Holy cow! What a place!! The food is incredible, the staff is very nice. I am visiting from out of town and already had it three times on different days. The spice is really well done,.the noddles are incredible and the dumplings are amazing - although I would suggest the spinach over the pork. I would also lean towards the lamb over the chicken but you can't go wrong either way.
This is my favorite spot in NYC. The A1 (Liang Pi Cold Skin Noodles), Cucumber Salad, and Stew Pork Burger, are my favorite but you can't really go wrong no matter what you get. My only gripe is the gentrification of the music! They used to play old school rap and hip hop (with funny signs about how if you don't like it you can leave), and now it's weird girly pop and EDM. Every like 7 or 8 songs you're lucky if you hear some current rap but it's not the same. Bring it back!
This is my favorite restaurant in New York, period. Always love the hand pulled noodles, got the N4 with the stewed pork and it was fantastic. Chewy and firm, and always picks up the sauce for maximum flavor. Also a huge fan of the flat bread sandwiches. The cumin lamb is super flavorful, but the stewed pork is my favorite. Simple, unpretentious, it is such a comfort and filling item. I'll be back for sure!
🌟 Takeout Treasure Near Jay Street! 🌟 I grabbed takeout from Xi’an Famous Foods in Downtown Brooklyn and wow—this place delivers bold flavors in every bite. The Spicy Cumin Lamb Noodles were a knockout: chewy hand-ripped noodles soaked in rich, aromatic spice, with tender lamb that packs a punch without overwhelming. It’s the kind of dish that makes you pause mid-bite just to appreciate the balance. And don’t sleep on the Tofu Custard—silky, subtly sweet, and the perfect cool-down after the heat of the noodles. It’s comforting and refreshing, like a quiet exhale after a flavor-packed meal. Ordering was quick, packaging was sturdy, and everything traveled well. If you’re near Jay Street and craving something unforgettable, this spot is a must. Will definitely be back for another round!
This was my second spot of the day and I throughly enjoyed my noodles. Just the right amount of spice. The beef just fell apart. The noodles were fresh and filled me up. Service was fast as well. Definitely felt like a warm hug. This made up for what I had earlier at another restaurant that I didn’t enjoy.
Still one of my favorites years later. The N4 stewed pork noodle and chewy with tender pork and a great chili crisp. The pork burger is delicious, and the spicy and sour pork dumplings are just so nice and tart. It wouldn't be a XFF if there weren't lots of noticed and rules taped up to the walls and windows. One of my top foods in NYC. Bring one to LA!
I've had this place on my list before I even moved here this past summer and I finally got the chance to check it out today. I hit it right as soon as they opened because I k ow ho wbust it gets. The line was out the door by the time I left. I of course had to go with the N1: Spicy Cumin Lamb Ripped Noodles. It was cool watching them roll out and oull the noodles as I waited for my food. Just waiting I was already drooling as it smelled amazing. Waited about 15 minute for my food and then it was show time. This place absolutely lived up to all the hype! The noodles were glossy and fragrant with the lamb and spices. I took my first bite and fell in love. They were so soft and flavorful. They were definitely spicy but in a good way, my nose was running but I couldn't stop eating them. They are definitely messy so don't recommend light clothing but it could also just be me. I will for sure be returning to keep eating the noodles but would love to try their spicy lamb burger.
Overall, I think Xian Famous food lives up to the hype. We had the signature spicy cumin lamb noodles, dumplings, tofu soup and the teas. Every thing was very yummy. The signature noodles was delicious and hand cut. Good flavor and unique to the local region. The cold was a good compliment to the spicy taste. Definitely recommend it as a fast dining experience.
Get the sweet pork burger, trust me. It was filled with pork and dipped in the broth. Very very good and filling. Their beef noodle soup was perfect for the cold day. Very filling and spicy. I highly recommend this place. Make sure you go all the way to the back of the restaurant as they do have seating for customers but it’s hidden in the back.
Came here because I was nostalgic for cumin lamb. The lamb did not disappoint; it was flavorful. We got the hand-ripped noodles, lamb dumplings, and the lamb burger. I haven't had too many hand pulled noodles, but it was alright to me. The dough seemed a bit thick and a bit dry to my liking. The lamb burger was a bit dry too. Had to dip it in the chili oil from the dumplings. The dumplings are the best thing we tried! The dough was thin, the filling was juicy and flavorful, and the chili oil for the dumplings was bomb! We were sipping on that chili oil after the dumplings were gone! It is a sit down place, but more like stools at a counter against the wall. There are some more seating with tables in the back, but seems to be missing some chairs. It gets packed, so we were nervous we couldn't get a seat, but luckily got two seats. Beware of the homemade sodas (did not get a picture of that). It tastes good, but they've gone flat when we tried them. Would have been nice if they stayed carbonated. I would totally come back again for the dumplings.
Great Food overall, the atmosphere feels nice. Seating is quite low and reminds me of a ramen shop layout. Staff are nice, not super outgoing though. You still have a feeling of welcoming though as you sit down. The kiosk has you punch in your name, but they still end up calling you by your number which to me seems a bit against the purpose of putting your name on the order in the first place. Otherwise, nothing noteworthy besides that. As food goes, I ordered the Lamb dumplings, Tofu Custard, and braised pork bun. I rather like the decision to have your own identity and make things spicy regardless of if someone can eat it or not. They come with 3 levels of spice, spicier the better. For the lamb dumplings the sauce had a bit of a tartness to it which reminded me of ponzu. It was good but didn't have a very deep complexity to it, pretty average. The dumplings themselves were nice though they were a bit dense. Didn't really get much of a lamb flavor from it strangely enough. The tofu was by far the worst thing I had. It looked very appetizing from first glance, but it was a wolf in sheep's clothing. The only thing that was a saving grace for it was the fact that it had the soup around it. I know tofu is supposed to be flavored by what you serve it with, but the chunks were so large that most of it tasted of nothing unless you get a bit of the soup in there with it. I recommend finding your tofu fill somewhere else or with another dish because it was not worth the buy. Completely on the other hand, The pork bun. The pork bun was the star of the night. Being one of the cheapest things on the menu and one of the most delicious. It took me by surprise that the pork would be so soft and flavorful. It hit all the right notes for me guaranteed. You'll find good flavors at this location, still worth stopping by.
Hey guys :)!! I hope all is well with you today! Lets talk about Xi'an Famous Foods! The restaurant was connected to other stores. When you first go in you see the cute little decor on the left wall, the menu on the right wall, and the food prep crew / kitchen straight ahead. There was little seating space right beyond the cute decor. There was a built in bench and about 5 stools. If you keep going straight to the back there was more seating available. A couple of tables and chairs in booths in the inside / outside area. You will feel the outside weather in this seating area. I ordered and waited about 10 minutes for my food. I took it to go. When I got home I opened the container and HOLYYYY MOLYYYYY the amazing smells rolled out the container. The lamb meat was so tender and juicy. It was seasoned perfectly!!! The noodles was fresh as well but was not as full of flavor like the other places. The only thing differently about this dish I wish this restaurant offered was a soup option like the Very Fresh Noodles restaurant does with this same dish.
I’ve been excited to try this food spot for a while. The service I received was absolutely disappointing. This worker had such a nasty attitude. First she came with my soup dumpling and just threw the bowl on the table didn’t even place it in front of me she purposely tossed it to the other side of the table. She came with the spoon for the dumplings and chopsticks and for some reason took it back didn’t even place it in the table. Everyone else had one but she purposefully didn’t place it on my table even thought it was already in her hands. Did she expect me to pick up the soup dumplings and eat it with my hands ? I went to ask for the spoon and she came with such an attitude and was like “what” I told her i needed the spoon for the chopsticks and she acted like she didn’t know what i was talking about as if she didn’t walk back with the spoon she was supposed to give me. She’s goes and ahead and tells me the spoons are right there. I told her no not those and someone came and showed her their spoon to help me out. She goes and grabs me a spoon and didn’t even hand it to me she tossed it on the counter. Absolutely disgusting. She gives nasty side eyes and makes comments under her breath. I’m not even the type of person to complain or ever leave reviews, this is my first review because her service was just horrible.
Where I grew up — Hangzhou — is notorious for bland food in China. However, if this place opened in Hangzhou, it would probably shut down within a week. So plain. So weird. So bad. Not decent. Not authentic. Maybe it works for people who have never been to China. I won’t be going again. ———— (Edit: Just saw the owner’s response months later…) This restaurant is quite well-known — not every Chinese-owned business manages to expand into a multi-location chain. In fact, before I even moved to NYC, I was genuinely excited to try it. It had been called a “pride of the Chinese community,” and I had seen it featured in countless magazines. So I really gave it a fair shot — not just once, but five times — hoping to finally understand what made it so special. Unfortunately, the food was consistently plain. I kept giving it chances, and even when I took it home, it was because I wanted to improve the flavor myself — not to insult the restaurant. What shocked me most wasn’t the food — it was the owner’s response to honest feedback. My original review was short — just a small note for myself, a reminder not to give this place another try. Instead of addressing the issue, the owner launched into a sarcastic attack on my display name and more. I also noticed that other reviewers with Chinese last names received similarly aggressive replies. As another reviewer, Yassy Huang, put it simply: “It doesn’t taste good 😅😅.” I couldn’t agree more. It’s not personal — just honest. A restaurant that targets customers who speak up — instead of fixing the problem — is ultimately setting itself up to fail. Being one of the few Xi’an noodle shops in NYC doesn’t make you immune to basic standards. Real quality doesn’t panic under criticism. And real respect starts with the way you treat your own community.
