Opinions de vHighlander House of Buffet & Steakhouse Burnet
To start off I am a huge buffet person. I've been to many buffets in my life and think of myself as a buffet connoisseur so when I come across a buffet that exceeds my expectations I am shocked. This place is good old southern comfort food made from scratch by one of the friendliest chefs I met. She comes out with one other person to change out the food as she cooks them. My favorites are the chicken and dumplings and their chicken fried steaks. Gravy is spot on and their collard greens with hot sauce is pretty amazing. Again this is all at a buffet. The restaurant itself is setup perfectly. I like the buffet station since it's not too big and doesn't have a crazy amount of choices. I think this is why the food quality is so good for a buffet. There is usually 4-5 main dishes and around 4-5 side dishes and a salad bar. The place is big and tables are far apart where you can walk back and forth to the buffet station and your table without feeling crowded. There is also some tvs around the place so you can watch football games and what not. The front of the place is a little shop where they sell various items from clothes to sunglasses. Nicely setup. The price is very reasonable. About the same price as golden corral but quality blows Golden corral out the water. I will make it a habit of coming here whenever I go to Bertram Burnet area. I recommend if you find yourself in that area.
Always a Great Dining Experience and Great Selection of Food in the Buffett Line, Salad Bar, Side Dishes, Assorted Desserts and even Soft Serve Ice Cream. All at a Great Price. Clean Restrooms. Also a Great Breakfast and Supper Buffett are Served. Fridays is Seafood Day, Fish, Shrimp, Stuffed Crab Cakes and other Fine Food can be ordered from the Menu. 👍👍👍👍👍
Wonderful buffet setup and friendly service. The buffet entree menu changes on a daily basis, so we're looking forward to trying different days. They have a regular menu also. They are open on Sundays, the buffet price is reasonable, and the food is down home and delicious!
Wonderful Ribs! They are (same as everyone) experiencing staffing shortages, but taking that into account, they are nevertheless doing an admirable job of keeping everything going. The kitchen is still wonderful, the food is still excellent, the bar still pours an honest shot (or glass of wine), so CHEERS!
We came here Saturday evening for their soft opening. They only had appetizers and 2 entries,so we ordered about 75% of the appetizers and both entries. We were extremely satisfied with the flavors of the dishes. Offered a diverse pallette of different Asian, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean plates. All were yummy, especially the Calamari with sweet chili sauce, the Chicken Satay was authentic and the peanut dipping sauce was unique but tasty. Will return when the full menu opens and review again.
Awesome buffet! Salad bar was very nice and the stroganoff and veggies were delicious. Giant glasses of tea and the dessert bar is not to be missed. Tried the cobbler and bread pudding both! Yummmm! Don’t miss this gem in Burnet!
I don't understand what happened with some of the people who left bad reviews for this place. I loved this food, and home town atmosphere + quaint little town = awesome! I noticed there is a new banner placed over the old sign, and I sure hope its not going to change its theme or buffet status. Our food was fresh, tasty and plenty of it. Love it!
We recently visited and were so glad we did. Their baked potato and salad bar were great, hubby really loved sausage, chicken and sides from the buffet. Our sweet waitress kept glasses full of their awesome sweet tea. Thank you for my night off!
A Burnet, Texas tradition. We enjoyed our meal at the Highlander. The restaurant was clean and the staff we great. $9.99 buffet was fresh and good. Try the frozen margarita (it's not on the menu) make as many trips to the food as you like. Thursday's have a bit of a Mexican food slant but there are the regular dishes as well. Friday is seafood night. If you don't want to try the Buffet don't forget it's a Steakhouse too.
I live in San Antonio, but go there on my Motorcycle every chance I get. Always GREAT food and great people. I went up there for Christmas and they had closed 30 minutes earlier, and the owner brought me out two plates of food to go and wouldn't charge me for it. Like I say, GREAT People. 👍👍👍
Good food, fabulous service comforting and welcoming atmosphere. That have good food for all. They didn't have any boneless chicken on my visit, but my boyfriend ate all the meat he could. I ate the salad bar and the hot veggies both were wonderful.
Love the food here , been coming for many years now. Buffet food here is so fresh and delicious. I would bring your whole family or date , no matter the occasion you won’t be disappointed. The desserts are really special and should not be overlooked. The price for the food if anything is underpriced . Try not to eat all the food when you visit , but then again it keeps coming so enjoy !
highlander is a classic in Burnet. Teresa and her family have made it a must stop in and eat . Granny’s rolls are the 💣💥. the fried chicken is moist, and i had ribs and they were so tender and delicious.
The food was delicious and well prepared. I don't frequent buffets, but this was a class A joint. Very friendly staff. They even had several selections of dessert. I will be going back for more!!!
Our family ate at the Highlander House 13 years ago and we haven't traveled this way for a while. We stopped today for a late lunch and it was great. The service was friendly and the food was hot and delicious. I hope they will be there for years to come.
Wish I could take a picture of my amazing half rack of ribs because OMG yum. Great service from our waitress Kim. All they need is live music😎 Happy to say they have live music now. The back bar and patio area is amazing and the food menu has more delicious choices.
I can't speak for all the food, but I had the salad, chicken fried steak, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, spinach and bread pudding. Just like home cooking. Boy was it good and filling. What more do you want?
6/1/2024 UPDATE: THEY HAVE UPPED THEIR GAME IN RECENT MONTHS. I can now recommed this place. Trying to be a good but struggling. We've eaten the buffet lunch twice in the last couple of weeks. The food is wholesale and is flavored okay. We went on a Saturday to have fried chicken and I got a whiff of stale cooking oil. Neither my wife or I could finish the single pieces we tried because of the off flavor. We will try this place again to see if they improve the quality of the fried chicken. There other offerings on the buffet show that they can improve this aspect.
I have been eating at the Highlander for many years and have never had a bad meal. Are some meals better than others? Absolutely! It depends on my tastes for that day. The salad bar and the buffet are small, but they always have good selections, and plenty of each. Their vegetables are just plain good country cooking style and delicious. The line is checked often and the food is very tasty. The dessert bar is also small but if you like bread pudding, cobler, a variety of cakes, etc., you'll love this dessert bar. Don't forget the soft serve ice cream. If you don't like the buffet you may order from the menu. The personnel (all of them) are great. They are friendly, professional ,and very personable. The area is clean and maintained well throughout the day. As the customer traffic slows throughout the day, the management closes sections for cleaning to get ready for the next main meal. The prices are reasonable for the area and the atmosphere is just fine. I'd recommend the Highlander to anyone and never think twice about it!!
I'm here to tell you this was the Best Buffet I have ever eaten in my life!!!! I think actually this is some of the Best Food we have eaten Period !! Service was Fantastic. The food was Home Cooked with the best flavoring in all the dishes. I have never seen such Big Pieces of Fried Chicken before !! From the Salads to the Deserts everything was Perfect. I'm so glad we are visiting here for a week . They will see me everyday. Lol
Wonderful buffet, chicken, meat loafe, steak, meatballs lots of others, great place, very nice and friendly, choc cake was out of this world
Looking for a good quick meal? This is the place. Great variety of entrees that they keep refilling. Well stocked salad bar. Good choice of desserts that are included with the buffet. Friendly servers that keep the drinks refreshed.
Such yummy food and great variety. Meatloaf was perfect, and the chicken was so tender. Awesome salad bar options, too. It appeared like they were short staffed, but the service was great and they did a good job with what they had! This place was a favorite of my two kiddos, also.
This is apparently a pretty popular place in Burnet. I arrived at 1pm. There was a large party trickling in before and after me that caught them by surprise. They were very forthcoming warning us that the buffet closed at 2 and no new food would be put out after 1:30. Several small groups who came in after 1:30 were encouraged to take a look at what was available before sitting down, but every group that looked liked the choices enough to stay. There was enough food there that I would have stayed faced with the same choice. The fried entrees were excellent. I had fried chicken and chicken fried steak. Both were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The chicken was juicy and not over cooked. The steak was well seasoned and tenderized. I had multiple helpings of both. The two "BBQ" pork offerings were ribs and pulled pork. But they were obviously made in an oven, because there was no smoke in the flavor of the meat. The ribs were well cooked, tender and moist, and well seasoned. They had good flavor, just no smoke. If you don't like fatty chunks in your pulled pork, then you'll definitely want to skip that dish. The sides were acceptable but not special except for the fried okra, which was exceptional. The carrots, spinach and corn came out of a can. They probably added some butter, salt, and /or sugar, but they were otherwise obviously canned. The mashed potatoes came from a box. But the fried okra was perfect. Crunchy, well seasoned, served piping hot, I had several servings of that dish. The rolls were good. The desserts were served in small covered single serving dishes. None were hot. The peach cobbler was fine, and I enjoyed it. The bread pudding had a strange texture, so I didn't finish the bowl I got. The ice cream machine was not working. Everything there was served at a very good temperature. The food didn't sit long enough to get old, since there were plenty of diners to eat it up. There is a salad bar that I didn't try, but it looked fine. I enjoyed it, and I will eat there again. The servers were very upfront about the schedule to make sure everyone knew what was going on. And the server I had was friendly. The other lady seemed a little put out by the large group who came in without a reservation. But I had a positive experience and will happily eat there again.
I have absolutely loved this place for many years. Me and my son would sneak off Saturday mornings to let momma sleep in and always had the freshest breakfast buffet you could ask for. Now I found out they are cooking steaks. The steaks ain't the best quality and maybe cut to thin for my tastes but are always cooked rights and are absolutely delicious. Salad bar and even the side salad it awesome. The blue cheese dressing is a dream. Oh so good. I will definitely eat here every chance I get. My son craves it after a football game. I'm so thankful it's in my little small town.
The steak was cooked to perfection! The service was very lax....we were the only ones there. The food was amazing though! Weird sales out front...shoes, clothes...Just an odd set up...we'd come back for steak though!
Come out for karaoke Wednesday evenings at 7pm to see Jose host an incredible night for the customers and share with good food/drinks from the restaurant.
Enjoyed eating out on the porch overlooking Hamilton Creek. Service was excellent and the food exceptional. We especially enjoyed the appetizers, particularly the oyster shooters and warm brie with bread. My shrimp street tacos were some of the best I've had and the grilled corn on the cob that came with it yummy!
I absolutely love this place and its a quiet, comfy atmosphere that allows you to eat as much and as fast or slow as you want. I plan to fast shortly before going because everything is so delicious. Its as close to homeade country cooking you can get for such a good price.
So good! Came here at about 4:30 with only one person in the whole place. Feeling pretty reluctant and expecting a bad experience with old crusty food, I gave it a shot anyway. Wow! What an awesome meal, every single thing I ate was good, better than good actually. Food did not taste old or look old even considering the time of day for a buffet. Great job! Can't wait to come back again when I am in town.
What a delightful and delicious experience! From the moment we walked in to walking out we thoroughly enjoyed our visit at the Highlander! we got the buffet one weekday afternoon and for the $9.99 we had all we could eat meatloaf, fried chicken, baked chicken, or chicken and dumplings plus fixings, salad and dessert! Woowee! My favorite was the meatloaf and creamed spinach. Hats off at the dinner table though, please.
Delicious food, awesome drinks, and friendly, fabulous service from the Bartendress Alex....thank you!!
Older place/facility to be sure. However; only salad bar in Burnet. At least as far as I have found. Food is consistent. It is better than most any buffet. The chicken fried steak that comes from the buffet seems to be home made. Not from a frozen package. For a buffet it is very good. Just wish they would post what there daily buffet has on it to their website or Facebook. Again older place but great food, and the staff is very friendly.
We were told it was good food and service from the grandparents so we took them here to eat. Food choices was good. Place is clean, staff is polite and helpful.
Great lunch buffet selection. Well stocked salad bar and many dessert items. Friendly wait staff. I will be returning.
We had a weekend family reunion. A very large group for Sunday lunch. All of us were promptly seated and waitress arrived at our table as soon as we were seated and put silverware on table taking drink orders at the same time. The buffet is very convenient and excellent variety of home style cooked food, a nice salad bar, and variety of desserts. Checking out to pay was easy, line went fast. Management does a great job keeping the buffet supplied with food for the amount of people in line.
The buffet was great! Chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and yummy white gravy. Tried some of the catfish, and it was delicious! Had some good sweet tea, too. There was some dessert, but I didn't check it out, so I am unsure what all was available.
Food, drinks, service and ambiance were great! Had the Salmon 1 night (the sauce is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G) and chicken fried steak the next night( good with very large portions). Came back for the buffet- would recommend to put names of what items are. But my favorite at the buffet were the chicken strips, biscuits n gravy, salad bar and the mashed potatoes with corn!! Leanne was the best waitress, very attentive!
Waitresses tend to ignore you, the closer to the stage you sit. People complain about live entertainment but stay the entire time.e to complain. The owner kicks but however. I highly recommend..everything. food is outstanding
We were a little hesitant about visiting this restaurant, the reviews were about 50/50. One thing that gave us the push to go was the pictures. We Love us some home cooking and that’s everything we seen. Well I am so glad we did, the young guy that greeted us was also our waiter, and a VERY kind person. Our drinks were never empty and our table never cluttered, he took care of the whole dining area. Never once did he seem rushed or unable to help with the small requests. Just wish we had gotten his name, Open carrying gentleman that’s the only clue I have to send 5STARS!!! As far as the establishment it was warm and welcoming and they just did the floors, I overheard that from some RETURNING guests. Everything was clean and loved the home made stuff in the front close to the check out counter. Now the to the food, so many post said not seasoned. Oh it was perfectly seasoned for the public, but not for the individual. We added salt on this and pepper sauce on that and even some Louisiana on the chicken. But that is to perfect it for our own taste. Everything thing was fresh, hot, and kept Full. (We were there on a Saturday close to noon) I really have to brag on there fried chicken it is the absolute best. I rarely eat fried chicken because it’s always so dry, not here! So to sum it up, if you are not from the area and looking for good food…. Give them a try.
Very clean. Buffet table attractive. Food great! Staff responses prompt and overall attentiveness to guests very pleasant!!
A wonderful country buffet with a 25 year history at the same location. The staff is super friendly and the food is made in house.. hometown cooking at its finest! The desert is outstanding, especially their bread pudding 😁 so good! Their ribs were perfectly tender and juicy. Delicious ingredients on the salad bar. The hot food selections were Sunday afternoon favorites. We will definitely be back when we return to Marble Falls again.
From out of town, so this was my first time eating at Highlander. Buffet was great, staff was super friendly, and accommodating. Will definitely be coming back to eat in the future.
Comfortable family owned restaurant very nice. Always a crowd. When you're in this area you should check it out. In the evenings at the same building, but in the door on the right. There is the Van Brockland's Bistro Bar and Grill. It's really nice too and they have music and karaoke night and name that tune bingo. It's a lot of fun a lot of joy. A definite place to check out!
I am incredibly happy that I visited this establishment. Everything is very clean and beautiful inside, the food is just top notch. Thanks to the chef who prepared all this, the service staff. They are just magicians. They came up to me constantly and asked if everything was okay. Such attention deserves respect. I want to wish prosperity to this restaurant.
Awesome home cooked meal. They were short staffed but made up for it with great service. The ice cream machine broke while we were there, but the cake and cobbler were so good we didn't care. The little burger steaks with bacon on top were amazing. And the kids got to get a little prize from the treasure chest after. Take a walk in the park after supper and watch the ducks
I went on a sunday when they have a buffet. The food was great, home cooked and lots of choices. The only issue we had was there were only 2 servers for the entire restaurant, which made getting drink refills far and fee between. But for $10.95 you cant beat the quality and amount of food.
I thought the food was ok but pricey. Our table was like loose or moving. Ice cream machine broken. For all most 20.00 each person it seems like they could offer more than 2 meat choices and put some money back into the place.
First time in a while and we’re very surprised we arrived and they only had two couples. The food an the buffet was fresh hot and tasty. Costumer service was very good and helpful We will be back Also the back of the house staff were top notch food came out just quick and hot
Great meal at a Great price. Brisket was amazing. Chicken was tasty too. Sides were hot and flavorful. Lots to pick from at the buffet. Service was great too. Highly recommend this place. Buffet menu changes daily. Check their website for info.
Good food at a fair price. This is a buffet restaurant and nearly everything I've eaten here has been pretty good. I highly recommend the bread pudding for dessert. I've eaten here several times with my father and his wife over the years.
Drive about 90 miles to eat here often. Food is good. Best fried chicken I’ve ever had. I know they have a problem with staffing but the owner is always working his butt off. Nice guy. Always look forward to our trip to the Highlander
Nice family atmosphere with outdoor seating if you want it. Sirloin with baked potato was very good. Good sweet tea. They have a large buffet also but I ordered off the menu. Very friendly staff. Good desert selections too.
My kids loved the buffet and choices. I had limited choices being gluten sensative, but they did try to accommodate by preparing chicken separately. The price seemed high for my preteens at $15 + $2 for a drink. Kid prices under 10 were an exceptional value. Clean venue and friendly service.
Lunch buffet was good. Ribs were tender, meatloaf was well made. Salad fresh. Instant mashed potatoes with no gravy was a little disappointing. Staff was courteous and friendly. Overall very nice time. Recommended.
Pleasantly surprised! Through the 20+years they've been up and down as far as their food. But we arrived just as they opened, and were incredibly impressed with the freshness, perfect execution, and the detail of how the staff maintained the food. A good experience!
The food was ok. The salad honestly tasted like expired lettuce. I had to pick through the salad because there were slimmy pieces in there. The service was terrible. No one came to ask for our drink order. We sat down and waited about 10 mins as the bartender and 2 different waitresses walked past us several times. My husband finally waved down a lady who immediately came over and apologized for no one taking our order. I believe she was the actual owner. She was amazing. She even bought our first beers. She was very friendly. I like how she continued to wait on us after her staff failed to do their job. She gets 5 stars.
Quaint restaurant with good size buffet. Today was country cooking and there were options for all including the kiddos. Drinks were kept full and staff was polite. We were in town on the train and this restaurant was one of the food places list on the map provided by the train.
I really want to like this place, and I've been here a few times, but I never find it to be anything more than mediocre. The beans and brisket were good, but the catfish was chewy. The salad bar was okay at best. Really wish they'd add some healthier options to the buffet.
Staff is good food selection is o.k. burgers are usually really good this time the veggies were bad and the burgers had to much gristle. So when I went to pay I asked if they would take one of the burgers off because my wife did not eat hers. The cashier hold on and went to the back and some guy with glasses who I take was the owner came out and asked me if I was joking. I told him no and he proceeded to be hateful about how they're the best burgers in town and if I didn't like it not to come back and that one customer doesn't matter. I told him I eat here all the time and he told me he doesn't give a rats a**. I told him that's fine I won't be coming back he proceeded to call the cops and kick me out because one of the burgers were bad and I asked him to for him to comp the burger. Never EVER will be going back there don't recommend for anyone else to go there because like he said one customer doesn't matter.
Mmhhh...it's ok. Salad looked depressed, meat (ribs) were pressure cooked prior to bbq'ing them up .. meatloaf was better. Fried chicken was good. Buffet, but for the price it could be a lot better. I was there on a Sunday so it might be a bit higher.
It's a great place to get a big lunch in comfortable surroundings, nice staff. Not fancy atmosphere, a kind of step back in time, but just fine for It's purpose. I enjoyed it!
I've gone to this buffet twice - each time I felt sick afterwards. I do not know if it was something wrong with the food, or if I just ate something I should not have without realizing it. The food however was excellent (for a buffet) and seemed fresh. Honestly, they seemed to be doing everything right: Everything was warm, seemed fresh enough, and the food area was clean. Although the food area was clean, the rest of the place was not, and the bathrooms were very smelly. I had the same nice lady both times I went as my wait staff. She was exceptionally nice and polite -- exactly what you expect to find in a small southern Texas town. Honestly, she is the reason I gave 3-Stars instead of 2-Stars.
This is for the buffet which is only 11am-2pm. You have the options of a salad bar, a variety of cakes/desserts, fried chicken, meat loaf, smoke chicken, mash potoes, mac and cheese, and just a few other sides when I went. To say this is a buffet is overselling it in my opinion, but you do sit and order a drink and get to go and get an unlimited amount of food, though. It's just limited as to the variety of proteins. The service on a very busy Sunday was fantastic. The salad bar had a great selection of topping and was fresh. The fried chicken was also hot, had a good crunch, was not dry, and had a wonderful flavor. Past that, I wish there was more. The buffet is during the day for a few hours, and in the evenings, they open another area within that is an actual sit and order (menus) restaurant, we were told. I am not sure I would come back for the buffet, just simply due to the lack of variety, but the fried chicken was a 10 out of 10 when we went. I would recommend to at least get the experience the buffet to see if your style and maybe in the evening try the steak house, which I am not sure is good, but based off other reviews, sounds it.
Decent food for the price ($16 per person). The environment is kind of stuffy, feels like furniture and the floors have not been upgraded since the 70s. But if you're really hungry and don't want to pay a lot it might be worth it. Also they don't label anything which is a huge con in my opinion. Would be great if I knew what each option was.
Went to have breakfast. All of the food looked, and for the most part tasted great. The bacon was a bit too crispy and just crumbled into the abundance of grease in the holding pan. We had one refill and never could get another before paying our bill and leaving. Overall a decent breakfast.
Such an odd selection of food. There was no coherent dishes or food. Corn dogs? Like, where’s the chicken fried steak? Everyone else in the restaurant looked happy and like everything was normal-when it wasn’t. The atmosphere didn’t help either, building needs some major refurbs.
Came in to try their lunch after hearing about it for my customers was not impressed. Heard Rave reviews the spread was nothing impressive. I guess I showed up on their Mexican day they had two carts one little salad bar which wasn't bad. The other one had baked chicken which is mediocre chicken fried steak which I'm not a fan of so I won't comment, some fajita meat with peppers and onions some greasy watery hamburger meat for tacos mashed potatoes and gravy looks like some enchiladas they had a mini dessert bar overall I would not come back again food was very bland and nothing impressive
I was really hoping that the money they saved in coming up with a professional name for this place (who comes up with a name like Highlander House of Buffet & Steakhouse, and doesn't even serve steak?) was instead invested in the finest ingredients and chefs. Well, sadly, I was mistaken. This place is from another era, when food was bland and buffets were plentiful. I imagine this is what food tastes like in nursing homes, which explains the advanced ages of the patrons that were dining there. The decor of the place feels like you're dining at grandmas house, when she was senile and could no longer recall what ingredients went into the meal. If you've ever wondered what an old school TV dinner tasted like, look no further than the Highlands House of Buffett & Steakhouse. Still, it's a very unique place in spite of the food, which is why I give it 2 stars and suggest you check it out before it's gone.
Great friendly service. Seriously the service was fantastic. The buffet was cheap. Only about $10 a person. Unfortunately, it only tasted like it was worth $10 too. This was some of the worse food I have ever had in my life. Nothing was fresh, vegetables were out of out of a can. A tip to the restaurant, raise your prices $5-8 per person and get some fresher ingredients.
The food was edible, but it wasn't that good. We paid almost $18/pc (not including the tip) for just my husband and I. He had a tea and I had a water, I didn't eat much at the buffet, I was surprised when it was time to pay! We won't be going back. The place could use a face lift as well.
First of all, it says STEAKHOUSE in the name, but they didn't serve steak. Second of all, the meat that my bf and Mom ate looked like it was radioactive, the biscuits were too thick, and the fish was a really odd color, but was edible. The best part of the meal was the sweet tea my mom had. We ended up paying for 3 drinks and 3 adult buffets, 63.00. Outrageous. I do not recommend.
Food was not well seasoned., price of buffet was never told to us until time to pay. Over priced for sure. Closing time is 2pm. On Sunday. Also, they support Pepsi products. Not my game. Fried chicken was good. Service was great and very friendly staff. Bathrooms large and clean. Food did not satisfy my Sunday lunch time hunger.
Won’t be stopping here again. I guess they don’t have menus so we were stuck eating the main entrees pictured. Not much to choose from. The fried chicken is decent, but the meatloaf was pretty bad. Pretty sure they added sugar to corn; to ensure sweetness, I assume. Yuk! Especially as it mixes with other food on the plate. Desserts were slim pickin’s. If “meh” were a rating, this place would be just under. In their defense, I think the place got stuck somewhere in the 70’s. If you like that kinda thing, this is your place.
We ate here today on our way home from the Hill Country. Awful, salad bar was not fresh or tended too. Black olives in the banana pudding. We watched the cook pour new gravy on the old gravy. Then he poured steamed spinach on top of the old spinach. Unfortunately this was witnessed after eating most of our meal. They never brought out fresh food. It was seafood friday but the Manager told our waitress shrimp doesn't come put until after 5. Even though the price was the same before five. What??? Waitress came back once in 45 minute to refill drinks. Horrible service, management, kitchen staff. Do yourself a favor and just keep driving.
Food was barely average. The service was truly horrible, when I finally got tired of waiting for service I called out "Wait staff" the manager walked into the dining hall and preceded to tell me, that the waiter was very busy and over worked with my table and one other, and that if I needed something I was to get off my butt walk up to the register and ask her for it. Where is the customer service. I will never go back for that way over priced food with horrible service. Next Day: Now it's the next morning and I spent the whole night with my head in the toilet and my son was in the other restroom sitting on that toilet. Don't eat there
Horrible- can’t believe anyone gave them a 5! Restaurant is hot and I’m sure the food is spoiled. We only tried the salad of the bar and it was warm???? Then they served my 5yo rotten chocolate milk- didn’t even apologize and we just walked out. Disgusting! Bathroom have major leak and spelled of mold and didn’t even have AC.
We went to Burnet on the train ride. We picked this place because it had a shuttle bus and it was buffet. It was a horrible experience. First, it looked like there were bug droppings on the tables. When I asked a waitress, she said it was stuff that the AC was blowing out. Ok, gross. The buffet was highly disappointing with only a few choices. The bread had no flavor whatsoever and the desserts were saran wrapped...I guess that was so the AC craps wouldn't get on it. Would never go here again and would never suggest it to anyone. Yuck.
First started coming here about 11 years ago. I loved it! We would always go on Friday because of the fried catfish and stuffed crabs along with all the other comfort food on the buffet. Was a very reasonable price. We also loved the hunting/fishing lodge atmosphere. Now, not so much. Ever since the owner started renovating the place it's gone downhill. Catfish is mushy on the inside, stuffed crabs are stale, and most of the other food is overcooked and nasty. Was excited to see popcorn shrimp on the buffet this last time only to find out it's actually chopped up mystery meat that's been shaped and fried in the form of popcorn shrimp. Not as good a selection anymore. Plus the price has gone up quite a bit! Atmosphere is not there anymore. I have no idea what look they're going for, but it's no longer the lodge look. I am so disappointed because my whole family enjoyed it for years, but we will never be going back!
First of all, you can barely call it a buffet. There is a severe lack of options. Food was old, salty and not well seasoned. Our waitress was good, especially when trying to sell this food. The dessert was terrible, nothing is labeled at all. My wife had a steak that was not evenly cooked (she ordered medium well) in which one end was well done(burnt) and the other side was bloody. I've been to great restaurants, and this is not even close. I only gave 1 star because I had to.
Came at 6:30pm...the buffet was cold and the tarter sauce warm. Notified the waitress and it appears that the "knobs are broken" on the buffet table. She did offer to warm the food up in the microwave...😨 what?!?! How long has it been cold? What could be growing....? Going across the street to Bills Burgers. Kids ordered the sirloin off the menu and it was tasteful and hot. As we are leaving, steam is now coming from the buffet table reheating all that food.
The worst!!! The place is old and dingy and smells bad. The food was not good at all everything tasted canned and definitely not fresh not sure how they justify the price. Spent $135 for us to eat the Thanksgiving buffet. Disappointed is an understatement.
If I could give negative stars, I would. These positive review people must have not experienced many restaurants in their life. We wanted to do something different and special for our boys for Easter Sunday. Our waiter acted as if he did not want to be there. We had to hunt him down to ask for straws and silverware. He was very unfriendly. The decor of the place confuses us. We aren’t sure why they have a gift shop selling Costa sunglasses and shirts for boating and fishing. It also was messy and gross. The food was horrible. It was either over seasoned or no seasoning. No middle ground. The selection of food was not what was expected by previous reviews and photos. There was no steak. Overall everything needs a deep clean and fixed. Not impressed and not worth the cost. Will not return and do not recommend.
I was in here for about 4 minutes. It was dark, smelled bad when you walk in. There was a shop for fishing gear and men's shirts when you open the doors. I thought I was in the wrong building for a minute. I looked around at the food. Everything smelled so bad. It looked like there was no seasoning on any of the vegetables. They were 100% from a can. The chicken was extremely dried up. The salad looked really bare, plain and old. This is straight up hospital food, and I know they cater to a certain demographic (elderly people) because there's a shuttle out front for the restaurant. Everyone in there was old. You couldn't pay me to eat here. I worked in the restaurant business for a while and I know when stuff isn't worth the money. 12$ for the buffet. I'm going to have nightmares about this place tonight. I wish i'd never ran into the old lady that suggested this place to us.
So I am 99% sure the “raving reviews” are fake and from the staff of this establishment. We were so excited to try this place, especially after reading the review....I regret it. We had the buffet. It’s Friday so they had chicken and fish. The chicken tasted like it was made 2 days ago it was so dry. I was going to drown it in ketchup.... well the ketchup was soured (yes people ketchup does bad). The greens tasted like they were from a can and absolutely nothing was done to them. The catfish was dry as well. The shrimp had a off taste. Too scared to try anything else off the buffet. I survived off my sons French fries that he didn’t want. My moms tea didn’t taste good. The beans taste heavy of black pepper. I ended up getting sick about half an hour after eating. I definitely won’t be back to try their other buffets or menu items.
Sign on the street said buffet, pulled in and parked only to find out it's only 11-2
Walked in this place to check out the food and turned around and walked out. The building is old, stinky and dirty. The place was full of senior citizens. I guess they are the only ones that eat the food. Everything on the buffet looked nasty and unappetizing. Didn’t dare try anything. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
I am sad to inform that we had a bad experience at Highlander's. Although we liked their food, especially the breakfasts on the weekends, I was quite surprised to find out that ordering takeout is the biggest downfall for this restaurant. When we went to the Mexican night buffet to try to get our food the waitress not only followed us, but stayed there looking at us very uncomfortable and asked what food we wanted to get. I looked at her and asked for my box so that I could do that myself, and she said: "no, I have to do it" and I asked why, only for her to say: " because that's the way it is and that's the way I was trained". I was taken by surprise, and she just stood there waiting, looking at us, like a parole officer to a criminal. Since when do you go to a buffet and the waitress picks your food for you or stays there watching you like you're stealing food? That was very discriminatory because there were other costumers buying food and no one told them anything and they were grabbing their own food, without anyone watching over them, they just happened to be caucasian. I was so disappointed, especially because there are no signs or notifications at the buffet about what we can and cannot eat, or pick. The funny part is that they gave us a box to choose anything we wanted from the dessert and salad bar without looking over our shoulder, apparently they have to supervise you only on the entrees. I do find this hard to believe, as I have come with coworkers and friends, and they had never treated us this way. As much as my family and I liked coming here every week, after this discriminatory and unpleasant incident, we will NOT be back to the Highlander Restaurant.
Even though we arrived 25 minutes before closing, the entry way was disgustingly dirty. We were greeted by a lady sitting at a table talking to another employee , both didn't even bother getting up (very unprofessional). The buffet bar looked like it hadn't been cleaned all day. The food was very dry (not edible)and didn't seem to have been stirred or flipped to keep it looking fresh. We didn't bother staying. Do not recommend at all!
I think we came to eat here on a bad day. We had a group and were patiently waiting to ask if we could get a few tables together. The waitress practically yelled at us that she was the only one there and couldn't help us. Wow. So we all just sat at separate tables, which is fine. She really was the only one there, she had to get all the drinks and check everyone out. I understand that maybe a few people didn't show up for a shift, but do not take that out on customers. The buffet was constantly out of stuff, and honestly food was awful. Like I said, this was probably just a bad day for this place, but we definitely won't be back.
