Favorite Indian food in the Park Slope / Prospect Heights area. Saag paneer is the best around. Chana masala, veggie curry, aloo motor gobi are all great.

I have been to this place a handful of times and the food has been excellent each time! The service is just as good as the food. It is no wonder that this palace has had staying power.

Metered parking in front and local street parking available. The food is delicious (no matter what you eat). I'm a fan of their Tandoori meals. Customer service is great. They treat you like family. I love this place!!!

I got Joy's Special for Paneer Tikka Masala and Lasuni Gobi (crisp cauliflower florets in tomato sauce), and they were AMAZING! Note, paneer tikka masala isn't on the menu, but the lady at the counter said that they could make it for me. The lady also suggested Lasuni Gobi as an appetizer, and I'm so glad that I took her suggestion. So friendly and so delicious. Will be my go-to Indian spot.

Love this place!! This style of Indian restaurant is unique to NYC (think 6th St in the East Village) and not like the Indian places you'll find in Manhattan on Lexington in the 20s or Jackson Heights. The food is excellent, and the prices extremely reasonable. It BYOB. Best dishes include any of the curries (especially the Dansak and Vindaloo on the spicier side), the Malai Kebab, the Bengali Chicken Liver appetizer and the Mango Lassi. Plus, the Bollywood dance videos are always on. The staff is always great. Typically dessert is included, either ice cream, coconut pudding or both! Fun and delicious.

Me and my wife have been coming here since it opened yet missed reviewing it somehow? Great food at a reasonable price, along with crazy Indian pop/music vids to go with it! Five stars all the way!

I know Chef Hassan for many years . Now he opened his own.Great authentic real Indian flavor. AND IT'S UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. Great friendly staff who have a great knowledge of the menu. It's sad Limited seated. But it's worth the wait. Also you still be able to enjoy their food bcos they do deliver. Chef Hassan speaks English, Spanish and indian fluently who can make your dish according to your taste. They have many years of experience in food industry.

Magatawany Soup is delishious. All food comes with cracker/bread thing with three dipping sauces which is very nice. I like the homey atmosphere and down to earth service. Food was good too, big portions amd very reasonable prices.

Service can be a little slow (they do a lot of take-outs) but food is so good. Portion is great too

Food is always consistent and very very good!! The prices are affordable. Tastes differ, but the mango lassie is a must try and so is the coconut 'puree'. Love the Channa saag and saag paneer. Many options for vegetarians.

I went back recently to this place after not going here for over 10yrs and the food is still as awesome and delicious as it was over 10yrs ago. Definitely do yourself the favor and check them out if you're in the neighborhood, you will not be disappointed.

This is my go-to takeout Indian restaurant. Favorites include the chef's special eggplant dish and malai kofta. Have tried a number of dishes at this point (both veg and non-veg). Can't go wrong with anything!

This restaurant has the best Indian food in NYC by far! I enjoy Indian cuisine and find it to be very delicious and fulfilling. One dish in particular that I enjoy from here is the vegetable korma with a side of butter naan; Literally will have your mouth water! The waitress is super friendly as well. Anyone looking to try Indian food need to give this place a shot!

We used Joy Indian Restaurant for our catering and our guests LOVED the food. We had a Bengali wedding and they catered to my mom's specifically Bengali items. Abu, the owner, was extremely professional and accommodating to all our changes. He checked in with our venue and truly created an incredible catering experience for our guests. We loved every dish and I'm super thankful to receive so many compliments for the food. Thank you Abu

OMG that mango drink is fire! Naan is so light and smooth! Spinach souse is so unique and delicious! Also must try the tikka masala! And Prema is the best manager ever, she is so kind and helpful for a person who can’t decide what to eat!

First time going here with friends and I’m throroughly impressed. Greeted with friendly and outgoing staff. The food took a little time waited maybe around an estimated 10-15 min but that’s usual and we did order around 4 plates of food. The food was so good and worth the money. The staff also gave us complementary one scoop of strawberry and mango icecream as a thank you. Not saying they always do this, but they were kind enough to do it for us. Overall, really good Indian food for a low price. Loved it :)

Loved every second and every minute here. Not just because Indian food is one of my favorites but because its authentic and so good. You will get quality food and service here. Cozy spot with a nice vibe. I went with a rather large party and they did everything to accommodate everyone. Food is incredible go experience it for yourself!

Have been going here since they opened and the food has always been very, very good. I think they are one of the best Indian restaurants in the five boroughs. Friendly service and great for take out. BYOB since they don't have a liquor license, or try their lasse instead. Prices are super affordable and portions are generous. I always go home with a doggie bag.

Yeah yeah yeah I know I know there are a few reviews on here from the haters that have you doubting this place. If you listen to them, you'll be playing yourself. iI you're really paranoid, here's what I got. Should you take a date to this place and order these things, may allah make them your spouse and that night your pants removed for a joyous nude dance. Peshwari naan. Bhindi Masala. Baingan Bhuna. Lamb Vindaloo. House special chicken curry. If I had to do it again, I'd probably also get Hyderabadi Bagare Baingan and the Luckhnowi Malai Murgh. The menu isn't that big. I bet those chef specials are absolute bangers. Not to mention, the baingan bhuna was incredible, so I'm down to see what other wildness this place is up to when it comes to my favorite nightshade: the Eggplant.

Joy is probably one of the best Indian restaurants in Brooklyn. The staff is very friendly and service is amazing, the food is always and the flavor is consistent. The Butter chicken is very good, chicken vindaloo is great and has a nice level of spice. The breads are also very good and they have a decent selection, always a must when I'm in Brooklyn.

Eating here was truly a joy. We had the tangy gobi, mattar paneer, and malai kofta - each was mouthwatering and the perfect level of flavor and spice. The food was prepared quickly and our server Prema was wonderful. Overall amazing food, excellent service, and cozy atmosphere - a true hidden gem that everyone must try.

The best authentic Indian food restaurant in New York City. I've had Indian food from quite a few restaurant's in including restaurants in Manhattan. And none has been as flavorful and delicious as the food from Joy! I will definitely be going back and taking some more friends with me. It's a small Restaurant, but pack a huge flavorful punch!

I've been going to this restaurant for almost 15 years with my family and I have always loved the food, atmosphere, and service. I was very saddened to learn that the first owners left the restaurant business due to Covid-19 restrictions. The new owner, Prima, is an extremely lovely person. The menu is new, focusing on North Indian cuisine; it's different but delicious. Please support this small business!

Joy is the best Indian restaurant in Brooklyn by far, maybe even all of New York! They consistently deliver great flavors; especially recommend the chicken or paneer tikka masala. The employees are really great, too. You don’t want to miss it!

We were here today as a group of friends and it was awesome! Delicious authentic indian food reasonably priced. Love ❤️ this Indian restaurant. I’m a huge fan of spicy chicken biryani and chicken vindaloo but I generally like it extremely spicy. This place definitely followed my instructions and made it the way I like it. They were very nice people. The chicken vindaloo had perfect amount of sauce and tasted delicious. Chicken biryani was also amazing. It had sautéed onions on bed of biryani which made it sweet yet spicy and the flavors married well together. Their rice pudding also delivered if you like sweets . Can’t wait to go back there again.

Ordered pickup to go. Staff was nice. 10/10. Food was piping hot by the time I got home 20ish minutes later. Portion size is good for the price. I wasn’t super familiar with Indian food before I ordered & wanted to try a bunch. I got the chicken tikka masala, lamb handi, veg biryanis, garlic and cheese naan, & paratha plain. Very flavorful. I will order again.

Excellent food and customer service. After Grubhub screwed up my order and I had to cancel it, the restaurant agreed to deliver it themselves, even though I live outside of their designated delivery range. I very much appreciated their willingness to help. I hope to eat in person at Joy in the future.

I recently had the chicken biryani at Joy Indian along Flatbush Ave, and it was absolutely delicious! The rice was perfectly cooked and fluffy, the chicken was tender and flavorful, and the spices were perfectly balanced. I would definitely recommend this biryani to anyone looking for a great Indian meal in Brooklyn. The chicken was cooked in a dum style, which means that it was sealed in a pot with the rice and spices and cooked over low heat for a long period of time. This results in a very flavorful and aromatic biryani. The rice was basmati rice, which is a long-grain rice that is perfect for biryani. It cooked up perfectly fluffy and light. The spices were perfectly balanced. There was a good amount of heat, but it wasn't too overwhelming. The flavors of the spices were all perfectly complemented each other. Overall, I would highly recommend the chicken biryani at Joy Indian along Flatbush Ave. It is one of the best biryanis I've had in Brooklyn.

My friend's sister birthday request was for an Indian restaurant. Of course, my usual selection would probably be in the Curry Hill area on the East side but we were in Brooklyn. Prospect Heights to be exact and unfamiliar territory. We found Joy along the busy corridor of Flatbush Ave with lots of happy eaters inside so decided to give Joy a try. The casual restaurant but plain decor was an open room with tables and a small bar in the back. The restaurant was quite full and they politely asked two of the patrons if they would mind moving to a two top table for our group of six. The couple didn't have any issues and we graciously thank them. The menu had the usual selection of popular Indian selections and some that I haven't seen before therefore it is an automatic must try. The table ordered some usual favorites and some new like Samosas to start and Chicken Tikka Masala, Gobi Bhajee, Saag Paneer and Shagoti with lamb. Samosas was crispy without being to oily. Plenty of flavor and a slight heat afterwards. The Tikka Masala was a bit sweeter than I'm use to with a tangy tomato sauce. I always enjoy the Gobi(Cauliflower). I think the standout of the dishes was the Shagoti which the table agreed was very good. It had a slight heat, the lamb was tender and not gamey. The sauce was great not only for mopping but with the rice. The portions we thought was a bit on a smallish side but was still more than adequate for the table. I think if we were a bit hungrier we'd need to add one additional dish. I think when in the area this certainly will satisfy anyone craving Indian cuisine without taking the 5 train to the city. Joy Indian left us happy and ready for some after dinner fun in the neighborhood.

M
Michael Corley

I've always enjoyed Joy's Indian cuisine via takeout but found all my favorite dishes even more enjoyable when my family and I dined there during Mother's Day weekend in 2019. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

I'm constantly afraid I am going to overdose on this place. The food is so good, and it is so cheap. We order from here at least once a week, and go there every couple of weeks. Their chickpea potato and cauliflower is excellent, as is their chicken tikka marsala. The naan is fluffy, light, and chewy... just perfect. Plus, the service is superb. Even the delivery guy who comes is always super friendly. On top of it all, the restaurant is BYOB and there is a great bodega next store that has a huge selection of beers at good prices. Win all around.

Anne Hathaway did not spit in my food.

This batch of Goan Salmon Curry is quite a perfect meal, being mild & lightly savory w/ just a hint of sweetness. I call it a batch because it can be shared between two or more people. Garlic naan 🫓 is the perfect thing to dip into the leftover curry. P.S.: It should also be noted that my interest was piqued for the regional Goa cuisine because of the attractive intelligence of Michelle Fernandes of "Answer in Progress" YouTube fame.

Wonderful food and a great value compared to other places I ate at in the Brooklyn area. The place was neat and staff was friendly. Also enjoyed watch people as they walked by. However, the restaurant was empty so I missed the chatter of people talking. Also, the news was on rather than the traditional music that is so common at a restaurant. Definitely will go back if in Brooklyn and I have a hankering for Indian food.

Chris M

It is all about the food at this local Park Slope Indian restaurant. Simple setting and service. Their delivery and take out orders are insane based on three recent visits i.e. it is probably quicker to dine at the restaurant. Bombay Liver served with "fluffy bread" is a must. Sag Aloo, Masala Dhal, Lamb Vindaloo, Chicken Shagoti, Mixed meat Biryani and Rogonjosh have all proven to be good and consistent although goat has never been available. 5* affordable food, 2* setting.

L
Laney

Food is great! Service and experience is not as much. Joy is my go to pick up Indian in the neighborhood. I wouldn't wait around for delivery.

K
Kristen Degener

We had to get up and walk over to staff several times to get service. They didn't ask how spicy we wanted our food and walked away as soon as we gave our basic order, before we could ask about spice. The food was okay, if I'm being generous.

R
Raida W

I was really craving chana masala so I decided to try this local Indian restaurant which I haven’t eaten from since they changed management several some years back. I found the chana masala to be too spicy and heavy on the tomato. I’m more used to the Pakistani version. My naan looked re-cooked because it was burnt. I won’t go back to Joy but it’s mostly due to personal preference.

Y
Yousaf Ali

Absent service, ok food. The food is not bad compared to many local rivals which is not saying much. It took us an hour to get served and I see 2 main challenges: 1. They don't have any waiters (the manager seems to answer the phone and seat people/serve/pick up tab etc). THe owner needs to decide if he/she wants to run a real eat in restaurant or not. IF yes-stop being so cheap and hire someone.. 2. There is zero atmosphere as it is mostly empty (we went at 730 pm Fri night). Presumably others have figured out that this is a take out joint and not a real place to go and enjoy a meal. Won't be back

This restaurant has been in the neighborhood for some time, I have dinner there and the place is clean and the food is very tasteful. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone of friends and family members. Joy Cox & Monique Hamblin; had dinner here. Trust us, the food is delicious.

Fell way short of my expectations. You see, the last time I was here was about 17years ago. Perhaps a different management then!. I ordered Chicken Tiki Masala, (my usual) the tomato sauce appeared to be from a can, not homemade and too sweet!. The poori wasn't like I'm accustomed to either. It wasn't whitish in color, big like a blow fish and full of hot air until you poke it with a fork. It came nearly deflated, almost flat, brownish and collapsed without our help shortly after it hit the table!. My son had chicken curry with coconut sauce and my wife had grilled cauliflower. All of which were good to therm!. My i add that we didn't want tap water and they brought us 3 bottles of Poland Spring water since they didn't have sparking water. San Peligrino etc. The waiter was nice and cordial but i won't be going back. I guess I'm stuck on the good ol days of finer dining and the absence this devastating pandemic that may very well have had some bearing on my lack luster dining experience

M
My EdibleArts

The service was OK, the flavor of the food isn't bad, we had chicken tandoori but after we almost finish it, I noticed the chicken was not cleaned, all the nasty guts and whats nots that's supposed to be cleaned out was still left in it, also the ice in the mango lassy,my drink hardly had while my boyfriend's had a huge clumped up piece.

E
Exotik

Saag pander was good but my naan bread was burnt and the lamb meat were tough.

D
Divinity's Child

TRASH! The place is not clean enough and the food is microwaved. Mango Lassi was sour in the middle of the drink....Not satisfactory at all.

S
Silvana Goberdhan-Vigle

Very mediocre. Chicken tikka masala tasted of canned tomatoes and not much else, chicken korma lacked flavor as well, sauce seemed watered down.

A
Amrit S

CAUTION: This food is EXTREMELY SWEET. The small cup of raita tasted like it had a full tbsp of sugar in it. I had to spit it out. I'm Indian and this food really did not do it for me at all. If this is your first time trying Indian food and you didn't enjoy it, please give it another try somewhere else. Idk if it's a Gujarati style place (I know Gujarati food is typically sweeter/not my cup of tea), but it wasn't advertised as such. The Gobi appetizer was ok, but not really Indian. (Kind of like a General Tso's cauliflower). The Saag Paneer was literally not edible to me. It tasted like purgatory. Never again.

S
Samawi Photography

At first, the service was great until the food was on the table! I asked if the food was sweet before i ordered and the waiter assured me that none of my order would be sweet as he’d make sure of it. my order was chicken biryani and chicken tikka masala. Looked so good honestly but too sweet for my taste! when i told the waiter he said: no this is not sweet you have to eat it! (voice was above average level). i know what indian food is supposed to taste like and THAT wasn’t even close so i respectfully told him to change it or do something and again no response and was mumbling in Urdu. so my experience was not as good as the food looked.

I use to love this place, but I will not be returning. About 10 years ago i discovered this place and loved it. Use to love the mango lassi, my favorite was the chicken Tikka masala. After the pandemic we went there for my sister's birthday and we were very disappointed everything tasted different, the mango lassi was terrible, we decided never again but I loved this place so much i decided to try again and I was left disappointed again. The mango lassi was sour and left a bad after taste, the paratha was so dry and hard and the chicken Tikka masala tasted like nothing but tomato sauce, not creamy and the chicken was flavorless. Never again.

Food is so bland and all dishes was cooked in same sauce it’s worst food I ever ate … I don’t recommend it to any Indian .. they literally pour red chilli in every dish Just ignore it Indians

Use to be my favorite place...not anymore. It took over an hour to receive my meal, which never got while other patrons came way after and received service and food. No compensation for my time or no direct apology from staff or management.

Uncooked rice in biryani, sub par and tastless curry. First time tasting bad food in NYC. Will never order again. They sent the order with no spoon or fork or paper towels that I ended up eating it with hand and throwing away most of it fearing for the after effects

Rude operator! Ordered food from Seamless and it wasn't being delivered in time. Called them up and the person on the line told me "We didn't get any order from you, get refund from Seamless" in a very rude and unprofessional manner. Will never recommend this place to anyone.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I ordered food at 6:15pm and kept calling to find out where my food was. The guy kept telling me that my food was out for delivery and the guy was on his way. Finally when I called at 8:45pm, they told me that the delivery guy didn't know where my address was, so they cancelled my order. Didn't even bother to call me to let me know. Waited over two hours for this. What a waste of time. Never ordering from here again. They know nothing about customer service.

Although the food was decent, the attitude was unwelcoming. Due to a sudden change of heart, we decided to eat the food we originally ordered as to-go at the restaurant itself. Two bites in, we were told to leave. Didn’t know that eating your own food bought at the same restaurant and savings couple of dishes of cleaning could cost you $20 and an insult.

Worst indian food ever. We couldn’t eat even a quarter of it. My wife and I did a takeout after seeing other reviews. We were expecting the food to be good. But you get surprises when you least expect them and that’s our experience with this restaurant. Naan was undercooked and extremely thick, paneer butter masaala was awful- it had over 50-60 uncooked hard paneer cubes and the curry was pathetic. Samosa still had a lot of oil and was smelling foul, I am pretty sure I was given at least a couple of days old food. I totally hate throwing food but this was beyond what I could tolerate. So all of this food went to trash and we are ordering from somewhere else now. Be careful guys! You might wanna try somewhere else if you crave Indian food.

So, today was my first time ordering from this place and I am not a happy camper. I ordered chicken tikka masala and the chicken was undercooked, chewy and fatty. I'm just really disappointed because I was craving indian food. Oh, would of been better if I hadn't found a hair in my rice. Never ordering from them again.

There was a staple in my dish. Tasty food, but can't trust it anymore :(
