Opinions de Scalino Brooklyn
We came here for a late lunch/early dinner today for the first time and really happy we chose this. Service was really friendly and attentive and the pasta was absolutely fresh and delicious. Looking forward to returning and trying other dishes.
This is hands-down one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to and I’m not being dramatic and I’m not oversell it. My family and I came to New York for a two day engagement party and on the way back home we stopped at this place and it was the best Italian spot the staff is so welcoming and fun and honest and legitimately the food is off the chain. Best Italian food I’ve ever had and the caliber of food is just 10/10 how this place don’t have 5 stars is crazy and shows you that there’s New Yorkers that are just hating because this place is the best
So I come here often and the first time I came I was in love with the food. I feel like it’s one of Greenpoints hidden gems. And I say it in Jen’s cause I’ve lived here my whole life I ask people oh have you tried so-and-so and so many people that I know directly have never been here. I love the muscles. I don’t get them in the red sauce, I like them in wine and garlic. One of my favorite dishes is the truffle pasta. Literally everything that they will put in front of you is excellently executed. This spot is excellent for a date night. if it’s in the daytime, it’s great for a lunch meeting. It’s great for a family outing to a nice restaurant. It’s warm, it’s personable. The staff is down to earth. I literally feel this may be in my TOP 3 North Brooklyn Spots. Photos to come.
We went here last night as a big group to celebrate my friends birthday. The staff was incredible. The food was amazing, particularly the branzino and pastas. Highly recommend!
Came here to eat around 5PM on a Friday and really enjoyed the welcoming and cozy atmosphere. Not only was the food delicious, but the owner and waitress were very hospitable. As someone who moved away from the city and came back for the holidays, it was very reminiscent of eating at my close friends’ Italian homes for dinner - comforting company and delicious food. Would 100% come back again. Definitely recommend the Branzino - delicious, tender, and light! Beautifully cooked and served.
This place is amazing. It’s under the radar, casual, but very authentic and delicious. I went early at 5:30pm, no one else there and was met with an authentic Italian who waited on us (the owner I assume). We got the endive salad (very fresh), the lasagna (blew my mind) and the classic spaghetti and meatballs (delicious). I’ll be back for sure.
Great spot. very charming and rustic atmosphere. Food is amazing and won’t cost you an arm and a leg. The staff are incredibly friendly and nice. Need to come back to try the rest of their seasonal menu!
The line is out the door at Forma Pasta Factory, and you can just walk straight into this place. I’m selfishly hesitant to write this review and change that, but Scalino GP is legit! The bolognese is one of the best I’ve ever had. Lamb shank absolutely killer. The broccoli rabe was the only thing I wasn’t a fan of but I was in the minority on my table! And the tiramisu, while not as wet as some (the sponge was on the drier side), was still absolutely delicious. Looking forward to coming back!!
While I have barely had a small percentage of their expansive menu, I’m convinced there’s not a single miss in it. Every dish is just better than the last, with quite generous portions. Frankly, ever since trying Scalino I haven’t even thought about going to that other pasta place around the corner. And the service? This is the real “when you’re here, you’re family” the way everyone in there treats you as if they’ve known you forever. The only weird thing about this place is that they give you the menu in an iPad? Not like you can order from the iPad, they just give you one to look at the menu, which is very off-putting but worth to ignore for everything else.
SOOOOOOOOO good! I understand all the hype now. I love how cozy it is, a true mom and pop restaurant through and through. Their dishes are FIRE, all the pastas we tried were amazing (I’d say their gnocchi dish is the best I’ve had in NYC). Beats all the other fancier Italian places I’ve been to. Only problem is it is super popular, so could be super hard or a long wait to get a table, especially during weekends. However it’s worth the wait for sure. Desserts were also very good, especially the panna cotta!
Absolutely loved this cozy little unassuming Italian restaurant. Such a cute vibe and very authentic Italian dishes. I got the bacon and tomato cream pasta which was delicious. We also got the endive salad, an artichoke salad (highly recommend) and the pasta with broccoli rabe and sausage. Good wine selection and it’s low key a Steelers fan bar!
You must try their gnocchi dishes! So fluffy and a perfect bite. it is honestly the best gnocchi I’ve had in my life - i like it with the meat sauce. all of their pasta dishes were delicious. We devoured them so fast. The service here is great. I like how they have a menu with iPads and photos. Definitely one of the most underrated Italian restaurants in town.
Walked in for a table of 4 on a Sunday on a long weekend. Literally taking the time to write this review over our last glass of wine and dessert. I can’t say enough good things. It’s uncrowded, no frills, incredibly attentive staff, makes you feel right at home or better yet at the local trattoria in Italy. Ordering 6 different dishes and everything was perfectly flavorful, cooked well, not a bad thing. Simple but lovely wine list. We’ll be back. Thank you!
Last night was my fiancé and my first time at this lovely establishment, service was amazing the food was delicious. Unfortunately we didn’t have dessert which by the way it also looked just as yummy as the food was, but the portion of food was not what we expected so by the time we finished our dinner we really had no room for dessert. Honestly we were so satisfied with service food and atmosphere that we want to go back and try the dessert before actually eating food.🙂
Very authentic, simple, family style Italian restaurant/trattoria, with a nice selection of colorful, delicious pasta dishes. The salad was tasty and refreshing, maybe I would have just been a little more conservative with the gorgonzola cheese which tasted quite salty. The service was nice, attentive, never invasive, quite cordial, the portions very generous and the prices reasonable. But what really conquered my heart was the olive oil that was brought to me to dunk the bread in. It was probably the strongest, earthiest, intense oil I have had in this country so far, it tasted like if it had just been squeezed out and barely filtered. I simply fell in love with it. If you're around the area and looking for a quick bite, this is definitely the best place.
Ordered the bread with prosciutto and olives as an appetizer, then had the lasagna for my main, along with a glass of Chianti. The appetizer was definitely the highlight, I enjoyed that more than the lasagna. Nothing was bad, just okay overall. I was craving pasta and decided to check it out since it had a lot of good reviews. Solid experience, but not somewhere I feel the need to come back to, though I can see the appeal for others.
Used to like this place and went often.. and thought it was run by good people, but won't be returning because of the way they brushed us off with a very confusing and unsettling interaction. Unfortunately they ripped us off tonight... I think online pricing should reflect (or be higher than) the price you get when walking in or calling for pickup. So I called to do an order instead of through an app, thinking this was also helpful to the restaurant for them to avoid app fees as well. However, when picking up, then charged us 35% more for the order than the price online. When we questioned it, they stated first "those are old prices". Then, only when I challenged them after stating that I could order right now at the lower price through their website, they changed their story to "online pricing is cheaper, order there next time". They also didn't provide an itemized receipt. This just generally makes no sense overall and feels a bit sketchy and made us feel scammed. They could've easily seen the issue and chosen to correct the mistake on their side with a refund of the difference. Instead, they've chosen to lose previously loyal customers.
