Opinions de Takeria 718 Brooklyn
Real homemade corn tortilla, lots of lime slices offered (which we appreciated🥹); it’s self service and you can choose for example, no onions or another option. Salsa and other sauces are available all you can eat. All in all, this is great honest food.
I’m Mexican. Amazing tacos top 3 in nyc. Fresh grilled to order always steaming hot. As for the people who say the menu is confusing very lost here. The options are clearly laid out. They’re tacos…don’t think a detailed description is necessary
These folks invited me in completely randomly during their soft opening as I walked by on the street and offered me free tacos. What they really did was expose me to hands down the best Al Pastor tacos I have ever had. The flavor was unreal, and the folks putting the tacos together so clearly cared deeply about the way it was constructed, right down to the way they applied the toppings. I will be thinking about these tacos for a long time, at least until the next time I get to Greenpoint and can patronize them as an actual customer. Thanks for giving me a food story I’ll tell forever and a taco I’ll never forget!
One of the best tacos in the city I’d say and lucky enough to be close by. Love these damn things!!
I’m originally from California and have been on the hunt for truly great tacos in NYC. After trying countless spots across the city and Brooklyn, this place is hands-down my favorite taco spot! I’ve been twice now, and it just keeps getting better. While I do wish they offered burritos, the tacos more than make up for it—especially the asada and the beef belly, which are both incredible. I also had the pleasure of meeting Antonio today, and his service was amazing. I’ve already been raving about this place to all my friends, and I can’t wait to come back again!
We tried 5 different tacos and everything was so delicious. Definitely worth detour! Its also Michelin recommended restaurant.
Best tacos in town for sure… tripa my favorite! Great and friendly staf
I just died and went to taco Heaven. This classy taco joint has incredible meat filled taco flavor bombs. Their salsa bar had pickled onions and caramelized onions and gorgeous green and spicy red salsa. The owner is from Guanajuato and they must be taco masters. There’s suadero, pastor (they call it trompa), asada steak, tongue, mushroom, and chorizo. You can make anything quesadilla or make it crunchy taco for a dollar. Maybe tripe? I got the pork and the suadero brisket (came with a pineapple slice) and was so impressed. I’m coming back.
El Chato in Brooklyn is by far the best taco spot in the area. Their tacos are amazing, and the sauces are next-level—absolutely incredible! The quality is top-notch, and you can feel the passion in every bite. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the service is friendly. If you’re looking for an unforgettable taco experience in Brooklyn, this is the place to go!
Easy 5 stars for Greenpoint tacos. I definitely prefer this over the other hyped up taquerias in the area if you catch my drift. Not as greasy as the others. All dishes were loaded with meat. Delicious hot sauce and serve yourself pickled veg and roasted peppers & onions. Not sure if he was the owner but whoever greeted us was very helpful in explaining the menu and recommending some dishes. My favorite were the lengua, al pastor and brisket. I’d go back and just get quesadillas and vampiros for everything.
The slow cooked brisket (suadero) is probably one of the best tacos I’ve ever had. The meat literally melts in your mouth. This will be a weekly staple for me. They’re so generous with the toppings too. Don’t sleep on this place. It’s the best taco in New York. So much flavor and tenderness.
Brooklyn is better than yours. The tacos 🌮 and the Quesadillas are excellent, savory and meat 🥩 is tender and full of flavor, I love the salsa verde , the pickled vegetables , and the spicy sauce. The spicy hers is real finally 🙌🙌♥️♥️. The vibes are great and the staff is cool, few seats and great 😌 place. This branch is better than the one in MacDougal street. The best tacos in greenpoint.
Limited tacos but tastes bomb. Can't go wrong with any taco. The fresh accompaniments elevated the taste to another level. Loved every bite of the taco.
My favorite food in the whole world is a street taco at any joint with a line in Mexico City and let me tell you… Taqueria El Chato is NYC’s best imitation yet. I personally think it’s better than the esteemed Taqueria Ramirez. SO SO SO GOOD!!!
Amazing, authentic tacos that are flavorful and packed with meat. Best tacos I've had outside Mexico City. Highly recommend the carne asada where the meat isn't chopped up which I prefer. The pastor was filled with meat. The spicy sauce is spicy so beware.
One of the best tacos I've had in the city, hands down! It's lovely to see molcahetes with freshly made homemade sauces, grilled onions and peppers. I really recommend the salsa, it might scorch a bit on its own but on a taco it adds so much flavor and doesn't burn quite as bad! Fine knife work, quick service, and from what I can tell it's an all Hispanic run business! This place is a gem. It's a small space though, if you get there early you might be able to snag a counter seat or at least a table outside.
Definitely worth trying if you’re in the city. Every taco I got was delicious. They have 8 or so chairs inside and two tables outside which was nice to not have to stand. I think los tacos still edges it out for me slightly (on some meats) partially due to the option of flour tortillas. But this is incredible in its own right and definitely worth trying for the meats you can’t get at Los tacos. I don’t usually like tripe but it was actually my favorite meat I had there. Incredible. Best tacos I’ve had in Brooklyn greenpoint/williamsburg area by far. Also Melvin at the counter is awesome.
The tacos were made perfectly, and the salsa had just the right level of spiciness that I love. Everything was super delicious! Since it was a weekday, it wasn’t too crowded, which made the experience even better. I highly recommend going and trying it!
Wow, these tacos and quesadillas are exquisite! Meat is so flavorful, the tortillas are nice and crunchy, and all the flavors combine beautifully. So happy that this place is delicious and in the neighborhood. Highly recommend to anyone who is craving authentic style Mexican food! And this is coming from a So Cal native that has high standards for Mexican food.
The food is amazing, the quality of the meat is top tier. I recommend getting Chorizo, Al pastor or Carne asada. I got one of each, they were so good that I ordered a second round of tacos. 😉
Best tacos in Brooklyn!!!!!! I can’t tell you guys how much I love coming here. Fresh tacos and great service.
An article said that North Brooklyn has an abundance of taco riches now, and I agree. El Chato is right up there with Taqueria Ramirez. Where Ramirez gets points for simplicity and originality, El Chato's meats are equally delicious and the extra variety here - with some more protein options, plus Vampiro and Quesadilla style - is a strong plus. Vampiro-style - the tortilla fried to a crispy tostada, plus a layer of almost burnt, crispy cheese, all for just $1 more - is decadently, absurdly delicious. I went to Taqueria Ramirez yesterday, and El Chato today, and I feel spoiled by the abundance of taco riches nearby. Highly recommend!
Taqueria El Chato – 5/5 Visited Taqueria El Chato on a rare Monday opening—Cinco de Mayo, no less—and it did not disappoint. This tiny taco shop on 620 Manhattan Ave is already drawing serious buzz, and for good reason. From the same team behind Aldama, El Chato keeps things tight, simple, and absolutely delicious. I tried three tacos—each $5—and all were bursting with flavor despite their smaller size. The standout feature? The tortillas. Made fresh in-house with Masienda corn that’s nixtamalized overnight, they’re firm, chewy, and clearly made with care. Chef Alcarez also makes all the salsas from scratch, layering each taco with flame-charred jalapeños, finely diced pickled onions, and a perfect mix of salsa verde and roja. We got the Trompo (aka al pastor)—marinated pork belly and flank steak; the Suadero—slow-cooked brisket; and the Campechano—brisket with Mexican chorizo. Each taco had its own bold personality but maintained a beautiful balance of fat, acid, and heat. All three were fantastic, but the Suadero might have been my favorite. The space is small and casual, but the food speaks loudly. Easily a top 5 taco spot in Brooklyn. Would absolutely come back and highly recommend it for anyone serious about tacos. 5⭐️ tacos across the board.
This is the real deal. Incredible tacos and one of the best salsa bars I’ve seen. Their menu is constantly rotating so for those who like to try a lot of different tacos this is the place.
This place is amazing and the food is so delicious! Lots of flavor ! The Agua Fresca was so refreshing.

Super quick service and the pastor taco was great! The meat is a little thicker which makes it have a heavy flavor that's awesome. Can't wait to go back and try the mushroom quesadilla.

Hands down the best taqueria I’ve been to in Brooklyn. The lengua tacos were amazing, super tender and full of flavor. The salsas actually have real heat, which I loved. Plus, the staff is really friendly, which makes the whole experience even better. Highly recommend.
If my friends drag me to greenpoint I will stop here before hitting any bar 100% of the time. Every single thing I’ve ordered has been delicious you can’t go wrong, seriously. Great salsa options and roasted peppers for us pepper heads. I literally cannot be in the neighborhood without stopping here. Thanks guys!
We were in the area for a concert at the Warsaw and we needed some quick food nearby. This place did not disappoint. Delicious tacos. They were busy, but the food was quick. They have easily the best chorizo I’ve ever had. The tacos and the quesadilla was sooooo good. A tad pricy but I’m learning that’s just how New York is. If you want good tacos come here and you won’t be disappointed.
I got the chorizo quesadilla and it was genuinely one of the best Mexican dishes I’ve had in the city. The complimentary self serve salsas and grilled veggies were a tasty addition to an already delicious meal

Solid new taco addition to the city. Tried all the tacos but lengua (beef tongue) was the standout - it was tender, juicy, and gelatinous (big fan of that texture). Staff was friendly and helpful. Only critique would be the menu overhead is not user friendly making it kind of unclear what the taco options are, and the seating layout is tricky
Excellent Al Pastor tacos here. Love the flavor on them - super authentic. The food itself was outstanding. As far as the space - it’s pretty tight and really only allows for 7-8 people comfortably and no real space or tables to spill onto the street. The location of the toppings is also odd because you need to step through the line to do it and I was fumbling around other people. I’m also not sure if it’s because they’re new and still working the kinks out, but it took 15-20 minutes to get 4 tacos with only a handful of customers, which was surprising compared to the other BK taco spots in the area. And, like another review noted, the menu is super confusing. I get the branding part of it, but seriously needs to be rethought to be more customer friendly. All that being said - nothing that can’t be fixed! Worth visiting for the tacos themselves, the food is worth your time.
Excellent tacos! We got in on a weekday with no wait right as they opened, within 5-10 minutes the space was packed with dine-in customers and takeaway dashers. The tacos were great, similar enough to the ones I tried in CDMX. I also think the self service ordering is awesome, this way staffs can focus on getting the orders ready. Overall it’s a legit spot and I’d love to come back as long as there is seating.
Tried three tacos: Trompo ($5), Suadero ($5) and Lengua ($6). They were all so good - the juiciness and tenderness of the meat was next level. The addition of the sauce made it even better. These are the kind of tacos I’m expecting to eat when I walk into a taco shop. The only downside is that they’re pretty expensive considering the size (each taco is like 4 bites). The line is long, but that’s expected since the food is great. This is easily a 5/5 for taste but have to give a 4-star factoring for price.
I visited this taqueria 3 times. Menu is a little confusing at first. Great location with lots of foot traffic right next to the subway station. Food: the first and second time I visited they just open so tacos were not great. Small portions. Salsas didn’t have much flavor. My 3rd time they definitely improved Al pastor was the best. Salsas were spicy enough to enjoy with complex flavors. Tripa and steak were very tasty specially with salsa roja. Lengua was amazing with salsa verde. Friendly staff Over all good tacos and good vibes 😎

Photos look better than what they tasted. Oily and falls apart. I am very particular to meats and seasoning and this was just okay I had mushroom / the steak and the tripa. Small space overall / the sides sauces are 5 star . Id give it a try to try it but don’t be surprised if you are disappointed. Staff is friendly huge plus.
As someone who has spent a good portion of my life in Mexico City, I can always appreciate taco shops in nyc that bring me home. In terms of the authenticity of ingredients, this place nails it. However, the authenticity didn’t transfer over to flavor. The suadero lacked seasoning, the salsas tasted a bit strange, I couldn’t eat the chorizo (it tasted like Whole Foods chorizo), and the carne asada wasn’t bad. I’m not happy about the food but the service was welcoming and the vibe was great since they were playing some ranchero.
I tried their Asada, Suadero, and Al Pastor. The best was probably Al Pastor for flavor profile. But overall the meat was overwhelmingly oily! My tortilla was breaking apart even by just lifting it. Also I found it odd that they don’t have seperate sides of just cilantro or onions, instead only offer a mix of both. Some customers just want cilantro or vise versa. Salsas and tortillas are good though. Staff was friendly. Dine in is tight quarters, but its NY haha

Food is decent, the owner is racist and disrespectful. Dropped the n word multiple times as a non black person in front of me (black person). When I spoke up about it in a respectful manner, he just started loudly speaking over me saying "I am sorry you feel that way but-". If you are non mexican or Latino don't waste your time or money, no decency for paying customers comfort in their establishment.
