Portillo's is super fun. I've never been to a Chicago location, so I can't compare, but it really feels stylish and full of character. The food is pretty good. It's fast food, generally, but with a little extra flair. Of course, I got the Italian Beef (and a shirt!) and it was wet, salty, and delicious. The menu is pretty large, with lots of things I'd like to try on return. The service was quick, and the decor was dense and themed, which was fitting considering we stopped after a day at Knott's Berry Farm. It was a comforting, filling, and satisfying meal at the end of a busy day, and isn't that what fast food is all about?
My family is from Chicago and Portillo’s is always a great treat for us to go out. The atmosphere, the food, but now, the staff! We had the pleasure of interacting with Martha Aguilar (she was so amazing that we asked for her name). We came here to celebrate my grandmas 81st birthday (this is her favorite restaurant in the world). Martha helped her find a seat while I parked the car, she was attentive, even offered us help with a bag, and tossed our garbage away for us! This is customer service, I love it. Thank you Martha :) May God bless you!!
We went through the DT so I can't say a lot about the service, but we got our food fast and accurate. We got a wet Italian hot beef, fries, and a burger. The italian hot beef we great. It was VERY wet. You can get it wet or not wet, but even the not wet is still pretty wet. The burger and fries were like better quality wendys. This is the best way I can describe them.
Portillo’s in definitely brings that Chicago flavor! I ordered the Italian Beef & Sausage sandwich and a Chocolate Cake Shake, and it really hit close to what you’d get at the originals back in Chicago. The beef was juicy, the sausage was flavorful, and together they had that classic savory combo Portillo’s is known for. While nothing quite replaces eating it in Chicago, this Buena Park location gets pretty dang close and definitely enough to satisfy anyone craving the real Chicago experience out here in SoCal. Highly recommend!
I lived in Chicago for 20 years and Portillos is definitely one of the things I miss. It is like coming home! The Italian beef and cheese burger is a must. Hot dogs and chili cheese dogs are superb! Remember to order cheese sauce for your fries. Their milkshakes are also delicious. Last but not least try the chocolate cake. The frosting is a bit too sweet for my taste but it is demanded by my niece and nephews for their birthdays (yes you can order a whole cake to go) Enjoy this piece of Chicago on “Los Angeles”
My daughter flew in from Missouri on her college break, and we went out to lunch. She had never been to Portillo’s, so I decided to take her there to try the steak sandwich. She definitely enjoyed it. We also ordered fries with the cheese dipping sauce, which she liked as well. She mentioned she had never had a sandwich that was “wet,” but she ended up really enjoying it. I always get mine with extra au jus for dipping. Portillo’s is one of those places that’s just consistent—you always know exactly what you’re going to get.
Finger licking good. A must go to spot. Plenty of seating. The food menu is amazing.
Chicago Dogs, Beef sandwiches, great salads and more! It can be tough to get seats i side, so be prepared to eat on the outdoor patio. Drive thru also. Wish there were more Portillos than just the two, but the Buena Park location has never let me down!
Excellent service, location, and food! Just like in Chi Town! Speedy service and very attentive workers. The food is delicious! From the chicago big beef hotdogs to the dipped Italian beef with extra hot giardiniera peppers! Amazing! Gotta get that chocolate cake shake and more than enough space to park and even fall asleep in your car after eating such a hearty meal! Highly recommended!
Incredible food in massive servings for their price. Service is friendly, the interior is large enough that even with crowds it never feels noisy, fun prohibition-era decor, and I must again impress that the food comes with a lot. I enjoyed the cheddar and beef croissant, and enjoy the italian sausage sandwich as well.
A nice taste of home that brings me back to my Chicago suburb roots. Famous hot dogs, classic crinkle-cut cheese fries, breaded chicken sandwich, and a shake are my go-to selections. Love the drive thru service and attentiveness of the runners. Happy this experience still exists.
Order online for the quickest pickup times. Only issue is you have to go inside and pick up from the mobile order counter, not the regular line. And you can't go thru the drive thru to pick up. Other than that, perfect place to go when you are missing the great food from Chicago.
I love making a Portillo's Run just as much as making a Tommy's Run (If you don't see the shack, take it back!). I had an Italian Beef, dipped with hot peppers; LG Cheese Fries with a Chocolate Cake Shake chaser. Always good going to Portillo's! My boss wants to have a group order (catered) for all of us on the Golf Ops staff (Brentwood CountryClub). Looking forward to assisting him in getting the order placed/picked up ASAP. Portillos is so god damn delicious. It's cheap, filling, and so tasty. I cannot recommend the italian beef sandwich, onion rings, and cheese sauce enough. We definitely need more locations in CA. I will happily drive all the way to LA just to get it.

The atmosphere is great and the food is delicious. There Italian beef sandwich, Chicago hot dogs and chili cheese fries are the reason I always come back. Don't forget to order the chocolate cake shake!
The food was solid. I ordered the Italian beef with sweet peppers. Food came out pretty quickly. The interior design was cool, as it showed all the Chicago highlights. It really made me feel transported to the original location in Chicago. Pretty easy and convenient shopping plaza to enter, as it is next to the Walmart. There's plenty of parking and a drive thru too!
Oh my gosh, what an amazing sandwich that Italian beef was with the hot peppers the fries so crisp and fresh dipped into the cheese sauce that’s made with real cheese and don’t get me started on that chocolate cake shake how amazing the atmosphere is so cool there’s pictures and memorabilia everywhere You stand in line and you pay for your food. You wait to be called and you find a seat them indoor seating outdoor seating. They even have a drive-through if you have not been to this location you should definitely check it out. It has a very old diner kind of vibe to it. The staff were very nice and very helpful. The bathrooms were very clean and parking was very easy to find 10 out of 10. Totally recommend the food is absolutely delicious. The cake slice that we got for my daughter‘s birthday was still a little bit warm and so delicious. We shared a shake because it was just too much food for one person. We didn’t need to get the combo because in one order of fries with some cheese sauce, two sandwiches and a cake shake perfect for two people. They also have an app that you can join up and earn some points. Get some free french fries and a free cake slice for your birthday. This place is great. The shakes come with a whole slice of cake in the shake. Everything is made to order. The bread is super fresh. Can’t wait to come back and try the Chicago dog.
Great location, the staff was efficient but very helpful and friendly especially for those who don't know what everything is. They have obviously been trained that treating customers with patience and friendliness is very important. Had the usual items and they were good as always, they have their process down pat. Bought the Dulce de Leche Latte then bought another after tasting the first one! Haha
We ate at Portillo's today, and it was amazing! My husband really wanted a Chicago dog, and it was perfect. My son got chicken strips – huge portions, and he was stuffed. I had a simple beef sandwich with au jus for dipping; oh my gosh, it was delicious.
My husband and I loved this place! My husband who loves Chicago dogs really loved their hotdogs! My daughter and I loved their chicken tenders and their strawberry shake and chocolate cake!👏👏👏 The atmosphere of the place is really cool too! It's an experience in of itself.

You have to go here if you want an awesome Hot Dog or Italian Beef Sandwich. I guess you can just order it if you don't have one near you. This was my 1st time here and I loved it, the beef sandwich just melts in your mouth and has a ton of flavor that goes for the hot dog also. CHECK IT OUT YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!
It's fricken' Portillo's and it's here in California!!! If you want a Chicago dog or an Italian beef sandwich, you can't go wrong here! They know what they're doing here and I've never had a problem for all the times I've visited. Chicago dog 10/10 Italian beef 10/10 Cheese fries 10/10 Chocolate cake shake 10/10 Location is convenient. It's close to Knott's Berry Farm, lots of parking, they have a drive thru (card only), and lots of indoor seating. This location has been under construction for a while. Something new is that they have an electronic kiosk to order food, as well as cashiers. Staff is always friendly and really good at getting my order down. I live in Los Angeles, so I need a lot of items separated to not get soggy food and they nail the packaging! Extra dip is in cups that haven't spilled in the times I've ordered and they're wrapped in plastic bags in case. Bags have nice weight distribution, so you don't have to worry about your food flying or tipping while you're driving. This location is just a cool vibe. The location has a lot of decoration to look at. People always seems chill, talking, having a good time. Like I said, if you want some Chicago style food, this location nails it!

Chicago native. Accidentally ordered plain hot dogs which was disappointing to open and see. They gave us enough condiments for one to build our own. "Server" was ok, nothing special. Seemed like a bit of an imposition when asked to correct. Food was good, chocolate shake was large and very good. Fries are decent (fun crinkle cut). Atmosphere is fun. Lots to take in. Will be back.
I’ve tried the Chicago-style dog and the Italian beef — both are great. For the Italian beef, I recommend getting it half sweet, half spicy peppers and going extra dipped. The large is huge, so be ready. The flavors really remind me of Chicago. Solid spot if you want something classic and done right.
I think I ordered the wrong thing, French beef was dry, should've added cheese or something, or got the one with a sausage. Otherwise prices are good, fries were good, I like the vibe. Beers looked nice and cold, but I didn't get one myself. There's a pretty big parking lot, but looks like it still may be difficult to get something closer to the restaurant considering how busy it can get. I'll probably return again when I'm in the area. Overall, I felt really let down with my Hotdog. Not really at all like other Chicago dogs I've had. Visually, it was quite untidy - and it was cold on arrival and really soggy - you can see in my photo how one tomato slice is basically dissolving in moisture. Also, the Vienna was tough - it didn't have that soft, buttery "melt in the mouth" texture I associate with the brand - I found myself questioning if it was even a Vienna, and not just a generic, cheaper beef Frank. I love a good Chicago Dog - but despite having the right toppings, it felt "off", falling massively short of my expectations. On the plus side, lovely location, good vibes - just a sad dog experience, which given that this is clearly usually their specialty, defeats the purpose of the visit.

We had two hotdogs, one small Italian Beef two Ice Tea, total $30.00 some dollars the hotdogs were warm and shriveled up with a lot of green relish, the Italian Beef was very dry and Crumbly. We are from Chicago and also in the food industry, this was a disappointment to us. Our evaluation is true and perhaps the people who prepare the food are not in tune with your recipes.
If there is an option to leave a zero star, I would leave this review. But unfortunately, there’s not. This was a very poor experience this evening. Purchased over $160 worth of food. Was missing their iconic combo Italian beef and sausage sandwich brought my receipt to the manager made him aware that the sandwich was missing. He said he was going to remake it. Waited over 15 to 20 minutes with the rest of my food sitting at the table. And haven’t had it received so i’ve went back to the counter and made them aware what’s going on, and the manager told me that he prepped a sandwich himself and left it on the tray when I received my order and thought that I was lying to him. So I went ahead and purchased another sandwich. Promised a 10 minute cook time that was not accurate. Waited over 25 minutes for that sandwich. Received it as soon as I sat down could not enjoy it from the frustration and a cake shakes that I received were pure liquid very poor consistency. Made them aware about that, and they were upset by remaking it. As I finished my meal, I made them aware that this was a very poor experience, and I was unsatisfied on the way I got treated and served and on the quality and missing items that I’ve received Manager told me have a good night and did nothing about it! I’d really think twice if I was you to attend a meal at this establishmen!
