Opinions de El Toro Mexican Grill & Bar Buffalo
I've only been once, but the food and the service made a good first impression. Surrounded by corporate food this is a good alternative. I had the carnitas lunch special and my daughter had the fajita burrito lunch special, which were both served with beans and rice. The portions were nice for lunch, but I could've used a tablespoon or two more of the rice. However, priced at $8.99 each there's really no reason to complain. As far as taste goes the carnitas were on point. A little different cut from what I'm used to, but I know that depends on the region the cooks/owners are from. The grilled or sauteed onions & peppers were picture perfect and tasted good with the pork. The rice and refried beans were both fresh and tasty. My daughter's burrito was good, and I plan on going back to get my own. If it's as good as hers was I'm going to CRUSH IT!! I'd rather have a dinner portion though, because it was that tasty. The fajita chicken and beef were seasoned well, and again those peppers and onions were sauteed perfectly. The service was really good. The guys were nice and laid back, but at the same time they were attentive. We're definitely going back!!
Great spot I just tried for the first time and the food was amazing, flavorful and made with care oh yeah and it was hot which I like. I’d also like to add that I didn’t wait long for our food to arrive at our table. Not to mention they have the best margarita’s!!
I love El Toro Restaurant! The food is awesome! The fresh salsa is delicious and the chips are warm and crisp. My favorite dish is the jumbo chicken burrito with the queso sauce. 😋 Every thing is so good, you can't go wrong!
Loved the food, plenty of vegetarian choices. Excellent taste and high quality ingredients. Good service and courteous staff. No complaints. Will definitely visit again.
Found another great local gem! I love exploring the different techniques and presentation styles among restaurants with similar menus. El Toro did not disappoint, the food was authentic and very good, the atmosphere was relaxed, a great selection of spirits with a bartender to match, our server knew the menu and was attentive. All in all a enjoyable dinner.
Superb! We love Mexican food and have been disappointed with other Mexican options for our food/drinks. Well, let me tell you, we will never think twice over where to go now! El Toro is simply the best. We used to go there a few years back and stopped b/c of several reasons. Now they are under new ownership and what a difference in quality of food, service, margaritas etc. Joanne was our server and was excellent! We raved about the food as she was bringing it. The margaritas were the best, the very best, we have had anywhere at any type of restaurant. We all had the Texas Margarita! If you want the best Mexican food you owe it to yourself to go to El Toro!
I have been going to El Toro for a number of years and haven't been disappointed yet. The last time I went my host was Jason B. He was very polite and attentive. The food was very good.
We had an early lunch at El Toro today and the food was prompt and delicious. I had the vegetable fajitas lunch special which offered a lot of variety in one plate. We did forego dessert, but I've had their flan and it is so good! Our server was very attentive and pleasant.
We’re coming from across the border, we’ve been here twice now and really enjoyed it both times! Food is great, so many options, prices are unbelievable for the amount of food you get. The portions are huge and everything we’ve tried is so tasty and tastes authentic. They give free chips and salsa, everyone is friendly and the food comes fast. This location is only 5 mins from the Amherst shops that everyone goes to for cross border shopping, very easy drive to get there and big parking lot with a lot of spots. We’ve tried their enchiladas, tacos, ceviche, questo, quesadilla and burritos. Highly recommend!!! 🌮🌯
I moved from the West coast a few months ago and this place definitely made me feel like home. Food and service was excellent. Salsas were tasty, meat was perfect, rice and beans were delicious.
I visited this no frills place for dinner during the week. The service was solid, but the standout was definitely the tacos diabla—they were absolutely delicious! I’ll be making sure to come back here whenever I’m in town.
Excellent authentic Mexican food! From our pitcher of margaritas, to our sizzling fajitas everything was just right. The staff were courteous and service was prompt- this just became my new go to Mexican restaurant. The bar area is huge, I would like to come back with friends for drinks too.
Food was so good! And great portion sizes. I had chicken and mushrooms and my husband had enchiladas. I'll for sure come back. Love the decor
El Toro is a place I have come to love so much I've become a major regular! Their food is truly authentic and consistently delicious every time. I started coming here when they first opened. I have never been let down. The manager is sweet and warm and the staff are warm & welcoming as well. If there was one thing I missed from one of my past relationships it was authentic homemade Mexican food! They bring that and then some!!! This place is my favorite restaurant for Mexican food and I hope it never changes!!! You can litterally buy anything off the menu and if you have low spice tolerance they will guide you as their staff is knowledgeable. I can not speak highly enough about El Toro!!!
Good food and service. Overlooked gem in this part of town! UPDATE Dec 2025: Another great meal and exceptional service from our server James last week. Keep it up!
First of all, the fish soup is to die for! Fresh veggies, huge chunks of fish, diced avocado in a tomato base. The aroma is warm and inviting like home. If you're thinking fishy smelling something, think again. SO good. Everything I've ordered has been delicious, and the portions are good and the price is great. I always have leftovers. This place is the best!
El Toro has become one of my favorite restaurants over the last few years. Great food coupled with great service. The food always comes out pretty quickly and never disappoints when it comes to taste or portion size. Truly a reliable spot for a high quality meal.
Great service, family owned and warm welcoming environment. Waitress was very kind. Got the Al pastor, it was good and the came with rice and beans. Got free chips and salsa twice, for the price you can't beat it.
Best Mexican restaurant! Gotta try the burrito ranchero 👌
This is a favorite of ours. They have really done a great job making the restaurant into a pretty, comfy and delicious experience. They have a very friendly wait staff and always seem to have plenty of them working. I am not a vegetarian but on the occasion that I want to go that route, they have some of the best around. I did not give five stars for atmosphere because the ladies room needs attention. With all the work they have done, I’m sure they will get to it.
My friend and I met here for dinner, having never been before. It was wonderful. Beware the size of the margaritas! The “regular” size came in a globe size glass and was so, so good. The food was delicious and our server was so sweet. We joked over using Duo Lingo - me for Spanish, and her for English - she kindly let me try out my limited vocabulary. Overall a great, local place that people should know about.
Best Mexican food I've had in WNY,so good! The service is professional and extremely friendly, especially James always helping out picking out some of his favorites hasnt let me down, super nice who you can tell really loves his job Atonsphere is so clean and inviting. I highly recommend this Mexican Resturant, you won't be disappointed
Had the Pollo Diabla, was fantastic. The tortillas are fresh and delicious, portions are great. The rice and guacamole is fantastic and very well flavoured. Prices are good and the staff here clearly cares as they took very good care of us. I would greatly recommend this place for anyone looking for authentic Mexican food. Chips and salsa were also very good.
As a Californiaian, this restaurant is authentic and delicious. They have a secret salsa that is more picante than most.
Amazing place and love the food 😋 😍 will definitely be back soon🔥🇵🇷
Waitresses are attentive but not overbearing. We LOVED the true Mexican food and the presentation on the plate was beautiful. I wanted a margarita so bad because the flavors sounded amazing! Definitely recommend this place! 💃
Food and service were great, not busy or loud and prices were very reasonable.
My favorite spot for Mexican! Staff are always smiley and friendly. Food is fantastic and the best Texas margarita in town!
Been ordering from here for the last few years, and they are great! I’m never disappointed, the food comes warm, is tasty and proportioned well! -Please don’t change your takeout/delivery service!!! Also, their nacho chips + salsa are a great addition! Please bring back sopapillas on the dessert menu-they are missed :(
Went for lunch with some friends and really enjoyed the experience and of course, the food. I ordered the Texas special which came with a chimichanga and a quesadilla with either beef or chicken. It also came with a little salad. it was a very good meal and I ordered it again. For drinks, I had the house margarita which came on the rocks and then the regular size came in a very large glass. I was not complaining. Definitely will be returning in the future.
Outstanding authentic food! Have gone here for dine in and take out for years and the quality never drops. Portions are perfect and you are almost always seated right away with food coming quickly after you place your order (even takeout orders are ready within 20 minutes). Probably the best Mexican restaurant in all of Buffalo.... it totally flies under the radar. They even can accommodate large groups at the last minute - we spent days trying to find a restaurant to celebrate a birthday and everyone was full because it was within days of Christmas and everywhere was packed with shoppers eating at other restaurants. I called about two hours before needing a 5:30 Friday dinner reservation and they accommodated our party of 10 immediately when everyone else said no. I cannot recommend this place enough!
Super good food and friendly atmosphere! Would highly recommend
We went for lunch on a Saturday had no problem getting a table the man who sat us was friendly and attentive. The food was very good and huge portions. I will definitely be back! Best Mexican food in buffalo area in have found.
Great place and atmosphere. I had the birria ramen! They didn’t disappoint. I couldn’t finish it, but it was just as I imagined it. So tasty and mouthwatering! I was passing by the area but hopefully I can go back!
Stopped for a late lunch on a Saturday. Service was friendly and quick & food was very good. Atmosphere seems a little dated but clean. Certainly recommended.
Came here for lunch and drinks with a friend. The waitstaff was very nice and cheerful. The food was quite good and extremely filling. The only thing was I misunderstood the wording of my dish as it said "bean burrito, cheese enchilada and tostada with beans". I assumed "with beans" meant as a side, especially as I was asked if I would like a cheese or bean tostada. But it didn't come with beans. I like that the refried beans here are vegetarian. The large bull fighting picture with Josh Allen's face was a super cute touch.
A little hidden from view of the street, but the parking lot was half full so it must be good and it was! I had a taco and enchilada combo while my boyfriend had the fish tacos. We both loved everything including the free chips and salsa. Mango margarita was really tasty too. Service was good and consistent. We will be back!
My wife have been here twice with friends and family, the food is great, the prices are reasonable and the service is excellent. The margaritas are top notch! I have had the Chille Renello and the Carnitas, my wife has the pollos con crema. Our server Jason B. was polite and attentive, highly recommended! It is now our favorite spot for mexican food in the WNY area
I indulge in Mexican/Latin food as often as possible and am constantly looking for those absolute gems. El Toro is exactly that. Great staff, great authentic atmosphere and above all else food that is to die for! I had their Burrito al Pastor. A blend of marinated pork in fine strips and pineapple grilled to tender deliciousness! It's easy to make this dish too sweet with overuse of pineapple, or, too spicy. Likewise, the pork must be tender and cooked perfectly, lest it gets tough. El Toro's cook/chefs nailed it to absolute perfection! El Toro forever shall be in my mind as ¡el mejor!
My brother and I brought our stepdad here for Father’s Day and it did NOT disappoint! The food was excellent, the portions were perfect, and we did not leave hungry. Our server was extremely nice as well and made sure we had everything we needed We got the enchiladas supreme, birria tacos, burritos rancheros, tamarind jarritos, Pacifico beer, and Mexican mules We will definitely be returning many times in the future
Queso with mole was great. My food and my wife's food was not as warm as it should be. Get the feeling things are pre plated then warmed. Wife's enchiladas were cool in middle. Service was great, seems otherwise like a nice place.
Nicely spaced dining area and a bar that is set to the side on the other side of the doorway which makes it much quieter in dining areas. It is bright and cheerful inside and easy to get into from the parking lot. The food was good, with not a lot of seasoning on the chicken (enchilada, burrito or chimichanga) . The chicken was fresh, house shredded white breast meat and very moist. We enjoyed the complimentary nacho chips and salsa. Their beer prices were decent too.
Food was excellent. Drinks, superb. Service slightly slow but they were busy so that's a great sign and everything we ordered was absolutely worth the small wait. Come here to relax and enjoy authentic and well done Mexican cuisine.
The service was great. They weren't very generous with the meat in my Enchilada combo. No rice or beans served with it. They are one of the more expensive Mexican restaurants I've been to. You get what you pay for, though. The food was very tasty. We will return.
Two meals at this is place is enough to convince it is quite a traditional kitchen as much sought. Traditional/ house margaritas aren't too sweet and use good liquor. Enchiladas are really good especially with red sauce (green sauce is lill' sour). chorizo taco was pretty good and less oily although had extra salt.. maybe fresh onion, fried jalepenos along with it would have done good balance.. on a whole A+ experience for Buffalo! Recommended.
The food was amazing, as it was the past couple times I visited. The interior is a bit dated, but serviceable as any Mexican restaurant I have ever been to is. The service was polite enough, but inattentive. I finished my beer just after my entree arrived and after delivering my food, never saw my server for the rest of the meal. I had to flag down someone in order to pay and leave, making this visit one of my most brief forays into a restaurant that I've ever had. The food is worth it and the service isn't bad, but the hospitality was definitely lacking. I'd rate this place higher in service and atmosphere if I felt more welcome and looked after.
I have been a few times and the quality of food and service was consistently good. As a vegetarian, I appreciate the variety on their menu. It is nice that they have a $6 margarita happy hour.
Try their house margarita in happy hours. Really gives a good buzz. Not sugary ones like others. Chorizo tacos were yummy. Would have preferred side of red onions but prices of sides were little steep. Enchiladas were right portions and not too cheesy. A little more attention to the service would have been appreciated.
Been here a couple thymes and the food is always good. The food comes out pretty quick and it's very good. I can't wait to expand on the menu as the birria ramen is next on my list. They have plenty of drink specials as well.
I ordered a chicken taco salad. I found the filling to be soggy. It tasted good, but I couldnt get past the soggy filling. Maybe if they added rice to it.
I would probably go four and a half if I could. Food was good, but this type of Mexican fair is now readily available. It needs something to set it apart. I have lived in Buffalo too long. Because now a jumbo burrito comes with an expectation of truly massive proportions. Which I did not get from El Toro. It was maybe two bites smaller than when you get at Lloyd's. Food was very good, location is convenient. Service was very pleasant. They need a signature dish. And the guac does not excite.
Typical Tex Mex set up inside. They seemed a bit short staffed put the waitress really did work and did everything to make us comfortable and happy. They were out of some drinks which was a bummer but not her fault. So instead we had tacos. We ordered and then the waitress came back to inform us that what we wanted was also not available. I was determined to support this small business so we asked her to find out what is available and we can order from that. Again she was the sweetest and apologized for something that def was not her fault.
Wanted to try a new mexican food place the reviews looked good. The place was a little slow not a big deal. The menu is a little big so lots to look over but they have the usual staples. The chips and salsa was good. We got the enchilada supreme 4 types of enchiladas which was not super hot needed a few more minutes in the oven to melt the cheese. Also got the chicken flautas which were great. The taco al a carte was ok not my favortie I prefer shredded beef to ground beef tacos. Dessert was good fried ice cream was pretty decently portioned and the flan was good just didn't like that they poured chocolate sauce on it if you get one ask for it on the side to add if you want it took away from the flavor. Over all it wasn't a bad place probably will come back to try new stuff
1st time customer. I really wanted to like this restaurant, but I thought it was just okay at best.I ordered the chicken tortilla soup and thought it was bland and the chicken could have been more tender. I also ordered the steak with chorizo sausage with the beans and rice. The steak was also bland and was not very tender. (Not the highest quality of steak).
The food was ok, but service was slow. Asked for a refill on my drink, was done eating and still didn't receive my drink. I probably should have gave a 2 star but, food and atmosphere was ok.
Well ambiance was not very festive, seemed almost subdued, i understand the present social situation and well I've been to other restaurants and their presentation was a bit more colorful and fun. The food was ok, the steak and chorizo tacos I had were very tasty but the portions left a little to be desired, beans and rice were pretty much standard as any other establishment. Service was pretty good, the waitress was friendly, bilingual and courteous. The drinks were actually the reason I came here, good Mexican beer selection and good frozen margaritas. Pretty decent Mexican restaurant.
Food was mid but Eefa was a wonderful server, she made me feel at home
Unfortunately, ownership changed about a year ago and with it came higher prices, different menu, and the time I went, not as good. We were worried that service would be slow, but the food came within 15 minutes and was very good. I had the vegetarian selection #6 which consisted of a spinach chalupa, quesadilla, and burrito. All fresh and cheesy but not greasy, which I find to be typical of many Mexican restaurants. We also got the grande special, which was huge, a very good deal for 12.50, and again fresh and tasty. My pinot grigio was a reasonable 5.50 and the guacamole was good after I added some table salt, pepper, lime, and salsa. I would recommend this place and hope they keep it up. The only thing I would like to see improved is added spice or flavor, though, I understand that this type of Mexican cuisine is generally not particularly flavorful, at least in my experience.
Classic Mexican restaurant feel. Margaritas are amazing! Service is great! The food is average. We got the birria tacos and pick 3 plate. The pick 3 meats are either chicken or beef. Don't get the beef. It was not good and the chicken was okay. The tacos, though, were good. If we return, it would be just for the drinks, chips and salsa, and maybe a quesadilla or taco.
The food was good. The staff seemed nice. I do however think it is weird they added a fee for takeout. Also the park is tight. Probably a place I would avoid during busy times. Update Went and ate in and definitely wouldn't do it again. The women who were working kept trying to get us to order and failed to give us enough time to look at the menu. When we were finally ready and told the one woman she said the other person would be with us. It was more frustrating for myself. Next time we will just order takeout.
Ordered delivery and would not get again. Posting this so I remember next time I’m in town. Chicken verde enchiladas had no cheese, did not like the tortillas either. Chips were stale. Luckily I ordered the guacamole so I could make a meal out of the plain shredded chicken, rice, and guac….:/ One positive: margarita was strong
The restaurant has new owners so the menu has changed along with the food. The ground beef has no seasoning so that wasn’t great. But the salsa needs to come with a warning label. The prior salsa was so good that I bought to-go containers of it. The new salsa is so hot my mouth is burning an hour later and that was on just one bite of the chip. I used to love this place but sadly I am going to have to find a new restaurant for my authentic Mexican food fix.
We've been going to El Toro for years. Tonight we were very disappointed. All our food is cold and our chips are stale. We had a pickup order but almost always do pickup.
The place was nearly empty when I went, but I wasn't too worried. Now I know it was for a reason. Ordered chimichangas and they were soggy and the refried beans were overcooked from being microwaved. I know lots of restaurants microwave food but there seemed to be no effort to cooke food at all. The meat (both chicken and beef) were overcooked for the fajitas too. The rice looked old and I mistook it for cheese at first. Considering there was only 2-3 sets of customers, I was frustrated the server never came to check on us and was sitting on their phone. I don’t like to complain too much but it seems there needs to be a fundamental change to how they operate.
I have been to this restaurant several times And have always gotten the same thing. Shrimp fajita. They used to have the best fajitas in town . I was always bragging about how good they were and sending people there for dinner The last two times I have been there, the food has not been the same. Last time I thought maybe I just hit it on a bad night so I decided to try again tonight. I don't know what's happened. I don't know if they changed their recipe or if they changed owners, but The food is not the same and the prices have gone up. Today will be my last time going there. The fajita was bland, huge corners cut on the flavor and more expensive. Very disappointing. I got takeout. The man who helped me with my takeout was very nice and took care of me right away. I didn't have to wait. The atmosphere and decorations are very nice. I haven't been to the bar recently but when I have in the past, the drinks were good.
Do not go to El Toro!! Management and service is not nice and disrespectful. Waitress Lili was most disrespectful and rude server I have ever encountered. From very beginning did not want to work and annoyed by customers asking questions. After asking for an extra side of rice. Manager proceeded to approach his customers extremely hostile by point his finger, having major attitude, and handling the situation out of character. He had to be pulled aside to hear the that lili accused the customer of “demanding rice.” Luckily after being pulled aside manager realized his wrong and made the situation right. Do not go here and give business unless you like being served attitude. *Response to this review shows you did not learn from mistakes. Payment was never the issue (wanted an extra side of rice for an extra charge)! Shame on management!!*
Got seated, waitress came over asked what we wanted to drink, got our water no straws. Over 20 mins didn't see our waitress until we requested her. Got our order with magarita. Waited another 35 mins before asked our waitress when is our meal coming. She said it was just about done. Waited another 10 mins to get our food. It was cold. Got to go boxes and asked for the check. Waitress included the margarita she didn't even make. Third time been there, I think food is good quality but service/attentiveness to customers severely lacking.
Before coming to this place everyone should consider somewhere else. The disrespectful response to a rating only shows the ignorance on managements part. Came to dinner with my family for graduation weekend and we were met with hostility, rudeness, and lack of professionalism. We were met with rude waiters and management from the moment sitting in a booth. The way the manager came over to my father, pointed as well as putting his face in my father’s face was the most disrespectful thing. Reviewing cameras could have only shown the lack of professionalism of the workers here at this restaurant. There is not reason that could justify that kind of behaviors in a business. The owners should reconsider their workers. After apologizing for the waiter as well as offering a discount on our bill was not needed , however it was given because the manager made it clear that it was the waiter at fault. Taking my father away from dinner was extremely uncalled for and no way can make it okay. Being openly disrespectful in response to other reviews only will push out further customers. Claiming my father was a police man is also extremely weird… the many comments made about extra charges on the bill never happened and quite frankly the cost was never going to be an issue. The only issue was the waiters response when we asked for more , waiter Lily never once said it would be an extra charger and if she did it wouldn’t have been a problem. Your rudeness towards me and my family on a special day was entirely uncalled for as well as the lying and untrue remarks. Do not eat here, promise you will leave with only negative things to say about the people and experience.
A $50 Waste !!! On October 19, 2024 at approximately 4:00 PM went into the restaurant for the first time from a referral and had an awful experience. I ordered a total of four burritos. Also served with rice and beans salad. Everything was horrible. Burritos , Rice And beans were cold. Beans were puréed like A cold soup. Most importantly and above all the burritos were horrible. There was no cheese, onions or fixings on the burritos served dry and soggy with no flavor .If you are looking for a great Mexican restaurant, try taco Del Lindo on transit Road in the Burlington Plaza excellent service and excellent Mexican food .
It was the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. Our hostess/waitress came to our table twice in the 1 1/2 hours I was there. Took 25 min to take our order. 45 min to get our food. While waiting, we watched every single table get drink refills, food, dessert, etc. I was with my girlfriend, so it was just two of us, and 6 or 7 party tables were getting served before us when they were sat 20 min after we were. They were getting desserts and their check i couldn't get a drink refill, while I waited for my bland mediocre, barely warm food. The girlfriend had Birria tacos. Omg, it was boiled beef in a corn tortilla. Zero flavor. So bad. I got the burrito del toro. Supposed to be fried, it wasn't. The chicken and beef had no seasoning, so bland. I will never consider returning. I suggest others to also avoid.
Very rude server! We had Lily as our waiter and she was very rude to begin with. When we asked her what beers they served she grabbed the drink menu from our hands, opened to the book and started to rudely point to the beers on the menu. Then moments later she began to name every beer on the menu, it was very rude and unnecessary manners. We later had the manager come over and aggressively talk to us, pointing his finger in our face just because we asked for more rice. Not once did they say we could get it as a side, which if they said would’ve resolved the problem. Instead they chose a hostile route and the manager kept talking over us as we were trying to explain that all we wanted was more rice. It turns out the waiter Lily was lying to the manager that came over about the situation. Afterwards the manager was very kind to us after he found out what we wanted and kindly apologized to my family. A VERY RUDE EXPERIENCE.
Worst experience, clearly mentioned about allergies and asked everything without meat before ordering. When we got our vegetable fajita , we found few pieces of meats inside and felt like they re-used the grill plate without washing it so all stocked meat from previous order came in to our vegetable fajita order. Their managers and employees response on the error was very casual.
Last night my girlfriend and I stopped in for dinner, and it will absolutely be our last visit. After being seated, we waited nearly 30 minutes just to receive our drinks, and despite asking twice, water took just as long to arrive. The restaurant was not busy, yet our waiter showed zero sense of urgency or attentiveness. Things only got worse when, after waiting an additional 40 minutes for our appetizers, our waiter came back to tell us the order was never even sent to the kitchen and asked if we still wanted them. By that point, we declined. While our entrees eventually arrived and tasted fine, they were nowhere near good enough to justify the excessive wait times and consistently poor service. Overall, the experience was frustrating and unacceptable. This place used to be good, not sure what happened.
