Opinions de Java Rijsttafel Brooklyn
Amazing service, they were attentive. The food was delicious, curry was fantastic and rice noodles were tasty. We will be visiting again.
My bf really like the soto He is picky eater but here he really ate everything
First of all, this place is run by its owner, and there’s nothing I value more than that. She is absolutely adorable. The kitchen is full of women — I felt like I was at home. The food is delicious. It feels genuine. The place is simple, and I find beauty in simple details. It’s full of soul. It was an honor for me to sit down and share a meal at that restaurant with one of my dear friends.
Very delicious! Definitely do the tapas - very filling and worth the price. Staff is so attentive and friendly. Every dish was a hit.
Probably my best kept secret for Indo Food compared with the market in Queens. Since this place is closer to home, I’ve always took family and friends here. Does not disappoint. It’s more quaint and I honestly prefer it that way. Love supporting local businesses. You have to try the Nasi Goreng & Gulai Kambing!!!
Their dishes show expertise. The restaurant stays immaculate. The experience satisfies completely. Worth your visit. You experience great care in a relaxed environment. The service was good and fast; and the workers were very friendly and supportive. They put their energy into food quality rather than marketing. The place deserves more praise than I can give.
The food quality explains the price, the staff enhances the experience, and the location is perfect. The dishes taste better with quality ingredients. Staff members provided the standard of service this place is known for. The spot is truly exceptional. This spot consistently impresses.
The rijstaffel was a good deal. You get around 15 dishes for 2 people. Including rice and dessert. The foods were overall delicious. The service from the owner was excellent. She had issue with the gas and also the absent of the waiter but the owner made sure she still served her customers well, while she was unwell. She didnt stop moving around and apologized repeatedly due to delay on the foods. She was also communicative and friendly, I am a pescatarian and she changed one meat menu with tofu. I hope people in the area will have more knowledge of Indonesian foods from this restaurant. I wish all the best for the owner and Java Restaurant.
Every dish reflects careful preparation and quality ingredients. Their warm welcome starts positive experiences. If environment matters to your dining, you'll like this place. Our food wasn't delayed. This spot has universal appeal.
Sister wanted to eat here for her birthday. Ordered the rijsttafel as that allowed us to try tapas version of many of the dishes. Also got the lumpia, cumi goreng, udang goreng, and sage udang. Personally, I enjoyed everything. There were maybe two dishes in the rijsttafel that had too much salt but other than that everything was great and tasty. Was seated right away. And sat outside as the weather was nice. Service was fine as well. Very friendly as well. Wouldn’t mind coming back and ordering the bigger versions of some of the rijsttafel.
The most Authentic Indonesian food you can find in New York! Soto Ayam was spot on. Rijsttafel was a good value for the money with great selection. Enak Sekali ! I’m from Jakarta so I know my food and this restaurant makes me feel like home. Can’t wait to go back to try their Ketoprak!
The food was great, yeah very much! Every single dish has its own story to tell, i could definitely feel the mother’s touch for their own home food. I can’t believe i found out this place just now after 9 years living in Brooklyn. The owner is definitely not into promoting. It’s already been here for quite a time but i still want them to stay even longer. I will come back!
Loved it! The food was terrific, and the staff was so kind and patient. The decoration is simple, but it makes the place cozy. There is some space between the tables, so it felt like we had intimacy. We ordered the rijsttafel, the small dishes for dinner. All the dishes were good in their own merit, and the composition made it fun to try everything. Only the beef was a bit dry, but the lamb made up for it by being tender and delicious. I would go back and try a la carte as well as repeat the rijsttafel.
I tried the rijsttafel with my cousin. I would say it’s a lot of food for 2 people. They serve soto as appetizers and then some corn fritters, gado-gado and pickles. And then came the entree. Its a lot of choices. I would say some of them are really great. But some feels like it needs more spices. Though I do think that sometimes it’s a bit hard to find the ingredients and also having to adjust to American’s palate. They also serve pandan jelly and tea at the end. The decorations was very Indonesian. It reminds me of home. Overall it was a good meal when you miss home.
Family owned and operated, the food is clearly made with love and authentically Javanese. The peanut sauce in the sate and gado-gado was superb. The fried noodles were perfect for the kids. The decor feels like you’ve been transported to the island of Java and the service with Indonesian accents makes you feel connected with the other side of the globe. I haven’t been here in years and so happy I made the trip to Brooklyn to visit them again! Not going to wait years to come back!
The rice table is 15 dishes. It includes soup, salads, appetizer and an array of meat dishes. We sat at a table outside. It was a beautiful evening, the street isn't very busy, perfect ambiance. The service was great. All of the dishes were excellent. The soup had so much flavor. The sauce with the lamb had a touch of cinnamon and was delicious. I've been to many restaurants that offer rice table, most in Netherlands, and Java was one of the best. I don't live in NY but Java will get a return visit next time I'm in NY.
We come to Java all the time for delicious Indonesian food, but this was our first time trying the Rijsttafel and it was incredible! The multi- course meal was so full of flavor, from the opening chicken soup to the EIGHT curries during the main course. The service was sincere and warm. An amazing value considering just how much food is in the experience and what a unique sampling you receive! Truly an unforgettable culinary experience.
My partner is from Jakarta, and she believes this is the MOST AUTHENTIC Indonesian food she has had in America. That should be all you need to know.... And to top it off, the owner is a lovely Indonesian woman who provides great service. And the bang for your buck is impressive - especially recommend the "Indonesian tapas" for 2 deal. Great value.
I came two times so far. I loved it so much the first time that I came here on my birthday. It's really good and it's a HALAL place to eat. Also if you enjoy food that hurts you back, COME HERE. The both times I've come here there weren't many customers so this place is EXTREMELY underrated. I love Thai food so I really wanted to try Indonesian food because of their similar dishes and spices but this place is now in my top favorites, even beating Thai food I've had because I was able to try new dishes I've never had before. Their soups are really good, especially this yellow soup I had with soybean(I'll edit the name in), their chicken satay and corn fritters were really good too, I can't remember but everything I had in these pictures were enjoyed. 11/10 peanut and sambal sauce- the spice in their food was amazing too. I came here a couple months ago so I don't remember the specific foods I ate but everything I ordered was good.
pretty authentic Indonesian restaurant by my standards, and had really delicious food to share with four people. had the sampler which included lots of different meat varieties, and had the tumpia which was a tasty cheesy appetizer, and the soup was very good, and all the sauces were delicious. delicious. I would recommend getting the Garuda drink which is reminiscent of mango lassi. We shared the migoren and fried rice dish, and had lots of food to spare. had a great time and very wonderfully accommodating and friendly staff who helped us through our messy reservations in take photos of the group. highly recommend!
This place has a very friendly and homely feel. It is seemingly the only decent indonesian cuisine kitchen in the area. If you've never experienced Indonesian food and would like to give it a try this is the place to do it. Take my advice and order the tapas (chef tasting menu) which is a combination of 15 plates being served on a warming plate, quite inexpensive, and will easily fill two people. The fried banana dessert is AMAZING!
I was craving some rendang so I gave this place a shot. It was a bit of a let down but the food was ok and very filling. I'm not too familiar with Indonesian cuisine but to me the dish was too watery and not as flavorful as other places I've had rendang. Maybe their other dishes are better.
Food is good. The person serving me was gaslighting me to give tip and took a 29% tip from me. Way too infuriating to not leave a review. I gave her the 20% tip she was asking for and she acted like she didn’t have change to give me back and kept an extra 9%. This is Brooklyn, I don’t tip anywhere and anywhere I go no one expects tip. This is genuinely ridiculous😡
