I absolutely love this place! It’s my must-visit spot every time I’m in NYC. We ordered fresh oysters, miso soup, a salad with ginger dressing, shrimp tempura, the Love Boat, a tuna roll, and a salmon roll — everything was fantastic. The oysters and sashimi were incredibly fresh, and the ginger dressing added a bright, refreshing touch that perfectly complemented the meal. This restaurant never disappoints! Even my picky-eater kid couldn’t get enough of the shrimp tempura and miso soup. I also love the cozy atmosphere and the beautiful new decor — it makes the dining experience even better.
We love Sapporo so much. As longtime residents of the neighborhood we have been coming at least twice a month for many years. Somehow it just keeps getting better. If you care about quality sushi and a cozy setting, this place is for you. Plus the service and price can’t be beat!
This is a Greenpoints staple it’s been here for at last 25 years and it’s always been excellent!!!! -that’s why it’s still here !! i’ve seen many celebrities drop in for takeout or sit in the backgarden… if you’re here for dinner, you may enjoy free sake……..
Amazing sushi! Everything was super fresh and beautifully presented. The sushi boat looked stunning and tasted even better. Great service and cozy atmosphere, definitely coming back!
I really loved this place! The fish was super fresh and tasty, and the whole vibe of the restaurant was great. The staff were so nice and friendly, which made the experience even better. I’d definitely come back again
Frankie my brother has been making the best sushi in Brooklyn for many years I been going here since 2013. He is the best and always family to me. Thank you always my brother Frankie for the Orange Clam. From your brother Mike Nitty 💯💯💯
★★★★★ Absolutely the best sushi in Greenpoint! Sapporo Ichiban is a true gem on New York’s culinary map! Located at the corner of Manhattan Ave and Nassau Ave, you can feel the special atmosphere as soon as you walk in. The owner, Franke, is passionate about his craft and takes great care of every customer, creating a warm and welcoming ambiance. The ingredients are always fresh, and the presentation is simply outstanding! Every piece of sushi is prepared to perfection, with flavors that blend harmoniously into a true feast for the senses. If you want to experience the authentic taste of sushi, you absolutely must visit Sapporo Ichiban. It’s a magical place that will keep you coming back for more!
Best sushi period. Been coming here over 20 years. I've tried other places but no others ever really come close.
Popped into this quiet neighbourhood Japanese restaurant after a swim and was very pleasantly surprised. Big plates of sushi, thoughtfully put together at a decent price. The deluxe platter was the highlight, featuring some hefty pieces of fresh fish.
Amazingly fresh and portion is big. Definitely a good place for gathering dinner. Love it and highly recommended.
This restaurant is amazing! The fish is super fresh and absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and pleasant, making it a great place to enjoy a meal. On top of that, the staff are extremely friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. Highly recommend!
The best sushi! It’s so fresh and the quality of the fish is always the best. They definitely don’t cheap out on the cuts, they’re huge! The service is amazing and they give free sake with a minimum purchase. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve gotten there and always make a point to go when I’m in town.
The place looks really nice, the chairs are comfy, the servers are fast and friendly, the food tasted really nice and for all I spent it was affordable. Keep in mind that the wasabi here is really spicy compared to other restaurants I've been to.
As a sushi lover, after eating my chirashi bowl delivery I’m upset I haven’t tried this place sooner. Wow it was generous: a real chirashi bowl with LOTS of fish and variety, including o-toro and mackerel. Excellent value and taste. Super fresh. Please keep it up. This was amazing and will be my go-to for sushi cravings. Worth the delivery, which was fast. Bondi, samurai mama, ten-ichi, and mizu have nothing on this joint. It IS a more expensive bowl, comparatively, but for what it is, a very satisfying meal.
Absolutely love Sapporo Ichiban. The food is consistently fresh, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully prepared. The atmosphere is calm, cozy, and welcoming — perfect for a relaxed dinner where you can actually enjoy your conversation. And the Valentine Roll is outstanding. The balance of flavors and textures is spot on, with incredibly fresh fish and just the right touch of sauce. It’s as beautiful as it is delicious. Honestly, this is the only sushi spot I go to — specifically because of the Valentine Roll. It keeps me coming back every time. You can really tell they care about quality and detail. Always such a lovely experience.
#1 Sushi Spot In Brooklyn! The food, service & atmosphere is always consistent. Great experience dining here, it feels like home. Going on 10 Years + as a customer. Haven't been there in years! Always a Terrific experience for indulgence par excellence. The freshest, tastiest fish and extras to start... So glad it's still available for more culinary adventures in the very near future... Who can't resist the complimentary Sake, hot, perfect temperature, naturally so...
The Bedford turned out to be a great stop, and the mac and cheese burger was the highlight of the visit. It was rich, flavorful, and cooked just right, with the mac and cheese adding a creamy texture that made the whole thing stand out. The portion was solid, and the burger came out hot and well assembled, not messy or falling apart. The atmosphere in the restaurant was comfortable and inviting, with quick service and a clean dining area that made the experience even better. It’s a good spot to relax, have a satisfying meal, and try something a little different from the usual burger options.
Oh I like this little cozy place! 😍 Very nice outdoor seating, I’d definitely come back in spring! Very good brunch menue, AMAZING cocktails, professional staff, the dishes came out quickly and the waitress was extremely kind and friendly. The food is delicious, every bite is full of taste. It does not taste like American food at all, more like Italian or French, very tasty, diverse flavors, delicate and sipid
Absolutely incredible brunch spot! Exceeded expectations. We started off with the lemon ricotta pancakes. They were the perfect amount of sweetness and so fluffy. Also ordered the Carolina Pulled Pork Hash, great ratio of potatoes to meat. Pork was tender and not fatty. Eggs were perfectly fried. My favorite was the Truffle Egg toast. A fried egg was buried under fontina cheese on a fluffy roll. If you don’t like truffle, don’t order this because it is alllll truffle and so delicious. The service was fantastic too. Our waitress was a petite, kind woman, forgot to get her name. Would love to come back to try the dinner menu! Update: came back for brunch again and got the breakfast BLT and burrito! BLT was delicious 5⭐️ the burrito was ok. Lacking a little flavor. Also got the lavendar margarita and Bloody Mary😋
This place has better food than people give it credit for and it's a consistent standby in my rotation. They do more than burgers! I had the hanger steak with chimichurri the other day and it was incredible. Their old bay fries are a delight. The grilled cheese and tomato soup is also one of my longstanding faves in the hood. For brunch, the lemon ricotta pancakes were delicious with bruleed apples on top. Yum. Even the vegan kale pesto pasta was shockingly good. I wish it was a bit brighter inside, but for a date night it's really cozy and has a nice ambiance (wood, wrought iron, that kinda vibe)!
This was a delightful discovery! A hidden gem. The cocktail and wine selections were very good, and the prices were reasonable. The food was fresh and delicious. Nothing we had disappointed. The duck confit? Amazing. The lobster ravioli? Divine. The Arugula and Apple salad (sorry no photo of it) was delicious, balanced, and big enough to share as an app for two. Service was attentive, friendly, and professional. Though I live in Queens, this meal is definitely worth a trip. Can't wait to go back
Street parking is available, but limited. Indoor, and outdoor seating are available. Vaccinated Cards are checked here. It has a rustic vibe inside, and more of a casual atmosphere. The staff are both polite, and attentive. I would definitely recommend the Mac & Cheese burger. Unique in it's own way, using the Mac & Cheese as the bun instead of bread. I really enjoyed it. For dessert, the Drunken Cookie is a very good choose. No, it won't make you drunk, but it does come with a syringe of Blueberry alcohol on the side. Couldn't really taste the alchohol, but the taste was amazing overall. The Shrimp Scampi pizza, I got it to go. Even when I heated it up at home, I enjoyed the seafood taste. It's not the best pizza I ever tasted, but it was good. Try it while your there, and enjoy the experience. Overall, great spot for a casual date night.
Small restaurant but very cute. The food is good. The lunch specials are amazing and there are several choices. I had the Shrimp Teriyaki Combo which includes Miso soup, Salad, Rice, Roll and Shumai. It was very tasty. The service is ok. My only complaint is that after the meal was finished, the server didn't bother to ask if we would like dessert. We weren't going to get any but it is the norm to ask. Other than that, I enjoyed the experience.
I ordered out from Sapporo Ichiban because I could not go out. Food came faster than I expected. I went to eat at the place long time ago and other than that I only got deliveries. About the quality of fishes, the price should be lower than this, but I understand the cost of living in Greenpoint, so I look over it. My order was..... - Shoyu Ramen: broth with braised pork belly, egg, shredded, wood-ear mushroom, bamboo shoots and fish cakes. 6/10 - Mixed Seafood Salad: Shrimp, Octopus, Squid, Kani with spring mix. 6/10 - Manhattan Roll: Spicy crunchy salmon roll, tuna, salmon and avocado on top. 6/10 - Tuna Jalapeno Roll: Small 8 pcs 8/10 - Bonzai Tree: Crab avocado, caviar, ebi wrapped with cucumber. 7/10 The score I gave are quality/price/and taste. I can say if you want to eat take out quality sushi in a budget, Sapporo will be another choice that isn't too bad.
Great atmosphere and the food was good. The selection was a bit lacking, but we both found something. The appetizers are a bit pricey, and the burgers could use a bet side than chips, but it was otherwise good.
We got brunch here on a brisk Saturday morning in September. I ordered the grilled cheese which came with a cup of soup. They are very generous with their food and all of us had a hard time eating all of it. Overall a great option.
OMG, the Mac' n cheese burger is delicious. The burger is excellent and filling, and the fries are crispy and well-seasoned. I have no complaints about the food. My friend stated that the shrimp appetizer was good, too, and filling. I gave the service four stars because the waiter who helped us was excellent, but the second waiter who came to cover the bill made us feel rushed and uncomfortable. He looked like he was in a rush and wanted us out.
The atmosphere is impressive, featuring dim lighting and plenty of space that guarantees a comfortable experience for couples. While I personally did not enjoy the music, that is a subjective matter. The service, however, needs improvement. I had to repeatedly ask for several items, and at one point, I received a nearly empty container of pepper flakes. Although the server was friendly, she spent an excessive amount of time chatting with a gentleman at the front instead of checking in with us or other tables. On the other hand, there was another server with curly hair and an average height who was much more engaging and provided excellent service. The food was outstanding—definitely as delicious as it appeared, and I have no complaints on that front. However, our experience started off feeling rushed due to one of the staff members. In summary, the venue is excellent, but there are clear areas that require improvement.
This place was a good little spot to grab some brunch. The food was good, but our server seemed new and was not on her game. She actually dropped coffee on my wife. Thank God she had jeans on and didn't burn her. She was confused a lot with our orders, but thanks to the manager for helping out. But overall, it was ok.
We had no trouble getting a reservation for a party of 7 for Sunday brunch. Service was excellent and the staff were very attentive. I got to try the Mac n Cheese Burger, the Pulled Pork Hash, and the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. The burger was solid and tasted exactly how you would expect it to. Like Mac and cheese with a beef patty. The lemon ricotta pancakes were nice and fluffy but it definitely needed the flavor and sweetness of the syrup. The caramelized apples were just okay, I think other fruits are better suited for pancakes. The pulled pork hash was a little disappointing. It tasted like all the ingredients put together, but without any seasoning. Overall, it was a good experience. The food wasn't amazing, but the novelty of items like the Mac n cheese burger or risotto balls is fun and interesting.
The food was good, the price makes sense. We ordered the Mac N Cheese burger, the beer salad, and the risotto balls. The Mac N Cheese burger was so big! It's extremely dense and served with two patties - it's definitely not hand food. We shared it which was great, and it was very tasty. It's a bit of a novelty though, definitely try it if you're feeling adventurous. The beet salad was one of the best salads I've had in Brooklyn, at least in the modest category. I'm from the west coast where these salads are easier to come by, and this one was so good. The candied walnuts add a nice dimension of flavor. I don't remember eating the risotto balls. So they weren't memorably good or bad. My wife says they were good. The atmosphere was chill and laid back when we went, although it wasn't very busy because it was raining. The vibe is very cozy and the seating is roomy and comfortable.
We had dinner on a Friday night. The food was pretty good. We had the crab dip, fennel and fig pizza, kale salad and ricotta meat balls. All were delicious. The pizza had a great combination of flavor and the crust was thin and good. The dip was a great starting ! The wine pour were great :) ! For dessert we had an apple crumble, it took a bit of time to be served but it was good.
I’ve been coming here over the last 6 years, sometimes have my business meet ups here. It was always an easy go spot- good lunch deals. However I was left pretty disappointed with an experience there. We chose this spot to celebrate my 13year old for his birthday, who loves sushi and wanted fried fish very cream for his birthday. We sat in the garden and ordered a bunch of rolls appetizers and an order of fried rice. Veggie fried rice. The fried rice came when the sushi was just about done, but one bite and it was soooo spicy none of my kids could eat it. I was confused because it’s just fried rice. Turns out it had jalepeños in it. Not a typical ingredients in fried rice and one I would’ve definitely flagged since I cannot eat jalapeños or any pepper for that matter. Not only do I have a nightshade sensitivity. I have a pollen allergy that limits me from eating most fruits. Again something I’ve been able to navigate very well for the past 20 years. When none of the fried rice was eaten on the waitress came over I said we cannot eat it this because it has jalapeños in it it’s really spicy. Can we just get the dessert menu?and her reply was well you should’ve told me beforehand “ i said, but it didn’t list that there was jalapeños. He brings over the menu and she points to small lettering that says list your allergies. And I said I get that and I have lots of allergies too much to list. Whether I’m very careful what I order and I’ve never had fried rice that was made with jalapeños, unless it was a specialty rice and it listed you guys should be listing this unusual ingredient. She replies well we can’t take it off the bill. So I reply I’m not paying for this She goes back I guess to speak to the manager and she comes back and she says well we’ll remake it for you At that point, I’m frustrated. I said I don’t want you to remake it and I don’t want dessert just cancel. I paid I tipped her. And I’m so turned off to go back to the space that are so incredibly petty. I’ve worked in the restaurant industry a long time. My husband is a chef and I’ve never. when I arrived at the restaurant and sat down, they were three other tables every table had carafes with lemon cucumber water and she brings us instead 5 cups of regular tapwater so I said can we have the cucumber lemon water everybody else has. It’s important to know we’re the only obvious Latino family there, everyone else being white and it’s hard to think that this wasn’t a race thing. I was most upset that we went here to celebrate my son’s 13th birthday and we didn’t even get to have dessert and sing happy birthday to him.
This place used to be somewhat welcoming & decent American-French restaurant....however, last visit for a quick dinner was disappointing experience. I ordered a glass of wine and fish & chips. The waitress gave me a tasting of wine, which was nice. Fish was well cooked. But fries were COATED WITH LOTS OF SALT and old bay seasoning. (See the photo) I told the other waitress staff the fries were way too salty and asked if kitchen can make a plain fries. But this wait staff denied, saying "This is the way we cook and serve. Even if you don't like it, and even if we cook again for you, it will be the same fries." So I wanted to talk to the original waitress, but he denied to call her with cynical laugh....at this point, I was done. I asked a check. Right before I paid, she showed up, apologized. She didn't charge for the wine. Also right before I leave, the manager came to me and asked me what happened, also offered some wine or plain fries. But there was no point of getting any other drinks or food from there, as I was ready to leave.
I’m writing this as a paying customer, and I’m honestly upset and disgusted by how this experience was handled. On a Saturday night, myself and two friends stopped in for drinks to catch up. One friend was visiting from out of the country (France). We ordered drinks, spent money, and initially everything seemed fine. When it came time to pay, we assumed gratuity was included, which is common at many bars. After a couple of drinks, we paid the amount listed on the bill. It was an honest mistake. What followed was extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional. Another waitress (white female), not our waiter (short male with ponytail, ethnic background), approached our table on behalf of her colleague and asked if the service was okay because we had not tipped. We immediately and politely apologized, explaining that we believed gratuity was included. We also clearly stated that the tip could absolutely be kept. Despite this, our waiter later returned to the table and dropped the tip back down, even after the misunderstanding had already been addressed. This felt passive-aggressive, awkward, and unnecessary. The entire interaction was strange and rude, turning what should have been a simple clarification into an uncomfortable situation. To be clear, this is not an isolated experience. Every time I have been here and had this same waiter, his service has come across as rude, dismissive, and attitude-driven. This incident only reinforced that pattern. Mistakes happen, especially after a couple of drinks. How staff handle those moments matters. This situation could have been resolved easily and respectfully, but instead it was handled in a way that made paying customers feel embarrassed and unwelcome. Because of this experience, I will not be returning. It appeared as though bias certainly played a factor, and when called out about the situation all involved (staff: Bartender, Female waiter, and Waiter) all played victim. Very disgusted again.
