plain dosa and lamb vindakoo. I got diaharea later the evening. The food is not fresh! Frozen reheated. The Young waitress, when I asked for my check, she told me to wait as she continued to spread table cloth on another table as if that couldn't wait. All my dishes were left on the table as the waitress walked pass several times. The restaurant is not busy, the service is not good and the food will make you sick. Don't waste your money and time. Not worth it. The sauces are stale..I couldn't finish my dosa.
