Opinions de Maison Alyzée Burlingame
Exceptional customer service and very friendly staff! Priced reasonably for the quality. I ordered a Mille Feuille for 4/6p, and let me tell you I did not excepted it to be this good! I had to store it in the fridge for another day because my friend pushed back her birthday dinner to the next day. The staff taught me how to store and serve it properly so it won''t end up soggy. And yes, it was still crunchy and the pastry and the custard are not overly sweeten which we all enjoyed. The slight burnt caramel/butter flavor on the puff pastry complimented the light custard very well. I can see myself coming back to try other items. The store is very clean as well which I would like to come back and have a cup of tea + a piece of pastry there and enjoy the ambience. Great location because it is in downtown Burlingame so I don't have to go drive 40 mins to Palo Alto (parking might be hard during lunch/dinner hours though). Very delicious, highly recommend!!!
4.4 | A true french patisserie. Wonderful pastries of all sorts, clearly made with care and precision. Tried a couple of them and they are quite rich in flavor, can definitely split one between two people. Staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Prices are fair given the careful crafting of each piece. Would recommend stopping by!
This is the place, where if you sit outside and are not otherwise engaged in a conversation or with your earbuds up, you'll notice that roughly every third couple or group walking by there's that one person who interrupts and says "THIS is the place..." and goes off on their own glowing review as they walk away. I'm not joking. You can try it yourself. All you need is about 20 minutes sitting outside, being aware of your surroundings as people walk on by, as you savor what I consider to be the best pain au chocolat (and croissants) I've had outside of France. Proust’s Swann had his madeleine in Combray, I had my pain au chocolat at Maison Alyzée. This is, mind you, on Burlingame Avenue, where there are at least five other serious bakeries within less than a two block radius. Why do I have the feeling their storefronts aren't eliciting the same type of responses from passersby? I could see for myself, but I don't think they'd appreciate me sitting outside their respective bakeries enjoying a pain au chocolat and a latte from Maison Alyzée. Among the many things COVID changed, it's interesting it established an outdoor cafe culture in the U.S. that I hadn't seen much outside of France. Maison Alyzée is just taking full advantage of that by not only importing the expertise of French pastry baking but the crucial ingredients themselves that can’t be substituted locally to pull off what has become my favorite breakfast over the past few months. Also, amazing $5 baguettes, $1 chouquettes, and, yes, the $10 mille-feuille is well worth it at a penny per sheet.
3 desserts/pastries costed me $37! I know that’s insane but the flavor and quality really blow me off(Highly recommending Signature Chocolate Tart & 100% Pistachio)
Very nice coffee, and Tim and Rebecca are so kind. They were very helpful. I recommend going to this place! Very nice atmosphere and beautiful presentation.
I have seen so many new arrivals to the Bay Area French pastry shop scene lately that it’s hard to know one from the other. I can honestly say this one is well worth a visit (and the high price point). The Easter dessert pictured was a decadent experience from start to finish complete with a hazelnut butter base, chocolate mouse, and a chocolate egg with a panna cotta like filling and a zesty citrus “yolk.”
This spot recently opened on Burlingame Ave. The pastry chefs are definitely top notch. Had their almond and chocolate croissant. They are so soft and flakey and you can taste the butter. I love how good they taste. You can tell how good the quality their items are and the price is very reasonable. I find it hilarious when people walk in and cry that there are no prices on some of their items. I don't mind that. I saw how beautiful everything looked so I'm willing to try it out! I also got some sweets and can't wait to try them out! Ricky was super friendly and fast when ringing me up at the register. Can't wait to go back and try more of their delicious goodies 😍
This is the only place I know outside of Paris or Lyon with croissants and pastries as good as the ones in Paris or Lyon. I’d show you a picture but normally civilized people devour their goods like rabid wolves before I get the chance. Their coffee is good, the desserts are to die for. The people who work there are nice; the person who I think is the owner is very kind and very French.
Invited my parents to a niche pastry & coffee Tuesday 02-03/26, and it was no disappointment. Ten ten without a doubt, was a great way to start our day. The two gals working that said morning were absolutely commendable!
I love this place. Very authentic French pastries. I had a very good eclair, good quiche, but the marble cake was the best I've ever had and I pre-ordered their flan and it was AMAZING. indoor outdoor seating. Ordering can be a little chaotic, as you sort of all crowd up to the display case. But highly recommended.
Staff was patient and helpful. Lots of viennoiserie, cake, and pastry options. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. They have ceramic cups and plates for indoor dining. We got the triple chocolate croissant ($7) and a pistachio cake (called 100% pistachio; $12). They were both sizeable and good looking. The croissant was tastefully chocolatey and surprisingly not too sweet, allowing us to eat it all in one sitting without coffee or tea. The cake had 4 different components that utilized pistachio. Each component had different textures, intensity, and sweetness. The pistachio chantilly cream was my favorite followed by the pistachio cake base.
This place is amazing! These desserts just taste amazing! After spending like 20-30 minute to find parking in this area, you definitely deserve to treat yourself something delicious. The staffs were so nice and patient! 100% recommend! 5/20/2023 This is my second visit to Maison Alyzee, the staff was so kind and the dessert was absolutely delicious. It was very relaxing to just sit outside, and enjoy a beautiful Saturday. I want to try their coffee next time ! 8/19/2023 I tried the mojito and it is very refreshing and delicious! May-2024 My all time favorite ❤️ July-2024 Matcha raspberry cake! So good
I’m absolutely giving 5 stars for the hot chocolate - the rich thick flavor took me by surprise. It went down smoothly and my sweetness sensitivity didn’t get triggered at all. I haven’t tried the original so I can only speak highly of the hot chocolate I had which I requested have oatmilk added on. Glad I tried their store for the first time.
If you really wanna experience French style of bakery, this is it. This place sits right on prime Burlingame Avenue and instantly draws you in with its classic French outdoor seating — those Parisian-style chairs and tables are impossible to ignore. Walking Inside you see a dangerously huge variety of pastries. Seriously hard to choose. I’ve been here at least five times and still haven’t repeated a single item. The triple chocolate croissant is a standout (OMG — I’ve never had one like this anywhere else in the Bay Area), and the pistachio croissant is an absolute must-try. Honestly, everything is delicious. I finally came with a French friend, and he said it actually feels like Paris — French approved ✅. Just a heads-up: it does get packed during peak brunch hours. Easily one of my top 3 spots in Burlingame.
One of the few places I was able to find Kouign-Amann past 10am! They also heated it up for us when asked! It also has free wifi with nice indoor sitting area.
Maison Alyzee cakes are one of the best in the Bay Area. I’m especially a fan of their chocolate desserts: the signature chocolate tart with hazelnut praline is deliciously rich, the tiramisu pastries perfectly light and creamy and the harmony is sweeter chocolate muss.
I found a fancy cake and cafe shop!! There were so many amazing cakes and pastries. I bought some cakes to go. Look at this picture, the staff secured each cake with tapes, these cakes had been kept in their beautiful shape. (Good point) These cakes taste and look perfect. This shop is gonna be one of my favorite shops!!
The tarts and mini cakes at Maison Alyzée are a must-try! The pastries are good but generally on the higher end of the price range ($6-7). The mini cakes and tarts, in my opinion, are reasonably priced for the quality. The strawberry pistachio tart was delicious. The place itself is spotless with a minimalist decor, creating a nice atmosphere for a chill meetup with friends
Finally a true French patisserie in the Bay Area - as good as any in Paris. The deserts are out of this world. If you like chocolate, try the Harmony - the most amazing combination of flavors, textures and just deliciousness. The croissants are great, the macarons are delicious, apparently even the coffee is delicious (I don’t drink coffee). I have had the hot chocolate which imagine the chocolate you’d use in say a chocolate soufflé, melt it and pour it into a cup. It’s like molten icing - a little thick but out of this world. Great ambiance, can be a little slow on service but the people are very nice who work there.
Cozy little cafe with plenty of baked goods, ample tea and coffee options. If you are into green teas - try paris for her. Staff is just the cherry on top you need. Best thing - it opens till late.
Another day, and another perfect eating experience at Maison Alyzée! New Lunar Year Mandarine Sesame Croissant withFrench organic butter, Mandarine Confit, Sesame & Opalys Valrhona white chocolate ganache, Sesame seeds. Vanilla Latte and Water to go with. DELICIOUS! Perfect service, and a beautiful location in Burlingame California while sitting at the window watching the good people and doggos. You'll want to enjoy Maison Alyzée too!
This place is amazing! Love the staff who was nice and kind to us ~ Everything tastes good here but the pistachio cake was god sent. Not too sweet, most importantly. Highly recommend.
Everything looked so good, and tasted even better. Like the name suggests, this place feels like legit French patisserie. Super classy, not too sweet, and just really well-balanced flavors. I had a coffee éclair and some macarons, really good. And I want to come back to try others.
After two disappointing stops at very overhyped bakeries in SF, we ended our pastry hunt at Maison Alyzee, and I’m so glad we did. We’ve been here before and they never disappoint. Today we tried the chocolate croissant, hazelnut croissant and the tiramisu, and both were easily the best we’ve had. This is exactly how a croissant should be: buttery, flaky, crispy on the outside, warm on the inside, and absolutely delicious. Every bite checked all the boxes. What really sets Maison Alyzee apart is their consistency. Every visit delivers the same high quality, plus they’re always fast, efficient, and genuinely friendly. Their drinks are excellent too, which makes the experience even better. If you’re deciding between this spot and any overhyped bakery in the Bay Area, do yourself a favor and come here instead. Maison Alyzee hands down has the best croissants I’ve tried in the Bay. Highly, highly recommend
Maison Alyzee has the best pastries on the peninsula! I love going every weekend for my weekly treat, and I enjoy their pastries with a nice flat white.
Great place! I love to spend time at the patio of this cute French cafeteria with a book, cup of latte and a coffee eclair 😋 Pastry is delicious, good quality of coffee, very clean, pleasant and beautiful!
We visited late at night, so many options are out of stock. We ended up getting one of their signature Chocolate tart and it was really good. The service was excellent. The server waited next to me as I was getting a cup of water to bring my tart to the table. I just told him to give it to me, I can carry it, it’s just one tart. He was reluctant as he wanted to bring it himself, but I insisted so he gave it to me in the end. Pretty kind guy! Despite being 8pm, the store was still packed inside and outside.

This french bakery has some delicious pastries. The ambiance in the store is beautiful as well.

When entering here, it has a very inviting kind of vibe. It's bright, clean, and so organized. The pastries look so pretty. It looks like it's just a display, and you don't want to eat it. We were greeted right away, but customer service slowly went downhill from there. They got our items together, and I paid. Not even 2 minutes later, "They were like we forgot to charge you for this." I paid again. Only to find out when we got home, we were missing our macarons. I called, and they were like we have it here at the counter." I asked for a refund since we weren't going all the way back there. The lady tells me, "I'm not sure if we can." Of course, by this time, I was annoyed. I waited patiently to make sure I got my money back. Aside from the experience, their pastries are amazing. 1. Caramelia choux - This was delicious and had something crunchy inside. I didn't care for the buttercream on top. The different layers complemented each other. 2. Matcha raspberry - If you love matcha, this was amazing, and the raspberry paired perfectly. I had tried this first and did not share. 3. Signature chocolate tart - smooth, and I loved the crunchiness from the hazlenut praline. 4. Harmony - This looked so delicate to eat but delicious l. 5. Vanilla flan - This had like a creme brulee topping. So scrumptious. Everything I tried was amazing and good to the last bite. I did not share my pastries. Everyone had their own because it was that good. Prices are a little up there but definitely worth it when it's an occasional treat.. this time around, it was my birthday.
Ever notice that virtually no one working in a California restaurant smiles anymore? Here too. Why? The coffee is good but not stand-out. Mr. Espresso could be swapped out for something more flavorful, but it is delivered to your table in a large earthen cup. Pretty girls and pastries. Standard issue self-absorbed Burlingame crowd with fancy dogs. It's ok to read a book about death or write erotic heterosexual poems right in the middle of all this nothingness rather than stair at a screen. There's a great parade of yoga pants to ponder and it is fine to pretend one is on a French side street somewhere sipping Cappuccino and Perrier while pondering.
Not the first or last time here. Their desserts are fabulous. I’m slowly making my way through each one. Would highly recommend their fruit tarts. I do take issue however with their utensils, I can hardly cut into my tart using their plastic knife or fork. Makes enjoying my food a little hard to do. Service is friendly.
This bakery has a delightful selection of croissants and other pastries, all made fresh and true to French tradition. Unlike overly sweet American pastries, their pastries are perfectly balanced. I recently tried their pistachio cake and raisin roll, and both were great. The cake was light and airy, with a subtle pistachio flavor, and the raisin roll was bursting with juicy raisins. They have a lovely outdoor seating area, perfect for sunny days, and a comfortable indoor space ideal for a relaxed coffee break. Speaking of coffee, theirs is fantastic! It complements the pastries beautifully.
Nicely decorated. Clean and bright. All the pastry and tarts look delicious and the important factor is "Not too sweet". The only downside is that price too high. I ordered three tarts and a regular croissant that cost me $35.
Got the paris brest... it was soooo sweet. The price point is only justified in terms of size, but not quality. Edit: This store is cursed 🥲 the first time I got pastry from them I got into a car accident. And then I tried to get a cake from them later, and somehow the website did not register my pick up time and put the wrong time (a week earlier than what it's supposedly to be), and the owner is unwilling to make any fixes for it. This did not change my rating but I just want to rant lol
Yes, the pastries look like a piece of art. But their taste is above average at best with a price that rivals typical dishes in restaurants. A pecan pie with a 2 inch radius is $10... and they serve in paper plates. Something just doesn't add up. 3 pastries and 4 cups of coffee netted to $60. And again, served on paper plates and plastic cutlery. Probably won't return. No experience to experience.
I have been here a few times and I like the pastries I got prior. However, I got the lavender matcha latte today and it was subpar. The matcha looked very murky in color and it was very thick. It took a while for the matcha and the milk (oat milk) to finally combine together. However, I would still drink clumps through the straw occasionally. I got a tiramisu and it was fine, very creamy, which is personally not my preference. Perhaps it was just an off day, or I selected bad menu items.

Had a really bad experience at this place. The pastry and coffee were fine, but the service was really terrible. I ordered a chocolate croissant - which was the name of the item on the displayed tag. The cashier rang it in as pan a chocolat - I didn’t think much of it until she handed me the wrong pastry. When I told her I wanted the chocolate croissant (actually named the triple chocolate, but not displayed as that on the card), she told me that it was more expensive so she would not give it to me… huh? The price difference was $1.50, which I was happy to pay. I told her again that I wanted what I ordered and would pay the difference and she ignored me. I was kind of stunned at the implication I could not afford $1.50 more. I stepped away, then went back up bc I wanted the right pastry. I heard her complaining about me to another coworker loudly, and she then pretended not to see me and ignored me. I told her I’d like to pay the difference for the pastry I ordered, and she told me she couldn’t do that and needed to get her manager. I waited for 15 minutes at the counter. Finally the manager helped me (and it was obviously not a problem for me to pay the difference and get the right pastry). The level of rudeness by the cashier was honestly shocking. The most ironic thing is I added a tip on my original payment that would have covered the cost difference anyway. Definitely don’t recommend this place, there are a ton of other establishments with staff who are actually friendly!
Probably one of the worst eclairs I’ve had. Both the filling and the shell was way too salty, and the choux did not puff up to have enough filling inside. $10 for this is ridiculous

Coffee and food was reasonable but not worthy of the premium. Most importantly the service is atrocious. The table was dirty and they refused to clean citing that they are “busy” even after asking many times. Typically we would have left but we had seniors who wanted a min to sit. What a worse way to experience a relaxed coffee. Please avoid if you want a peaceful experience as there are a lot of better coffee and pleasant experiences nearby.
Such a disappointing lemon tart..overpriced tart that looked lovely but crust was way too hard and meringue wet. Staff was in back most of time and I was unable to even find anyone to address. Wish I had tried Copenhagen cafe next door instead.
We were excited to try this new French cafe. But was totally disappointed! Ordered 2 pastries and 1 cafe latte came out to $30 without tip! That is crazy especially for Burlingame! It’s not PA, Atherton or Menlo Park. So they can go kick rocks with their crazy prices! We will NOT return.
I had a really disappointing experience with a prepaid cake order at Maison Alyzée in Burlingame, and I would not trust them for any future orders or special occasions. I placed and paid for my cake order correctly, then drove about 30 minutes round trip, spent time looking for and paying for parking, and waited in the store for about 15 minutes. Only then was I told that my cake had never been made. The staff admitted that they entered my order incorrectly on their side, so the cake was never prepared. This was their mistake, not mine. What made it worse was how they handled it. Instead of a real apology or trying to make it right, they offered me some random leftover bread and pastries that were not what I ordered and nowhere near the serving size of the six-person cake I ordered. They even acted like they were doing me a huge favor and that I should be grateful for these forced swaps for items I did not want. They also did not immediately offer a refund for the cake I never received. In the end, I paid in advance, wasted about an hour, and left with no cake and very poor customer service, even though the mistake was entirely on the bakery’s side. It felt like paying for a slap in the face from the store and then being told to be thankful for it. If you don’t want your family, friends, or kids disappointed with no cake at a special occasion, I would strongly think twice before ordering a prepaid cake here. Based on my experience, you should only do that if you are okay with wasting time, paying for something you never get, and dealing with unhelpful service when the bakery messes up your order.
