At Olivier Bistro, we serve up classic French bistro fare with a Brooklyn twist, perfect for brunch and dinner in our charming 4th Avenue location. Our small bar is always buzzing with friends and neighbors gathering to share a meal and a glass of wine. We've heard from our customers that our dishes are consistently delicious - think creamy croissants, savory quiches, and rich duck confit. But it's not just the food that sets us apart; our cozy atmosphere, complete with vintage decor and soft lighting, makes you feel like you're in a French village, minus the jet lag.

Opinions de Olivier Bistro Brooklyn
I had a wonderful dining experience at Olivier’s Bistro last night. The food was absolutely delicious, with fresh ingredients and flavorful dishes. I especially enjoyed the risotto, which was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was also very nice, with a French bistro feel that made me feel like I was in Paris. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal in a charming setting.
Great muscles and endive salad. Thank you!
Great food, impeccable service, and they've done a fantastic job with their outdoor seating area. Everything felt safe, and yet the right tone for a relaxing evening dining outdoors. My husband and I stopped by as I was craving dessert (goes with the times) and wanted to grab something to-go so as not to take up a table. They were super sweet and offered us a space to sit down and enjoy it. We ended up having some wine, and their homemade chocolate cake with fresh coconut ice cream was insane (aka: AMAZING). Really lovely people there, highly recommend for a great night out at a neighborhood spot.
The food is absolutely excellent. The staff are very kind and make great recommendations. All the food is perfectly comfortable and honestly divine for the price. The drinks too are delicious, and the staff have fantastic recommendations for pairings. I had a wonderful time here and will be coming back again. Great for meeting up with friends, a casual date night, or a small family outing (if the kids are well behaved.) it’s a very comfortable atmosphere.
The food is impeccable. The oysters are superior, the foie gras, same. Even my daughter’s mini burger was amazing. Cocktails are great. service is wonderful. Atmosphere is very French. I highly recommend this place. We will definitely be back.
Drove from eastern PA to have Easter brunch with son who lives in Brooklyn a 15 min walk away, he had recommended it. Nice little place. Interesting menu, good food, gracious folks working there, good wine, cucumber martinis. Call for reservations, it's not that big.
Me, my husband and our friends had dinner here. It was the first time for all of us and we all enjoyed it. We had oysters, salmon tartar, crispy risotto, Brussels sprouts, hanger steak, and duck and all of it was delicious. French onion soup awesome !!! The drinks where also very good !! I would so come back here again. The waitress was so friendly and amazing. The environment was also very relaxed and welcoming.
If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! From the friendly staff to the impeccable food, Olivier Bistro needs to be on your foodie list. Right in Park Slope, I would definitely recommend the french onion soup. The owner was so nice and accommodating. I cant wait to come back!
This is a cozy gem in Park Slope not to be missed! I lived in Paris for awhile and this charming spot, shepherded with excellence and a personal touch by Olivier himself is my happy place after a stressful week! The French onion soup and beef bourguignon are my favourite meal and better than they ever were in France. A great date night place, and an amazing brunch spot too— my kids rave about the French toast.
This is a small restaurant but don't let the size fool you. There is a nice comfortable bar and the tables are a good size. Service is good. The food is amazing. The dorada is cooked to perfection and no excess oil or butter. The rib eye was tender and well seasoned. The wine sauce, impeccable. Their desserts are the perfect size to end a meal. Love the chocolate molten volcano and the tart tatin. You are fine with any of the desserts offered. It is an amazing spot for any occasion
Our hostess was so kind and also made sure we were comfortable throughout our dining experience. The food was absolutely amazing. The French onion soup was incredible and the Creme brûlée was perfect!
The service was great! I came here on Valentine’s Day and the servers were very helpful when we asked about wine pairings. The atmosphere was friendly and romantically set for the special night! Would definitely come back!
Excellent little restaurant. The menu is small, which is great. The food simple and well done. The service is excellent, unobtrusive yet prompt and diligent. We went for a brunch most recently. I had a simple steak and eggs, which was well seasoned and cooked exactly as ordered. My bloody Mary was appropriately spicy and strong enough to notice. My partner's croque madame was on a generous portion of sourdough and done perfectly without any unnecessary flourishes. The only downside to our meal was the noise. The dining room is very small and one very loud table can dominate the space with noise. That was unfortunately the case on our last visit, but not the fault of the restaurant so much as the fault of the table of primary a school teachers who struggled with using their "inside voices".
Three words: Cote' De Boeuf. Simple, elegant, expertly cooked, great service, approachable wine list. Perfect spot. Eat here now.
Small but charming little neighborhood French cafe. Eggs benedict were delicious, and the sides myu companion and I ordered were generous. I will def return to try the Happy Hour and dinner menus.
Wonderful rack of lamb, best french fries in the neighborhood! Charming and personable service!
Delicious authentic French cuisine. Please don't miss
Great local yummy place that is not to be missed. Highly recommend.
Great food, and great personal service. Awesome brunch spot
The specials were amazing and the ambience A+. Such a great find!
Good food, good service. Moderate prices.
Nice Homey French Bistro where everybody knows your name. ❤️. They have Dollar Oysters 3 days a week, and really good Steak. Staff are friendly and attentive. They have really good French bread and olive oil. FREE❤️
Passed by this cozy place for years and finally had dinner here the other night. I thought the hanger steak was cooked wonderfully. Service was also attentive and thoughtful. Vibes were really nice inside too!
We went here for Thanksgiving. My picky little man ordered pasta with butter, which thank the Lord they had. I got traditional turkey, mashed potatoes, whole beautiful plate. The turkey was so good, my boys ate ate it all! Thank God the green beans were excellent as well. Service exceptional. Recommend happy hour oysters.
Hey, we had a blast at our friend's birthday party there! The food was incredible. Everything we tried was top-notch. And the service was awesome too, everyone was super friendly and helpful. I'm definitely going back again soon!
We had a wonderful brunch at Olivier! Onion soup was just what I needed. Such excellent food!
Olivier Bistro earns every positive comment. This place uses design elements purposefully. The flavors were what you'd typically expect. Olivier Bistro satisfies two needs with quality food and employee service. You'll enjoy dependable quality.
Such delicious dinner. I forgot how excellent their cooking is. Beef bourguignon, steak frites, foie gras, charcuterie, escargot 🐌 all of the suggested wine was absolutely unforgettable. Of course we had to get a desert and the caramelized apples under a scoop of icecream was worth all the extra calories! Must visit!
I love this restaurant!! So cozy and authentically French. Everything is delicious and the people are so warm :)
Our favorite neighborhood spot for brunch and French bistro dinner. Annette and Honario are also excellent and friendly.
Very busy night with lots of excitement! I have the steak with fries which was amazing and perfectly cooked and the french fries are to die! I had the escargot which were sizzling and full of garlic and deliciousness for appetizer and the profiteroles for dessert along with a lovely glass of red wine. The service was amazing and everyone was very friendly. I actually felt like I was in France in a little bistro!
Best place ever! Wonderful French food. Great date night. 1 dollar oysters is a STEAL!
This is a simple and wonderful bistro that serves classic French American cuisine and does so very well. Delicious each time we come!! Thank you!
What a cute spot. We visited for lunch on a Sunday and tried a couple of different dishes, which were all great. The tartine d'Olivier was my favorite. The French toast was a little dry for my taste but my friends loved it so that seems to be a personal preference. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The atmosphere has a typical vintage bistro feel and the restaurant is clean, including the bathroom, which is a must.
Webe been coming here for years and it's always a welcoming and delicious place. The owner is charming and attentive, and always has a good recommendation. The food is authentic French cuisine and we especially like the onion soup, the coq au vin, and whatever the fish of the day is (today happened to be branzino). Don't skip dessert!
Wonderful service and food! Cute little spot and as many others have pointed out, come prepared to use Amex or cash. There is an ATM if needed. Got an intense ginger to drink and the hangar steak frites. Highly recommend. I think i made the wrong choice going shallot sauce over the peppercorn bernaise.
I’ve been coming here for years and absolutely love the food and staff. The food, cocktails, wine, and service are always top notch. Their choux frites is a show-stopper and an absolute must-order. I specially love their steak, it’s always “au point.” Best French option in the Slope, highly recommend!
A visit to Olivier is truly like a little trip to Paris. Such a charming atmosphere and excellent cuisine. The cote de boeuf with frites is not to be missed and the service is always warm and welcoming. A Park Slope gem!
This is my go to for delicious food. Oliver's never disappoints from apps to desserts, cocktails and wines It's welcoming, warm in the winter and great outdoor seating in spring/fall and Summer Staff is amazing and here to make sure you have a wonderful time
Honorio and Annette are absolutely wonderful and have always taken personal care of me and my family. The food is outstanding as well. Very well done low key comfortable place. Perfect for a date night.
LOVE Olivier Bistro! Only wish they were open for lunch weekdays. Food is fresh and delicious. Atmosphere and music are great. Best French toast ever!
Great neighborhood gem with consistently delicious French food. Only (slight) negative is that they only take AMEX and otherwise are cash-only. But this hasn't stopped us from coming back. Glad to have this place closeby.
Good French food with sometimes Italian appetizers at good prices. They have a Happy Hour from 5 to 7pm too.
A lovely little bistro! The food was amazing - with both vegetarian and vegan options (the vegan curry was amazing!). The service was great - so friendly to all and very accommodating to one member of our party in a wheelchair. Would definitely recommend!
I love this little neighborhood restaurant! The food is delicious, the atmosphere cozy, great lighting, no pretension. Had the gnocchi verde and an arugula salad with apples, walnuts and manchego - both delicious. My husband who grew up with a French mother had the Beef Bourgogne and loved it. The little chocolate lava cake with coconut ice cream was the perfect way to end the meal. And Annette is a warm and wonderful host!
What a charming and cozy place! Upon entering you feel like you are in a true french bistro. Every singe dish was delicious and tasteful. Steak tartar - wow! I order it every time I see it on the menu, and this one was one of the best - one can taste the freshness of meat without overpowering sauces. - fried Artichoke - crispy and yummy (without greasy or oily taste to it). And the start of the night was the steak! Holy Shmoley! I This steak was by far one of the best (everyojebin our party agreed with this)! Perfectly done with thin, crispy french fries and terragon sauce -(I am salivating just thinking about it:) Service was absolutely amazing! Our waiter was not only professional but very friendly (that you will hardly find in France😆), he was always there when we needed anything. His recommendations were on point. Do yourself a favor - and go for a nice family dinner or a romantic date - this place will become your favorite low-key restaurant.
The food was soooo good! I really enjoyed oysters, foie gras with apple sauce and steak with fresh fries ❤️wine was also great! The service was also good despite the fact the waiter forgot to give me a fork (but that was Valentine’s Day, there were many people and it was already late, maybe the waiter was tired)
There are several reasons why this neighborhood bistro is much-loved and consistently busy. The food is delicious and reasonably priced; the same is true for the wine; and the glowing ambience gives total Paris bistro. Here, though, the waitstaff are warm and hospitable and they genuinely want you to have a great experience. Me, I love the steak frites. On a recent snow-blown night trudging home from the subway, I saw Olivier’s neon sign beckoning to me through the frozen storm. On the coldest of nights I enjoyed the warmest of welcomes along with perfect steak frites and a glass of Pinot Noir so fresh and delicious it tasted like I was back in Paris. It was a perfect meal.
This is a wonderful small French restaurant. There is a very cozy and homely atmosphere here. Here is a very friendly and cheerful hostess and excellent service! There is very tasty food and no less delicious desserts. The prices are quite reasonable. You should definitely look here and enjoy this indestable atmosphere!
This is a really great French Bistro, where the service was supreme and the regulars were comfortable. The wood metal and glass in this slice of a restaurant created a comfortable vibe. I went early, before the rush, but as people trickled in you can tell this is a great neighborhood spot. The food was incredible! I had onion soup, simple and delicious. And the duck breast was incredible. Perfectly cooked and plated, accompanied with a smear of mashed potatoes, sliced asparagus and mushrooms. I want this to be my local spot! Will always pop in when I am back in the area. Merci
Tried Olivier Bistro for Sunday brunch. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the food was prepared quickly. Everything was tasty, especially the French Toast. However, I was underwhelmed by the French Onion soup. Overall, a good experience. We'll go back for dinner soon.
A simple rustic bistro with a very attentive, friendly staff. The hostess was gracious and the staff were on point with service and suggestions. The escargots were lovely, tender and mild with an exquisite sauce. The choux frites were also very appetizing, with the creative addition of almond slices. The moules-frites marinière, however, were uninspiring - just good enough to be adequate. The frites were truly French, no dispute there - hard to find such authentic French fries. Lastly, for dessert, the tarte-tartin was awful - it really should be removed from the menu. So, would I come here again? Most likely, yes. Overall, it was a decent place with some hit or misses, typical of many places. Also, I have yet to try their boeuf bourguignon...
My folks were visiting and since we are a Franco-American, I wanted to find a nice French restaurant. I chose this place because the menu looked tantalizing, especially the Profiteroles which is my Step-dad's favorite. More on that later. Excellent onion soup, foie gras, mushroom sauce, seared tuna on salade niçoise and drinks. Good chicken with lemon sauce. The veal was a tad tough. The Profiteroles were awful; stale choux pastry, bland ice cream and no warm real chocolate sauce, but a tiny bit of fake syrup from a squeeze bottle. Very very disappointed. My Step-dad ate his to be polite, I didn't and complained about it. The server showed me they only charged me for one, but when I looked at the bill, they only wrote 1 in pen and still charged for 2. Quite dishonest. So is the cash only policy, which I noticed many small French restaurants insist on; not so transparent when it comes to paying taxes back to the community. Despite the above-mentioned negatives, I still give high marks because the place is really lovely, the servers very attentive and most of the food authentic and delicious at affordable prices. $241 for 3 with all the trimmings and many drinks. I'm French and a former chef, so I may have higher expectations that most. Fix the Profiteroles problem!
Solid little french bistro. Well executed breakfast options. Won't go wrong with standbys here. French toast, steak frites, etc. Pate is solid if not mind blowing. Tartin was satisfying (see photo). Service is pleasant, wait staff is actually French. I might even come back in just to see if the escargot is legit.
Olivier Bistro is a French restaurant. It is not German, it is not Brazilian, it is not Peruvian, it is not Spanish, it is not French-Canadian, it is not Mexican, it is not Chinese, it is not Japanese, it is not Italian, it if not Moroccan, it is not any other country’s cruise but French. In case you were curious.
Amazing restaurant. The food is so good and the hostess is very sweet. But they deleted the best item in the menu. Their Coq Au Vin was AMAZING. It didn’t taste like normal bland chicken, it was a next level experience. Seriously, the chicken was the best I’ve ever tasted. The 5th star, and I, will both return when the Coq Au Vin does.
Authentically French food and a nice ambiance. Came for brunch and ordered a croque monsieur, it came open-faced, but all the flavors were there. Side salad was nice and light, just like one you would get with a small entree in Paris. Knocked one star for slower service and price - a bit on the expensive side compared to other restaurants in the area. As for service, they were all very lovely, but I asked for my bill and it took about 20min (plus a reminder) to actually get it and pay. I was not in a rush, hoever something to keep in mind if you are on a tight schedule.
Great little French Bistro in Gowanus. Good place to come have a nice relaxing bistro meal with friends in a cozy atmosphere
A cozy place for brunch with great food. The breakfast platter and hamburger were spot on! Only AMEX or cash accepted unfortunately.
Very good drinks and service. The highlight of the night was the young (10 year old) young lady who was working feverishly to keep everyone happy. It is rare in today’s world to a young person put their head down and “get the job done”. Very refreshing. I applaud you young lady.
Great food and atmosphere. My steak frites was actually served rare as requested - lots of places seem to err on the side of overcooked. Prices are quite high, but so are everyone else's. Only a little disappointing coming from Paris a few weeks ago, where the same meal is 1/3 the price. Welcome to the US in 2026! My only real complaint is that the waiter made us a bit uncomfortable by interrupting every five minutes to refill our water. I appreciate the earnest service, but would strongly prefer a carafe!
Let’s start with the fact that I’m just a year removed from living in Paris and miss it deeper than he sea covers the ocean above. There are special few places for me that transcend local, this is one of those restaurants, I feel like I’m back home in Paris, for even a brief moment. I recommend the escargot for an appetiser and I would like to have tried the fried squid but I picked the fois gras while excellent the matching apple sauce purée was more miss than hit. I have had the steak, duck, and lamb. I recommend them in that order personally, with the steak barely passing the canard. The service is simply devastatingly good and the people as kind as can possibly be. There’s no negatives I have and if you read my other review’s you know that’s rare. UPDATE: Oliver’s: Once a Favorite, Now a Maybe I’ve been a longtime fan of Oliver’s — the ambiance, the French bistro aesthetic, the sense that you’ve stumbled into a little corner of Paris tucked into Brooklyn. But my most recent visit made me question if the magic is fading. 👎 Service: Cold and Defensive Our waitress was… difficult. Dismissive, oddly defensive, and unwilling to take accountability. At one point, she claimed I didn’t get the dessert menu because I had stepped outside to smoke — which I hadn’t. Instead of simply placing the menu on the table like any competent server would, she made it my fault. That kind of interaction just kills the mood. 🫤 Food: Technically Fine, Totally Forgettable Everything was cooked well, sure. But nothing tasted like anything special. Sauces were bland. Seasoning was minimal. No dish stood out. It all felt uninspired, like the chef was following a script but forgot the soul. 💸 Price: $127 — For What? With service that felt icy and food that didn’t deliver, $127 for one person felt absurd. I’ve had better meals at half the price where I was treated like a human being, not an inconvenience. ⸻ I’m hoping this was just an off night. Oliver’s has been great in the past. But the vibe, the food, and the service all missed the mark — and for now, I can’t recommend it the way I used to.
Great neighborhood gem! The food and drinks are fine, not the most amazing food but decently priced and decent quality for the area. The staff have always been very attentive and friendly. I would give it 5 stars if the cocktails were more thoughtfully crafted and if the food menu was a bit more creative! It's a nice little spot and I'll be coming back for the moules- frites and a spritz :)
Great neighborhood spot that’s always delicious and I’ve never had issues getting a table. Love the French feeling surrounds, especially when they throw the windows open in the summer. The hanger steak and duck are always a go to, and salads are delicious. Also love the snails. A favorite on the neighborhood rotation.
Outstanding, very well executed food and great service. The eggs Norwegian were perfectly cooked, solid whites, runny yolk, and the salmon was silky. The croque monsieur bread was fluffy and airy with a great crust. The merguez sandwich was so flavorful. I loved the shoestring fries that came with the sandwich but the potatoes that came with eggs benedict were dry. The profiteroles were disappointing.
Strolling through the neighborhood I passed by and decided to try it out as they had two outside seating spots available. I'm glad that I did! They had a great brunch menu at reasonable prices and was craving a Bloody Mary which they also had. French Bistro, feel and charm, the owner and his little Daughter were on hand to great us and seat us. Server was a charming and friendly young lady. Ordered and received our food in a timely matter. The Bloody Mary was fantastic and not watered down, the Eggs Benedict with Salmon was just right, the egg oozing out with a light cut through it and the Hollandaise Sauce was smooth and not too thick. Came with three Steak Fries with it's own spiced sauce which was an perfect accompaniment and amount. Also had the Croquet on Toast with an egg on top and mixed greens. The toast was a burned on the bottom, but it was still a tasty dish and didn't want to be too picky as we were hungry. Only thing I'd have wished for was to be checked on a bit more for a refill of the drinks (only had one drink each) as we were never asked if we wanted any more to drink (empty glasses). But I guess it was luckily a good thing to pass on as we were satisfied with the meal overall and plan on going back for their Sunday $1 Oysters...
Don’t sit against the wall by the kitchen! The old drinks window from the pandemic is duck taped unsuccessfully and has a breeze. Then the employees started smoking outside the window! I was warmer when I left & walked to the train in the full January wind. Please go to Leopoldi’s hardware and get some caulk & seal that window. And 1oz of cheese on the onion soup is not sufficient but at least it was actually hot.
It didn't seem like the staff really knew what French food should be. The bread was served with olive oil instead of butter. The maraschino cherries used in the drinks were the kind intended for ice cream. The mussels smelled and tasted fishy. And they drowned a very good piece of duck in a flavorless brown sauce.
Be more clear in your offer’s…. Say a solar oyster but it’s only if you buy a plate ? And only it’s possible pay in cash 💰 mmm 🤔 well the food is good .
Visited on 6/27 Look, the food here is 10/10 but it is criminally under staffed to the point that only three FOH employees were working during a packed Friday night (one busser and the other two running around doing everything from hosting, serving, and bartending). This was one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve had in a long time. The owner either needs to step up and work a couple shifts or hire enough people for a functioning restaurant. Also, the hand written bills and only accepting cash and Amex is not nearly as charming as the owner clearly thinks it is.
Quality of the food is poor, everything , menu is way overpriced for this quality. A disgusting bacon (side 3 pieces) $9!!! Sanitary practices of this place are highly questionable. Everything tasted subpar, nothing was outstanding , not even dessert. Would NOT recommend.
Beware. they do not accept VISA or MASTERCARD. Only Amex or cash. Very silly policy. In the US, 86% of credit card purchases are on a VISA or MASTERCARD while 11% of purchases are on an AMEX. Why is this policy in place here? It makes no sense and causes un-do complications for patrons. Data from Statista and Nilson.
The food sucked no doubt about it. It made my stomach hurt too but that’s probably because it was just disgusting and not good food. The waiter was not helpful at all. It was also pretty expensive and probably the worst food I have had in New York. I would rather eat dirt! If you want good food I don’t recommend this place AT ALL, but if you want horrible, bad tasting, sickening, and expensive food, then this is the place for you.
Was informed they only accept Amex once we got our bill, or the option to use their shady ATM that looks like it was purchased from eBay. Mediocre food.
The food was good sucks that the lady that was serving us only ask the tables besides us if everything was ok. Only after an hours she asked that. We waited about 14 mins for someone to come and ask us our order. The table beside us came after and was greeted immediately and was served before us. The food was good though not going to lie. They also don’t say in there about on Google maps that only take cash or Amex.
Loud tense atmosphere. Food was well below par. The beef stew was stringy and tough. The gnocchi were funny tasting and the duck nothing to brag about. The fried artichoke was greasy and tasteless. I dissent from the other positive reviews. The tart tartine had melted ice cream by the time it was served. For our reliance on positive reviews it was a real disappointment and food very pricey.
Such a cute atmosphere with warm and welcoming service. The food was overall under seasoned, the potato leek soup tasted like cream roux and the mashed potatoes tasted like lumpy potatoes without anything added. So disappointed
