Consistently excellent. Great sauce. Singer on Sunday was very good.
Me and my family had my birthday dinner here tonite !! Wow such Delicious food, great service and a wonderful singer.will be back.!!
Went today, good service excellent food. My date enjoyed it. Thank you
My favorite Italian restaurant in Bay Ridge. Wow service! Consistent quality, quantity and authentic cuisine.
We go here for Mother's Day every year. The food and the service are wonderful. They have a specific dinner menu with many choices so everyone can find something they like.
We had a Christmas party here in December and the entire experience exceeded all expectations. The whole staff was amazing. We will be having more events here for certain.
Tommaso is the best. His menu is ever changing and he makes traditional Italian food from all over the boot of Italy! Whether he makes Sicilian or Tuscan cuisine, the result is always phenomenal. Don't listen to any negative review, trust me, chances are they aren't Italian. This isn't a cheap date type of place, expect to pay $100+ for 2. It's worth it though. If you are looking for an old school Italian restaurant, this is it!
First time eating there. I was invited to a 90th birthday dinner. The food was amazing from the appetizers to the entres. I would definitely eat there again. And the service was excellent.
Found this place by accident while going to the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights. Great found and welcoming atmosphere! Great old time neighborhood Italian restaurant with live opera singers! A treasure!
The food and service are always good. The restaurant has a pleasant decor reminiscent of home. In all these years, I haven't been disappointed. Give it a try.
The food is very good. Lunch special is $34.00 includes appetizer main dish and dessert and coffee included . Excellent service
Quiet, old world style restaurant. Not many left in Brooklyn. Food was magnificent Fixed price lunch and dinner worth more than they charge. Wait staff excellent.
One of the Best....Italian Brooklyn Style... your meal is cooked fresh upon order ! Great selection, Awesome Staff...Excellent right down to dessert and the Entertainment was a plus!!!
I was there for a family gathering & ALL the food they brought out (including the food that just came with it that we didn't order) was AMAZING (I even tried a piece of what my other family members ordered & all perfect) .. The cappuccino and desserts were amazing (I'm not a fan really of Italian style cheese cake but even that was good and yes I tried all the desserts too lol) we asked for whip cream and they made it fresh and brought out a giant bowl ... Delicious 😋..The only negative, was they didn't have sour mix (for mix drinks I wanted an amaretto sour 😐) and they also didn't have sangria (for us less cultured drinkers lolol) was all good everyone else drank there fancy drinks lolol .. all and all loved it can't wait to go back I'm still full a week later lol
Great food and service, healthy portions could not believe the amount of food! Had penne vodka excellent! Stuffed veal excellent!
By far the best Italian restaurant in Brooklyn. Tom, Louie, Anthony, and Cipri know how to make you feel at home when at Tomasso’s. One of the best wine list in NYC!
Greta old school Italian restaurant. The wine list is superb, I would certainly recommend to anyone who loves wine.
Old school Italian spot, great food, good service nice atmosphere. If you want Italian consider this place, also has a private room in the back if you want to do a larger private party
The best restaurant i ever been !the food is delicious and the service is the best you can find I am impressed!!!if you want a special day to go out thats the right place
Fabulous.....is all you better say about this historic "landmark" Italian Eatery from the Cosa Nostra Days gone-by of the 60's - 70's and 80's or you'll end up right down the street at Scarpaci's!! ;-) Gaspipe, Nino, DeMeo, Carlo, Gallo, Jackie "The Nose" and Big Paulie used to love this place. R.I.P. to my fellow Italian American "Goodfellas."
Good food nice atmosphere friendly service fair prices
Lovely old world atmosphere with surprisingly good food and deep, reasonably priced wine list. Great service.
This place has been open for 1 month and it is Perfect! Food was Great and the service was Amazing…

This place is the best for authentic Italian food and authentic pasta dishes Beats all the bayridge italian restaurants really enjoyed the meal Tommaso should not change anything deserves 5 star at every level. Negative review not true anyone who doesn't appreciate authentic Italian food should stay home.
Great Easter dinner. Along with vegetable soup, antipasto, salmon and dessert, there were two excellent singers who sang opera and standards.
Both the food and service were great not to mention the piano and singer who made the dinner very enjoyable. This is not the place to go for a quick meal. Expect a good to hours for dinner.
excellent food! and excellent service!love the new location.
Nice meal today. 4 1/2 stars but gave 5. Great glass of chianti, delicious bread (but previously frozen), delicious cold antipasto (nice portion and good variety, high quality), above average Veal and super potatoes. Best cheesecake i've eaten in years.
Food was excellent. Definitely try the flounder. Staff was so accommodating. The lemon sorbet was to die for. I could have just eaten that! Will be back for sure
One of the best Italian restaurant in Brooklyn with the great staff. Luis, Anthony and Ramiro.
I love the food, especially the rigatoni pasta with red sauce. The rice balls are very tasty. I recommend eating here
Really great food, excellent service, and perfect lively atmosphere
What a neighborhood gem! Food was great. Atmosphere was awesome. We will be back!
Love this place for all the best reasons. Great, authentic Italian American cuisine. Professional, friendly service in a real gem setting, like a great trip back in time.
This place could not have been any better! The ambience was so unique and so perfect, and the food was delicious, from the free bread to the incredible pastas. Every aspect of this meal was excellent! If we lived closer, we would absolutely be regulars! You can't go wrong with this place!
The food is terrific, especially the fettucine with boars head sauce and the spaghetti bolognese. The red roasted peppers were the best I ever had. The place now has a liquor license as well. Very friendly service and reasonable prices.
One of the most amazing Italian restaurants in New York City! Real authentic homemade style Foods! Great wine assortment as well. I recommend everything except the meatballs unfortunately. Here's the ultimate photo collection of the space and decorations...
In 40 plus years from kid to adult I have never had a bad meal or problem that could not be fixed. I try everything and my staples. The family loves it there. Piano nights are awesome. Kids feel like kings.
When I lived in Bay ridge my uncle's would take me here..I even got to sing a song with my uncle..he would sing there every so often. Besides that the food was so wonderful! Authentic Italian! Miss it so much .I now reside in Portland Oregon.. Still looking for a great place to eat!! Nothing compares..
Tommaso is my go to restaurant for comfort food. I go at least once a week. The staff is great
The food is very delicious and very tasty! The service is very good! There is live music, I think the singer is very good! The dessert is very tasty, I ate the tartufo and it was the best dessert I ever ate!
Took my family with high expectations, and they exceeded those expectations. Each of had the three-course dinner and we all loved it. Loved the stuffed mushrooms, chicken parm, salmon, baked clams. I enjoyed everything. Service was great, too. I will make plans to visit Tommaso every time I return to NYC.
My family and I came here Christmas eve, and everything was amazing! Food was fresh and cooked to perfection, staff was excellent! So very sad to hear they will be closing. We have come here many times and it's always been great. Thank you Tommasso's for many great meals! This is most definitely a loss to our neighborhood.
I just came from a work dinner here. I cannot begin to tell you how delicious everything was. The appetizers fried calamari baked clams, cold, anti pasta, bruschetta with mozzarella all delicious, but the best were the mussels. Oh my Lord the mussels were the best I ever had! Everyone agreed the muscles were out of this world, but that was only for starters the pasta, the entrée dessert wine All delicious! I hear they have music on Saturdays. I will be coming back on a Saturday with my friends so worth it. Service was outstanding just a 10 out of 10 all the way around.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Went there for Carnavale with friends. Not only was the food plenty but it was authentic Italian, & delicious
We love this Brooklyn Gem! Staff is outstanding and food is amazing and always fresh!! We love this place. Must try!!!
The staff were so hospitable and attentive. They made us feel at home. The meatballs were soft and flavorful and the cocktails were great.
Last night, my partner and I took a stroll through Dyker Heights to enjoy the Christmas lights and then visited Tommaso’s afterward. I hadn’t been there in 13 years and was curious to see how the restaurant was doing since Tommaso’s passing. I first met Tommaso in 2012, when I was a baby opera singer hired to perform for guests alongside their beloved pianist, Ray—truly a ray of light. Tommaso himself was unforgettable, for better or worse. A tenor and passionate opera lover, he often sang to his guests during Italian holidays in costume, and especially during Christmas, he would dress as Santa Claus and sing to them. He was also a master in the kitchen, and his dishes carried the unmistakable authenticity of his Italian heritage. I could eat his pasta all night. Today, Tommaso’s legacy lives on thanks to the dedicated staff who worked with him for years and came together to preserve what he built. The restaurant is smaller now, but they saved one of the original murals and proudly display photos of Tommaso throughout the space. They still feature opera singers—some from the original crew and some new—performing on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Most importantly, Tommaso’s recipes are alive and well in the hands of staff and chefs who worked alongside him for over a decade. These dishes aren’t just preserved; they’ve been perfected. The food did not disappoint. The meatballs were heavenly—tender, flavorful, and unforgettable. The arancini were the perfect starter, with a beautiful balance of cheese and rice. The wine was delicious; I began with a Montepulciano, which paired beautifully with my fettuccine with shredded boar. And when I say the pasta was al dente, I mean the best al dente pasta ever—truly unmatched. I’ve lived in Florence and Tuscany, and Tommaso’s put all of that to shame. My partner enjoyed the chicken parmesan (I had a bite—excellent), but I was firmly in pasta heaven. We ended with a traditional ricotta cheesecake, which reminded me what cheesecake is actually supposed to taste like. This evening was a trip down memory lane—reconnecting with familiar faces, remembering those who now live in our hearts, and honoring a legacy that still shines. Tommaso may be gone, but his spirit lives on through his incredible staff. Support this gem of a restaurant. The food is outstanding, and you’ll leave happy, full, and ready for the best sleep of your life after all that wine and pasta. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great recommendation by other family member. I'm giving this a 5 star for a few reasons...Last minute reservations, very accommodating. Saturday night entertainment, a gentleman singing opera along with holiday tunes was a bonus. Music was at a nice volume where you could still have conversation. The Bread and complimentary rice balls on the table were excellent! Ceasar salad, chopped style, fresh croutons, delicious. Steak, fish, chicken & pasta dishes pleased our table. This restaurant reminds you of a local gathering where they all come to eat. Service was very good & very accommodating dishes for a gluten free meal. No room for dessert, but next time in the area, will definitely stop back in!
Came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had a lovely evening! Food was great, service impeccable. Will come back for a more casual lunch or another special evening. Startedwith the fresh mozzarella app, so good we didn't get pics. Got the linguine with white clam sauce, so great, husband got the pork chops with the best tasting sauce we ever had. Ended the meal with an Italian cheesecake. Incredible meal!
Tom and Judy loves the food service and entertainment. We are reserved for Saturday oct 4 2025 Judy’s birthday and retirement
Meal started with delicious cheesy rice balls. Meatballs were soooo tender. Chicken parmigian and carbonara entree were delicious. This will be my new go to - can’t wait to return. Saturday had live music!
Absolutely incredible dining experience. This gem is apparently a transplant of a prior location, but carries with it a series of traditions and recipes that delighted the taste buds of our group of 10. The service was attentive and answered questions about the cuisine, guiding us across a series of Italian classics and family-owned recipes. The food was amazing. Our table had a splash of assorted classics, from a massive, juicy Chicken Parm to flavorful Salmon to succulent pork chops with spicy peppers in brown sauce (pictured). Our entire party loved our meal and the entire experience was hugely positive. On Saturday night there was also live music, which set a fantastic backdrop for our dining experience (without being too loud - just right). We are already talking about our next meet up for another night of outstanding Italian food.
Took my family to dinner there. Food was outstanding and service was awesome. Great wine and deserts. Definitely be back.
Ate at the new Tommaso's this past Thursday. It was so nice to see the staff we had been so familiar with at the original Tommaso's running this establishment. The service was fabulous, the food was excellent with so many of the original choices still in the menu. The bread basket had Il Fornetto bread which was outstanding. The fried calamari, pasta fagioli, the Caesar salad and the filet of sole franchaise were all excellent. Just like the original. The new restaurant has clean lines and is very airy and bright. The service was excellent and friendly. The prices a very reasonable. Looking forward to many more excellent dinners to come. Highly recommend a visit.
I came from the 86th street location, I was so happy they made a new restaurant at 18 Ave. I love eating the shrimp pasta with crab sauce. Very delicious. I brought my kids to eat here. And there was many options for them. The dessert is very tasty, my kids loved it.
Delicious food, great service, and a warm atmosphere! The chicken parmesan was full of flavor, and the rice balls were crispy outside, creamy inside. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the cozy vibe made for a great dining experience. Highly recommend!
Great appettizers, could have stopped there but meal of pasta and chicken parmesan was perfect. Service matched the superb quality of the meal.
Great food with good service. They performed opera as we ate. It might be a little extra for those who want to eat in peace. Had a very uptight waiter though.
Old time Italian restrauant. Good service & excellant food. Music should be updated from 40's stuff. Drove in from Fort Lee well worth the traffic night mare
This local establishment has been here for years. An Italian favorite of many. A little on the pricey side for the location. Some complain too much of a wait for a reservation.
All original staff moved from the original location to the new one. Food is still excellent.
Met up with another couple that we don't see very often. We had a blast just catching up and being amused by the entertainment. Not quite the ideal Saturday night dining out cuisine. More like Tuesday night after work cause mom didn't cook dishes. Nothing was terrible and nothing was outstanding. The 'pork chop' was 2 thin dry everyday chops and my linguini with white clam was disappointing as it was all chopped clam (can?jar?) .. No Fresh Clams were injured for this dish. Garlic pieces larger than clam pieces and the pasta was bloated/overdone. The menu is very limited and it's best for large group wanting a prefixe. That being said, the price for the dishes were not expensive, hence the midweek dinner feel. The drinks were fine...the service just ok...the decor old, old school, and nothing from what I thought i recalled from visiting in the 80's when their veal saltimboca was the best...maybe I was remembering a different place. The singer was very good yet at times sounded like Count Dracula singing italian songs which made for more fun. The apps were good and all in all we had a good time. Very light family oriented atmosphere....just very far from fine cuisine.
Been here twice so far. Service is impeccable. Atmosphere great. Food is good. Some dishes great. We order a wine, it was a bit rancid, they replaced it with no problem and even gave a buy back.
We haven’t had a sit-down at Tommaso on 18th Ave just yet, but their pickup game is top-tier — this was our second time grabbing food, and once again, they delivered perfection to-go! Cheese Ravioli — I had it swimming in their Arrabbiata sauce — and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Arrabbiata means “angry,” but this sauce was the good kind of angry — spicy, hot, and full of flavor. Basically, my tastebuds got yelled at… in the best possible way. 10/10! Calamari — Crispy, fresh, golden perfection. Not greasy, just pure seafood happiness with a squeeze of lemon and dipped in their red sauce. Grilled Chicken Parm — Juicy, cheesy, saucy — they nailed it again. Accompanied with vegetables and potatoes Looking forward to finally sitting down for a meal, but for now, Tommaso’s takeout is making dinner at home feel like a five-star experience.
An Italian restaurant with average food. Slow service and tasteless sauce. Ordered the eggplant parm which wasn't the best I have eaten. The service slow service so wither it was being cooked from the start or just SLOW! The place was very clean and there was plenty of tables. Plenty of seats on a SAT night should tell you something!
Meh! Food is just O.K., seating, in my opinion, was more "cafeteria style" than a classy restaurant. Too much aisle traffic and too bright for an "intimate" type of dinner (low lighting, candles, etc.) you find at other fine establishments. The attraction here (for some) is the 'storied' past and the curious who want to see / say they were here or to hear the owner bellow out a few tunes @ the piano. Whatever!
Now I remember why I haven't been there in a year. Tony couldn't find any clams. His pasta was over cooked. My ravioli sauce came from ragu.
You either love it or hate it. Not your typical Italian restaurant where they give you too much food and it's all just average. It's good food with a unique twist. They have beautiful singers during dinner sometimes, which is a nice touch.
Bland food needs a concerned chef to add some taste. The lamb shank was tasteless mush and grossly overcooked. The meal was served with a small dish of potatoes that matched the blandness of everything else. The baked clam appetizer was so tiny that we all laughed at the 6 miniscule shells on the plate. Not worthy of being on the menu at any restaurant at any price. Nice atmosphere - below average food. This will be my last meal here.
Tomasso, original owner who built the restaurant into an icon, passed away last year. Sadly, the current management, while trading on the original reputation, fails to deliver. We have traveled from hours away to enjoy Tom's cuisine, the new management has effectively dismantled what had been spectacular to a mediocre experience. We won't be back.
Nice Itilian sounding restaurant and even nice looking, but the food is average at best. My Chicken Parm really had no taste, bland sauce and the service was a bit slow. Spent more time here than I would have liked. Sometimes you have a night planed and slow service can really spoil your evening. The place was very clean and there is plenty of seating. Rated "A" by NYC
Service was pretty poor and the food was stale tasting. Very expensive and not very good tasting. The only good thing was the red haired singing lady and the piano player. Other than that, I don't see how they stay open. It's not for the food which was pretty lame.
My brother and I chose this restaurant based upon what I had read about the homeyness and Christmas decorations. Thought it would be fitting after checking out the lights in Christmas dyker Heights. Two tables were finishing up as we arrived. So we were literally the only table having dinner in the restaurant. Waiter did not wear a mask which disturbed me as He’s breathing down at us and given new New York State policy should’ve been wearing a mask. Secondly it took over an hour to get our food. My brother made the mistake of ordering Osso Buco. Someone; either menu or waiter should’ve informed us that it would take over an hour. My brother works in Italian restaurant and even though the waiter said it takes long cook it fresh one cannot cook that dish in an hour. Most restaurants cook it and then either continue cooking it or heat it up. As I was very hungry I asked to have my meal delivered which was short rib Which was good but the presentation was lacking -Basically brown short rib on mashed potatoes. Neither while my brother had his meal or me mine never did the waiter come over to ask if everything was OK. We were the only people in the restaurant?! Do one and done!
Not your average Italian food. Things like stuffed mushrooms and mozzarella en corozza are violated to a degree that I didn't care for much. Cheese texture inside the ravioli (served with meatballs) is dry and grainy, couldn't finish them. The meatballs they come with are NO BETTER, reminded me of Chef Boyardee meatballs. Please do yourself a favor and don't order the escargot! Those absolutely need to be left to the French! They were huge and tough to chew! BF had a braised meat that was served with potatoes and broccoli rabe, which wasn't too bad. What I DID LOVE was the bread served in the beginning of the meal, with a parsley and olive oil spread and their tiramisu, YUM!! Service was not that great. Our server was on his phone 70% of the time he should have been serving and checking in on us. Totally disrespectful and unprofessional. BF I think it's a glutton for punishment because he wants to give this place another try someday. I'm not sure I'll be joining him. Well..... maybe just for the bread and Tiramisu, wink!
I was recommended this as an old Italian restaurant with good foodand good atmosphere. There were 3 of us having dinner on a Wednesday night. The restaurant was empty: 3 tables including ours. We all ordered different appetizers, different main dishes and different desserts. All food was bland: nothing special, not very tasty. Good service is the only good thing I can say. Very disappointing.
We dined here this afternoon. The wait staff are NOT friendly, nor warm whatsoever. We didn't have a reservation and the man who greeted us at the door who was dressed like he worked on a farm had an issue with that, but since it was early and the place was empty they seated us. I almost walked and all things considered I wish I had. The restaurant was clean and they do have cloth napkins and table cloths. The tableware was old and scratched and the table wasn't prepared correctly for dining. I had to get up and get a bread dish and salt from the wait station. No one was available to help.I ordered Pellegrino water and asked for wine glasses, but the stoic waiter completely ignored that request. He opened out bottle and poured it into these glass tumblers in a very rushed manner. Very sloppy. We ordered from the holiday menu since it is Easter Sunday and it cost $38 PP for four courses. The soup was served and although it was tasty, it was served at a temperature that ruined the experience out of the gate. I despise cold food and this was unfortunate. The bread was delicious, served hot with a generous portion of butter. The young lady who dropped the bread at our table was about the only ray of sunshine service wise. We ordered an appetizer of calamari Fritta and I must say it was served appropriately hot. My wife had the pasta and it came out hot as well. I ordered the antipasto and it was decent. Nothing to brag on, but not bad. Then the main course came. I had the American leg of lamb and it was awful. No flavor, overcooked and underwhelming with regard to presentation. The lamb was cold. The potatoes were cold and sliced like steak fries but they were baked and crisp, just not served hot and that's a big fail. My wife's food was served with nicer presentation, but still, nothing special at all. We finished our meal and chose our dessert. My wife had the chocolate mousse which was delicious and I had the cheesecake which was honestly some of the best cheesecake I've ever had. We ordered coffee and a latte with our desserts. The latte wasn't anything special, just ordinary. Overall, I would steer clear of this establishment. There are many other Italiano Ristorante in NYC. Find somewhere else to eat. I'm sure the food will taste better and the service couldn't possibly get any worse than this place. Unless they bite. Ok, be at peace and bon appetite!
Disappointed. Veal parm ends were Burnt. Spaghetti was good. Rice balls good but bland. Meatballs horrible. Too soft. Will try again in case it was an off day
Nothing special- menu was a standard pizza parlor joint. Veal , chicken cutlet ect ect. Wife seen review but should have gone to our regulars.
The prefix dinner at $29.99 was very disappointing the portions were tiny and the food was awful no pasta with the main course the cheesecake was skimpy and the coffee wad not included.I would not eat there agaib and wouldn't recommend it to my worae enemy
Went to Tommaso's a few days ago. I have to say the food is terrible. It was like having left overs at home reheated. The food came burnt and over cooked. Not freshly cooked. Didn't make me sick but the quality was not good at all. I wont be going back. I am surprised they have been in business as long as they have with the quality of the food!
I had the displeasure of being turned away by this overpriced eatery here on Easter Day 2015. I had called ahead and asked if I needed reservations, they said yes but if I came right away they could seat me and my family. Well, I was there in 5 min being so close by. When I went in, they told me to ask the owner, whose is usually at the small bar in front if I could be seated. Mind you, I've seen this guy a few times and I've always said hello and was always polite to him. He looks at me like a total stranger and says "Hey you know, it's Easter everyone in here has reservations. I can't do anything for you, sorry." Well I walked out in disbelief and embarrassment in front of my family. I don't think a person who's been a long time customer should be treated that way. Guess he didn't want the business, he must be doing pretty well to turn people away! Unfortunately for Tommaso, this place has lost me, my family, friends and co-workers as customers! What a shame!
**BEWARE**... Here is my story...Coming from Long Island I had a reservation at 7:30pm. Due to the holiday there was a lot of traffic and I was running a little late. I called at 7:25 pm and spoke to the owner. I told him I would be there at 7:45pm and if it was a problem to let me know because I would make a reservation at a different place. The owner said "No problem we will see you when you get here". I showed up at 7:45pm like discussed and he told me "we passed you on the reservation and it will be an hour wait". I reminded him that I spoke to him 20 minutes ago and he told me "be on time and find a place that suits your personality". I could not believe I was spoken to like this! This is NOT a classy establishment and the owner is not a nice person and was NOT accommodating. PLEASE BEWARE!!
My friend wanted the price fixed Easter dinner that was offered. Her lamb was tough and my pasta had hair in the sauce. Paid for the wine left and went home and cooked my own Easter dinner!
Mediocre food. Outrageous prices charged for alcohol. Disappointing. A small glass of vodka soda with ice was bilked at $27! No drink menu provided when asked
Very disappointed. Ordered the sea food salad, no taste even after drowning it in squeezed lemon. Worse seafood salad I’ve ever had. Calamari was ok. Standard Penne Vodka was mid. Felt like jar sauced with peas and mushrooms. Can’t imagine this being fresh. We had free bread served to the table. Tbh probably the best meal we ate. Felt very similar to the supermarket bread down the block. They had live music which brings the rating to a 1.5, but taste wise, very below anything middle ground. I was happy to see an 18th ave Italian restaurant, but I’m sorry, it was just… super bland food. I think I would have been better off eating at Olive Garden.
Food was awful. Cold antipasto only had a piece of cheese. Not authentic Italian food. Panna Cotton was not authentic, they use budino. Will not be going back.
I came with my 6 year old son. We stand at the front desk more than 5 minutes no one comes to serve us. There are plenty of seats. Waiters are chatting each other. Completely ignoring us. Then we leave the restaurant. Very bad experience.
I’m so disappointed. I had come to this restaurant years ago when Mr Tommaso was the chef. Back then, the experience was curated and the food was authentic. I’m back today and just feel like I wasted my money. I’m Italian , the one in this photo is NOT a carbonara. I promise you. Bad and slow service. Dirty table clothes. Every item we ordered is hot Italian food. So disappointing.
