Opinions de Wheated Brooklyn
Wheated probably takes the crown for some of the best specialty pizzas in Brooklyn. We absolutely loved our dinner here. The space has a fast, lively energy that makes it feel like you’re in on a neighborhood favorite, and the food completely lives up to the buzz. One of the coolest touches is that every pizza is named after a Brooklyn neighborhood, which makes the menu fun to explore. I ordered the Flatbush and it honestly surprised me in the best way. I had never tried eggplant on pizza before, but it worked incredibly well. It added a rich, savory depth without feeling heavy, and the crust had that perfect balance of chewy and crisp. The cocktails were also a pleasant surprise. It’s not always expected at a pizza spot, but they were thoughtfully made and paired perfectly with the meal. Everything about Wheated just clicked, from the energy of the room to the quality of the food. This is the kind of place you leave already planning what you’ll order next time. I cannot wait to come back. 🍕🔥
I just moved over to the Flatbush area from the city and I was looking for a solid local pizza spot you can dine it at. This is the one! Been twice and both times the pizza was phenomenal (top 10 in all of NYC good). The atmosphere and ambiance is great and it is good for families or just a date night. I highly recommend this spot and I will become a regular soon!
We popped in and it was busy. Luckily they had 3 seats at the bar. 10/10 would recommend. We got 2 12" pizzas and it was perfect for 3 people. We took home a few slices. Both pizzas were delicious. The ceasar salad was also outstanding
My son is GF so he ate before I did here. Came just after 5 so the dining area was packed! But... they allowed me, my son, and my daughter to enjoy dinner at the bar. You guys were awesome and entertaining while my kids poked at the salad and stole the cherry from my Manhattan lol. Arugula salad was nice and the Pizza, even better! Added onion and mushrooms to the Bay Ridge that I ordered and tried with the spicy crunch added. Gave great recommendations and we're really attentive. Thank you for this great meal! I'll be back when I can!
WOW, WOW, WOW! I know that Michelin has their three stars, well I give Wheated my three wows for the triple wow experience I had there last night. Every person serving us was exceedingly talented at what they did and extremely personal in the way they treated us. Every moment, even in the waiting, was a beautiful experience; and the food and cocktails went far beyond our expectations, every ingredient, every morsal curated for the best possible taste, texture, and consistency. I say WOW, WOW, WOW!
Great drinks fantabulous service and such good pizza. Arugula salad was unbelievably delicious. Its defo poppin but worth the wait. Ask server for theyre homeade pizza sesame topping
Picked-up dinner but I want to come back to eat-in. Their bar counter overlooks their wide selection of bourbons and whiskeys in a cozy wood-covered interior. I did not order dinner myself but apparently you need to reserve spots for pick-up so the food is hot. Not 100% sure, but be prepared. Pizza was excellent - I think we had plain (Bensonhurst) and Sunset Park. Caesar salad very good, too - anchovies in the sauce but no one minded. Nice combo for a get-together. Highly recommend!
One of the best pizzas I've ever had, certainly the best pizza in the neighborhood. Their selection of specialty pies is interesting, but the underlying elements, the sauce, the dough, the cheese, the toppings, they're all top notch. The bar is terrific, they make amazing cocktails, great beer selection, and the staff are delightful.
Not sure how I haven’t rated sooner, we absolutely love this place. The pizza is always incredible, the meatballs are definitely a sleeper hit on the apps. But last night we were there and the Bay Ridge (a vodka pie) was just out of this world, better than any of the other times I’ve had it (and it’s one of my regulars). So happy to have such a wonderful and special restaurant in the neighborhood. If you’re looking to come, no reservations (except for 5pm), all guests must be there to be seated, and there isn’t a large dining space so larger parties might wait. In the better weather, they also have a wonderful backyard set up.
I'd like to open with an apology to the host on 11/15 for my rudeness. I walked out in frustration because this is the third or fourth time I've planned my entire day around showing up the minute they open, weekend or weekday, and was simply unable to get in. The pizza is truly some of the best in NYC, the staff & service are incredible, the owner is a super nice, down to earth guy. If you are coming from an article or review, making rounds of the best pies in NYC, etc, you will have an excellent experience. This review is a love letter and also a letter of mourning. It was hard to get a table before the NYT article, but now I feel it's no longer somewhere I could plan to take a date or celebrate an occasion without risking disappointment.
We have been going to Wheated almost for 3 years and it never disappoints. It’s one of those places where they truly care about their customers. Craig, one of the servers is so warm and welcoming - even when it gets super busy he somehow manages to ensure everyone is taken care of. We typically stick to the Bensonhurst (Margarita) or the Bay Ridge (Vodka). However we have really enjoyed venturing into new territories with the East Williamsburg (white mushroom) and surprisingly delicious the New Haven white onion and potato. Chocolate cake and meatballs are also the best I’ve ever had. This is one of those places that focuses on quality in everything they do. We love it so much and felt it was time to sing their praises.
From the moment we walked in, we knew this would be something special. The pizzas were absolutely phenomenal. The arugula pie was fresh and perfectly balanced, the classic Margherita was full of bold flavor, and the meatballs? Out of this world. Light, tender, and drenched in a sauce we couldn’t stop dipping into. But what truly tied the entire experience together was Cesar. He was the glue that made everything feel easy, fun, and smooth. His warmth, attention, and vibe elevated the entire night. It was our first time here, and thanks to him and the outstanding food, it absolutely won’t be the last. This spot has officially become our go-to. Thank you for an amazing first visit. We’ll be back soon.
I ordered 2 pies to go: New Haven white onion and potato and the Coney Island. The New Haven is a new pizza on their menu and it’s a good one. Subtle in flavor but oh so good, the potatoes are sliced super thin, barely noticeable really and it is loaded with onions to give it a nice sweet flavor. There are sprigs of rosemary to add to the beautiful flavor of the pie. Deliciousness in a bite is all I can say. The Coney Island is their famous pineapple and chorizo pie. It’s the opposite of the New Haven. Big strong flavors dictate this pie and all in the right way. Super happy that there are leftovers, I will have 2 slices for lunch. I love day old pizza. I bought 2 slices of chocolate cake, not for me but for my daughter and her husband, it was her birthday. The chocolate cake is really good! I was hoping a coconut cake would be on their menu, not yet. This pizza spot is gem for in house dinning or take out, to enjoy while watching the hockey playoffs!
Gem of a restaurant! Truly some of my favorite pizza in NYC after 10 years of living here. I've been a few times now and they always live up to my hopes. Excellent pizza in a few different styles with great topping options, and very friendly service in a cozy atmosphere. They also have a few under-the-radar items which are excellent, including the biscuits/bagels - some of the best I've had in NYC! The steakhouse bacon is great too.
Busy neighborhood spot. The service is great . The host is warm, pleasant, and very accommodating . The service was also on point . Ordered a Manhattan. It definitely was nothing short of spot on and a perfect start to the meal. Meatballs were good . I really enjoyed the scoop of ricotta that tops the dish. The vodka pie didn't disappoint. The sauce was nice . Really appreciated the service .
Pizza and cocktails were both delicious. Staff was really friendly but it was a little disappointing that no mention of the hot oil or honey were made. The place also gets super busy. Would love a beef option. All of their meat option is pork. Overall definitely worth it to try it and I would go back.
Love the aesthetics! The bathroom door blending into the wall is cool! I don’t remember that last time I was here to dine-in but that was a while ago. I’ve done both take-out & dine-in here. There were a couple tables available but they do fill up fast! I found a seat by the bar right away! I ordered a drink while I waited I don’t remember the name but it was good. The Pizza came after like 15min or so it wasn’t a long wait. I was really happy with its presentation, flavor & texture etc… The cheese was perfectly melted, the crust was crispy & sauce was great! They definitely didn’t disappoint & piled high the toppings for the supreme part of the pie. I would definitely get the supreme again though next time I wanna try a white pie maybe the New Haven rosemary potato pie sounds good as a next try. I would also highly recommend the Flatbush for all the Eggplant lovers out there! The service was good, the staff was attentive to my needs & were friendly.
The hot sopressata pie was good but it was really the vodka pie that blew me away. Their crust is definitely something special. Caesar salad was also a standout of the meal. Wonderful service. Came with friends on a Friday evening and it took about 35 mins for us to be seated for a party of 5, not too bad! Place was packed and busy with people dining in and picking up takeaway, but the food came out quite quickly — I was impressed!
The setup at Wheated is the classic neighborhood spot—bar up front, tables in back, open kitchen so you can watch your pizza go into the oven. It's cozy without trying too hard, and the vibe is welcoming whether you're here for a quick slice or settling in with drinks. Wheated nails the thing that matters most: the crust. They make it with sourdough starter instead of commercial yeast. There's this tanginess and depth you don't get elsewhere, plus it's got the perfect crispy-yet-chewy texture that holds up all the way through. All the pizzas are named after Brooklyn neighborhoods. That doesn't really tell you what's on them, but that's part of the fun. The Brighton Beach is my perhaps my favorite: bacon, garlic, black pepper, mozzarella. It's essentially carbonara pizza and it works perfectly. The bacon gets crispy, the pepper cuts through, and that sourdough crust ties it all together. The Bay Ridge vodka pie is dangerously good—creamy, rich, the kind of thing you'll randomly crave a week later. If you want a fully loaded pizza, the Supreme has everything: sausage, mushrooms, onions, olives, pepperoni. There are also some interesting combinations like the Red Hook (white pie with mortadella, potato, thyme, pistachios) and the Coney Island 2.0 (pineapple and chorizo instead of the usual Hawaiian). I think pineapple on a pizza is a crime against humanity, but maybe worth trying if you like Hawaiian pizza and you're feeling adventurous. They also do solid meatballs, a good Caesar salad, and the cocktails are affordable with a solid bourbon selection. Weekend brunch adds bagels, biscuits, and sausage gravy to the mix. Bottom line: this is the kind of place that adds minimal value to your neighborhood. That sourdough crust alone makes it worth going out of your way for.
First Impressions & Vibe: We popped in on a Saturday with no reservation and were seated within 10 minutes. The place was busy, or “bumping,” as you said. The atmosphere is cool, casual, lively, neighborhood pizza spot energy. ⸻ 🥗 Salad + Starters We tried the Tuscan Kale salad. The cheese was nice and nutty, and the walnuts added a good texture. But the dressing was too acidic — the moment you bite in, the tang hits first and lingers. It overpowered the greens instead of complementing them. ⸻ 🍕 Pizza & Side We went with a classic New York style pie, 12-inch split between two people. Served correctly, satisfying size — we didn’t leave hungry. It’s the kind of pizza you expect from a pizza place: decent cheese, but teg crust was BURNT , but overall “good.” But I have to call out a few details: 1. The bacon side was disappointing. It tasted more like honey ham than bacon. It lacked the fattiness, crispiness, texture contrast you want from bacon. 2. They even served it with a side of ketchup, which felt odd 3. The execution of the pizza was fine, but nothing popped. The food didn’t “wow” me. I will say that their menu offers a wide range of “sourdough pizzas” and “special pizzas” in different styles which I found interesting! 🍹 Drinks & Service We didn’t try any cocktails this time, so can’t speak much on that front. The service was average — nothing bad, nothing that stood out. Exactly what you’d expect: professional, steady, no major slip-ups. ⸻ 🔍 Final Thoughts Wheated is a solid neighborhood pizza spot. It has thoughtful craft behind its dough and menu concepts. Its strengths lie in variety, ambition, and decent pricing. But on this visit, the food didn’t fully deliver — the salad was overpowered, the bacon was off, and the pizza was good but not memorable. Would I go back? Yes — probably more for drinks next time, and maybe experimenting with other pizzas, or to see if another visit hits harder.
I have no idea what people find special about their pizza. We had the Sunset Park pie and a Red Hook pizza and they were absolutely average in taste and had a terrible texture more like a shoe sole. They were very overcooked and dry. Weird. Will give them a second chance if n a few month. Let’s see.
